From the very first page, Shadows of the Past had me wondering how on earth this story was going to turn out and it kept me hooked all the way through. I shed a few tears, had my heart in my throat more than once and loved every minute of it.
The book alternates between two main POVs, Maksim and Julia, but other characters stories and feelings weave into the story in a way that feels fresh and engaging. Their side stories aren’t just filler; they enrich the main plot beautifully.
The timeline jumps are unusual: 27 years ago → 13 years ago → 11 years ago → 2 months ago → present day. I’ll admit, I didn’t quite make sense of the “math” until the very end. At first, the jumps confused me, but in terms of the love story, the structure ended up making perfect sense. The leap from 11 years ago to 2 months ago was big, but not disruptive.
This story is intense and emotionally charged, yet the way Maksim and Julia care for one another, especially when Maksim can’t say the words, is absolutely heart-melting 🥹. Their story wasn’t an easy one, but these two characters never stopped fighting for the life they’ve always dreamed of.
The writing style was an absolute joy to read: smooth, immersive and so well-crafted that I forgot the author isn’t a native English speaker. I flew through this book in just two nights because I simply couldn’t put it down.
Spice-wise, there’s not a lot, but what’s there is perfectly placed and really works for the story and setting.
I received this book as a review copy without having read part 1, but I’m 100% going back for Luna & Roman’s story now. I loved this book that much.

Julia și Maksim mi-au atras atenția din “În umbra obsesiei”, dar nu pot să spun că mă așteptam ca a lor poveste să mă lovească atât de tare, să-mi dea fatala la sentiment și să plâng cu muci de la primele pagini.
Maksim a fost adoptat la o vârstă fragedă și dacă ar fi știut în ce iad intră, ar fi preferat de o mie de ori să rămână la orfelinat.
Julia este capturată și vândută traficanților, iar ceea ce o așteaptă nu e de dorit nici dușmanilor.
Drumurile celor doi se intersectează în iadul traficanților de copii, unde demonii fac legea, și-n acel mediu grețos, Julia și Maksim reușesc să pună bazele unei prietenii, ceea ce nu se așteptau…
Cum ziceam, de la primele pagini ale volumului am plâns, m-a durut sufletul și mă temeam pentru ce aveam să descopăr în continuare. M-a încântat tare mult faptul că povestea lor a fost întinsă pe mai mulți ani, chiar de la începuturi, și până-n prezent, astfel am putut să-mi formez propriile idei în privința lor, să-i observ mai bine și să ajung să-i iubesc cu toată ființa mea. Nu am mai fost de mult așa investită într-o poveste, să empatizez atât de mult cu personajele și să-mi doresc să le sterg fiecare suferință.
Traumele prin care au trecut i-au marcat și-n același timp i-au făcut mai puternici, în ciuda insecurității care părea să le reamintească de ce s-ar întâmpla dacă, să-ți permiți să arăți chiar și o frântură de vulnerabilitate era un pericol imens, să-ți pui o mască și să fii o cu totul altă persoană, să te mulezi după nenorociții care-și duceau traiul în iadul conacului…
Chiar dacă nu a fost o poveste debordantă în acțiune alertă, ci a fost mai pe sentiment și axată pe modul cum funcționează traficul de persoane, eu am savurat-o maxim, mai ales că am avut parte de câteva plot twist-uri pe care nu le-aș fi prevăzut în veci. Atent gândite și menite să te lovească când te aștepți mai puțin, să te determine să te îndoiești de absolut tot și toate.
Pot spune că acest volum a fost preferatul meu în ce priveste povestea, dar și personajele, chiar dacă Maksim nu a fost așa “elicopter” precum Roman, ci a fost mai calculat, mai reținut, iar Julia de asemenea, având în vedere ce a fost nevoită să lase în urmă.

Din detaliile primite în primul volum despre protagoniști, am știut că această carte o să fie pe placul meu, însă nu mi-am imaginat cât de mult mă va captiva și cum se va juca cu sentimentele mele.💛
Povestea urmărește destinele lui Maksim și Julia, două personaje unite de o soartă tragică. Trauma, durerea și suferința reprezintă iadul în care își duc existența, dar, în ciuda acestui haos, reușesc să-și găsească echilibrul și să descopere iubirea.💙
Nu am trecut nici măcar de primele 50 de pagini fără să plâng (sau, mai corect spus, să bocesc). Odată ce a început perspectiva Juliei, am simțit ca mi se rupe sufletul și mi-am pregătit pachetul de șervețele.💔
Cu fiecare capitol parcurs, am cunoscut mai bine personajele, m-am atașat mai mult de ele și mi-am dat seama că această carte o să mă termine înainte să o termin eu pe ea.❤️🩹
Povestea este scrisă în așa fel încât te absoarbe complet. Nu ai cum să nu te implici cu tot sufletul, să empatizezi cu personajele și să fii alături de ei la orice pas. Am trăit numeroase emoții și pe toate le-am trăit intens, trecând de la plâns la râs într-o clipită.💛
Maksim și pe Julia mi-au câștigat inima. Momentele dintre ei mi-au bucurat sufletul. Fiecare dintre ei a devenit “lumina de la capătul tunelului” pentru celălalt.💛🌻
Cât despre scena aia, Ramona, știi la care ma refer… Nimic nu o poate egala. A fost momentul care m-a cucerit pe deplin.💛💛💛
Povestea lor este apăsătoare, intensă și profund emoționantă. Ne arată că iubirea poate răsări și în cele mai întunecate momente, atâta timp cât avem speranță.❤️🩹

În umbra trecutului este a doua carte din serie și îi are ca protagoniști pe Julia si pe Maksim, fratele geamăn al lui Roman.
Urmărim povestea lor încă de la începuturi și am fost trecută printr-un amalgam de emoții. Am râs, dar am și plâns. Am chicotit ca o copilă de 14 ani și am chițăit la propriu la anumite scene 🥵🥵
Îmi place foarte mult firul narativ al poveștii și plot-twisturile sunt ceva wow. Nu m-am așteptat niciodată la ceea ce s-a întâmplat.
Maksim l-a depășit pe Roman și oficial e preferatul meu.

Mă abțin să nu plâng😩 deși este un mafia romance, este o carte atât de emoționantă și frumoasă, despre vindecare, acceptare, regăsire și iubire. Despre cum binele învinge întotdeauna și despre cum dragostea poate vindeca totul❤️ Nu cred că există suficiente cuvinte pe care să le folosesc ca să recomand această carte. Este MINUNATĂ 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼

Where do I begin with Maks and Julia, well their story is most certainly not an easy one but these two never stop fighting until the get the life the always dreamed of. I will say please read the TWs as this book does deal with sensitive topics.
Now if you can remember from Shadow’s of Obsession we actually meet Makism and Julia and ever since that moment I knew I needed to know their story and quite the story it was🥺
From the opening chapters my heart was absolutely broke from Julia- her parents or more so her father got tangled up with the wrong people and as a result they paid the price. Julia acted fast and managed to get her sisters to safety but she made the mistake of returning and while things are already on a downward spiral it becomes so much worse, in which now she finds herself in the hands of Makism’s father.
Even while burdened by the mistakes of his past one look at Julia and Makism takes action to protect Julia in every way he can. This book spans over a couple of years and through out the years we see the a relationship starting to form between the pair while also planning the downfall of their enemy, and yes it’s Mak’s father. But of course this must be planned precisely and this leads to Maks and Julia going to Luna for help.
Yes at first Makism keeps Julia at a distance and there’s a valid reason for that but the walls that he constructed around his heart soon start to crumble when it comes to her.
This book was tragically beautiful and these two really fought for their forever.
Thank you so much to the author who provided this e-arc for my honest thoughts and I can’t wait to dive back into this world in the near future because that ending chapter made me ever so excited for the next couple to come🤭

This was so good in the beginning but started to get get redundant and flat. Should have ended at the 70% mark imo. Also the time jumps were confusing, like why did we jump 10 years into the future with no explanation for the gaps. This man also never said I love you after 10 years together…crazy work.

Julia a suferit enorm! Si-a salvat surioarele si si-a vazut parintii ucisi, a fost rapita si a ajuns pe mana unor traficanti de carne vie. Viata ei a fost un cosmar de la o varsta extrem de frageda. Ajunsa in bucati, intr-o tara straina, isi ridica privirea si gaseste doi ochi cenusii, doi ochi care ascund multa suferinta. Soldatul rus, Maksim, a reusit sa ii smulga inima din piept si sa nu i-o mai returneze.
Max, a fost crescut ca o masina de ucis, invatat sa duca la sfarsit treburile murdare ale tatalui sau adoptiv, nu are in plan decat razbunare insa trebuie sa gaseasca momentul potrivit. Julia reuseste sa ii inteteasca focul din piept si, desi a crezut ca nu va mai iubi dupa pierderea Verei, iata ca viata are alte planuri pentru el.
Fratele geaman al lui Roman, fratele cu inima defecta, isi reintregeste viata si familia intr-un mod extrem de satisfacator, doar dupa cei ce merita sa moara, o fac suferind🥰
Mi-a placut mult. Adrenalina de la final a piperat si mai mult cartea. O recomand cu drag🦋🥰♥️

O carte care te face sa treci prin toate emotiile, te enervezi,razi,plangi, te intrebi de ce. Este o carte preferata din acest an. O recomand din toata inima, dar recomand sa fie citit primul volum inainte " In umbra obsesiei".

I loved this book. It was a lot darker than the first book, really delved into the main characters trauma and experiences. Reading Max and Julia’s story was heart breaking and beautiful at the same time.
The plot was great, I loved the found family and genuinely can’t wait to read more of this world!

This book pulled so many emotions from me it was truly such a great story. The love story between Maksim & Julia was beautiful and them both helping each her overcome their past was great. Highly recommend !

I was extremely excited to read this book because I had a feeling I would love it, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. Not at all, not for one second.
The first book, Shadows of obsession, was a 4.5🌟 for me. If you haven’t read it, I recommend reading them in order, although they are interconnected standalones, I feel like the plot is important from the first couple’s POVs as well.
Maksim and Julia were such an amazing and a huge surprise, I cannot stress enough the feeling of heartbreak and love I had for them during this book.
I am super proud of the author for being able to get me hold my breath, cry, laugh and fall in love with this characters; it may sound a bit conceited, but it’s a bit hard for me to feel as many emotions reading a book, and it’s just as hard to make me add a book on my favorites list, but Shadows of the past really overcame any expectations I may have had.
Please get into this book checking the TWs and knowing your limits. There are sensitive topics and trauma the main characters, and not only, went through.
During the first book, I was extremely curious about the side characters. I heard on Romanian BookTok that the second book is so good, but damn, it truly truly is.
As this is Ramona’s second book, I was expecting the writing and storytelling to improve with each story. I can say that the plotting, translation, dealing with sensitivity of the trauma and overall development of the story were handled with care, love and attention to details, this book truly exceeded my expectations.
When I received it I was terrified I would cry because I had a feeling this book is a rollercoaster of emotions, but Ramona promised she will heal my heartbreak until the end of the book, and oh man, did she delivered.
I am recommending this book with not one single holdback and I’ll be here to discuss anytime on why do I recommend and love this book so much.
Now, again, not to put pressure on Ramona, but I can’t wait until we have the next one translated.

“În umbra trecutului” de R. Nimes — o carte imposibil de lăsat din mână și un carusel de emoții. Am menționat faptul că am văzut mult potențial când am citit “În umbra obsesiei”, iar “În umbra trecutului” a venit acum să îmi confirme că am avut dreptate.
Se captează atenția cu ușurință, prin priviri aruncate încă din primele capitole la momentele negre ce își pun amprenta asupra personajelor. Ți se rupe inima pentru ele. Acțiunea are loc pe parcursul a mai mulți ani și mi-a plăcut cum au fost împletite elemente întunecate, momente tandre, scene amuzante sau pline de emoție și răsturnări de situație.
Mi-a plăcut mult de Maksim, având o slăbiciune pentru personajele masculine care, spun ele, nu vor să se atașeze de cineva. E interesant de urmărit cum toate zidurile dispar când apare acel cineva special, deși personajul nostru vrea să reziste tentației. Oricum, este un personaj mai complex de atât, fiindu-ne prezentate traumele sale, cele care-și pun amprenta pe omul care este.
Fascinant mi s-a părut personajul feminin. Nu-i tipica domnișoară la ananghie, chiar dacă se trezește în situația de a fi salvată și, la rândul său, a trecut prin momente traumatizante. Julia are totuși un foc în ea, o putere și-o ambiție ce-o fac remarcabilă. Mi-a plăcut că este implicată în această lume a lor, ajungând să lupte cot la cot cu Maksim.
Relația lor evoluează pe cât de natural se poate, vorbind de doi oameni care poartă cu ei traume și insecurități. O și urmărim de-a lungul unei perioade mai mari de timp, ceea ce mi-a plăcut. Momentele cu ei au fost un strop de frumos într-o lume plină de urât, deși au fost și câteva care mi-au furat niște lacrimi.
Evident, n-am prevazut nici de data asta răsturnările de situație. Simțeam că este ceva la mijloc în anumite cazuri, dar mă așteptam la cu totul altceva. Pur și simplu ador să se întâmple asta când citesc romance.

I inhaled this book.
Few pages in and I was already hooked on the story and that is a good sign for me.
The thing that the FMC was taken away from her normal and usual life and thrown into a real nightmare got me to turn page after page after page.
The fact that she was taken under a shielding wing by one of the bad guys kept me reading for hours.
I loved the slowburn and waited so much for those moments when his cold mask would fell off in front of her.
That over protectiveness that was hidden by Maksim as human compasion for Julia -> got straight to my heart.
She needed a protector in that world and he was there to save her. Two people with trauma that found the light and the love in the darkest place.
A cold tough man with a soft spot: her.
Ramona created two complex characters with repressed emotions, an intense chemistry and a beautiful journey of healing.
It had the perfect mix and ballance of: romance, spice, action, dark mafia world, fight for freedom and love, found family.
A good combination for my taste.
This book goes straight to my top favourite books.

This book was amazing! I loved every single page. It was the perfect mixture of action, drama and deep emotions. Sometimes it hurt to read this story because it was really dark and twisted. I got emotional quiet a lot and I‘m so happy we got a happy end. The writing style is fluent and easy to read. I am so thankful that the author translates her books from romanian to english so that everyone is able to read these masterpieces. I can‘t believe that she is a „new author“ because her books are so fucking good!!
Julia and Maksim suffer a lot and I loved both of them equally. It was wonderful to read how they always protect each other and go through all of this horror together. Their story is nothing for weak nerves! Please be aware that this is a dark mafia romance.
All in all this book was perfect and I can‘t wait to read the next book (hopefully soon?).

Da, am decis! Am un nou autor preferat pe lista! If Ramona writes it, I'm gonna read it!
Cred ca eram pe punctul sa intru intr-un reading slump inainte sa ma apuc de "In umbra trecutului", de aici si inceputul mai greu si cele 5 zile de care am avut nevoie sa termin cartea. Daca e sa fiu realista, cartea am terminat-o in doua zile. In primele 3 am citit extrem de putin, asa ca nu ar trebui luate in considerare.
Odata ce am inaintat cu lectura, am stiut ca nu o mai pot lasa din mana! Am si plans, bineinteles! Am avut multe momente in care simteam ca privirea mi-e incetosata de lacrimi! Am avut momente in care am simtit sa recitesc pagini/paragrafe deoarece nu puteam sa trec peste atat de usor.
Povestea este una grea, cu traume si episoade dure. Deci asigurati-va ca cititi lista de TW. Daca ma intrebati pe mine, avem multe de invatat din aceasta carte: despre empatie, rezilienta, loialitate etc.
Povestea de dragoste dintre Maksim si Julia nu este una usoara. Cei doi sunt nevoiti sa treaca prin prea multe inainte sa se intalneasca! Si desi tocmai aceste intamplari din viata lor ii aduc impreuna, nu am putut sa nu imi doresc ca vietile lor sa fi fost complet diferite. Pentru ca nu au meritat sa treaca prin ce au trecut! Dar ca in realitate, viata este de prea multe ori nedreapta.
Pe scurt, "In umbra trecutului" este o carte care te va trece prin o multitudine de stari. O carte care iti va rupe sufletul in bucati, dar care te va si vindeca. Eu recomand din suflet sa o cititi cu sufletul si mintea deschise si sa patrundeti in acest univers care, desi este unul dur, merita fara doar si poate sa fie descoperit!

Okay but THIS BOOK??? I’m obsessed 😭 The romance was so good and the plot actually delivered. Julia? Total badass. And Maxim?? Literally one of the biggest green flags in fiction, no debate. 🥵🥵🥵

După ce am citit ”În umbra obsesiei”, primul volum din acestă serie, am știut că voi citi toate cărțile Ramonei. Iar aceasta doar mi-a confirmat, dacă era necesar, talentul ei. Avem o poveste care m-a ținut cu sufletul la gură de la început, care mi-a spulberat inima de nenumărate ori, doar ca mi-o pună la loc. Cele mai multe scene au fost atât de încărcate emotional, că citeam cu lacrimi în ochi și mă înfioram la suferințele și durerile prin care treceau personajele.
Maksim și Julia vor rămâne întotdeauna în sufletul meu. El, acest munte de om, care nici nu clipește când ia viața cuiva care o merită, dar cu inima distrusă, în toate sensurile. Ea, adolescenta delicată, care iubește fluturii și floarea soarelui, dar care se transformă într-o femeie a cărei armă preferată e mitraliera. Iar felul în care cei doi se descoperă și își salvează sufletele reciproc m-a topit de tot.
O recomand iubitorilor de romance, și celor care își doresc să descopere genul dark romance. Scenele violente, grafice și spice, deși prezente, au fost abordate foarte bine, în cantități moderate, dar totuși citiți atenționările de la începutul cărții, pentru siguranță.
M-am atașat atât de mult de majoritatea personajelor, că îmi doresc să citesc povestea tuturor și sper că Ramona le va dedica câte o carte cel puțin la fel de inspirată ca și primele două.

Doamne ce stil are autoare de a scrie. Ador ador adooor. Personajele mi-au ajuns la inima din primele capitole si am devorat cartea asta imediat. Muuuuult mai buna decat primul volum.A început cu actiune din prima, Julia răpită de mafioții care trebuiau sa încaseze o datorie de la tatăl ei, asta după ce casa ei a ars în flăcări cu părinții ei. Maksim adoptat de capul mafiei și pregătind răzbunarea pentru el , vrând sa închidă orice afacere deschisa de el, pana apare Julia și indragostidu-se nebunește de ea. Câta acțiune, cata iubire, cât devotament, răzbunare la superlativ !!!! 10/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Nu sunt suficiente doar 5 stele pt tot ce mi-a produs în suflet, aceasta carte!
Am adorat vol 1..insa acest volum m-a făcut sa trec prin toate stările, sa le simt..exact cum face o carte bună!

There are not enough stars in the sky for this book! It's the most beautiful love story. It's dark, and it will break you, but it will put you back together. this is not a read you want to miss out on! I can't wait for the next instalment ❤️

Mi-a plăcut enorm! Am stat cu sufletul la gură în anumite momente. E ce trebuie. Dark romance dar cu scene care iți ating inima. Mi-a plăcut când îl lua de mână și dormeau așa. Când i-a spus că inima lui nu are probleme e doar incompletă. Ziua de naștere cu floarea soarelui si fluturi. Mi-a plăcut și Julia și Maksim. Aștept cât mai multe cărți de ale tale. Romania și booktok-ul românesc are nevoie de tine. Se vede mult progresul tău in a doua carte. Te pup și te îmbrățișez! Mult succes în continuare!
