I liked this less than I liked the first volume but I thought it was still good.
my issue with this right now is in this volume the female lead comes off as kind of naive and seems like an air head at times. in the first volume it made sense for her to think her fiance loved the princess but in this volume while he is being weird he is making multiple very bold statements to her and she just acts to stupid to understand. I mean he already explained that one of the situations she thought she was a leftover in was actually just a misunderstanding so why wouldn't she wonder if there were more things she took wrong.
IDK it felt weird. volume 1 felt like she was empowered by finally choosing herself but it's different now. maybe it's just too late for him. I might be fine with that ending. I said it in my previous review but after years of neglect idk if I want them to end up together
i love princess caroline and his friends so much. i also love her friends, like wanting the best for her and thinking he is trash. i wonder how this story will continue since she still thinks hes in love with caroline and her wanting to study abroad. i feel bad for him, but also it is his fault for everything sooo.
While I am still enjoying this series, I found the gag of Nicole being completely oblivious to Keios’s feelings to become a little stale in this volume. While he absolutely deserves everything that happened to him in the first volume, it’s clear that he’s really trying in this one. While I still feel a lot more sympathy for Nicole than Keios in this situation, I am hoping for some—any—kind of change in their dynamic to happen soon.
In this volume, Keios is clearly trying his best to make things right and I commend him for that! He spent a lot of time explaining the situation to the classmates he thinks could potentially help him and puts their suggestions to action. We get to see a completely new side to him here, as it becomes clear that he truly is just an incredibly awkward boy when it comes to romance . The flashbacks to his childhood also really helped me understand exactly what kind of person he is. This by no means excuses how he treated Nicole in the past, but it makes it clear that he’s not a bad guy at heart.
So, we watch as he follows the suggestions of the people who know Nicole better than him…to no avail. No matter what, she doesn’t understand the fact that he likes her. And at first, I was completely on her side—he does have a track record for only talking about his female best friend, after all. But as time goes on and he switches up his tactics, her not understanding his feelings even a little bit started becoming a little strange. I mean, he basically hugged her and yelled “she’s mine, stay away!!” to another man in front of a room full of people, and she still didn’t understand he has feelings for her.
Putting aside my mild annoyance at Nicole’s obliviousness for a moment, I do really love her character! She’s an avid reader, and it seems like it’s her love of reading that will open up her world. She spends the majority of her time studying the language of a neighbouring country so that she can read their fairy tales, slowly becoming more and more competent. She had already known that women who live in this neighbouring country are permitted to work—something that the women of the kingdom cannot do—but she didn’t know that she was able to become an exchange student and temporarily move there.
So, potentially, she could study over there, find a good job, and stay there forever! Had she not picked up reading and studying the language, her only option would have been becoming a housewife in the kingdom, essentially being forced to mary Keios. Now that she has more options…I wonder what she’ll do.
I think that Nicole may be the type of character that just really doesn’t care about her own romance so long as she has her fairy tales, but there have been a select few panels that have me doubting that. Perhaps Keios just hurt her too deeply that she’s not allowing herself to see his intentions now that he’s trying? Either way, I hope she can have her best happy ending.

Once again I wish this was sooo much longer. I do like where it left off and think that exciting things are about to happen.
Nicole was dreadfully naive in this though.
The first book had clear misunderstandings and miscommunications, in this even when Keios is being more vocal about his intentions than he's ever been (seven pages worth), and declaring them in public no less, Nicole just completely brushes them aside. I would understand questioning Keios and wondering if he was genuine or if he was just trying to repair his reputation, but Nicole doesn't seem to even think about such things and willfully ignores nearly everything he said.
Princess Caroline in the library was absolutely hilarious though. She totally committed to the -wrong- part of her bit, but ya know, at least she committed lol
I believe there was a line that was mistranslated, "They're not wont to rekindle an old flame simply because the man comes begging." It would have made sense if the sentence was "They're not [LIKELY] to rekindle an old flame simply because the man comes begging." .
Nicole is starting to get a bit of a backbone, I just wish she'd finally start to develop one around Keios and tell him what she actually wants. Keios is confessing all of the things to his peers that he should be explaining to Nicole himself, but refuses to do so because he thinks it'll be embarrassing? He just told like 5 people, but telling his fiancee would be too much?
Not only does Lady Nicole still believe that her fiancé, Lord Caius, is in love with the princess but now she wants to study abroad!
Honestly I have nothing but support for Nicole, and it's only to be expected that she would be indifferent to Caius' sudden change in demeanor. He hasn't done much up till now to give any indication that he cares about their relationship, so what's a girl to do?
I do also agree with another review, however, which mentioned that she felt like a bit of an airhead for misunderstanding all of his efforts. Her reactions made complete sense in volume 1, but you would also expect her to pick up on some of his bold moves/statements since then..
All in all, I'm looking forward to continuing the series and seeing how things will develop from here! It seems Caius has his work cut out for him if he expects to change Nicole's mind!
at a certain point she is being willfully ignorant lol. when the man literally declares his feelings for you, there's no other option unless you are a completely clueless idiot. I do like the idea of her continuing to find her independence, especially because I think if they do finally get together it would be so much sweeter if it was because of choice and not obligation/necessity. but I was hoping for just a smidgen of progress here!! the comb was nice, and this man is truly learning how to grovel for sure.

It’s crazy how the miscommunication trope in romance novels is my least favorite trope and yet in manga, I’m just like “teehee, the ML is so dumb lol”. maybe because it’s played for comedic purposes vs. drama. This was another silly fun time, I’m enjoying the fleshing out of our main and supporting cast of characters, as well as the little bits of world building we’re now getting. Here’s hoping Keios can stop being a bit of an idiot and Nicole can be a little less clueless/give him a chance someday lol
I loved the first volume so freaking much, so I am so glad that I could get to the second one so soon!
This book is a perfect example of how overthinking just makes things so much worse. Kaios was so busy trying to not look silly in front of his fiancée, that he ended up ignoring her entirely. I should feel bad for him, but at the same time, I feel like this is a problem entirely of his own making.
I'm looking forward to how this story will progress in the future.
More misunderstandings lol. I do find this funny but it is starting to wear thin. How oblivious is Nicole?! Maybe Keios should try to hug or kiss her but I have a feeling that’s not appropriate in this time frame?
