I'm sitting in front of my computer staring at my keyboard trying to find the right words and ignore the guilt I feel for writing this review.
BUT!
Guilt or not, I'm going to keep this 100% honest.

Meagan, girl.. this book was a mess.
The first book I read fucking blew me away! I was in love with all the characters, especially Raven. The lust was steamy, the drama was biting your nails good and the suspense made me want to pull at my own hair. There was an intense plot building and I wanted all the answers at once!
The second book. Whoa! Okay, okay. What the ever loving fuck? But he's? So that means? But how did? Wait a second...
Many of those moments, more built up suspension, OTT getting a little too corny but eh, bring on number 3!
I love this author, I love her writing style and the personalities she gives each of her characters. She's doing things a little different compared to most YA books.
However...
This book was a huge disappointment.
- Facts/Plot: Don't get me wrong, I LOVE a badass story with so much drama I can't see straight, as long as said drama stays clear and moderate to follow. Clean, organized and ability to understand each scenes' plot reveal as the book continues.
But this was not the case for Reign of Brayshaw. There was SO MUCH INFORMATION, I mean, a FUCK load, dropped every couple of pages kind of thing... It was not clean, organized or making sense. It was just too much. There were moments where certain characters would explain certain situations or things that happened in the past but it was still so chopped up! Not making sense or needing further details. The answers kept getting pushed back and back and back; extremely annoying. It would've been perfectly fine if another character vocalized the point of what the information-spilling character is talking about.
Example: (This is NOT a scene from the book, I'm just making this scene up)
Girl: But what about what he said! He said I was worth no one's time and that everyone should stay away from me. He hates me!
Boy: And since that day, you haven't had a single issue at school or at home, from anyone, have you?
Girl: *thinks. Light bulb turns on*
Girl: *whispers* ..He was protecting me. He was making sure no one bullied me or hurt me..
Ding ding ding! Though we can probably guess what the boy is insinuating, some may not, so we still have the character in the conversation voice it out loud to explain and make it clear what the point of another characters actions were.
This is how the book went instead:
Girl: But what about what he said! He said I was worth no one's time and that everyone should stay away from me. He hates me!
Boy: And since that day, you haven't had a single issue at school or at home, from anyone, have you?
Girl: *thinks. Light bulb DOES NOT turn on*
Girl: ...so... what does that mean?
Boy: ...Well I have to go now. Have a great day! Later!
Girl: Okay, bye.
End of scene.
This happened so many times it was BEYOND frustrating. There was no clarity for many of the situations Raven or the guys were in. And if it was explained, it was like example number two! Explained but still not making much sense. Very choppy and critical pieces of information missing.
I know I know, don't give away the farm, but damn, throw me a bone here!
- Drama/OTT: The first book and even the second was okay with the drama. A little OTT in some scenes but I could roll with it. But this third book, good lord. This was so beyond unrealistic it became comical in some areas. I rolled my eyes several times, almost DNF reading a handful of times. I'm all for some crazy ass high school drama but this literally turned into some mafia, mobster shit. The teenagers, who are 17/18, use terms like "Helluva (Hell of a)", "Trippin'", typical slang, completely appropriate for their age. But then they're saying things like, "I must do right for my people", "My town needs me, I will stay", "They're expected to stay in an order set by my name" "These are my people"
What. The. Fuck.
These teenagers are 17/18!!!! Get out of here!! These kids are acting as if they are the new kings and queen of a large village and must take care of their commoners and elite. It was so ridiculous and SO not their characters. I understand they grow and learn new foundations but this is taking it a tad too far.
Too much drama going on. This was me throughout the entire time.
20% - So....?
40% - Wha....
55% - Am I reading to fast?
75% - Yeah, I'm still fucking confused.
85% - More confused.
95-100% - Well, I still don't know what the fuck happened or what was going on through the entire book but at least they're okay.
Confused. Confused. Confused. Didn't follow. I hoped by 50% Things would start coming together and making sense.
No. It just got worse and made less and less sense every chapter. *face-palm
- Maddoc: *sigh* Maddoc was not the delicious caveman alpha we know him to be in this book. He was a coward, left with his tail between his legs, let others make choices for him, It was just NOT him. His character stayed consistent through book 1 and 2, but he lost me on book 3. It just wasn't his normal personality.
And lastly.

Raven gets pregnant. This really sucked. She has not had any time to live her life, she's only been surviving the last 18 years. I wanted her and Maddoc to focus on themselves, travel, explore, get into trouble and reach for their goals and dreams. What are Raven's goals and dreams? Oh, she didn't have any! She had nothing for herself and that was a weird trait to me mainly because she is so strong and wanted to GTFO there. She needed time to heal, accept, gain closure, grow as a person, grow as a couple with Maddoc. But She won't get any of that now that her next focus instead of the OTT drama is a brand new baby she is in no shape or form to take care of at the moment. I was genuinely sad she got pregnant. She deserved a shot at life.
I love Meagan, I love her writing. Unfortunately, this book was a disappointment in my opinion and not consistent with the entire story line at all. I will still read more of her books, she's an amazing Author.
But this book just didn't do it for me like I'd hoped.
