What's the first rule of fight club?
Don’t invite the friggin' Reaper to fight club!
Cryptids are turning up dead all over Charlotte, and this time it's not Harker's fault. He's tasked with finding out who is killing shifters and leaving their bodies in conspicuous places, and the best way to do that is to go undercover where the killings are taking place, find out who's in charge, and persuade them to stop.
Persuade them in the very Quincy Harker way, of course.
So Harker hides his identity and gets himself conscripted as one of the combatants in Charlotte's very own cryptid cage fighting arena, battling it out with vampires, werewolves, and faeries, oh my! Along the way, he makes a friend (yeah, pretty much only one—have you met Harker?), learns to embrace the nickname he's always hated, and throws down in some truly epic battles. Then he squares off against an uber-powerful vampire in the Main Event, and business really picks up.
When Harker finally figures out who's running this ring of lethal combat sports, the answer is one he never suspects and leads to a final confrontation he never wanted. But sometimes, when the chips are down, you really should in fact fear the Reaper.

The trouble with reading both the Harker series as well as the Bubba one is that sometimes the timelines are screwy. Until the massive crossover it wasn’t a big deal. Both men were aware of the other, but never interacted. The last Bubba book, Church on Time, was Harker showing up for Bubba's long awaited nuptials to Amy. That ended in a cliff-hanger that looked like the two were going to have to go visit off-plane relatives. No mention was made of those events. I had an expectation that I was glad didn’t happen. Quincy needs some friends.
Now to Red. One of the biggest mistakes Jim Butcher ever did was have Karrin and Bob first meet in a short story from the anthology, My Big Fat Supernatural Wedding. Something that important should have happened in the main series. The events in Red are beginning to be felt. I have never gotten into Poe, so I didn’t read the anthology Nevermore: Tales Inspired by Edgar Allan Poe. Thankfully, John released the short story as a stand-alone book, one that I enjoyed greatly. I imagine there are others out there who will be completely lost when the events in Georgia are mentioned.
I am a bit leery of who the next big-bad is. We already knew about them from an earlier book, but I rather loathe the idea. I trust that Hartness will make it all work. He has had very few stories that I haven’t loved over the eight years since I discovered Harker and all of the amazing characters that entails.
Now for the nitpicks. Seriously, a hi-and-bye is all we get from !?
Then there were the numerous mistakes that are definitely not the norm.
For example:
Anthony and Steve were going at head other hammer and tongs.
WTH is all of that dribble supposed to mean?
I guess “head” was supposed to be “each”. That still means “like” was missing.
Later on, Harker was talking to Becks. This is how it showed in the book:
how he could get the idea that
“Have you pissed anybody
It was like the last part of Harker’s lines were just missing. There weren’t any closing quote marks. It was quite odd.
Even so, I am glad to have Harker back out here again. Time with him is time well spent.

Hartness continues to be a master storyteller. If you aren't already reading Quincy Harker then there's nothing I can do to get you to read this. If you are, then GRAB THIS BOOK NOW! John has cats to feed.

adrenaline read
Again.
I like Quincy and all the snark. Plus his love of bacon and fine whisky (although he is partial to irish whiskey). This has so many levels of betrayal that they are beginning to hurt. But you do know who you can trust. It felt like a dungeon game role playing but with hysterical comments. And yes of course there is another book coming as they are now heading back to atlanta. Becks is the best, I can never think of Dracula as Luke. I like the new IT gal too. Gearing up to the new century ;) or yet another century. Enjoy the ride.

As cryptids start turning up dead, Harker and the team start investigating and find hostility in the para community and then a secret fight club. After infiltrating the club, Harker is soon fighting for survival and releasing the Reaper.

This one has more revelations. Also, it sets up the next installment better. A good enjoyable story to read. Worth the time.

Excellent
This is an excellent fast paced, page turning, Quincy Harker adventure. The Reaper goes incognito into a dangerous fight club to uncover who runs it and to shut it down.
