The bad guy ACTUALLY GETS AWAY WITH DESTROYING THE WORLD. How awesome is that? Like bad guys always threaten it, but it virtually never happens. And then there's Final Fantasy VI.
His name is Kefka and he starts out as almost a joke character. He is literally dressed like a clown (and widely regarded as the Final Fantasy's answer to DC's Joker) and the first time you seem him, he's just a noisy ambassador that none of the main characters really worry about. You foil his plans and then go on your way, not caring even a little about his talk of revenge.

Fast forward to the next time you see him, he's poisoning the water supply of an entire kingdom, killing AT LEAST hundreds. And he has zero remorse for it, going so far as to say: "Hee-hee...Nothing beats the sweet music of hundreds of voices screaming in unison!" And the only reason Kefka did it pretty much sums up as he was bored and wanted to go home. That's not even the worst act he committed, but I shouldn't talk about JUST Kefka.

In Final Fantasy VI, there is no one singular main character. There are lots of main characters, all part of the Returners- a rebel faction opposing the Gestahlian Empire, which is trying to conquer the world. You have Terra, a half human, half magical creature that was mind controlled into fighting for the empire. She is also the first of only two characters that can use magic. Then there's Locke, a treasure hunter who has the special ability to steal things in battle. Edgar, self-proclaimed ladies man and king of Figaro- one of the kingdoms attacked by the empire. Then Edgar's twin brother Sabin, who has the strength to suplex an entire train and has an appetite to boot. As there's something like sixteen characters, the last character I can fit mentioning in is Celes- an Imperial general who turned her back on the empire to fight with the Returners and is the other character who can use magic.

The real magic in this game however, is in the quotes. This game, while sure, almost the entire human population of the world dies over the course of events, is zany and fun.

"Can't wage war on an empty stomach!"
―Sabin

"Son of a submariner!"
―Kefka

"If something were to happen to me, all the world's women would grieve!"
―Edgar

"And then I raised my staff, and POW! Right in the kisser!"
―Strago
