Darby Briar is an American author who loves writing stories about men with broken souls and women who don’t know their own strength. She’s a lover of fiction whether it be a movie or book, but prefers stories with some romance, and ones that include a happy ending. She grew up in Utah and still lives in the northern part of the state. She’s married and her and her husband have three adorable kids.
I don’t even know where to begin. This was a LONG book with A LOT that went on in this story. Even though this is the second book in the Harbinger’s of Chaos world, you might want to read this one first because it happens before book one and explains things/people in a way that would make you understand book one better. Everything is connected for sure. Lily and Finn’s (Goose) story is one that spans over 10 years. There are many time jumps. These two are the epitome of epic soulmates. They had a connection over 10 years ago and before he went to the army he promised to come back for her. He never did though and she thought he was dead until she saw him 5 years later. She was devastated and angry, rightfully so. But things aren’t always what they seem. Five years after that, she is tasked with infiltrating his mc club to spy for another mc club. And things take off from there.
Darby is very good at metaphors and expressing emotions and feelings through her words and characters. There is agony, heartache, anger, sadness, jealousy and so much more. And you feel every one of them. You feel like you are in this story alongside them. This was not just a love story, it was profound, and there are intense scenes and suspense and you feel on the edge of your seat sometimes. I’ve enjoyed both books in this series and look forward to more.
Ok. Now, for the audiobook review.....y'all. Joe Arden & Heather Firth were PHENOMENAL!!! They absolutely paired beautiful to deliver a jaw dropping performance, bringing us Lily & Finn. Joe Arden's stellar performance of Bodie was a bonus!!! But, seriously, this audiobook was performed masterfully by two amazing talents, and they brought the emotions(Joe Arden had me in literal tears! 🥺), the struggles, the banter, the undeniable spicy chemistry. I couldn't get enough!!!! Definitely grab this one up!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book. This book. THIS BOOK. Y'all. I cannot begin to tell you the amount of amazing feels I felt with this book. Darby Briar is absolutely talented and creates the best characters. I fell hard and fast for Lily & Finn. These two have a past, it's intense, it's traumatic, it's absolutely delicious. Their story is filled with pain, heartache, passion, and secrets. Their story is filled with beautiful moments that will make you swoon, but also filled with soul crushing pain that will leave you with heartache right along with Lily & Finn. But, in Darby Briar fashion, she keeps us captivated, gives us all the best parts, and delivers and ending that will make the pain, the tears, the smiles absolutely worth it.
If exotic dancers, MC romance, second chances and broken pasts are your vibe, you need this one in your life. I cannot wait to hear this story in audio when it releases!
Lost Lyrebird by Darby Briar is the second book in The Harbingers of Chaos series. If you know and follow Darby you will know that this book is basically book one according to the timeline, Lost Lyrebird story follows Lily and Finn for over 10 years and then Burning Ember follows right after this timeline. I had the opportunity to read this book at first as a beta draft and then now as an ARC and I can't be more grateful, to witness and be a part of the creative progress and amazing writing of Darby. The story is a dark motorcycle club romance, angsty, gritty, funny at certain pointsBodie IYKIK), with an absolutely amazing plot, world building and character development. From a military tragic accident, with an unexpected amnesia, Finn's and Lily's story develops and becomes intricate and dramatic. Lily has a very tragic background but she has become an amazing woman and absolute firecracker! I loved how Darby has put a spotlight on her character, profession and her strong personality. The scenes where she dances have so much depth, meaning and build for her character. Goose(Finn) is the most amazing man that anyone could ask for in a book or in real life. The chemistry between Finn and Lily is scorching hot and I loved the second chance romance, even with his broken memories, Finn's character is absolutely possessive over his Little Bird, and all the feathers and crumbs that come back to him. And I'd love to tell you more but I really want you to explore, and fall in love with them by yourself. I can't recommend this story enough, and can't wait for the next ones! Audiobook: a duet masterpiece performance by Heather Firth and Joe Arden with an amazing range and variations of their voices and performances for each of the characters and side characters. I can't imagine someone better for Lily's voice than Heather, bringing that breathy, sexy and sensual performance. Joe broke me with Finn's character, when he is suffering, that was so powerful and raw. Thank you Blue Nose Audio for this masterpiece that belongs in the Hall of Fame!
There's something so captivating about this world and how Darby writes it. For a book so long, I feel like I'm flying through it only to see I've read so little but it's because I'm locked in and there's such a complex world I'm reading about.
Every character and every storyline is so complex. There is a lot going on. Some things get a little lost in translation for me but at the end of the day, it's a good story.
I really loved the plot for this story. I loved seeing things through Lily's POV since I loved her character in the first book. I did forget a lot that happened in that book but this was basically a prelude to that so it didn't totally matter. I do remember always loving Griz but I don't remember Bodie standing out to me before. I absolutely LOVED Bodie in this. Like...please tell me his story is next because yeah...I need that asap.
There is way too much for me to breakdown because literally SO much happens. I'll try to be very brief with my thoughts: I genuinely enjoyed this. I really enjoy the setting, the main plot, the side storylines, the characters, the romance, the drama, and just the writing as a whole. I do feel that this was very long and some things could have been left out because I did want to skim at times. I think inner monologues started getting a tad repetitive. REGARDLESS. I really enjoy these books.
Thank you so much to Darby Briar and Greys Promo for the e-arc copy!!
Was so excited to read this one post-Burning Ember!! I love Lily and Goose and the way their love persisted after EVERYTHING life threw at them was so emotional. I will say, this book had no business being 700 PAGES LONG. There was a lot of rising action around some of the motorcycle club tension and these big plans that the characters were putting into motion and I felt like some of those plot points ended up feeling anti-climactic. I really liked this one and will 100% be continuing the series, but so far, book 1 still has my heart!
Lost Lyrebird is a deeply emotional, slow-burning second-chance romance that spans over a decade. Darby Briar pulls readers into the raw, gritty world of Lily (Lil' Bird) and Finn (Goose), two characters tied together by a love that never quite let go. The storytelling moves between past and present, slowly revealing a history full of trauma, loss, and undeniable connection. Lily’s strength is unforgettable, and Finn’s battle with memory loss adds a layer of heartbreak that hits hard. Their chemistry is intense, their pain palpable, and their journey messy but worth it. The writing is poetic and emotionally charged. “How do you let go of someone who’s woven into the fabric of your soul?” perfectly captures the story’s heart. Yes, the book is long, over 700 pages but the emotional payoff makes it worthwhile. This isn’t just another MC romance, it’s a journey of healing, identity, and finding your way back to something you thought was lost forever. If you like complex characters, MC worlds, and stories that don’t shy away from pain or passion, Lost Lyrebird delivers. It lingers long after the final page.
At over 700 pages, Lost Lyrebird could have felt like a marathon—but it never did. The story moved with such energy and emotion that I found myself completely absorbed in Finn and Lily’s tumultuous ride back to each other. Both characters came from rough, gritty lives, and watching them navigate their pain while rediscovering their bond was powerful and heartfelt.
This was actually my first motorcycle club book, and it set the bar high. I instantly went out and picked up Burning Ember (which was released first but actually takes place after Lost Lyrebird). Honestly, I’m glad I read Lost Lyrebird first, because it gave me such a strong foundation for the club dynamics and the characters’ backstories.
Gritty, emotional, and full of heart—this book surprised me in the best ways, and it left me excited to dive deeper into this world.
*ARC REVIEW* This series gives Sons of Anarchy and I love it. Hot biker MMC with a savior complex & traumatic past is confronted with the past but she's all grown up. Awesome story...BUT, this book was wayyy too long. I understand this one technically happened before book 1, I think, so there's a lot of backstory but it felt dragged out in many parts. This book seemed very personal for the author and you can tell by the care and detail she used, it just felt like it should've been split into 2.
Omg I don’t know where to start. I guess first, Bodie is my absolute favorite haha, he is definitely the clown but knows when to be serious. But then you have Finn, and good lord is this man melt worthy! She definitely has her hands full with him. But man did she make me mad for not just telling him who she was. But in the end, it had to happen the way it did. Absolutely love this!!
I loved this book. The story was beautiful and unforgettable. The characters' development was so detailed, and deep, that I was completely drawn into the story, and I couldn't stop reading. The main characters were complex and so well written, and the connection between them - so powerful. There were also several amazing supporting characters, that also got unique and well developed personalities.
The writing is exceptional. Finn's health issues are written with great care. Everything in the story is used to show even further the depth of the connection between him and Lily. This was a fantastic book, and I can't wait to hear it in audio.
*Audiobook Review* Wow! What a ride. I had listened to Burning Embers. That's where we were first introduced to Lily and Finn. I really wanted their story. Darby didn’t disappoint. My heart broke for Finn (Goose). He has been through so much. All I wanted was him to be happy. I want to be Lily when I grow up. She is a bad a**!! I think if I hadn't listened to Burning Embers, I'd do this one first. I think it would pull the series together nicely. Ok, now I need Bodie's book!
Performed in duet by Heather Firth & Joe Arden. 10/5 stars!!
Where do I begin with describing this book. I loved Burning Ember and the snippets of Lily and Goose, so I was very excited when I learned we were getting their story. Boy oh boy were they a rollercoaster. Lily and Goose's story spans 10 years, with a lot of ups and downs and an emotional love story.
Blurb: Finn, aka Goose, is the road captain for the Harbingers of Chaos MC and a military veteran. While in the military, he suffered a serious head injury causing memory issues and a debilitating pain when memories arise. All he knows is that there is a woman of his past he wishes to find and remember.
Lily believes she lost the love of her life six years ago when he went to war. She never expects to see him again, let alone in an MC. After a life of hardships, she's turned to dance to escape her demons. She is sent into the pit of the HoC to gather information of business dealings. All she wants is to get what she needs and get out without falling back into Finn's orbit.
However the more Lily is around him, the more she remembers their past and why she loved him so. As for Finn, he begins to have more flashes of memories arise of the girl in his past as he spends time with Lily. Years have passed and they are different people now. But are they really different? Or are they still the same people that found love and solace in one another all those years ago?
Review: This book, while a bit longer than I think it needed to be, perfectly encapsulated an emotional story between two people just trying to survive. The fact that this story flashes between moments of the past and the present but keeps the plot together is perfect. Sometimes it could get confusing with all the characters and plot points but it all comes together in the end.
Darby has a talent for conveying more emotion in her writing than I've seen in a lot of books. You truly feel for these characters and all they endure and their emotions. You feel a connection to them and just want for them to be happy. I love these characters and their stories so much.
As I said this book was very long, just over 700 pages to be exact, so that was a bit much. It took a bit of time to get into this book in the beginning, but them it picked up fast. I became enamored with the characters and plot line that I didn't want to stop reading.
I really enjoyed this book and I look forward to reading the continuing books in the series.
Lost Lyrebird is a dark MC romance full of passion, secrets, debauchery, and redemption! Darby Briar has a natural talent for storytelling! She created an intricate world that is attention grabbing with unique characters that you can’t help but fall for. This is a long one, but well worth the ride it takes you on. The book focuses on the love story between Finn aka “Goose” and Lily aka “Little Bird.” These two are something else and will make you obsessed! I loved the way Lily rose from the ashes with determination, cunning attitude, effortless beauty, and grace. She is relatable and knows how to command a room bringing men to their feet. Then there’s Finn, a man that literally went through hell and back with his military career. Despite all he’s been through and the scattered memories he continues to deal with he remains unstoppable! Together, Finn and Lily go through a lot of trials and tribulations. Even though their connection appears severed at first due to forgotten memories and secrets these two were meant to be! They were each other’s missing puzzle piece. Once these two remember why they never stopped loving each other their connection reignites! The passion and spice between Lily and Finn is toe grippingly good and down right sinful in the best way! Needless to say, this is a ride you will never forget and will live rent free in your head!
For the audiobook: Joe Arden and Heather Firth did an outstanding performance with this story. The raw emotion, pain, and intensity these two brought to life was palpable and heart wrenchingly beautiful! I experienced all the emotions under the sun and wouldn’t have had it any other way! I will definitely listen to this one several more times! Thank you Blue Nose Audio for this ALC opportunity!
Darby, you truly blew my mind with this particular book. I did a little bit of crying and I could have finished this beautiful book days ago, but I had to make some beautiful edits that I’m thinking you will absolutely love and appreciate once I post them. I absolutely love love love this beautiful book from start to finish. I absolutely love seeing all the beautiful familiar people.
I’ve been on this beautiful journey with you since having the honor and the privilege of having the ALC of A Christmas with Chaos back in December. I absolutely loved seeing some beautiful familiar faces and seeing new faces. This beautiful book will have a special place in my heart because you Darby talked about me in the Acknowledgments and nobody has ever done that for me. I’m so so proud of your accomplishments and I will always be your biggest cheerleader.
I’m so so glad I can call you my friend. This book has some difficult situations that destroyed my heart, made me cry my eyes out, made me laugh hysterically, made me giddy beyond belief and mended my heart after everything was said and done. Lily’s and Goose’s story is not for the faint of heart. They’ve gone through so much that it utterly destroyed my poor bleeding heart. I just want to say that I absolutely fell more in love with Bodie in this book more than the rest of the series because of the dynamic between himself and Lily.
If you absolutely love a book about finding your twin flame again, this book is for you. I cannot wait to see what the future brings to you Darby because I just know it’s all up for you. I’m so so glad I’ve been on this beautiful journey with you and know that I will always be your biggest cheerleader. I just want to say that I’m pretty sure this is hands-down my favorite book in the series and I love the fact that this book comes full circle.
Once in a while, a book makes you feel deeply, relentlessly, and in ways that linger long after the last page. Lost Lyrebird was one of those books for me. I can say, without hesitation, that it made me feel every emotion: joy, heartbreak, anger, grief, and hope. The author, Darby Briar doesn’t just tell you what the characters are going through, you live it with them. I loved Lily and Finn, their chemistry and pull to one another was electric and undeniable! This is not just a story I read. It’s a story I felt and it’s one I’ll carry with me forever. Lost Lyrebird will stay close to my heart always, right beside Burning Ember. Buckle up readers because you’re in for one hell of a ride!!
Thank you, Darby. It was so much fun and a pleasure to be part of the Lost Lyrebird journey! 🪶💕
Every so often, a story comes along that isn’t simply read—it’s experienced, felt, and carried long after the final page. Lost Lyrebird by Darby Briar is one of those stories. Both heartbreaking and hopeful, this second‑chance romance immerses you in a whirlwind of raw emotion, magnetic chemistry, and unforgettable characters. It’s not the kind of love story you coast through—it’s one that demands every beat of your heart.
At its core, this is Finn and Lily’s journey, forged in tragedy and complicated by memory loss, grief, and resilience. Briar gives Lily’s character a fierce, radiant presence—her strength, her passion, and especially her dance sequences feel purposeful and deeply moving. Finn—“Goose”—is a hero both tender and unyielding, fiercely protective yet achingly vulnerable as his memories resurface. Together, their connection burns with intensity, balancing fire with fragility in a way that feels entirely authentic.
The audiobook brings another layer of depth, brought to life through a duet narration by Heather Firth and Joe Arden. Heather captures Lily’s sensuality and strength with ease, while Joe delivers an unforgettable portrayal of Finn—raw, powerful, and emotionally charged. Their performances don’t just voice the characters; they embody them, making the listening experience deeply immersive and impossible to forget.
This was actually a 3.5 for me. I loved Lily and Goose's story. Loved seeing the other characters. Lily has live through it and come out so much stronger on the other side. Goose is dealing with the consequences of war and suffers from some amnesia. He is so vulnerable and so likeable in how he handles things. Loved it! The down fall for me was the story moved at a slow pace and felt like I was reading the same thoughts/conversations over and over. I found myself skimming through certain parts because of this.

Some books you just read it and some you experience, you live alongside the characters and you deeply feel everything they are going through. This book is the second one in the Harbingers of Chaos Mc series but it takes place before Burning Ember. You see Lily and Finn aka Goose in Burning Ember but they seemed to be just the fun perfect couple, nothing more, so imagine my surprise and utter shock with their DEEPLY tragic, sad, frustrating beautiful story. This book packs a punch in the emotional side and it’s a story that takes place in the span of 10 years, it’s a slow burn second chance with a long PAINFUL road ahead them. So Lily and Goose met when she was 17 years old and he took her out of a horrible and tragic situation. He was at the time in the military so his age and the gap between them was never mentioned besides the fact that he was older than her and tried his best to keep her in arm’s length because he was an honorable great man and would never ever take advantage of her. But feelings developed regardless of the circumstances. They were completely in love. But it came the time when he needed to go back overseas and he left with the promise of coming back to her, the thing is …. He never came back….. she was left alone to fend for herself in a place she was hiding from her horrible “situation” without any money and anyone to help. She waited for him but after a while she thought he was dead. So her life takes a dive for the worst scenario ever and 5 years past till she casually and coincidentally sees him in the MC club that she now lives. It was the shock of her life to see he was alive and there in front of her but it was a bigger shock to see he didn’t pay her any attention. To say she was devastated is an understatement, more time passes and she is sent to another MC, his MC as a spy because things are getting heated. She gets a job as an exotic dancer and the story goes from there. OMG THE PAIN IN THIS BOOK IS REAL ! You feel deep in your bones, the AGONY, the ANGST, the YEARNING, the SLOW BURN, every single emotion, I was ANGRY, FRUSTRATED, SAD and DESPERATE. The chemistry between her and Goose is instant and explosive. The thing is Goose didn’t abandon her like she though, it’s worst because he forgot her….. OMG I was dying in here, cried many times, Goose is so sad and broke, he is SUCH A GOOD man with a beautiful soul but he is in pain. The pain he is feeling, the addiction, the depression, the suicidal thoughts. 😭😭😭 and he was always trying to do the right thing. Omg what a rollercoaster of emotions….. Lily is such a baddie, everything she went through made her strong and capable. She even anger me at times because I was like : “Damn you woman, can’t you see his struggles and his pain? Can’t you see he never abandoned you?” UGH ! The sweet best revenge EVER against her enemy, the way she planned everything and how she saved the club was just THE BEST. So yes I went into this book expecting a normal MC romance and was left speechless when I was hit with this tsunami of emotions. If you can please listen to the audiobook, it’s a duet narration and it is fantastic.
I had a feeling that Lost Lyrebird would find me similarly as Burning Ember did: obsessed with a world I’m utterly clueless about. I’m not typically a motorcycle club reader by habit. Yet, Darby’s Harbingers of Chaos series landed in my lap… and now I feel like I’m folded into the HOCs.
Lost Lyrebird is a 10 year timeline of a love story that I cannot summarize without writing an entire story within this review, so I will refrain. I do want to touch on the core of this story which is both timeless and universal to the romance genre: Time is precious. Integrity means everything. Heartache and healing go hand in hand. Recovery is an essential part of growth.
What I specifically enjoyed about this story was its length. It’s 685 pages. No small feat of writing(or reading) by any means. Darby is a thorough writer with a precise vision. When I got to the last chapter, I felt like I had lived life alongside Lily and Finn (aka “Goose”). It’s also worth noting that as a non-motorcycle club aficionado, Darby’s attention to large and small details while truly describing the layout of intricate scenes involving club business was invaluable.
Lily and Finn are both flawed characters with tremendous baggage, and the story is a testament to what happens when your experiences dictate your life…and then you find the catalyst for change. Both characters have motivations to keep their hearts guarded from each other — and Finn’s amnesia arc is critical to this dance.
Additionally, there are multiple secondary characters who feel far from it; I found myself invested in Deeds (from a rival motorcycle club), Bodie (Finn’s true ride-or-die) and Raven (the woman who took Lily under her wing). All of these characters are vital to the story and to the development of Lily and Goose as individuals and as an item.
I felt much like Goose did throughout the story. I was gathering feathers and putting together the timeline of memories right along with him. My heart admired Lily’s grit and endurance, as well as her ability to put herself into many different boxes in order to fulfill her journey.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t touch upon the sensuality of Lily: she is bold in her choices as a sexual woman and as a dancer. Her body is her art and her way of expressing herself to Goose in a way that was mesmerizing, and hot as hell.
The spice in this book is built on a foundation of tension, temptation, and teasing that had my heart racing.
I’m obsessed with this series! I devoured both book in this series! You learn so much more info and backstory in this book. The chemistry between the characters is amazing. It’s filled with banter and spice and everything in between. I love this MC series and can’t wait for more! Highly recommend this series!

Perfect for fans of Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan and Before We Were Strangers by Renée Carlino, Lost Lyrebird delivers a powerful and raw second-chance romance and twin flames who finally come together romance.
A gripping, emotionally intense tale about two people torn apart by life but bound forever by a fierce, unforgettable love – don’t expect to simply read a few chapters and go to bed. This is an up-all-night, soul-scorching ride.
Lost lyrebird follows the stories of Finn (Goose) and Lily and spans a decade. Goose is former military and suffered trauma that involved a head injury. As a result, he has memory issues and sporadic pain that can be debilitating. Lily is a woman of his past that he lost touch with when he joined the service. Now, he is desperate to find her. The problem is, there are so many holes in his memory, it makes it very difficult. It’s like he has constant puzzle pieces floating in his mind trying to connect. Finn vowed to come back for her after army service and never did. As a result, Lily suffered many hardships over the years. She is sent to Finn’s motorcycle club to gather information and must put her feelings aside to get her job done. However, the longer she is around him, the more she remembers of their time together and why she fell in love with him in the first place. Years have gone by and they are both different people. Are they too different to find their way back to one another? Or will they let circumstances beyond their control steal their happiness forever? I had the honor of beta reading and now posting a review of this wonderful story. In all honesty, I have been agonizing over the words to include in this review. This story touched my heart in many different ways and I feel like no matter how I describe it, my words will be inadequate of it’s depth. As someone who has been around the military her whole life, I’m familiar with PTSD and other traumas that can result from combat. Also, my mother, who was chronically ill, developed dementia prior to her passing. It was a daily struggle for her and witnessing pieces of her life slip from her mind and then her trying to make sense of it all was very difficult. As their story unfolded and I read the devotion that Lily and Finn had for one another, I began to feel a range of emotions. At its conclusion, I was emotionally distraught, in a good way. I am grateful to have experienced this story, and I know it will be with me for the rest of my life. Last, but definitely not least, the spice level is off the charts! There were several scenes I had to re-read for research purposes, of course. Finn also has a very descriptive vocabulary. While technically the second in a series, it can be read as a standalone. I do not recommend this though. The first story, Burning Ember, is phenomenal. It also introduces several characters that are included in Lost Lyrebird. I HIGHLY recommend this novel for mature audiences only due to sexual content, violence, abuse, mental health disorders, and a few others. For a list of potential triggers, please see the author’s website.
This is a second chance MC romance with a slow burn and lots of surprises. I received an advanced reader copy of this book from Greys Promotions and the author for my honest opinion. All thoughts are my own. Lily had a rough early life and meeting a heroic “GI Joe” like Finn was a real life fairytale that she never thought could happen to her until everything comes crashing down. Finn/Goose may have physically returns from war but mentally his life has flipped on a dime. Between PTSD and memory loss his life is forever changed, but he knows he’s looking for someone, he just can’t remember who. This book is a second chance for these two with a bit of revenge thrown in. There are a lot of twists and turns going on within the MC universe but the heat between Lily and Goose is hard to deny, even though they tried. It is certainly a super steamy book with lots of dirty talk interspersed with plenty of bedroom scenes (although they mostly were out of the bedroom, wink, wink) but there is a mix of humor (yes I’m talking about you Bodie) and intrigue as well. Technically Lily and Goose’s story is book two in the HOC MC series but chronologically it’s book one. Having said that, Lily is not who I thought she was based of her presence in book two so I think you can enjoy it without having read the other book, although I do recommend that one too. In this book Lily seems much more hardcore and stronger while she was (in my opinion ) almost ditsy-like in the other so I was really surprised by her fortitude. There is a lot of back and forth time wise going on which was a bit hard at first to follow, but my biggest gripe is the fact that while not technically together at the time Lily made some choices that seemed counterproductive to forging a relationship with Goose (without going into too much detail some of them made me really angry with her), although the surprise twist did explain a bit why she does what she does. Still a good MC book with hopefully more HOC stories to come ( fingers crossed that it’s about Edge). 4 stars
*M/F *Contemporary *Dual-1st-PoV *MC Romance *Dark Elements *Second Chance *Stripper FMC *Amnesiac MMC *Tragic Pasts *Angsty *Slow Burn *Standalone Past and present twisted together 😮 Ok so let me start with saying I loved the enjoyed the storyline for this book, two lovers who’ve been pulled apart by circumstances far beyond their control and somehow find each other again but don’t recognise each other and fate plays some cruel tricks on them only for love to win out in the end 😍 the characters were compelling and you really wanted their happy ending for them! Lil is so strong to have gone through what she has and she’s allowed it to turn her into a firecracker who will do what it takes to keep those she holds dear safe, on the other hand it’s made her walls nigh on impenetrable and a little hard hearted! She’s definitely a firecracker of an FMC 😅 Goose is troubled to say the least, suffering amnesia from his military experience, which I thought was dealt with sensitively, and he’s honestly not dealing with it in the best way 😣 he’s trying to piece his life back together and locate his little hummingbird! He’s a sweet sensitive soul who protects the innocent and those who can’t do it for themselves - he’s a heart of gold! He’s also prowly, possessive and pure sez on legs for our girl 🔥 I just honestly struggled with the overly slow pace of this, I feel elements could have been cut that didn’t really add to the story because they felt repetitive and referred to a lot already (I.e scenes from Goose coming back to his dads place) I found myself skipping bits to see where the drama was and if these guys would actually work it out. This is a personal thing so others may well enjoy and like I said the story is definitely angsty and gripping 🙂
Did I know that this book was as long as it was? No. Did I care? Also No. This book hooked me from page one and then continued to take me on one hell of an emotional ride.
I saw another review that said they thought that people should read this one first before reading Burning Ember, which is actually book 1 in this series. I would wholeheartedly agree with that. Lost Lyrebird gives us so much more in terms of who all of these characters are. That being said, This can be read as a complete standalone.
This book encompasses 10 years' worth of life for our MCs Lilly and Finn( Goose) and those 10 years are full of trauma, pain heartbreak and eventually a rebirth. The symbolism that is woven throughout the novel is beautifully crafted. The description of the HOC's "coat of arms" (I cannot remember the correct term) is full of so much meaning and the way that she takes her time to give her readers the chance to see how all of those symbols come together. The use of color and its representation was excellent. Language is intentional, and it is clear that Darby made sure to use the correct words to convey her message.
I loved everything about Lilly and Finn; there was not a single moment that I was not rooting for them or understanding their actions when the choices they were making caused pain to the other.
While we do get out HEA, it does not come easy or without a lot of darkness. Lost Lyrebird contains heavy topics and you definitely should read the trigger warnings before starting, but I promise you it will be worth every minute.
I cannot wait to see what comes next for the HOCs, I am hoping we get a Dozer and Beth, but I will take anyone!
Thank you Darby Briar and Grey's PR for the ARC. This is my Honest review .
'Her heart heavy her wings broken. It was no wonder she never learned to fly'
This is the second book in the harbingers of chaos book and Darby really knows how to write a powerful story! She made me feel happy, angry, sad , frustration as well as making me laugh and cry both happy and sad tears. The description of everything was so well written that i felt like i was there and the dance routines were so amazing! I really love this series and i never want to stop reading because i never want to leave these characters or this world!!
Lilly & Finn story is heartbreakingly beautiful. Their love for each other is so intense and just everything that everyone wants. Finn will stop at nothing to find his Lil Bird and even though Lilly tried to resist she just couldn't stop her feeling for Finn.
Finn saves Lilly years ago and then leaves for a deployment and is involved in an accident that then leads to lose of memory. Lilly then returns to Finns life years later when she applies to be a dancer at his club.
I listened to the audiobook for this narrated by Heather Firth & Joe Arden.
When I say this performance was Top Tier believe me the amount of different voices they both had to do each one was so seamless and different that you knew exactly which character it really showcases just how talented these two are.
Heather Firth was really perfect for Lilly bringing both a sensual and powerful voice to her performance. I really felt that Heather became Lilly I felt so connected to all the emotions Lilly was going through.
Joe Arden as Finn was just another example of the talent he holds the way I could feel the intense pain that Finn was experiencing with his headaches was wow really just wow!!
I know every time I listen to a book with this two the performance is going to be so outstanding!
ALC REVIEW -BNA Duet Narration by Heather Firth and Joe Arden 20 hours 34 mins long Harbingers of Chaos Book 2
*Slow Burn * Second Chance * MC * X Military *
Lost Lyrebird was a captivating, gritty, and heartfelt story! Although this is book 2, it takes place 10 years before the events of book 1. I would have loved to have read Lost Lyrebird first, with all the backstory on the club, its members, and the reasons for its differences with other MCs, etc. It put a lot into perspective for me. There was no doubt that Lily "Lil Bird" and Finn "Goose" were meant to be. Finn broke my heart at times when he would have glimpses of his past, but was unable to see his memories fully. Lily was on a mission to spy on the Harbingers, and, unsure of what really happened years ago. It was a journey of discovery, doubt, growth, and going after what your heart desires. The years of sadness, anger, and heartache had worn both Lily and Finn down, and when they united, it was so worth the wait. Although parts were heavy with emotion, there were still plenty of fun and flirty times among the cast of characters. I can't wait to see what's to come for the Harbingers of Chaos!
Duet narration by Heather Firth and Joe Arden was amazing! The range of voices they performed, especially Joe doing all the voices for the club members, made this even more of an exceptional listening experience. Their voices mesh well together, having a way of making the story feel so real.
Lost Lyrebird by Darby Briar was everything I didn’t know I needed and more. Yes, it’s a thick book, but every page felt intentional and layered with detail that made the story come alive.
I was completely swept up in Finn (aka Goose) and Lily’s journey. The angst, the heartbreak, the ache it’s all so consuming. Darby captures what it feels like to be torn apart by love, loss, and time, and then slowly piecing together the truth of what really happened. The emotional weight of that hit me so hard.
Finn’s struggles were written with such care and realism, making me root for him every step of the way. And Lily’s passion and strength leapt off the page, especially in the way her art and movement were described so vividly I could picture it all.
On top of the romance, the threads of suspense and danger added such intensity, keeping me turning the pages long after I should have gone to sleep.
What really stood out to me was the depth of detail. The characters’ pain, resilience, and love felt raw and real. Darby clearly poured so much heart into this book, and it shows it’s not just a romance, it’s a story about survival, healing, and finding your way back to the person you’re meant for.
This was a five-star read for me without question. I loved it all, and I know it’s going to stay with me for a long time.

Four chapters in and my heart was already hurting . This story had me in a chokehold. The plot and characters had my heart in their palms from the first chapter.
This book broke my heart . The emotional rollercoaster that is this 10 year span reconnecting was heart shattering.
Fin 😭 the way I cried for him throughout the book, he was lost and searching. The end of part one had me completely in tears . His depression and addiction story line was written so raw and emotional.
Lily god I just wanted to hug her . The things she went through young and as an adult were beyond what anyone should have to endure. Add on thinking the person that made her feel safe just left her . Heart breaking.
Darbys writing is poetic and beautiful. She captures the deep emotions and makes us as readers feel every single emotion possible.
Brodie 🤣 the one constant side character that lightened the whole book with his banter and attitude. I’m begging for his book next please!!!!!
🎙️Joe and Heather delivered an excellent performance. They captured the intense emotions, and blended together perfectly.
Lost Lyrebird is a dark motorcycle club romance novel that shocked me to my core. I was in an accident 6 years back that disabled me, and causes excruciating migraines. I started reading this during one of those episodes and I’ve never related so much to a character. Finn has migraines and it’s so hard to feel worthy of love when you can’t fully participate in your own life. I have never been more represented in a story. This story follows two lovers, brought together by tragedy and separated by tragedy. She thought he died and he didn’t even remember her because of his accident. Years pass, she learned he lived and assumed he ditched her and this story starts where she decides to double cross him to get revenge. The story spans 10 years as they claw their way back to each other in the most beautiful way possible.
Listen. This story is heavy. The chemistry between these two characters is intense. They LOVE love each other. Finn and Lily are the real deal. I personally love a second chance romance. I love when there’s that layer of “mine” already installed into the story. Finn knew she was his before he ever even knew she was his. How special is that? Lily is incredible. She’s the whole package; she’s beautiful, strong, feminine, brave, and more. I seriously cannot recommend this story more.
