The New York Times bestselling Queen of Twists is back with a psychological masterpiece that will leave you questioning everything you know about love, identity, and revenge.
Eden Fox, an artist on the brink of her big break, sets off for a run before her first exhibition. When she returns to the home she recently moved into, Spyglass, an enchanting old house in Hope Falls, nothing is as it should be. Her key doesn’t fit. A woman, eerily similar to her, answers the door. And her husband insists that the stranger is his wife.
One house. One husband. Two women. Someone is lying.
Six months earlier, a reclusive Londoner called Birdy, reeling from a life-changing diagnosis, inherits Spyglass. This unexpected gift from a long-lost grandmother brings her to the pretty seaside village of Hope Falls. But then Birdy stumbles upon a shadowy London clinic that claims to be able to predict a person's date of death, including her own. Secrets start to unravel, and as the line between truth and lies blurs, Birdy feels compelled to right some old wrongs.
My Husband’s Wife is a tangled web of deception, obsession, and mystery that will keep you guessing until the last page. Prepare yourself for the ultimate mind-bending marriage thriller and step inside Spyglass – if you dare – to experience a story where nothing is as it seems.

"Home always isn't where heart is sometimes it's where hurt is"
Let me start by saying this: I’ve always loved Feeney’s books. She’s literally one of the authors who sits comfortably on my priority list, no matter what. But this book? Oh my gosh. It absolutely blew my mind in the best, most chaotic way possible. I’ve been craving a book that would shake me to my core, something that would completely take over my brain… and this was it.
I’m going to be honest as much as I adore Feeney, her recent books hadn’t been hitting that same sweet spot for me. I kept waiting and waiting for something that would snap me back into that old excitement, and low-key, I was scared this one would miss too. But it didn’t. Not even close. I loved every single second of it. I devoured it so fast because there was just no way I could stop. The grip this book had on me should honestly be studied.
You know those stories that just grab you by the throat, drag you into the plot, and refuse to let you breathe until the very end? Yeah… that’s exactly what this felt like. I may or may not have neglected a few responsibilities just so I could keep reading but can you blame me? It was that good.
Not gonna lie, Feeney truly redeemed herself with this one.
➳ About the book :-
This book kicks off with a woman returning from her run, ready to walk into her house like any normal day… except her own front door suddenly refuses to open. She tries the lock again and again, convinced she’s just tired or slipping but nope. And then the real chaos begins: her husband, the man she’s been married to for years, doesn't recognise her. Like, genuinely looks at her as if she’s a complete stranger.
From that moment on, she’s thrown into this spiraling confusion, trying her best to make sense of what’s happening. She talks to people, reaches out for help, tries every possible angle but instead of clarity, she gets hit with something even wilder. There’s another woman out there who looks exactly like her. Same face, same everything… and she’s pretending to be her. Because of that, everyone around the actual FMC thinks she’s lying, unstable, delusional basically losing it.
The tension only builds when she goes to see her own daughter, hoping at least she will recognise her… and even her daughter looks at her like she’s a stranger. That moment alone had me clutching my chest. And from there? It just keeps escalating, layer after layer, until an even more unexpected twist hits and throws everything into chaos all over again.
Honestly, this book kept serving me plot twists like it was on a mission. I read thrillers like candy, and I genuinely could not predict a single thing. Not one. Every time I thought I had cracked the mystery, the book was like, “lol nice try.” And that final twist? I swear, I did not see it coming. I considered every possible scenario… but this one? Hell no. It shook me straight to my core.
➳ About the characters :-
Not going to lie, nobody does the unreliable narrator trope better than Feeney and this book proved it again. I swear, I couldn’t trust a single character. Not the actual FMC, Eden, definitely not her husband Harrison (the way he acted?? suspicious), and absolutely not Birdy. I mean, be honest… who’s putting their faith in someone name Birdy? And Gabriella, the daughter? Yeah, even she had me side-eyeing every line she said, not that she said much.
Every single character kept dropping suspicious hints, acting weird, or saying something that made me question everything I thought I knew. I was genuinely playing detective at this point, trying to figure out who the real villain was. And the funniest part? The person who actually turned out to be the antagonist was nowhere on my radar. Not even close. I know I’ve said this like a hundred times now, but truly I did not see that twist coming. At all.
The characters were also mildly infuriating at times because they kept drifting away from the actual point, and I wanted to shake them like, “HELLO?? focus??” That little frustration is literally the only reason I’m not giving this book a full five stars. That… and the fact that I’m a tiny bit of a hater anyway.
➳ Final Thoughts :-
Not to be biased or anything, but this was the book that fully restored my faith in Feeney. Like… she really said “let me remind you who I am” and delivered. And the fact that I got the ARC? I’m still not over it. I was already planning to buy the book the second it hit shelves, so getting approved for the ARC of my most anticipated read felt absolutely unreal. Peak reader moment fr.
This thriller is a whole whirlwind plot twists, suspense, chaos, drama, the works. Exactly what I needed, especially after my last thriller left me feeling so meh. Maybe I’m just picky or maybe that book wasn’t meant for me, but this one? It hit the perfect spot and showed up in my life at the exact right time.
°˖➴ "Overall, if you’re an Alice Feeney girly, you need to pick this one up. It’s packed with thrill, tension, and the kind of chaotic plot twists that make you sit up straight like, “HELLO???” Honestly, what more do you even want? Suspense? Check. Drama? Check. Unhinged characters? Double check.
So yeah, do yourself a favour, honey go read this. You won’t regret it. " 💋

My husband’s Wife by Alice Feeney Performed by a full cast narration featuring Bel Powley, Henry Rowley and Richard Armitage 8 hrs 58 minutes at 1x 5 hrs 59 minutes at 1.5 x
SIX months ago, Birdy discovered TWO things-that she has a terminal illness, and that she has inherited Spyglass, from her long lost grandmother in Hope Falls. She can’t quite wrap her mind around the fact that she owns this beautiful estate so when she arrives she tentatively knocks on the door with the brass bird knocker, expecting someone to answer. When no one does, she fits her key into the lock and opens the door. Inside, she finds a fancy envelope that looks like a wedding invitation with just two sentences on the front : Everyone knows their birthday. If you could know your death day, would you want to?
SIX months later, on October 30th, Eden Fox decides to go out for her run. She leaves everything behind in her new home, Spyglass, taking only her key. “Life is filled with sliding doors and dead ends” she muses, and she hopes this move to Hope Falls will be a fresh start for her and her husband, Harrison. Upon returning home, she slots the key into the front door lock but it doesn’t seem to fit. She knocks on the door with its new Fox knocker, but her husband doesn’t answer. Instead, it’s a woman who looks a lot like her-and she claims to be Eden Fox when asked.
IF our jogger is the REAL Eden Fox-then WHO is the woman in her home? This would be taking gaslighting to another level.
How did we get from point A to point B? A whole lot has happened in SIX months!
An unsolved DEATH.
Several LIES. .
And, a whole lot of COINCIDENCES. . .
This fast paced psychological thriller unfolds from the alternating POV’s of Eden, Birdy, Harrison, AND Sergeant Luke Carter, who along with his boss is aware that there is at least ONE coincidence too many.
I was IMMEDIATELY intrigued by this FUN and TWISTY story, which I think is one of Alice Feeney’s BEST books to date. I actually made quite a few guesses which turned out to be correct, but not to worry-the author had a FEW MORE twists up her sleeve which I didn’t see coming too.
ESPECIALLY the one revealed AFTER the epilogue.
4.5 stars ⭐️
A buddy read with Marilyn, Mary Beth and DeAnn, so do check out their reviews as well!
EXPECTED PUBLICATION DATE: January 20, 2026
I was able to pair this Audible with a written copy shared with me by GR friend Maren (MarenReads)-thank you Maren!
Thank You to Macmillan Audio for the gifted Audiobook provided by NetGalley Shelf. As always, these are my candid thoughts!
4.5 rounded up to 5 for GR! Alice’s books are always SOOOO much fun and full of insanely delicious twists. MY HUSBAND’S WIFE fits that vibe yet again (and how fun is this book title?!)
if you’re looking for a book that… - grabs you right away - has short chapters / can help you out of a slump - has a fun setting (small town set on a cliff) - unreliable narrators and full of characters you have no idea if you can trust or not - has multiple twists 🤯🤯🤯 - always keeps you guessing … look no further!!!!
Alice Feeney never lets me down!!!
thriller lovers will love this come its release in January. it’s a good blend of psychological and domestic thriller and i had NO idea where it was going, which is always fun for a thriller.
a woman comes home from a run and finds her door locked, locks on the door changed, and another person pretending to be her… and her husband is going along with it 👀😱
if that doesn’t grab you, idk what will!
and the ending chapter??? YUP!!!! love it when thrillers aren’t tied up with a little bow 👏🏼
if i had one comment it was that there was a bit too much going on… my head was low key dizzy at one point lol! towards the end, each chapter was jampacked with plot twists and it was a lot of fun but also hard to follow.
I’ve already put in my request on NetGalley, but who knows if the publisher will say yes or no this time? Fingers crossed it doesn’t just get lost in the pile! Honestly, I’m not sure what I might’ve done to rub them the wrong way—sometimes it feels like my requests just vanish into the void. Fingers crossed for better luck next time!
4.25⭐ Genre ~ domestic thriller Setting ~ England Publication date ~ January 20, 2026 Publisher ~ Flatiron Books/Macmillan Audio Est Page Count ~ 320 (17 chapters +e) Audio length ~ 8 hours 58 minutes Narrator ~ Bel Powley, Henry Rowley & Richard Armitage POV ~ multiple 1st Featuring ~ multiple timelines, terminal cancer diagnosis, references to suicide
Y’all, I was hooked from chapter one. Imagine coming home after a run and your key doesn’t work. Then a woman who looks like you, and your husband, both try to tell you you’re not who you think you are. Intriguing!
Eden is the wife Harrison is the husband that works for a mysterious company (would I want to know? Not sure really) Birdie has received a cancer diagnosis and has sold her Grandmother’s house to Eden & Harrison Carter is the young small town cop
I don’t really want to say too much about this one. There’s a lot going on, but everything is easy to follow along with. Are some things a bit OTT? Sure, but still I’m pretty sure this will be a hit for many fast paced twisty thriller lovers. What an ending, too!
Narration notes: SO happy there are multiple. There's even some sound effects for some extra pizzazz. It’s very well done.
Talk about whiplash!!! They don't refer to Alice Feeney as the "Queen of Twists" for nothing. My head is reeling after reading, My Husband's Wife. I wasn't quite sure what was happening during the first half of the book, but I was fully invested and intrigued! Once the second half came around, I had to hold onto my hat because Alice Feeney blew me away with one twist after another!
Eden Fox went for a run before her first art exhibit. When she returned to Spyglass, her new home, she was shocked when another woman opened the door and that her husband, stated that the new woman was his wife! Talk about a shocker!!!
Birdy has just received a shocking and alarming diagnosis and from a clinic in London which predicts the date of one's death, she is left reeling. When she inherits her reclusive grandmother's home of Spyglass, she returns to Hope Falls....
I usually have a good idea where a book is going when I hit the halfway mark, but not with My Husband's Wife. I still had more questions than answers. I had no idea what was going on or where Alice Feeney was taking me, but I enjoyed the ride! Once the second half kicked in, Alice Feeney delivered!!!! Holy Cow! What a reveal! I mean seriously, I did not see the few reveals which occurred coming. Some were minor but that one reveal was a complete and total shocker!!!!
This book is full of secrets, lies, tension, dread, and characters who are up to no good! I enjoyed not fully knowing where this book was heading and enjoyed the riveting and twist-filled ride! As with her other books, My Husband's Wife was wonderfully written, well thought out, and shocking!
I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed the narration!
**A wonderful witches reads buddy read with Dorie - Cats&Books :)! Please be sure to read her review as well to get her thoughts on My Husband's Wife!!
Thank you to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
Yes, she’s back with a rousing chorus of three cheers from Yorkshire.
30th October, Hope Falls. As Eden Fox runs through the picturesque Cornish seaside village she leaves her worries and issues behind but her problems are just beginning. When she returns to ‘Spyglass’, her cliffside home with husband Harrison Woolf, her key doesn’t fit in the lock. She raps the door knocker three times fully expecting him to answer the door… except a woman does, someone she’s never seen before and yet looks strangely familiar as they look alike. Not only that, but this person is wearing HER dress and claims to be Eden Fox and even more astonishing, Harrison insists she is his wife. What?? Eden’s confusion deepens and turns to rage. Meanwhile, in London, Birdy (Olivia Bird) gets the worst of diagnosis and decides there are things she must do before it’s too late. The tale is told via several points of view.
“Curiouser and curiouser!” Cried Alice… Well, this Alice has me asking a million questions right from the beginning and of course, I’m absolutely hooked and eagerly anticipating the Queen Alice twists that lie ahead and I’m not disappointed. It’s perplexing and deeply intriguing as I try to figure out the whys and wherefores, with cliffhanger chapter endings or revelations that blow my theories out of the Cornish water. The ‘I don’t see that coming’ moments have my brain in a spin and my mind is blown and every so often I’m sure my jaw drops and eyes pop. There are twists right to the end which is typically Alice Feeney unexpected and which blows me away, possibly off the cliffs at Hope Falls.
There’s mystery in pretty much every direction as characters are hiding things and in some cases positively submerging them. There are local legends or legendary characters that create an aura around the place and selecting Cornwall in which to set this novel creates its own unique atmosphere. Hope Falls prides itself for being crime free, absolutely safe but it gives me the heebie-jeebies. It’s intensely claustrophobic, with Spyglass overlooking the village and seeing all, with the surrounding and enveloping moors - Blackmoor - giving Lorna Doone vibes, although that’s Exmoor!! It’s atmospheric in spades and not necessarily a good one.
There are several layers to the plot one of which is very creative and thought provoking which I don’t want to give away but which makes me question and reflect… Would I??? You’ll have to read it to find out what I’m talking about! Finally, there is some of the authors on brand dark humour which is very British too. Your life going to pot? Have a cup of tea.
Overall, this is so good and one which I can highly recommend as this very talented author has well and truly delivered an immersive, cracking plot.
PS there’s a dog too - Sunday, but don’t worry, he’s fine.
With thanks to NetGalley and huge thanks to Pan Macmillan for the much appreciated early copy in return for an honest review.
Eden and her husband Harrison recently bought Spyglass in the town of Hope Falls. A house set into the cliffside with views of the sea. This is exactly the change they needed to help mend their marriage.
Eden heads out on her evening jog only to return home to find her key doesn't fit the lock. Panicked she continues to try to get it to work when the door opens and another woman stands looking at her. Eden can't believe her eyes. Who is this woman?
The woman claims to be Eden Fox and says that this is her house and that Harrison is her husband.
Eden can't believe what she's hearing. Then Harrison, her husband, does the unthinkable. He tells her he has no idea who she is and to stop scaring his wife or he'll call the police.
Then we also follow Birdie. A woman who was just given a terminal diagnosis. She is going to leave London to return to Hope Falls to tie up some loose ends before it's too late. While in Hope Falls she becomes entangled in the drama of Eden and Harrison.
If that plot line sounds a bit bananas to you it's because it is. In the best way possible.
I admit when Feeney first hit the scene I was devouring her books with gusto. Then we hit a hiccup when the last three of her books didn't work for me. I was bummed to say the least.
I'm happy to say that this book right here reminds me of the Feeney I know and love. This is a rollercoaster tale with many sharp twists and turns and nearly all of them took me by surprise. I love when that happens.
If you like shady characters, an unpredictable plot, and jaw dropping revelations then look no further. This was a lot of fun! 4 stars!
Won in a Goodreads giveaway - many thanks to Goodreads and Flatiron Books for my copy!
My Husband’s Wife written by Alice Feeney is a keenly written, yet peculiar psychological thriller. This novel has so many obscure and wildly curious happenings that it had my head spinning. This mystery unfolds in a seaside town called Hope Falls and in and around a beautiful estate named Spyglass.
At times this book was unsettling, with cumbersome details that confused and stalled the flow of the story. I also felt both sorry for and curious about each of the two main female characters. Although both seemed somewhat confident in a weird quirky sort of way-neither came across as super likable or dependable. However the narration was fantastic. I listen to this as an audiobook.
The books major themes: 👉Control and manipulation 👉Obsession 👉Deception 👉Family-ties and sisterhood 👉Emotional trauma.
There are three main characters: 🧡Birdy: an abrasive and sad young woman who lives alone in London with her dog Sunday. She has no connection to any family, and has a mysterious past. 🧡Eden: an aspiring artist, married to Harrison and together they live in the Spyglass estate. 🧡Harrison: He is the husband of Eden. He is charismatic and handsome and controlling.
There are two timelines separated by 6 months when this story unfolds. The story opens with Eden living her best life at Spyglass estate and is preparing for her first art show that evening. She leaves for a run only to return to her home and find the house all locked up. Her key doesn’t work and there is another woman inside the house. What has happened? And who is that woman and why does she look just like me? Why doesn’t my key work? Sanity is questioned. Identity is stolen. Life thwarted.
6 months earlier Birdy learns she has only a short time to live and is all alone. Who will care for Sunday? Then, there is someone at her door. Who could that be? She literally knows no one. Shocked and confused, she answers the door. She tells them to go away. But the visitor is insistent and so… she opens the door…invites them in and curiously receives “head-spinning” news. What does this stranger deliver? Birdy’s world is shook!
Here is where the story unravels. And honestly, so did my interest. There is just so much to follow and so many “things” to keep track of. For me, it was just over the top. To track all of this…lines blurred and questions. So many questions. It gave me a headache! 😳
My Husband’s Wife is a well written domestic mystery with many, many shady undertones, plot flips and storylines. This domestic thriller was both addicting and off-putting. I do know one thing, if you are a fan of this author-you will be a fan of this one. Honestly speaking, she just might not be my cup of tea🙃.
Thank you to McMillan audio and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts and review. Expected publication January 20, 2026
If you could find out the day you will die, would you want to know?
Alice Feeney has done it again in with her new domestic suspense thriller, My Husband’s Wife! All hail to the queen of the twists! I’ve said it before, but Alice Feeney proves time and again that she can do no wrong!
This book is filled with so many twists and turns; my head was spinning! I dare you to successfully predict the ending!
When Eden Fox returns to Spyglass, her new home in Hope Falls after a run, her key does not fit into the lock. A strange woman opens the door, and her husband insists she is his wife and that she is a stranger. Who is lying?
Six months ago, Birdy was diagnosed with Cancer at the same time she learned that she inherited Spyglass from a grandmother she didn’t know she had. Curious, she returns to Hope Falls and finds a letter her grandmother received from a clinic that successfully predicted the day of her death. Maybe she can find out exactly how long she has left to live.
Birdy begins to investigate, and secrets begin to unravel. Nothing is as it seems in Hope Falls!
I listened to the audiobook which is expertly read by Bel Powley, Henry Rowley and Richard Armitage while also following along with the Ebook. I highly recommend the audiobook format, as it also includes sound effects, which really enhanced my reading experience.
The book deals with themes of love, identity, revenge, and deadly obsessions.
You won’t want to put it down!
4.5/5 stars rounded down
Expected publication date:1/20/26
Thank you to NetGalley, Edelweiss, Flatiron Books and MacMillan Audio for the ARC of My Husband’s Wife in exchange for an honest review.
They don’t call Alice Feeney the Queen of the Thriller Twist for no reason and her newest work, My Husband’s Wife is a prime example as to why.
Admittedly I was a bit apprehensive about picking this one up since I didn’t love her prior work, Beautiful Ugly. But I’m so glad I did!
Propulsive, fast paced, plot driven, and reminiscent of her earlier work (especially His & Hers), My Husband’s Wife is one highly entertaining story. I found myself on the edge of my seat unable to put this one down. It’s one of those books where you think you know what’s going to happen then BAM! Another twist is thrown in leaving you reeling.
I listened to the audiobook version of My Husband's Wife, which is narrated by Bel Powley (who I adored in the miniseries A Small Light), Henry Rowley, and Richard Armitage.
My Husband’s Wife by Alice Feeney will be available on January 20. Many thanks to Macmillan Audio for the gifted audiobook!
My tip for this book- go in blind! Just start the audio and buckle up. The ending does lean too convoluted for me to believe but oooof, I love me some good twists!
One of the most immersive audiobook listening experiences I’ve ever had!
A woman returns home from a run to find her key doesn’t work in her front door. When she rings the doorbell, a woman answers claiming to be the woman who lives there.
There were many things I was drawn to in this story. Secluded, dark and eerie atmosphere. An old manor house on a cliffside estate. Small town police detective. Multiple timelines merging into one. A loveable dog companion alongside a main character. However, suspension of disbelief is required to enjoy this book and that is something I really struggle with.
If you are a reader who can suspend disbelief to escape into a super twisty, fast paced popcorn thriller with a silly and shocking (over-the-top) storyline, then you will love this! I know this will be a winner for many! It’s a fun, crazy, unpredictable romp into a wild, suspenseful and thrilling journey.
I did have fun listening to this, but I had absolutely no investment or connection as the storyline is an extreme eye-roller. Anyone who follows my reviews knows I need to be able to believe the storylines I read. There was not one ounce of believability to this plot. Although it was a fun, escapism read, it isn’t one I can say I loved. Way too far fetched on many levels.
One of my biggest issues was there was so much important information in the storyline that was purposely left out and then revealed later on for shock factor that didn’t work for me. I know these shocking moments will thrill many readers, but they didn’t work for me. The ending took implausibility to a whole new level.
Overall, this didn’t work for me, but I am certain that many psychological thriller fans will love this! I simply couldn’t get past the implausibility of the plot.
Audio rating: 5 stars! This was an incredible audiobook listening experience! There were added audio elements of waves splashing, doors opening, footsteps running, etc., that made this an incredibly immersive listening experience. The audio narrators themselves were excellent and added to my enjoyment. Highly recommend the audio!
Thank you to the publisher for my audio review copy!
Thank you so much to Alice Feeney and Flatiron Books for my copy of this much anticipated novel! It was about Eden, a woman who goes on a run to decompress before a big night. When she returns to the house, her key doesn't fit in the lock and a woman who looks like her answers the door. Even scarier, the woman claims to be Eden and her husband agrees. Two women who look alike, one husband, and only one of them is telling the truth.
Thoughts: This book was WILD. You can tell from the premise that it captured my attention immediately. The idea of coming home and being replaced was terrifying and I had to know more. Feeney's writing was phenomenal and the way the story unfolded was interesting. There were so many plot points and characters and I didn't know who or what to trust.
This is one of my favorites of Feeney's recent books. She did a great job incorporating multiple POV and manipulating the perspective. The only reason that this book isn't 5-stars is the very last chapter. I loved the way all the twists came together, but this time throwing in a hail mary twist at the end didn't really work for me. However, this was 4.5 stars and a blast to read!
Alice Feeney is the ultimate thriller binge author and her newest book, MY HUSBAND’S WIFE, is no exception. I think this one is my favorite since HIS & HERS (and my overall second favorite, behind SOMETIMES I LIE). If you’re a fan of Alice Feeney, you’ll love this one!
Eden Fox comes home to find a stranger living her life, and nothing in the eerie house called Spyglass adds up. Meanwhile, another woman named Birdy inherits the same property and uncovers secrets that blur truth, lies, and fate itself. What follows is a twist-tight thriller where identity fractures, obsession festers, and every answer opens a darker door. Go into this book knowing as little as possible, and honestly maybe just looking at my star rating as guidance!
I can’t in good conscience give this book a 5 star because it can be a bit ridiculously unbelievable at times. But in all honesty, I had an absolute blast! 😮💨 MY HUSBAND’S WIFE is twisty and bingeable in all the best ways! Let your guard down and lower your moral compass and common sense BS-reader and you will love this one! STARS: 4.5, PUB: 1/20/26
ALICE FEENEY RANKINGS:
1. Sometimes I Lie 2. My Husband’s Wife 3. His & Hers 4. Beautiful Ugly 5. Rock Paper Scissors 6. Good Bad Girl 7. Daisy Darker 8. I Know Who You Are
[arc review] spectacular give me 14 of them right now!
I want to start this off by saying I’ve always been on the fence with alice feeney and her books. I loved his & hers but didn’t enjoy daisy darker and sometimes I lie. THIS—however—is arguably one of my favourite thriller reads of the year.
my husband’s wife is a multiple first point of view thriller that starts off by following eden fox, who returns home to a woman impersonating her—and her husband going along with it.
I enjoyed this and if I had the time I probably would’ve finished this in one sitting. it’s a fast paced thriller that has you questioning everyone—even the people you might’ve sworn had nothing to do with it.
it’s everything you want from a thriller—not too predictable and when the reveal happens, it shocks you.
4.5* rounded down!
thank you pan macmillan for the advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review!
Imagine going for a run, only to return home and find your keys don’t fit your home lock. The woman who answers the door looks like you and claims she is you. Then, your trusted husband of many years doesn’t seem to recognise you and corroborates the look-alike’s story.
This was my first Alice Feeney and I can see why she’s the queen of twists. This kept me on the toes the whole way through with two timelines set six months apart and two different perspectives. This quickly expands, and by the end, one of my complaints was that it became too convoluted.
Set in Cornwall, we have a small, safe town where nothing (but the occasional suicide off the cliff) happens. We have a jaded, dying woman, a desperate, tragic wife, a naive, popular officer.
All varieties of love are an equation. Time plus life multiplied by hard times plus heartbreak equals love minus lust? Maybe relationships are just a matter of maths? My husband doesn’t love me the way he used to, but he does still love me, I know he does, and perhaps that is all anyone can hope for when they have been together as long as we have.
Whilst I appreciated the twists, I did think that they were unrealistic. It relied on withholding key information until the right time. Information that our pov characters know all the way through but don’t divulge. This is very frustrating as it means there are so many red flags, but convenient reveals. Not only did this slightly detract from the plot, but also meant reader connections with characters dwindled.
However, I know thrillers tend to be about the plot rather than the characters, so there was enough to keep me invested as a character-driven reader.
It’s fast-paced and you won’t be able to look away.
I honestly have no words… because I’m completely shell-shocked by the ending. And yet, here I am with so many words! Alice Feeney is truly a master of her craft. She has a rare talent for crafting characters with intentions you never see coming, and her 2026 novel My Husband’s Wife is no exception.
If you’ve read Feeney before, you know the drill: multiple POVs, lightning-fast chapters, and tension so thick you can cut it with a knife. One twist after another slammed into me so hard that by the time I hit 70%, in my head I was begging her to please stop, because I couldn’t handle any more—but she wasn’t done. The final revelations? Completely fried my brain.
Pro tip: go in blind. Don’t spoil it for yourself. The initial premise is simple yet haunting: Eden Fox goes out for a jog—no phone, no wallet, no ID—and when she returns to the new mansion she shares with her husband Harrison, her key doesn’t work. She knocks, and a woman claiming to be Eden answers the door, while her husband looks at her like she’s a stranger. So, who exactly is her husband’s wife? I promise the book itself is far from simple 😆
Alice Feeney is a master manipulator when it comes to her readers, and I dare say she got me good. I would easily rank this one in my top three Feeney novels, alongside Sometimes I Lie and Daisy Darker. If you love twisting, turn-the-pages-late-into-the-night thrillers, this one is an absolute must-read.
After a run, Eden Fox, an artist on the brink of her big break, returns to the home she recently moved into in Hope Falls and nothing is as it should be. Her key doesn’t fit. A woman, eerily similar to her, answers the door and Eden's husband insists that the stranger is his wife. Six months earlier, a reclusive Londoner called Birdy, reeling from a life-changing diagnosis, inherits Spyglass, an old house in the pretty seaside village of Hope Falls. How these events affect the story to follow is at the heart of this book.
I enjoyed listening to this novel, excellently narrated by Bel Powley, Henry Rowley and Richard Armitage. The sound effects added to the reality of the narration.
There's a lot going on in this twisty story and I won't even attempt to break it down. I had to stretch my disbelief suspenders quite a bit at times but the story is well presented and an entertaining listen. There's quite an info dump near the end which set my head spinning but I think it was necessary to clear up a lot of my confusion. I didn't enjoy this as much as "Beautiful Ugly" by this author but I do recommend it.
My thanks to Macmillan Audio for approving my request to listen to an advance copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own. Publication Date: January 20, 2026
This. was. WILD. Listen, I love multiple twists, but this one had so many it took me quite a long time to get it all straight. But once I did.... Genius. Alice, my thriller queen. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
WHAT did I just read?! This was so twisty I couldn’t keep up with what was going to happen next!! The flawed characters were so intriguing and intense. The short chapters and constant plot twists were 10/10. My first book by this author + I loooved the style of her writing. I immersive read this so I flipped between my physical copy and audio. The audio narration was stunning- the sound effects and podcast like police interviews? So good. This is an amazing domestic and psychological thriller that will keep you guessing. I haven’t read a thriller this good in a minute!
The "Queen of Twists" is very much back in her element.
In "My Husband's Wife", Alice Feeney delivers one of her twistiest, most compulsively readable thrillers yet.
Eden Fox, an artist on the brink of her first big exhibition, returns from a run to her new home to find that her key no longer fits, a woman who looks uncannily like her has answered the door, and her own husband insists that this stranger is his wife. Meanwhile, months earlier in London, Birdy - isolated, grieving, and recently handed an ominous diagnosis -has received an unexpected inheritance from a grandmother she never knew. As the lives of these two women twist ever closer together, the line between truth and lies blurs beyond recognition.
Feeney's books have been hit or miss for me lately, but "My Husbands Wife feels" like the "Queen of Twists" fully back in command. This story is packed with turns - more than even I could predict, and I pride myself on being able to spot them miles away. Even better: they're not empty shocks but layered reveals that deepen a mystery far more complex than it initially seems. In addition, the pacing is sharp from page one, making the book almost impossible to put down.
I listened to the audiobook, and the production was a standout: atmospheric sound effects gave it an almost cinematic flair (though the running sounds were a bit too annoying and fast for my taste), and the narrators - Bel Powley in particular, alongside Henry Rowley and Richard Armitage -brought the shifting perspectives vividly to life.
While some tropes may initially sound familiar, this is Alice Feeney doing what she does best, and doing it well. "My Husband's Wife" is a twisty, immersive psychological thriller that kept me fully engaged until the final reveal. Easily one of my favorite books of hers yet.
Many thanks to MacMillan Audio for providing me with an ARC of the audiobook via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
"My Husband's Wife" is slated to be released on January 20, 2026.
Eden Fox, an artist, sets off on a run only to return to her home, Spyglass, to find herself in an alternate universe. Her key doesn’t fit the lock and the woman who answers the door, claims SHE is Eden Fox.
6 months earlier, Birdy discovers she has inherited her grandmother’s home, Spyglass, in the town of Hope Falls. She had recently received a devastating diagnostic s and when she arrived in Hope Falls she finds a letter from a clinic that claims to predict one’s date of death.
Eden and Birdy weren’t the only ones confused! In the first 50% of the book I wasn’t sure what was going on but I was definitely intrigued enough to keep going.
In the 2nd half all is made clear, including why Alice Feeney is called the Queen of Twists!
To say any more would involve spoilers. But if you are tired of the same old thrillers/domestic suspense stories, this just might be the book to end your slump!
* I received an audio digital copy via NetGalley * The narrators, Bel Powley, Henry Rowley, and Richard Armitage, all did a great job
