Dominion Hall #12

The Wolf: A Billionaire Military Romance

Rate this book
I didn’t expect to inherit an inn.
And I definitely didn’t expect it to come with a stranger like him.

My grandmother’s will was
Stay in Charleston for one year.
Don’t sell.
Don’t ask questions.

But questions are all I have.
About the cracks in the walls.
The whispers about the Dane family.
And the man who showed up one stormy night.

Gideon Dane isn’t just some quiet drifter with calloused hands and a stare that could cut glass.
He moves like a soldier.
He watches like a predator.
And when he touches me, I forget every rule I promised to follow.

He says the inn isn’t safe.
That someone is watching.
That he’s here to protect me.

But protection feels a lot like possession in his hands.
And the longer he stays, the more I realize—
The real danger isn’t what’s buried in these walls.
It’s what’s waking up inside me.

Jack Flynn co-writes dark billionaire military romance with Lainey Ray.

Jack is a former military man with a sharp mind, a devilish smirk, and a habit of taking control—in fiction and otherwise. He likes his books like he likes his combat strategies: fast-paced, explosive, and leaving no survivors. When he’s not crafting tactical missions and deadly antiheroes, you can find him reading action thrillers, watching war movies, or engaging in other kinds of action we won’t discuss here.

Jack brings the precision, the danger, and the raw intensity to every Jack & Lainey book. He knows exactly how to build a hero who commands a room, claims a woman, and takes down anyone who dares to stand in his way.

Rumor has it, Jack never loses control … unless Lainey’s involved.

Book 12 delivers exactly what I love about the Dominion Hall series: strong characters, deepening mystery, and another perfectly matched couple. Gideon and Hazel’s chemistry is effortless — the kind of pairing where you immediately feel that “oh yes, these two belong together” energy. Their dynamic adds warmth and steadiness to a story that’s otherwise packed with danger and shifting alliances.

The Vanguard plot finally starts to unravel in meaningful ways, pulling together both the Charleston and Montana Danes (minus two brothers who are clearly being saved for something big). And then there’s Byron — the Dane patriarch finally showing his face and adding a whole new layer to the family’s history and the Vanguard’s motives. It raises the stakes and the questions: how will the last two brothers be brought in, and who exactly is pulling the strings behind this organization?

A strong, engaging addition to the series with romance, action, and family ties woven tightly together. Gideon and Hazel shine, and the overarching mystery keeps building in all the right ways.

Gideon Dane and Hazel Bradford were meant to find one another. He's a man who lives in the shadows, keeps to himself and does his job extraordinarily well yet when called to Charleston he doesn't hesitate despite having little if anything to go on. She's trying to make sense of her grandmother's bequest and she feels is something of a punishment sentence but with her usual determination she'll make the best of it. When Gideon checks in at Hazel's run down, out of the way inn it seems serendipitous. He becomes her champion, protector, investigator and eventually her one and only. Both of their pasts roar to life in unexpected ways and suddenly they're part of the huge Dane clan with all its perks and family ties. Important facts are revealed as the Danes are still battling unknowns but getting closer to the truth by the day.

The heart of the series

It is often very difficult if one is asked the question what was your favorite book in the series? I think for me this book was so significantly different from the previous 11 books. It was a reckoning in many levels. There was a gentleness about it, almost healing, which was preparing us the reader, for what is to come, which is partially solved in this particular story. Gideon and Hazel are just amazing and their story walks across your heart and leaves. Hugs and footprints. They are classic just like this book.
