Getting fired and humiliated in front of everyone at my newly acquired secretarial job at Brookwood Financial Holdings wasn’t how I’d seen my day going.
And then chaos—or maybe luck—ensued.
I was set up on a blind date, shocked that my former boss was giving me a month’s severance, and had the perfect interview lined up.
Maybe things were looking up for me after all.
And although finding a man should have been on the bottom of my to-do list, I couldn’t get Pope—the uber-sexy blind date—out of my head. Sexy and confident—or maybe arrogant—he had me yearning for more with just a smoldering look and a smirk of his lips.
But when a night of drinking led to getting in bed with him and having the wildest, most intense night of my life, I didn’t know if I should ask to see him again or do the good old walk of shame.
And it was when I walked into my interview the next day and came face-to-face with my prospective employer that the reality of my situation sank in.
Because there, sitting across from me with that devilish smile on his face, that knowing expression of what we’d done the night before, was the one and only Pope, my supposed one-night stand.
Looked like my humiliation wasn’t over just yet.
Formally titled "Wicked Bedmate". This story has been slightly re-edited and re-covered. If you previously read it, the story is the same.
sometimes I wish these books were longer ! sometimes they are just the right amount. I love a good spicy snack read!! this one wasnt one of her usual works but I still love a good office romance. amazing.
This was a short but nice story, and I enjoyed seeing how things unfolded between Olive and Pope.
Olive had just been fired, so she started applying for different jobs. Her friend wanted to cheer her up and told her about his boyfriend’s brother, suggesting they go on a blind date. Olive was hesitant at first, but she eventually agreed. She had a few interviews lined up, and while most of them didn’t work out, she still had one left after her date.
Pope was the CFO of a company, and he didn’t have much time to date, but he accepted the blind date to please his brother. He and Olive had some awkward moments, but they still had a good time. Pope was attracted to her, so he knew he wanted to see her again.
Olive got a little drunk, and the next day she woke up at Pope’s place without remembering if they had slept together. Since she had an interview later that day, she rushed out, not knowing she would see Pope again—this time as her interviewer. She was honest with him about her last job, and it was nice to read how he still wanted to hire her.
Pope didn’t hide that he wanted Olive, and he was determined to show her his feelings. Olive didn’t want to risk her job, but she couldn’t deny her attraction to him or the way her feelings kept growing the more time they spent together. There was a lot of tension between them, and I loved it when they finally acted on their chemistry and opened up about their emotions.
The ending felt a little fast, but since this was a short book, it made sense. Overall, I loved reading their story and seeing how everything worked out for them.
I skimmed some of this and DNF'ed. Not saying it's a bad book necessarily, I just wasn't feeling it.
It's one of those books where you wake up in a hot stranger's bed, and it's your new boss. Because it's always your new boss. The conversation on their blind date is not described in much detail but we know she somehow ended up in his bed, although they didn't have sex because she was very drunk. She's got a job interview the next day, she goes there hungover, and meets him. And he says things like, "I won't stop until I get what I want. And what I want is you." I don't know, supposedly he liked her for her witty personality but the reader doesn't really see her witty side. And what he knows is that she's the sort of person who gets shitfaced and goes to an important interview hung over... So it didn't seem like he had enough information to know she'll be a good employee or a great partner, and the sections from his POV saying how much he liked or loved her seemed somewhat delusional. Incidentally, she goes home after getting the job and drinks two glasses of wine alone, before a friend arrives with a fresh bottle. After her first day at work she goes to buy wine, and meets the boss at the wine shop.
So she may have an alcohol problem and he is the kind of boss who doesn't think there's anything wrong with making advances on an alcoholic employee.
Mi-a plăcut mult!
Another Jenika Snow slow burn novella that I have grown to love. Great way to spend my flight home from Vegas (saw BSB at the Sphere 😁)!
While the third act conflict made me roll my eyes, I loved the way it was resolved. Olive and Pope's story was short and sweet, but enjoyable. And the spice was worth the wait. Especially since I'm a sucker for an office romance and naughty office time 🤭.
The ending was rushed but satisfying, it's a novella afterall.
Favorite Moments: Jenika Snow always makes me swoon in her books 🥹
"But it wasn’t just about sex. She was beautiful, yeah, but she was smart and witty, and her personality was far more attractive to me than anything else."
"And I wish I could have concentrated instead of staring at Pope through his office window and picturing myself sprawled across his desk as we did very inappropriate things. God, I was in way over my head."
Devil in the Details delivers everything I love in a Jenika Snow romance—humor, heart, and heat with just the right amount of chaos.
After Olive is fired in humiliating fashion, her life takes an unexpected turn: a blind date with Pope, a man who is equal parts arrogance and allure. One unforgettable night later, Olive finds herself face-to-face with Pope again… only this time, he’s her prospective employer. What follows is a battle of wills, smoldering tension, and undeniable attraction.
What made this book shine for me was the slow burn tension between Olive and Pope. Their banter crackled, their stolen glances spoke volumes, and when things finally combusted, it was worth every page of build-up.
If you’re looking for a short, steamy, and tension-filled romance with a confident hero and a heroine who won’t back down, Devil in the Details is definitely worth picking up.
If you're looking for a quick read with all the romantic thrills this is for you!! Jenika is truly an artist and did amazing with this book. All the important parts of the FMC, MMC were made while keeping the story about them. I loved there was no extra drama or dragged out issues. The spice was a chefs kiss without obscuring the story. I honestly felt like she wrote someone's real love swept story and made it reality with both the MMC and MFC points of view. If this isn't in your TBR it needs to be!
First of all, this is a re-release of a story that Ms. Snow got the rights back to. She did a bit of editing and changed the cover.
This was a hot and quick read. I love a good office romance and these two made for an interesting read. The build up between them starts with a one night stand and them not knowing who the other is. It just builds from there and was wonderful!
