He broke her heart. Then blew up her notifications. Now she’s bringing the apocalypse.
You can’t spend your whole life with “the one.”
Why? Because it’s too dangerous. Too painful. Too terrifying. Find the perfect person, and you’ll spend forever afraid of losing them. Settle for someone almost perfect, and life’s manageable—you can survive if they walk away. But if “the one” leaves you? That’s the end of the world.
Mila Johnson was sure she’d moved past hers. She’d moved to Blue Ridge, scrubbed Luke Fenningen from her heart, and hit full recovery. No daydreaming about him. No remembering his number at 2 a.m. And definitely no stalking. Finally, she was free.
Until one sunny

Now she’s got a plan. It’s bold. It’s messy. And it could blow up in her face…
UNREAD is a witty, slow-burn small town romance about love, bad timing, and the dangerous game of getting even—with the one person you never really got over. Perfect for fans of flirty banter, second chances, and heroines who don’t play by the rules.
Madison Colt writes raw, heart-twisting romances with characters you can’t forget and emotions you can’t shake off. Her books blend passion, humor, and that bittersweet ache of love you almost lost.
Her heroines always bring chaos—the kind that turns lives upside down—and the men? Well, they’re irresistibly addictive, sexy as hell, and impossible to walk away from. Every cup of coffee turns into sarcasm in her veins, fueling every wicked line and unapologetic twist in her stories.
When she’s not writing, she’s riding horses, traveling to new places, people-watching in coffee shops, or plotting her next fictional heartbreak—all while being dangerously funny and more than ready to mess with your heart.
Read with caution: you might laugh, cry, and fall a little bit in love. The characters in her books are fictional. Any resemblance to real people is purely coincidental… though the author can neither confirm nor deny otherwise.
Cheating = the H in the story is on/off with the h throughout the book. At one point the H just ghosts the h then shows up a few weeks later as "in a relationship" with OW. Did he cheat while with the h?? He definitely monkey branched his way to the OW by starting to "like" her posts on social media which the h was aware of. H does for sure cheat on OW with the h a few times physically and emotionally. Later when h was with OM and had just gotten engaged, she calls the H over and then proceeds to cheat on the OM with the H.
h leaves town and everyone behind, and we skip a couple of years forward. h randomly runs into the H, and she declares everlasting love to the H, then book ends...Is it HFN?? HEA? Who knows but it seems there will be a book centering around the H and that will either finish the tale or just give us the H's side of things. So maybe cliffhanger? Maybe just leaving it up to the reader to use their imagination to go whatever route they choose?

These are just my thoughts, I don't do synopsis. You can read the blurb for that. This story has a bit of everything in it and some things you're not going to like. The main female is well developed. The main male character is there, but never really. Until the very end of the story, I personally couldn't handle the MF; for a lot of reasons. But that just demonstrated how well the author painted her character. There's some good heat in the bedroom, the dialogue is spot on, and for the rest, you're just going to have to read it.
This was a decent read, but I wasn't happy with the ending. He treated her like complete crap for six years and she still chose to go back.
"The ones who swim upstream no matter how hard the current pulls. And even fewer are the ones who don't quit. Not after the second failure, not after the third. The ones who still get up the next morning even after the storm tears off their roof. The ones who accept. Just like you did, that yeah - tonight, I'm sleeping in the damn kitchen. But I still believe this is gonna work."
