THE ARTWORK!

I love, love, love such kind of artworks.

The artwork isn't stunning or beautiful. It's just so... how do I even describe this kind of artwork? It's cartoon-ish and reminds me a lot of my childhood.I grew up watching a lot of cartoons and I guess these kind of illustrations just reminded me how fun those shows were and how I still wish they didn't get cancelled! To best describe it, the artwork was really very sweet.

The story too was really sweet. It was also cliched but I didn't really mind it because I wanted to just keep ogling at the artwork and not be bothered much with the story. However, the story wasn't monotonous. It was fun yet a bit too predictable. I kind of knew how the story would progress as soon as I started the book.

There isn't much really to say about the story. The story takes place way off in the future after the events that took place in the movie. Megan is Kim's granddaughter and she is trying to understand about her grand mom's fondness for Edward Scissorhands. Edward, on the other hand, confined in a solitary mansion, finds a broken robot and awakens him. I think if you've read a lot of stories that goes this way, you might be able to tell what will happen next. The robot runs away and scares everyone in the neighborhood, Megan befriends Edward and they save the day!

As cliche as it sounds, it was still a very enjoyable and a sweet read and I think I might get a physical copy of this book when it's out! Just for the artwork!

I’m a huge fan of Edward Scissorhands movie. As soon as I saw this one on NetGalley, I jumped at the chance and downloaded it (lucky it was up for direct download.) I enjoyed reading it and the story was really engaging. I really liked the characters and the illustrator has done a fabulous job in creating such a colorful and capturing art work.

I loved the characters as well, though I really missed Kim, and before starting the book I was expecting that this might begin with Kim and Edward’s relationship. But as it turned out, the story was totally different. It was about Kim’s grand-daughter Meg (Megan.) Though the story was quite predictable, I still had a great time and being a fan of Edward I had a huge smile on my face the entire time.

I’m looking forward to read the next one and see what happens now that Megan and her mom have proven, again, that Edward is harmless.

Kim has died, but her granddaughter Meg is soon to discover that Kim's stories about Edward are all true...

This is a perfect graphic novel for everyone that loves the movie Edward Scissorhands. I found the art a bit messy at first, but then I got used to it and even started to like it. I had some problems with my bluefire reader on my ipad so the first time I read this one was everything in black and white, which made it a bit difficult to read. So I read the graphic novel agin this time on a computer, well mostly the parts that didn't make much sense in black and white. So much more easier to read in color.

A lovely story and I'm looking forward to read more Edward Scissorhands graphic novels, although I miss Kim...I really need to see the movie again...

I received this copy from the publisher through Netgalley in return for an honest review!

Set decades after the film, Kim has passed on and her granddaughter Meg has now become friends with Edward. Edward has lived alone in his castle for years. He's lonely and turns on an old experiment he names Eli, one that he only finds out later is unstable and dangerous. When Eli abducts a boy, the town of course blames it on Edward.

The story is boring and generic. Rausch draws Edward Scissorhands well, but his human figures are way too cartoonish for a book that should have a Gothic look to it. The book often looks more Rugrats than Edward Scissorhands.

(Received from Netgalley for review.)

This is a sequel to the movie, set 20 years later. Kim has died, and her granddaughter, Meg, has sort of stepped into her role. She's fascinated by the stories her grandmother told her about Edward, even though her own mother insists that they're not true. It did take me awhile to warm up to Meg, and I never really understood her mother.

The best part of the book is right there on the cover. I liked the art a lot, especially when it came to Edward and the castle. The style felt like it suited to me. It's different, more cartoony, for the town, but I kind of liked that, too. It has a sort of Saturday morning cartoon feel that was appealing to me.

The story, on the other hand, is kind of weak. It's very much like the story in the movie, to begin with, with the same themes of alienation and fearing people who are different. It just has a happier ending, one that seemed to come entirely too quickly. One moment, there's a literal mob. The next, everything seems to be fine. But this is volume one, so maybe it isn't quite as neatly resolved as it seems from the last issue in this volume.

I didn't like that the story here kind of felt like a rerun of the original movie, but at least the art is nice.

I read this graphic novel for free from NetGalley as a "Read Me Now" download. I wanted to read a quick graphic novel and I love Edward Scissorhands so I thought this would be perfect.

Edward Scissorhands Vol 1 is the sequel to the movie. In the movie Kim and Edward become friends and at the end he is made to hide away in his castle for a crime he didn't commit.

In this graphic novel Kim is dead and her granddaughter Meg wants to find out about the whole "murder" thing. Her mother will not open up to the past and so Meg has to do some digging on her own. She eventually meets Edward and is amazed that her grandmother's past is real and not a made up story. There is a new experimental character that we meet in this graphic novel and a missing person.

Will Edward be to blame again? Find out next week....on Edward Scissorhands Vol 1: Parts Unknown. Teehee!

I adored the illustrations they were my favorite part. Almost reminiscent to some of the old Nickelodeon cartoons like Rocko's Modern Life. The story itself was cool. If it was just story alone I'd give the graphic novel 3 stars but since the illustration were pretty awesome it was bumped up to 4 stars!

I will definitely read Vol 2.

I love everything about Edward Scissorhands. This graphic novel is was great. The art was kind of wonky but the story was a good one. Although I miss Kim in this it was still enough goodness to get me to look into more of these.

I cannot tell you how excited I was to find this graphic novel. I absolutely adore Edward Scissorhands. It was one of my favorite movies growing up and it still is as an adult. Opening this book was a nice little sense of nostalgia. I think this is a comic that all fans of the movie will enjoy.

What I absolutely loved about this comic is the artwork. It's absolutely gorgeous! It has the dark, dreary Tim Burton-esque feel that we all know and love, but is given an almost adorable face lift. It all looks a little more cartoonish and approachable. It came to life on the page and did a great job of bringing both familiar and new characters to life and conveying a story.

The story, for me, is where this book was lacking. It takes place in the future from the movie that we all know and talks about Kim's granddaughter. It's a very sweet story that I enjoyed reading, but it came off as predictable and a bit one-dimensional.

Overall, it's worth reading, especially if you're as big of a fan of the Edward Scissorhands movie as I am. The artwork is absolutely fantastic, and brings to life the more lacking story-line.

I was provided this book in exchange for my honest review. This review can also be found on my blog, Bitches n Prose.

Edward Scissorhands Vol. 1

I think that if you liked the movie, you'll like this short first volume of graphic novels with Edward Scissorhands. It had been some time for me since I last saw the movie, but I really should watch it again. This graphic novel really reminded me of the movie. Not just because it obviously has Edward in it, but also the complete feel of the novel was almost the same for me.

The artwork resembles (at least for me) that of the American animation series that I used to watch as a kid. So even more nostalgia.

A lovely little book, looking forward to more Edward Scissorhands novels!

Perfect.

Perfectly eerie.

Perfectly imagined.

Loved the take by bringing Edward Scissorshand back and instead introducing 2 generations after Kim.

The artwork was also beautiful and vivid and can already see myself buying my own copy of this so I can display its beauty on my shelves.

How I do wish my library had the 2nd volume available. Sigh.

I picked this one up only because I love Edward Scissorhands and it was a graphic novel and I found it for half its price online.

It was a very pleasant surprise. The drawings are somehow dark and cute at the same time and the color palette is very vivid and bright.
The story itself is very simple, it felt super nostalgic but in some parts I had the feeling it was very disconnected from the "main" story.
The thing is if you take it as a separete story you will enjoy this a lot.
If you only take it as a sort of sequel you will feel a little confused by some characters behaviors and simply not totally right.

I took the first option and ended up having a great time reading it!

Edward

Edward Scissorhands has to be one of my favourite Tim Burton characterse/movies of all time, so when I was browsing through NetGalley and saw that there was a graphic novel coming out soon I was beyond excited. I have a new found love for graphic novels and mashing that up with one of my favourite movie characters of all time was the perfect mix to capture my attention.

At first glance I thought that this graphic novel was going to be a straight retelling of the film, but instead to my surprise it was a sequel. I tend to be a little iffy about sequels after such a long period of time after the initial release of a movie, but I figured because it was in the format of a graphic novel I would give it a go.

This story introduces the audience to a new character named Meg who turns out to be the granddaughter of Kim, the character from the film portrayed by Winona Ryder. Kim has recently passed away leaving Meg with all kinds of unanswered questions about the mysterious man who lives in the castle on top of the hill that has been accused of murder. Meanwhile, Edward has been living in the castle alone for endless years as he is no longer welcome in the city due to event that took place in the film. While rummaging through the castle he stumbles along another creation by the same man who created him, only to find out that this creation is missing a vital piece.

I love that the story kept it's ties to Kim and her family. It wouldn't be the same without some mention of her character. I love that it stayed true to the character of Edward. In the film he is very soft spoken, innocent and shy. He is obviously also very misunderstood. The dialogue between Edward and Meg was great with her doing most of the talking and his response being no more than a sentence. The illustrations were also pretty great, some frames were a bit hectic and hard to understand for me, but for the most part it felt very much like Tim Burton. I loved the idea of being able to see what happened after the events of the film.

However, as I did like a lot of things there were a few things that I did not. The introduction of a new character/creation kind of bothered me. Edward has been up in that castle for decades and he's never found him until now? Also, his character design wasn't really doing it for me either. While the illustrations in this novel felt very "Burton-esque", to me this new character didn't feel like he was designed by the same person. Also, the ending felt a little rushed and forced. One minute there is a riot and the next everything is completely calm and okay.

Overall, I did enjoy this story. Like I said, I'm a huge Burton fan and more specifically a huge Edward Scissorhands fan, so being able to see a new story unfold was exciting and fun! I would love to own a hard copy of this graphic novel in the future!

Thank you to NetGalley for supplying a free e-copy for an honest review!

I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. All opinions in this post are my own.

From NetGalley: An all-new adventure revisiting Edward Scissorhands' two decades after the end of the fan-favorite movie! In a castle just outside a sleepy suburban town, a brilliant inventor created Edward Scissorhands…but left him tragically unfinished. Two generations of exile have left Edward digging through abandoned experiments, but once he wakes up a creature left buried, he discovers he isn't the only one missing a vital piece. As Edward tries to fix a grave mistake, he comes face-to-face with a teenage girl who was sure he was only myth... despite the stories her grandmother told her about the man she could never touch.

I. Love. This. The art style is stylized and gothic, in the vein of the beloved Beetlejuice cartoon I grew up with. It's very Tim Burton-esque and I immediately wanted to see this as an animated or claymation film. The story is a little dark, following Kim's granddaughter as she meets Edward and another creation, proving that the stories her grandmother used to tell her were true. Edward Scissorhands is not one of my favorite films and I didn't realize I was interested in the aftermath of the film until I saw this comic existed. Now I'm ready for more! Fans of the film should certainly check this out - and even if you're not a hardcore fan, give it a try and like me, you may find yourself pleasantly surprised and very interested in this new story line.

Originally reviewed on my blog

This graphic novel is a sequel that picks up not immediately after the movie, but two generations later. Instead of Kim, we get to follow her granddaughter. I really don’t want to say much about the story, because it’s short and anything I say might spoil it.

Where to begin? Ok, the art. Oh my gosh, the art! I love it! It reminds me a lot of Cartoon Network shows from when I was younger, like Courage the Cowardly Dog. But, it’s also reminiscent of Tim Burton’s work. It’s…”beautiful” doesn’t seem like the right word, but that’ll have to do. The art gets at least 4 stars in my opinion.

The story was good, but something about it wasn’t totally satisfying. Maybe the ending was too abrupt for my tastes, I’m not sure. Anyway, it was nice to see how things were going for Edward, but there was a touch of sadness to it all. His seclusion all this time, him missing Kim, etc. I love Edward as a character, and always have, so my heart kinda of broke for him a few times while reading this.

Megs was pretty cool, I think. She’s a teenager, and I think I could have related to her a lot when I was that age. I won’t go into specifics, to avoid spoilers.

I gave the story itself about 3.5 stars. It was good, but not amazing. I think this will appeal to people who are big fans of Edward Scissorhands, but probably not so much to those who aren’t.

Long story short: I liked this graphic novel a lot, and I will definitely be looking forward to the next installment.

This was so cute. If a clockwork man nearly killing people can be considered cute. So maybe cute isn't the right word. Only read this if you have the movie handy, because I can guarantee that is the first thing you're going to want to do, is re-watch the movie.

Book provided by netgalley in exchange for a review. Yadda yadda.

Everything was resolved a bit too quickly, it was a bit too fast-paced, but the art made up for it (especially with the darker colours) and Gabriel Rodríquez' dust cover was aaaaaaaaamaaaaaaaazing (basically read this comic for his dust cover, hihi)

I so expected to like this; obviously I was of the exact right time and temperament for the film, and I generally love Kate Leth's stuff. But Drew Rausch's art just felt like it leaned that little too far towards the cutesy side - like, more so than Skottie Young's, not nearly as spookily Gorey as I would have thought you'd want for Edward. Or else the uncanny suburban sheen Kevin Wada's variant cover radiates, maybe. And the story...well, here's a funny thing, I'd completely forgotten the framing scenes of the film, and that Winona's character is telling the story to her granddaughter. I suppose because back at that age, and pre-Up, you never quite believe the young people you're watching could ever really be old. Well, this picks up on that granddaughter, now an alienated teen, and the mum who's predictably unimpressed by all that nonsense with which her late mother used to fill her daughter's head. Meanwhile, up in the castle, Edward finds and resuscitates one of the inventor's other creations, and wouldn't you know, it's another sharp-handed automaton, but one that's damaged inside as well as out. From there, the enterprise proceeds through much the steps you'd expect - mistaken identity, lynch mob, disbelieving authority figures - without ever quite transcending them. I'd still read the second volume, mind, in the hope that now we've got the establishing stuff out of the way Leth and co will deliver something which, like most of her work, is a cut above.

(Sorry. It's hairdressing, it brings out the punster in us all - why else do you think the shops have the names they do?)

In this graphic novel, we follow Megan, the teenage granddaughter of Kim Boggs. One day, Megan goes into storage and finds a box of her grandmothers things, among them, her grandmothers diary. In the diary Megan reads about Edward, which backs up the stories that she remembers her grandmother telling her when she was a little girl. Determined to see if Edward was real, Megan goes to the castle on the hill. When she meets Edward, he tells her that he has made a mistake, which is causing quite a stir in the town. Edward and Megan then work together to try to fix things.

First of all, I have to say that I LOVED that this graphic novel picked up with a quote right from the very end of the movie! What a lovely touch that was! It actually made me a little teary.

Overall, the plot was simple and straightforward. I found it interesting, but it didn’t totally captivate me. I enjoyed the characters and I am definitely looking forward to learning more about them in the next volume.

The artwork has a lovely strangeness to it, and the color palette created the perfect tone for each of the panels!

I would definitely recommend this to any Edward Scissorhands fan! Though I would caution readers that this collection lives in the teen section, so just keep that in mind when it comes to tone, characters, and other such things.
