This Codex army book for the Leagues of Votann includes all the usual lore and rules for the tenth edition of Warhammer 40,000.

The background section of the book d covers everything from their history, culture and organisation to the units and weaponry they use in battle. While some of this was included, in whole or in part, in the previous Codex, there does appear to be quite a bit of expansion of their lore in places, and there is some interesting information on the new units introduced since the previous edition. Unfortunately, there wasn’t as much in the way of short fiction in this Codex compared to some of the earlier releases, with only a half page piece, which is a little disappointing as I always liked those.

The artwork and image photography are as good as normal for a Games Workshop publication, and there is even a little variation in the colour schemes on show with models from both the Ymyr Conglomerate and Trans-Hyperian Alliance being shown in the Showcase section alongside the default Greater Thurian League models.

The rules section of the book includes all they usual rules for the Leagues of Votann in the basic game, Combat Patrol, and Crusade, and they all seem reasonably standard for this edition. The Combat Patrol feels a little basic and unfocused in the models it includes. The various Detachments available for the Faction seem to have some nice army building possibilities, however, with Detachments focusing on the Hernkyn scouts and Cthonian miners alongside the combined arms, mobile infantry and defence orientated Detachments. The Crusade main rule for the Leagues of Votann is pretty much the same as in the last edition, although with a few tweaks, earning resources through battle that can be then spent to gain rewards, but the Grudges from last edition have been replaced with Expeditions that, if completed successfully, grant extra resources. The rest of the Crusade rules are all pretty standard for the edition.
