I really liked this manga. I'm a sucker for supernatural stories.

Premise: A young novelist has an unusual ability to see ghosts and demons, but a past tragedy forced him to close his heart to other people. One day he is urged by his house-spirit to save a black beast and almost instantly an evil demon comes up and tries to eat him for breakfast, then the black beast transforms into a powerful demon and saves the novelist's life. In return, the demon demands the young novelist to 'feed' him and recover his real name so the demon can get his full power back?
Okay, the plot is probably nothing new or unique, but the Japanese demon folklore in the story is still finely done, the artwork is quite lovely and the main romance and its development is pretty decent too without being too cheesy or over-the-top, so 4.8 stars.

Matsuyoi no oni is such a readable series with gorgeous art style, interesting premise, and loveable characters—yes, the little timid oni as well!!
I put it on hold, thinking I might not like it considering it involves demons, and I just thought it's going to get messy and spicy with totally no consent. I thought it was going to be too mature. So, I was like, no. I don't want to be disappointed today. Not by Fumi Tsuyuhisa, no. Considering the cover, I wasn't really pleased. But tonight, I decided I would finally read it because I liked Ugetsudou so much, and I needed some beauty to be refreshed. Surely, I found the beauty here. And I definitely wasn't disappointed. At all. Also, no tension at all, this was so funny!!
I swear, Tsuyuhisa sensei just never disappoints!! It is like she has this some kind of magic dust that she uses to make her stories evolve from cliché to some kind of out-of-ordinary bl story. I just love her so much!! Well, I just dropped by to rate my now-favorite bl from sensei. Gorgeous art style and interesting plot!! There sure are funny scenes supported by comical art style. And the little oni is so cute, lol!!
The characters' relationship development is fast-paced (something that I'm not a fan of, considering it seems rushed and somewhat forced,) though with all that plot trying to squeeze in one volume in its standard length, I kinda get it.

Aww, this was surprisingly romantic. However, I would say that this one is lamentably undercooked. The story rushes through without enough time to establish the intimacy and romantic feelings that it’s shooting for. It simply didn’t have enough time and page space to really get the juicy character & plot development that it needed.
However, even with its flaws in mind, I did enjoy this. This is one of those cases where I’ll have to honestly say that it wasn’t great and rate it accordingly, but please know that I did like it on a personal level quite a bit. I thought that the characters and their personalities were super charming, and I love a story set in Taisho Japan. The hakama are just to die for! Plus, I do think that the leads have good chemistry that make up for their lack of time together– I kind of can’t help but like them together.
Minoru especially is a very charming take on the "I've been able to see spirits since I was young" protagonist trope -- although he was very traumatized as a child, he's grown into a savvy and unaffected adult who is used to his circumstances.
(I'm also projecting love on him a little because he reminds me of my beloved Gentaro Yumeno in that he's a Taisho-era writer who wears kimono and speaks in an old-fashioned manner. I can't help it, I love this kind of man!)
I’m just sad that I feel as though the romance part, and their blossoming feelings for each other, was quite rushed and taken for granted. If these two had had more time to get to know each other properly and have an evenly-paced relationship, I think it would have been a lot more compelling. But as it is now, the writing regrettably isn’t up to snuff.
I thought that the art was also mostly great, but sometimes a bit awkward. Tsuyuhisa has a really clean style of linework, and I love the character designs and fashion. Whenever the characters have simplified expressions, too, they look so funny and adorable. I think the weakest part of the art is actually the sex scenes. Some of the posing and perspective feels a bit stiff to me at times, and I do think that the smutty parts were actually a bit weak in comparison to the romantic and character parts of this book, which is a bit rare for a BL like this.
Nonetheless, this book had too many tropes in it that I adore, so I’m quite biased, and it’s hard for me to dislike it. Even though the writing has a lot of flaws, I still want to recommend it if you’re looking for a “turn your brain off” sweet & smutty yokai romance. ^_^

Un BL entre un jove escriptor que percep esperits des de ben petit i un dimoni que ha estat maleït per un avantpassat del noi. És una llàstima que només sigui un volum únic perquè va tot molt de pressa i es podria haver aprofundit la trama i la psicologia dels personatges, així com resoldre algun fil argumental (el dimoni és immortal, però l'escriptor no... quin és el pla? ^^'). Entretinguda i original!

Me hubiera encantado que el romance fuera más robusto, porque la ambientación y la trama paranormal del manga fue buenisima. Además de un lindo estilo de dibujo.

Not a read for the Monster and Demon lovers unless you like your series feeling very vanilla.
This is a manga I was highly anticipating and was waiting for it to show up. Here I was thinking we'd get some hungry demon on human action, and... actually it wasn't really like that at all. There was a little bit of nibbling and a little bit of smut, but not at all what you would think diving in. And perhaps having that high of hopes ruined it a smidgen for me.
I found that it didn't leave me satisfied after reading. This is... probably more tame than some demon x human series I've seen. Semi-censored occasional smut (probably 3 scenes at least, four at most) and a not fully polished story. It has a point A to point B plot, but it definitely feels like there's more that could've been, and even feels like some bits got cut out. It makes sense, looking at the story from a very bare bones perspective, however this would've worked far better as a short (3-4vol) series. Even with the little smut there is. We could've had more regarding Minoru's past with his mother, more as to why he possibly saw Maru when he was a kid, more to why Maru was alone when along came Tomoe.
Anyway, if you want something that's more vanilla on the smut side with no CWs (I didn't notice any CWs or Triggers at all with this), then maybe this is for you. However, don't go in thinking this is going to be a prime 18+ demon railing human into humiliation all over the place kinda read. Because its definitely not.
That all said, I hope Tsuyuhisa-san will give us more demon content in the future, because the art is very pretty, and overall we do love tales where the protagonist is a writer and both parties are share a singular braincell.

The supernatural lore from the little girl spirit, the spider woman, to the demon who transforms into a dog adds interesting layers to the story.
It’s medium-paced and the romantic development flows naturally. There is a small amount of spice. Overall beautiful art and story.

I somehow wasn’t aware that this has a historical setting, so I was a bit caught off guard at first. But I did like the setting in the end, as a lot of the behaviour can be explained by it. I liked the aspect of being able to see demons and the little child was really cute. However, I had hoped for it to be a bit more spicy and also that there was a stronger emotional connection. But none of it was the case unfortunately, which is why it did disappoint in the end on the romance front. Storyline-wise I enjoyed it and I also liked the slight mystery aspect in addition to the supernatural. Maru was also really fun as a character. Still, it is definitely not a favourite but it’s also not bad. Maybe, if I had different expectations and new about the setting, I might’ve gone into it with a different mindset and enjoyed it more. But alas, that’s unfortunately not the case.

Minoru has always been different as he's always been able to see demons. He's learned how to avoid them when needed for the most part until "the child" leads him to an unusual dog injured outside his door. Turns out this dog is actually a powerful demon who has lost his name and some of his power due to an encounter with an earlier version of Minoru's soul. Minoru takes this chance as an opportunity to learn something new for his work as an author while also satisfying the demon's craving for his power. What Minoru didn't expect was the emotions and attachment that grow out of this unlikely pact, nor his new roommate's reaction when he assumes the worst and runs right into danger yet again.

This was a cute and quick read. I wish it was another volume or 2 longer so that the story can be expanded on a bit with Minoru and Maru’s pasts, and their relationship as a more serious couple. I also wish the child spirt was a bit more involved in the story since there was some amusing potential there.
