What a great book! From the moment I started reading, I was completely hooked by the fascinating contrast between Dr. Giselle Carlisle's icy exterior and Dr. Addie Wolfe's warm, compassionate nature. Their initial clash in the high-stakes world of surgery felt incredibly real and made their gradual connection all the more compelling. Emily Hayes does a masterful job of weaving a captivating romance into a story filled with professional challenges and emotional depth. The characters are so well-developed—Giselle's journey from a closed-off, guarded person to someone willing to embrace vulnerability is beautifully written. Addie's unwavering optimism and strength as a single mother make her a truly admirable character. The chemistry between Giselle and Addie is palpable, and the moments they share are both tender and powerful. This book isn't just about finding love; it's about healing, facing past traumas, and learning to trust again. The medical setting adds a unique layer of tension and realism, making the story feel fresh and exciting. "The Beat of Her Heart" is an absolute must-read. It's a heartwarming and deeply emotional romance that will stay with you long after you've turned the final page. I can't recommend it enough!
I really liked this which I was a bit surprised by because of the fact I didn't quite love the last one in the Phoenix Ridge Medical series "Rivals Heart" only because I felt it was too short. This one is different from past ones, in that it is a Enemy-to-lover, contemporary, erotic lesbian romance with themes of loss, love, redemption, second-chance, and learning to let go of the past and embrace the people you have in your life now. An Ice Queen, Dr Giselle Carlisle, and the woman who is an older trailblazer in the hospital who has been there longer than nearly anyone else, the Sunshine-who-melts-her-heart, Dr. Addie Wolfe (a long-time supporting character in past entries who acts as a guide to many others, now gets her own life and love story told). I always like Hayes' longer works as she really flushes out her characters and really is amazing at finding emotional hints and depths within a character. I am amazed also at how quick she can get out the longer books in a series.
Emily Hayes is proving to be a virtual queen of love stories. I’m amazed by the proliferation of delightful characters and situations that she so eloquently delivers. Joy, laughter, angst, anger all triggered by situations or emotions so strongly defined that one is completely swept into them. I love stories set in hospitals as I know them to be such a hotbed of emotions from personal experience. Thanks Emily Hayes, keep writing please.
A beautiful story full of strong, successful and amazing women. Completed characters, realistic dialogues, love scenes and plenty of emotions. Easy to read and loved it
