This book really isn't for me. Besides the spelling/grammar issues (it's Iris's, not Iris'!!), I didn't like it right from the beginning. Ya know, when the heroine not only wanted to smoke weed while driving...but also do so while heading to an AA meeting with her sponsor. The only reason that didn't happen was because her lighter wasn't working.

Iris also has the cliched, stereotypical gay bff, which I always hate in books. And, of course, because he's a gay man, it's perfectly fine for both parties to be kissing.

“I need love…”

“Go get it, sweetie.”

She smirked, then kissed his cheek. “Love you.”

“Love you back.”

Camden squeezed out a hug and kissed her lips in a quick, friendly motion.

And then there's Preston meeting his older brother, Richard. And we find out that Richard's nickname for his little brother is "baby," which is totally not weird at all:

“Baby!” Richard shouted, using Preston’s childhood nickname. ...

Richard sat his coffee cup on the table then hugged his brother. “I love you, Baby. No matter what.” ...

“Baby, you’re looking well. Amazing, actually. I mean, the last time I saw you…wow,” Richard began, but couldn’t find the words to express himself.

And then there's also the little tidbit about how Preston, the hero, and Peter, Iris's cheating ex-husband, are probably brothers (though I didn't get far enough to confirm).

Then there's also how the abusive parent is handled (so far). I have an issue with the sentiment that, despite your parent having abused you as a child (or allowing you to be abused), they still loved you...but just didn't know how to express it.

“Remember that fight we had when Pops put his hands on me and Mom defended him instead of me?” ...

“I resented mom for not standing up for me. She never did. Ever. And I couldn’t wait for the day that she left this world. Now that she’s gone, I feel worse than I felt when she was alive. Will I always be haunted by that woman?”

“She loved you, Iris. She just didn’t know how to show you.”

No fucking thanks.

And then there's also the weird incestuousness with her twin brother, Idris. I dunno...maybe it's just me, but it's too fucking weird to me for one to be kissing one's brother. And having him smack your butt. While lying in bed with one another.

He slapped her butt. “Go get in your bed. You’ll be fine. We’ll both be fine. Mom is no longer in her misery. She’s finally free. We should both find some peace in that.” ...

“Then do it,” he said, kissing the top of her head. “Can I go back to sleep? Please?”

“Okay.” She kissed Idris on the lips and went back to her room.

I even skimmed on ahead to see where the story was going, only to come across a scene in which the H and h are in the kitchen (this happens post-sex between them). The h, Iris, is topless and only wearing a thong...and in walks her brother, Idris. She proceeds to greet her brother like this, even kissing him on the mouth.

Soooo...yeah. I'm just gonna peace on outta here now.

I never expected that ! I was sitting around reading this book smiling because the writing is good I loved Preston and Iris, I was happy to see Prudence and Richard from her first book I was in heaven. I was totally thrown by the secret in this book , I have never read anything like that before . This is a good story and I can not wait to see what the author writes next.

Wow!!! What can I say, this is one of those books that once you pick it up, it's impossible to put down until you reach THE END. This author knows how to bring the drama and she did in abundance in this novel.

Iris Meadows was married to Peter Mayweather and facilitated his education and career, just as she was about to reap the fruits of her labor, she found herself divorced, broke and alone. Her unsupportive mother died and Iris decided to return to her hometown of Chicago.

It was there that she met Preston, another broken soul and when these two broken souls came together, they healed each other or did they. This is where the drama that takes the reader on a rollercoaster ride. Secrets, infidelity, surprises all make this one enjoyable ride.

I've never heard of this author, and although it's wrong, I'm sometimes hesitant about reading books from authors that I'm not familiar with, or haven't been recommended by one of reading books. I was on FB last week and the author posted in of the groups that I belong to that She this book was free under Kindle Unlimited, so I thought, 'why not?'.

I was drawn in from the beginning, but somewhere along the way, I lost interest a bit. I was determined to finish the book, so I trudged on. I'm so glad I did! This book has a twist that I never saw coming, and once everything was out in the open, I was shocked! S H O C K E D!!! In all honesty, if I had known about the twist, I probably would have never read the book, so I'm really glad I didn't know, because I would have missed out on a good story...and a completely different way to look at certain situations. Great job, Ms. Kimbrough! And the revelation scene? Hysterical!

I've already downloaded Prudence's story, so I guess it's safe to assume that I I liked this one, LOL.

I found this book to be melancholy drama that constantly presented bad luck.It was a good read, but what I couldn't get ready for was the openness of family members viewing each others nakedness/sexuality.

I was looking for more than the quick ending given. There should have been more. Given the topics of interest presented within its pages, this book will hold the attention of readers.Give it a try.

Good Read!!!

Iris was going through a difficult time when she met Preston. They were both immediately attracted to one another. They both had some secrets that would either tear them apart or bring them closer together. I really enjoyed this book and this was the first book that I've read by this author. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

Great book! Very well written, clear direction, all the characters had depth. The love story was wonderful and the twists and turns in the book will make you not want to put the book down. I also like how characters from this book were also in the author's other book, "Prudence." Story continuation and interaction was wonderful. I loved it!

This was my first book by the author. It was very good! I was not expecting that confession! Very good read.

Her description of Chicago had me looking up pics on the Internet and wondering if I need to move.

The family argument was the truth! That's how fold get down!

I wasn't going to read this one but after I saw that characters from the first book would be in this one.....I was intrigued (again). Further, the comments from other readers about this game changer moment in the book was he final nail for me to give this one a shot. I read a lot of books and usually can figure out where a story line will go early on, even in my worst case scenario, I still did not come up with what actually happens. I will give this author credit for a jaw dropper moment in a book. I still think she needs to work on putting more "meat" on her story lines. She had a great opportunity with the "six degrees of separation" moments that were occurring with with the main characters new "friend" that was highly present in the first book, but she didn't do anything exciting with that development. The author has potential and it may be better with her third book. I'm just not jumping to read the after these two.
