Dangerous Little Dares

Rate this book
Carter Kensington is charming, funny, and kind—he’s Briar Roses’ most eligible bachelor, a billionaire who drives fast cars and curates priceless paintings. While he’s never been particularly glamorized by his wealth, he’s certainly used to getting everything he wants. Except when it comes to her. A fact that drives him crazy. Maybe even crazy enough to abandon his riches and try to pursue a fresh start. Key word try.

Sarafina Devereux might seem like your average girl next door, except for the fact that she grew up in the elite upper echelons of society. A brilliant artist—equal parts prankster and ball of anxious nerves, she always did find it hard to ask for what she wanted. Especially when it comes to her older brother’s best friend—the orphaned neighbor boy she grew up crushing on. Their long running game of Truth or Dare—her only way of getting his attention. Little does she know… she’s always had it.

Both Carter and Sara keep their own secrets, but when a tragic death turns everyone’s lives upside down, and a villainous secret society pulls the strings in the background—hard enough to snap. Carter will do whatever it takes to protect the girl he’s always loved… even if it means turning morally gray to save her.

Dangerous Little Dares is a slow burn, friends to lovers romance—a romantic comedy smashed up with a romantic suspense. It’s sexy, dangerous, thrilling and hilariously clever. Heartfelt and emotional, it will make you laugh, cry, and clench your thighs.

This is Book One in The Society of Secrets, a series of happily ever after standalone romances that follow a group of friends from Briar Rose Estates—a luxurious and treacherous world of billionaires. Each book is a standalone for that unique couple, but juicy chaos unfolds across the series and you’ll need to read the books in order.

something i enjoyed about this was the main characters feelings for each other - they genuinely wanted to be together and had some fun banter moments.

okay the plot was not the worst thing ever but it was so dang long 😭 i just wanted the story to be done with at the 30% mark 💔

there is so much going on and i feel like this book could have been split in half for like a duet or smth yk because why was there so much happening and left me more confused. i am intrigued about some of the other couples ofc but i dont think ill continue this series 😭

if you're into spicy, brother's bsf, years of pining, mafia/messy elite family drama this might be for you. the issues within their town related to all the rich people is a huge part of this story and the writing wasn't exactly my vibe.

𐙚⋆°。⋆♡ ── pre-read
i lowkey don't remember signing up for this arc 😭 but this pink cover is kinda cute and the plot sounds interesting...

This book was SO sweet and I love that it was a romance with PLOT. Plus the plot was suspenseful and mysterious too!

Carter is Sara’s older brother’s best friend, which typically means a “no-go zone” in romance novels (as an aside, I can’t relate having only older sisters who would give me dating tips-is the overprotective big bro really a thing?). Obvious to everyone but themselves, they pine over each other until certain events set the plot AND the romance in motion.

Carter was a great MMC who brought the YEARNING. Sara was a good mix of strong and vulnerable. I like that when Carter messed up, she didn’t fold right away and made him prove it. The secondary characters were well-rounded and I was already coupling them up in my head. The ending got me excited for the next installment in the series without an obnoxious cliffhanger, which is an amazing accomplishment. The only thing I would change is that the MMC being a well-known eff-boy diminishes the yearning and pining. I don’t expect celibacy, but mentioning how the MMC has been with tons of women while obsessing over the FMC doesn’t seem necessary IMO. Overall, I loved reading this book and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

Thank you to Charlie Lennon and PenPal PR for the eARC!

I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of this book.

I really enjoyed this. I have a bad habit of signing up for ARCS and then forgetting. When I get the "congrats" message I'm always surprised, lol.

This book I had seen on my FYP while I was at work and then couldn't find it again. But luckily for me, a good friend posted about it in our buddy reads discord. I signed up, sat back and then got the approval a couple days later!

I started reading this and I keep my "placement" blank on my kindle. I got curious how far I had gotten and THEN realized how big of a book this was. But I will say, it was never boring. Tons of storyline, a good amount of spice in the right places.

I love our main characters and how we get to see them through different stages. Not just them as a couple, but them as people. Brothers best friend is one of my favorite tropes, and this was so well done.

The Secret Society aspect, I really hope we get more of that in book two. I felt like it could have been heavier in the book and not just mostly towards the end. There's so many aspects of it I really want to learn. Especially with that last full on chapter!

I am looking forward to having this on my shelf as a trophy and to see where else this world will take us!

The only reason I pushed through this mess of a story was because I was an ARC reader and I think it’s important to give feedback.

It should be noted it took me 14 days to read this book… 12 days to get through the first 8 chapters and two days to finish the rest by reading and listening to text to speech. A book this length would normally take 2 days if I’m leisurely reading.

Nothing happens in this story. You will be just as confused at the end of the book as you are after the first chapter.

Reading this book feels like you are jumping in the middle of an ongoing story. No characters are actually introduced, they are just there and you are expected to understand what’s going on.

The secret society isn’t explained
His time in the USAF isn’t explained nor does the timing make any sense. The whole time frame and ages of these characters also isn’t explained. Just assume besides them both having crushes on each other NOTHING else is really explained.

There is SO much going on and absolutely nothing happening at all, make it make sense.

The MMC and FMC’s story is complete and we don’t have any closure. There is no “to be continued”

It is very safe to say I will not continue this series.

ARC Reader Review: Dangerous Little Dares is in my top 2 reads for this year. Charlie poured her self in to this book and it shows on the pages. The banter, the thrill of what’s going to happen next, touch her and die, golden retriever/morally grey MMC. I was hooked just from the prologue. So honored to have been selected for this ARC. I have already ordered my signed physical copy. If you want a read that is going to make you laugh, cry, make you mad, sad, relieved, and fall in love at the same time. This is the book for you. Highly recommend and will be thinking about for a long long time.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Dangerous Little Dares by Charlie Lennon
I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book, and I’m so glad I did! It’s a big read, but it never once dragged — great pacing, a solid storyline, and spice in all the right places. I loved how we got to see the main characters not just as a couple but as individuals, and the brother’s best friend trope was done so well. The Secret Society aspect really hooked me toward the end, and I can’t wait to see more of it in book two. Definitely one I’ll be proud to have on my shelf!

By far my favorite read of 2025!! I laughed, I cried and I most definitely clenched my thighs!! IFKYK!!! I haven’t felt this way about a book in quite some time. Charlie did a phenomenal job with truly making you feel there. Without spoiling I truly felt like I was in some of these beautiful detailed spaces. I absolutely adored the characters, the romance, the lust, the banter. The spice, was DELICIOUS!! This book had me captivated with the highs and lows. It was absolutely thrilling and I felt SO much emotion reading as the character development was so deep. Each page felt so raw, and real. The tears 🥹🫠 I feel honored that I got to read this as an ARC. Thankful for Charlie who is the sweetest person, I adore all her engagement online she truly is a gem. Another thanks to PenPal PR!!

Ordered my hard copy, because I can’t not have it and I truly just loved it so much. Cant wait to read more Briar Rose, eagerly anticipating what’s next.

I loved everything about this book!!!

Sara and Carter are the main MMC and FMC, and like the title says there are a lot of truth and dare fun.

From the MMC and MFC to the side characters. They were all so well written.

It did not end on a cliffhanger per se, but it definitely left you with questions and wanting more.

This was an older brother, suspense romcom book. There were moments of things that hurt my heart, but it was written beautifully!

The book has playfully scenes in it, but not laugh out loud funny. But that is probably because I’m more a dry/dark humor type of person.

Go read it. You won’t regret it.

I was fortunate enough to have gotten an ARC copy.

I am very disappointed that the author has chosen to not include any CW/TW either in the book or on her website. Author wrote that she considers TW to be spoilers and if the reader would like to know the TW to head to her website. The CW/TW are NOT listed on the website as of 09/24/2025, but hey! At least those merch links are working! *eye roll*

Currently 6% in
First thing I noticed was the obnoxious amount of sentences and words in italics. Second, the MMC is trying to be "alpha" but just keeps traumatizing the FMC. Not much ground work has been established i.e., the plot. We just know that for *some* reason, MMC thinks that he can't have FMC and decides to enlist in the military.
A quick google search would let the author know that the MMC CANNOT be a pilot within the first two years of his enlistment.

10% in -
A pilot cannot have "muscles galore." Are they in shape? Of course, but they can't carry a lot of muscle on the upper half of their bodies.
Author doesn't understand how punctuation works. A sentence can have either a ! or a ? but generally, not both. It's another editing error that the author overuses.

18% in -
Not much of a plot outside of the MMC and FMC has developed. There's some secret society, but we don't know anything about it because the author would rather spend PAGES upon PAGES on monotonous details that establish nothing over developing a plot.

54% in -
First, I'm so over the use of good girl and in this book it's just used so incorrectly.
NOTHING IS HAPPENING. I'm halfway through the book and like, there's no real plot. How can you have a 600+ page book and for 300 pages, nothing happens. It's maddening.

69% in -
Still nothing has happened. And there are sooooo many unnecessary chapters. Still have no idea what the haunted house scene was supposed to accomplish.

Done -
This book should have been over 250 pages less than it actually was.
There are some huge issues with the novel and the plot. First, the society is set up to be a very bad thing, but we don't ever see them working in the shadows until the author needed them to move the "plot" forward.
If Carter (MMC) really wanted to dismantle the society like he threatened to, he would have. But he just made idle threats and broken promises.
The readers are kept in the dark for so much of the story. The characters have secrets, and we never get to learn about them.
So much of the last 20% of the book was the author setting up the rest of the series.

The FMC was the weakest, passive, most uninspiring woman to have ever been written. She allows everyone in her life to control her, acts like a child when she doesn't get her way, and accepts terrible treatment from all the men in her life and keeps the door open for a relationship with her father. How utterly pathetic.

Don't even get me started on the "romance" between the FMC and the MMC. It was soooooooo drawn out, overly written, cliched, and just dumb. So much wishy washiness from the MMC and the FMC just accepts being treated like crap. THERE WAS NO GROVEL.

The town of Briar Rose and its importance wasn't developed; the society wasn't developed; the MC's didn't have well rounded personalities.

Apparently the act of gooogling was beyond the author since she doesn't understand that if someone becomes a pilot, they have to agree to a 10 year contract. That was just forgotten. Author didn't understand that if someone is in grad school, most of the classes are in the evening.

So much of this story had huge potential and it was wasted on an author who didn't value editors and anything they suggested.

Nicknames for the FMC, because like any modern day KU author, 21387648276430238746023 nicknames must be used.

Name of the FMC: Sarafina - which can already be shortened to Sara. That wasn't good enough for everyone tho.
Sweet girl, sweetheart, rookie, pretty girl, Da Vinci, gorgeous, Sar-Bear, Sar, rookie, little troublemaker, wild girl, honey, kiddo, Sour Patch, baby, and princess.

I thought I knew what I was getting myself into with Dangerous Little Dares, but what a slow-burning, angsty adventure it was. What I love most is that the story will continue as it follows a group of friends, and it all starts with Carter and Sara.

Carter and Sara had so many “will they or won’t they” and “should he or shouldn’t he” moments, all intertwined with the secrets they both were withholding. Carter mainly holds back to protect Sara. Though Sara is his best friend and her brother is his other friend, things are challenging with their friendship—especially as he has feelings for her. But big brother Liam has made it clear to stay away.

As mentioned earlier, as the story builds, there are many angsty moments along with the budding romance that builds between Sara and Carter. But Carter's secretive life begins to spill over, and the action involved was quite exciting.

I love the group of friends in the story, and I’m so glad I'll be getting their stories, too. Sara’s brother Liam is quite a mystery, though I have some more thoughts about him after reading the ending.

Dangerous Little Dares is a hefty-paged book, but I barely noticed because I enjoyed the story.

This book had me from page one and I could not put it down. What starts out as a game of dares quickly turns into something deeper—secrets, danger, and the kind of messy, addictive chemistry that makes you read way past bedtime.

Sara was such a fun main character. She’s fiery, stubborn, and brave enough to push back when Carter tests her. And Carter… wow. The secret society backstory and the fact that he joined the military just to escape it gave him so much depth. He’s layered, complicated, and exactly the kind of character who keeps you glued to the page.

The dares were my favorite part—they started out playful but turned more intense and emotional as the story went on. Every single one pulled me in, and the tension between Sara and Carter was incredible. Their banter, their chemistry, the way they challenged each other—it was everything I love in a romance.

Charlie Lennon’s writing is fast-paced and addictive. The chapters are short, the tension never lets up, and yet there are still these moments that hit you right in the chest. I devoured this book and already know I’ll be thinking about Sara and Carter for a long time.

If you want an angsty, daring, and spicy romance with secrets and unstoppable chemistry, this is it. Easily a 5-star read for me.

I appreciated how the relationship between the main characters was portrayed. Their connection felt genuine, and the lighthearted banter between them added a sweetness that balanced the story nicely.

What didn’t work for me was the pacing, it took me quite a while to get through this book. The plot itself had potential, but it dragged on far longer than necessary. By the time I hit the half way mark, I was already ready for it to wrap up and nearly DNF’d. Since it was an ARC, I pushed through, but it often felt like too many plotlines were squeezed together, almost like two books in one. Instead of keeping me hooked, it left me feeling a bit weighed down.

A few of the side characters did catch my interest, but not quite enough to make me want to continue the series.

If you enjoy tropes like best friend’s sibling, years of pining, tangled family drama, mafia undertones, and all the chaos of wealthy families, this might be right up your alley. For me, though, the writing and pacing just didn’t fully land. 🫶🏻

When I saw this book pop up on my tiktok, I was first drawn to the cover and sweet author. Then, I learned what it was about, and knew I had to read it. When the arc hit my inbox I might’ve actually screamed and maybe blacked out? I really didn’t know what to expect with this book, but it did NOT disappoint!! This was a chunky book which I was so grateful for because I never wanted it to end. I really enjoyed all the characters (main and side) and am so excited to find out who the next book will star! I love that the progression of the main characters relationship felt organic and real. There was never a moment I felt anything was rushed. All the micro tropes? I ATE them up. This book definitely has its morally gray moments and touches on some serious subjects. I would recommend checking the content warning before reading. Grief is a heavily talked about and present topic in this book. Overall, I can’t wait to see where Charlie takes this series and am so grateful to have got a chance to read this!

Dangerous Little Dares follows Sarafina (Sara), a fiercely independent young woman navigating complicated love, friendship, and the messy, dangerous secrets of the men in her life — particularly Carter, her intense, emotionally guarded love interest.

The book opens with Sara reeling from a photo that shocks her and pushes her to confront Carter after weeks of silence. Their relationship has always been passionate but volatile, and this moment forces them to face hard truths about trust, loyalty, and the emotional risks they’re both willing to take.

Liam, Sara’s brother, has his own arc — struggling with secrets he’s keeping to protect someone he loves, even at the cost of his own happiness. His chapters provide a second perspective that deepens the tension around family, love, and moral choices.

Carter’s arc explores guilt, redemption, and vulnerability. We see him in high-stakes situations (including his career as a pilot), wrestling with past trauma and learning to open up. His protective instincts often clash with Sara’s need for independence, creating friction that drives the story forward.

Throughout the book, themes of trust, forgiveness, danger, and emotional risk are front and center. Sara and Carter are constantly challenged — both by external threats and by their own fears — to decide whether love is worth the chaos it brings.

The book ends on a hopeful but still intense note: Sara and Carter’s relationship has survived several “dangerous little dares,” but their future will depend on whether they can keep choosing each other despite the storms that keep coming.

ARC Review – Dangerous Little Dares by Charlie Lennon
I was so lucky to receive an early ARC version of this book. Thank you Charlie and PenPalPR!

I absolutely loved Dangerous Little Dares! Sara and Carter’s love story had me kicking my feet the entire time. Their banter was so much fun, and I adored the callbacks woven throughout the book—it made the story feel even more special. You can really tell Charlie put her whole heart and soul into writing this, and it truly shows on every page.

I will say, this was a much larger book than I expected, but it never once dragged. I loved every page of it!

If I had one small wish, it would be for a little more description when it came to the characters and settings, just to make the world feel even more vivid. (But thats also coming from a fantsay/romantasy reader!) But honestly, that didn’t take away from my enjoyment. The story itself kept me hooked, and I was completely invested in Sara and Carter’s journey.

Overall, this was such a sweet and engaging read, and I’m already so excited for the next book. Charlie Lennon has definitely gained a new fan in me!

Super thankful to have received an ARC of this book!!

Oh my gosh - Charlie may have just written my favorite book boyfriend ever 👀 Carter is the most perfect man - absolutely obsessed, like would burn the whole wold down obsessed, with Sara. There’s nothing hotter than a man that knows exactly how he feels 🥵

The banter between Carter and Sara was TOP TIER 🤭 there was the perfect amount of angst and drama in this book - I was giggling when Carter & Sara finally decided to be together!

The Society & their members had me gasping the entire time. What did they want? Who was a member? What were they willing to do? How can they be stopped?

Tropes:
✨Brother’s Best Friend
✨Friends to Lovers
✨Who did this to you?
✨Forced Proximity
✨Billionaire
✨Slow Burn
✨Morally Grey but Golden Retriever for her

This book surpassed all my expectations & I CANNOT WAIT for book 2!! 🤩

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 Solid 4.5 stars!

I was graciously given an ARC ahead of launch, and holy shit… I was hooked from page one. I live for good tropes, and this book nailed them: brother’s best friend, tortured self-sacrifice, and the secret love that simmers under every scene.

The buildup was delicious, and while the beat spice didn’t hit until the end, damn I promise it was worth the wait and the build up is chefs kiss 🧑‍🍳💋. Between the action, the tangled web of family secrets, and the tantalizing hints of what’s still to come, I’m already desperate for book two.

Please let it be Dante’s story next—I am so ready to take a bite out of that.

Dangerous Little Dares is book one in The Society of Secrets series.

OMG this book is amazing! I get a little overwhelmed by thick books sometimes but this book is written so well that it held my attention! It was so hard to put this book down but when you have a book over 600 pages and you need sleep and have a life you have to unfortunately lol.. I think the author did a fantastic job with the character development, and story building. This is a slow burn but it is well worth it! This is the first book I've read from this author and I can't wait to get my hands on more!!

This book has a good plot and story but it was hard for me to really get into it for most of the book. I do believe that was more of a me issue than the writing. Felt like there was a lot going on at the same time that it felt like not much was really happening. This book has secret society, special forces, mob, battle with grief, best friend & brothers best friend, haunted corn mazes and haunted houses. Still a good one for others to check out

This wasn't the worst book but it was longer than it needed to be and so dramatic. I enjoyed the relationship and feelings between the fmc and mmc alot. I felt like the story jumped alot and almost always jumped into a new problem.

I just finished my ARC copy of this book and I'm leaving my honest thoughts and review.

Let me just say, this story was VERY well done and I find it difficult to believe this is the author’s debut novel. The writing was excellent, very descriptive and detailed, with some fun references thrown in! I will say, the spice was a little much for me, but that’s just a personal preference. Having said that, this novel has it all; romance, mystery, thrills, grief/coping, danger, twists, complicated relationships, and SECRETS. Lovedddd Sara and Carter, and the supporting characters as well. Everyone’s tone/development was very well balanced and consistent overall, and when the secrets come out it’s like WHATTTTTT. Everyone has something to hide, even when you don’t think they do, THEY DO. All in all, this was an easy 5 stars for me.

If I could give this book 6 stars I would. There's a mix of comedy, spice, danger and a heroic save a few times. I love the relationship between all the characters.

Carter is Sara's older brothers best friend and they have had eyes for each other for years. Liam kept telling Carter to stay away.....
