Ilya The rest of us woke after a few days, when it became apparent we'd survived the drug. Even Corinne woke faster the first time. This time, three weeks had passed. I was grateful for the scans and other tests Dr. Farrell ran, indicating she was alive. Still, I was terrified for her. And for me. I spoke to her often and lately, I begged her to open her eyes. After surviving the drug a second time, Corinne's abilities are put to the test as the enemy steps up his attacks. Will she survive the attempts on her life, as well as betrayal from within? As she struggles to keep the others alive, a new threat arrives—one even the enemy doesn't see coming.
Connie Suttle lives in Oklahoma with her husband and three cats.
Connie holds an MFA in Fine Art (film production and animation) and taught courses at the university level before moving on to bookstore management. Nowadays, if she isn't writing or editing, she's dreaming up her next book.
I wrote both reviews Cloud Dust and Cloud Invasion the same day. Cloud Invasion answered all my questions about the first book. Because I love Connie Suttle's writings I jumped from book one right into book two, I wish three was ready now. Corrine is a excellent character and I love Rafe, the ending well this is Connie Suttle and she can leave you hanging until next time. I like the idea that this one is in our time frame. Thanks Connie I will always be a fan.
I'm thinking I like her more than Lissa. I love how complicated each book is and how it will incorporate other books and characters from previous series. You just never know what is going to happen a lot of the time!I will say that the one thing I enjoy most is that women aren't as door-matty as they were in the first series.I wish Lissa had said "screw it!" a bit sooner/more.
A fast paced, action packed tale Connie weaved in part 2 of the R-D series. I was just as irritated by the male characters, like Ilya and Auggie second guessing Corrine. I think she is a kick *ss heroine with more heart than her colleagues realized or deserved. I hope there is more to this series!
91Od4BLubUL._SL1500_I'll admit that I picked up Connie Suttle's Cloud Dust: RD-1 originally on a whim. It was different, fast paced, engaging, and the characters were appealing. Then, it ended on a cliff hanger. It wasn't a bad cliff hanger--just enough of one that you really wanted to know where the story was going next, but you were willing to wait for it.
Corinne is a part of 'The Program": a secret military experiment that develops extrasensory skills through a special treatment on military volunteers... and has a 95% failure/death rate. The only problem?
Corinne was never military, and she never volunteered.
Bullied and ignored by the "real" military volunteers, she appears to have no special skills beyond her new youth and face... Until her special brand of skills--the skills she's hidden for five years--are needed.
Then Cloud Invasion: RD-2 came out.
Wow. The story takes you on a crazy ride of unexpected turns and twists. Corinne has become a character of unexpected powers and increasing secrets, while the secrets behind the "Dust" they were infected with emerge with a series of surprises. Corinne is keeping the remnants of the Program alive, but her handlers (and, understandably, the government) are beginning to question her skills and her power...
The end of this book leaves you gasping for breath.
And then it haunts you...
Cloud Invasion:RD-2 offers the first hint that this might be more than government secret programs science fiction type of story. Surprising hints of fantasy emerge in Suttle's unexpected style of writing the one with hints of the other. This is similar to how her book Finder is clearly fantasy--except it has hints of science fiction in it.
Not having read any of Suttle's Larentii books, I didn't recognize some of the plot subtleties in Cloud Invasion: RD-2. While the lack did not appreciably detract from the storylines of books one and two, this is of some concern for the upcoming book three, since the teaser for Cloud Rebel: RD-3 (to be released May 16, 2015) implies the Larentii are a large part of the third book. I'm torn between my burning desire to read Cloud Rebel: RD-3 and my concern that I'll be lost without the Larentii background.
In this second novel in the R-D series, Corinne has to adjust to new changes she undergoes after receiving a second dose of Cloud Dust. The political intrigue and subterfuge is still intense, and the ending is tragic. I don't understand why Corinne handles the events at the end the way she does. She doesn't assert herself; rather she lets other people make the decisions without saying, "NO! This won't work. I need to be in that room. End of discussion." This kind of weakness irks me. I have the same comments about the characters and editing as in book 1. This series is still enjoyable in small doses.
Enjoyed this book so much! Just as all of Connie Suttle's books are wonderful, this one is just special. The characters are so real and the story line grabs hold and makes you want to finish the book as quickly as possible. The love between Cori and Rafe is almost tangible. Very much have to know what is next for those two and every one else in this book. Amazing writer!
I love Connie Suttle. Her writing is awesome. Wow. This picks right up where book 1 ended. The twists and turns are so well thought out. The characters are still growing and evolving this book and it's wonderful to watch them change. There is some death, destruction and loss in this book also. The ending though, I need book 3.
Well, Connie has done it again! I loved it! Can't wait till spring for book 3. Please keep up the good work. I'm still trying to pinpoint when this takes place in the timeline. I think it is after the God Wars and a lot of Cori's powers are VERY similar to Breanne's in the God Wars. Can't wait to see what happens next. Thanks Connie!
Oh my goodness, what an ending. Connie Suttle always leaves me wanting more. So much has happened in this book. Corinne and Ilya finally have gotten married and then so many things interfered with their time. Can not wait to read the next book. Must read series and author.
Faster moving than the first book in the series, this develops the character of Corinne to an unforseen ending, with a devastating cost to a number of other characters in the story.
Omg. There were clues that went right over my head. What an ending to R-D 2! Yikes, I wonder what will happen next? This book was a great Christmas gift.
I loved this book. I especially got excited half way, once you read it, (if you read Connie's other books) you will understand! Can't wait for the next one!
