I'm on chapter 12 and they've only interacted with two other characters (the bartender the first night they met and now the doctor). It's just weird that Kai has had some conversations with other people to tell them about the pregnancy, but it's all off page. It just feels rushed and the lack of other human interactions is weird.

I’m so sorry but this book isn’t bad in terms of the plot or main characters but i could not in good conscience give this a three star. I could be wrong but from this book you could not tell me that the author did any kind of research on trauma, ptsd, postpartum, postpartum depression, child development stages, or how dealing with newborn is at all. Also each side character only had a life for the moments they were needed in the main characters life; like each side character was only a part of the story when they actively engaging with the mmc and fmc. there wasn’t any depth to the friendships, the careers, the sport, the teammates, the city, or even the day to day of the mcs lives. It felt as if each chapter was being told a list of what was happening as it happened. I will say in the height of tension or moment the writing was really good but it was in the in between moments where it felt like i was reading words on paper. Throughout the book i found myself saying “this would never happen” or “what just happened”, and even after finishing it i’m still confused by what i just read.

last thing: that epilogue. in what world is a ONE. YEAR. OLD. speaking multiple syllable words and understanding the concept of scoring a hockey goal?!?

actually last thing: in what world is trauma from waking up after a near death car crash and finding out you had an emergency c section, and being the person to watch your girlfriend go through that with some form of survivors guilt; in what world is it all fixed from an “i love you”?!?!

I received this book via a Goodreads giveaway and I really wanted to like it! I was expecting something like The Rule Book by Sarah Adams but with a surprise pregnancy. I found the characters in this book to be a little wooden, with too much telling and not enough “showing.” Also, as others have said it seems little research was done about pregnancy. Him telling her she can’t drive at 17 weeks? Ridiculous. I’m assuming this is foreshadowing but I likely will not be finishing this book. I DNF at about 20%. Seems like there should also be some trigger warnings included as well, based on other reviews.

Accidentally Met This Author

Met this author in person working her normal job and she recommended her book to me!!! Absolutely amazing girl and an amazing story! Please give this book a read and support her! Everything you could want in a hockey/pregnancy trope. Will recommend to others and hope to see her release some more work soon!
