There are only three things Mikey Tucker chases: danger, buckles, and buckle bunnies. With no intentions of settling down, he likes living life on the edge. In fact, he thrives on the edge. But after claims by the media that he’s distracted and pressure from his friends, he’s determined to prove them wrong.
Juniper Ray built her future around the boy she thought she’d spend forever with…until she catches him sleeping with her best friend. Fleeing to a small town in Montana, she’s ready for a clean slate, a new start. When she sees the bull rider who her now ex-best friend once had a fling with, she hatches a plan to get her revenge.
Juniper approaches Mikey at Rudy’s bar with a proposition, and there’s no way he can turn her down. They create an arrangement that meets both of their needs, no strings attached, no feelings necessary. Their biggest rule: don’t fall in love and no one gets hurt.
As the stakes rise and boundaries are crossed, they become tangled in a PR stunt that extends their relationship. It was always meant to be temporary. But hearts don’t know the difference between real and fake, and rules were always meant to be broken.

I’ve absolutely loved Mikey since book 1. Definitely enjoyed being able to learn more about him and seeing his journey. This was such a good time!!
Every time I read one of H.K. Green’s books, I want to finally go to a rodeo 😩. I’m already making plans for 2026–looking forward to checking off a first 🤭
A bet, revenge, and some fake dating are set against the high energy world of bull riding in The Hearts We’ve Broken.
Juniper is starting a new life, but not the one she expected. After catching her boyfriend and best friend together, she’s reevaluating everything. Then her ex’s favourite bull rider - and her best friend’s former fling - walks through the door.
Mikey has been written off by everyone as a playboy. In fact, his friends have bet he can’t get - and keep - a girlfriend for a month. So when the stunning bar tender walks over and kisses him, he runs with it.
After their night together, they strike a fake dating deal - but they both keep their reasons close to their chests. What could possibly go wrong??
Interspersed with some nail biting bull rides, this cowboy/sports romance was a fun, easy read. There’s a helpful guide to bull riding at the start of the book for those unfamiliar with it (hi, that me). It was most definitely a fast burn, open door (or Ferris wheel…or trailer…) romance. The book does deal with cheating (not the main couple). There’s no animal injury/cruelty in the story.
All up, this was enjoyable. It’s part of a series but I read it as a standalone easily. Fans of cowboys will enjoy this book.
Thank you to @authorhkgreen for the #gifted e-book.
This captivating story marks the third installment in The Road & The Rodeo Series, and it certainly does not disappoint! Mikey and June's journey is enchanting, and their chemistry is electric.
Told from both Mikey and June's perspectives, this story immerses you in a cleverly crafted fake relationship, each with their own motivations. However, as their connection deepens, they can’t ignore the undeniable attraction blossoming between them. I was particularly thrilled to delve deeper into Mikey’s character. While his friends, fans, and the media paint him as a typical womanizer, beneath that tough exterior lies a tender-hearted soul. The chaos and humor brought to life by his vibrant friend group added an irresistible layer of hilarity to the story.
If you’re a fan of cowboys, rodeos, vibrant friendships, and sizzling romance, this book is an absolute must-read! Don't miss out and grab your copy now!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was my first ever cowboy romance and it will NOT be my last!!! I definitely will be adding H.K. Green’s other books to my TBR after this read! 🥰
Such a sweet story, I love a dual POV, I find it so intimate and interesting hearing the inner thoughts of both love interests. I am also a sucker for a fake dating trope 💘 I was so sucked into this, I read it so fast!! Juniper and Mikey’s story was so lovely and their chemistry was just amazing. And the spice? Cherry on top!!! Definitely a must for your TBR!
Thank you so so much H.K. Green for the ARK (and my new found love for a good cowboy romance🤠)! I had the best time reading your story and cannot wait to read more! ☺️
What a ride! I would say this is my first proper cowboy romance and I really enjoyed it!! I've been to a few rodeos and loved the experience and this was such a fun glimpse into that world.
I really liked that there was an explanation for different rodeo terms and there was a nice balance of romance and rodeo action.
Mikey is the playboy of his group of mates and they've bet him he can't keep a girlfriend for longer than a month.
Juniper has just walked out on her long term boyfriend after finding him in ned with her best friend.
Cue the fake relationship that will become more than either of them ever expected!
And when I say the spice was spicing? I promise that's no exaggeration!! This was a fun, quick read and I read it as a standalone even though it is part of a series. I think if you read it in order it would be so much fun to catch up with previous characters. So if you're looking for your next fun cowboy romance - this is it!!
This book contains these tropes: Reformed playboy Found family Fake dating Revenge dating Misunderstanding
Playboy Mikey needs to find a girl to date for a couple months to win a bet. Juniper comes from a small town and needs to forget her last relationship with her ex and now ex best friend. The two decide to help each other out, not really understanding what the other one gets from this agreement but knowing that it will be beneficial in some way to both parties. Mikey is a famous bull rider, meaning his whole life is in the spotlight, including relationships. This causes issues when the truth is revealed about what each side gets from this arrangement.
This book was a good read, little hard to hold my attention in some spots but I worked through them. I appreciated the spice and it not being spaced out. I’m glad they broke the rules they set about fake dating, made the story more attention grabbing.
First of all, thank you so much to the author for sending it to me, I’m honestly so happy this was my first ARC ever. I never say no to a fake dating trope, and with cowboys on top of that?? Immediate yes.
I’d never read anything by this author before and I ended up loving it. This story is part of the road and the rodeo series, but you can totally read it as a standalone (like I did). But now that I’ve finished it, I’m definitely going back to read the previous books and the ones that come after, I need to know more about ellison and colter, isa and reid.
It’s not my first cowboy book, but it is the first time I read so much about bull riders 👀👀 and it was so fun. It reads super fast, it’s addictive, and it’s exactly the kind of romance I wanted.
“Bark fucking bark” - sincerely the only highlight I made 😂
This book was a roller coaster one that 50% of the time I really wanted to be on and 50% I wasn’t sure if I did.
I will say that the smut was smutting, and the MMC was an absolute vibe!
However, the plot at times felt slightly rushed, and I would say this book has a higher rodeo to romance ratio. So if you’re a girl that enjoys the world building / development of cowboys this is 100% for you!
I wouldn’t recommend as a standalone, as the character development is integral to the story imo.
First of all, thank you so much to H.K. Green for giving me the opportunity to read this as an arc!
The hearts we've broken is the third book in The road & The rodeo series, it follows Michael 'Mikey' Tucker and Juniper. It can be read as a standalone (like I did), but reading the previous books will give more details about our main characters (I will definitely be going back to read the rest).
It was my first time reading a book by this author, and I can say I enjoyed it. I loved her writing style, it flowed really nicely and paired with how the story drew me in, I couldn't put this down. The setting was perfect for me, I love cowboy romances. Doesn't matter what the cowboy in question does, I just love them. But I have to say, the rodeo element was great. Everything was explained nicely, and in a very understandable way ( I didn't know anything about rodeos, except maybe little bits and pieces from movies and I understood everything).
Mikey and Juniper are perfect for each other, the chemistry between them it's clear since their first meeting and the tension is palpable. They are both strong characters, but they both have a softer side too due to their pasts and their insecurities. It was nice seeing them get to know each other and falling for each other.
I'm always completely obsessed with HK’s writing and I couldn’t have been more excited to be back in The Road and the Rodeo series! Just like in all of her books, she perfectly blends swoony and heartfelt moments with her witty dialogue and fast paced action of rodeo events. Something I always appreciate about her rodeo romances is how she breaks down the different aspects of rodeo life in a way that feels fresh, insightful, and makes you feel as though you're at the rodeo itself!
I’ve been looking forward to getting Mikey’s story in the last two books and it was well worth the wait! Getting to see a different side of Mikey from the cocky bull rider made for such a wonderful story. I loved watching him go through his journey of working through the frustration he has surrounding the one dimensional perception both his friends and the media see him as. Juniper was such a fun new addition to the series and she easily became a character I found myself rooting for.
Mikey and Juniper have undeniable chemistry right from their first chapter together. I love how Juniper both kept up with Mikey's banter while also bringing out a softer, more vulnerable side to him. Watching them blur the lines between fake dating and real feelings was absolutely addicting to read.
If you're looking for your next favorite cowboy romance or if you're looking to dip your toe in the genre, then this is definitely going to be the book for you! It's full of tantalizingly swoony moments and heart pounding tension!
Tropes:
🥀Fake Dating 🐂Bull Rider MMC 🥀Found Family 🐂Forced Proximity
Thank you HK for an arc of the book, I couldn't be more excited to see what's next in store for the The Road and the Rodeo series!
“Absolutely no - under any circumstances - falling in love with each other.”
Bad boy, bull rider, Mikey needs to find a girl that will hang around longer than a few weeks to win a bet. A plot of land is at stake so he has to go hard. And when recently heartbroken Juniper rolls into town and needs a little revenge, they become the perfect team. A few words down on paper will definitely stop them from falling in love…right? 😬
My first impression was that Mikey’s friends are actually pretty shit. This was the first book I’ve read in this series so I haven’t had any previous encounters of them but after reading this, I found them to be pretty crappy. Mikey is lonely and needs ‘his person’. I loved how Juniper saw him hurting when the others couldn’t. Saw his hurt with all the little small jabs he’d get, and saw the humor he used to hide his sadness. No doubt Mikey was a massive playboy and I can see they’re all a fun time but they never really give him the benefit of doubt.
At times I felt like June was a bit cold and emotionless though. I don’t think she was meant to be but that’s how some of the writing had come across. Would have loved to have made that connection with her but it fell a little short. I enjoyed when Mikey was asking what Juniper wanted and he was more than willing to oblige 🥵And all I wanted was for Mikey to stop worrying about what everyone else thought of him.
Thank you to H.K Green for the ARC 😘 The cover is gorgeous and the tropes are some of my faves 🙌🏼 I’m sure this is going to be a winner 🩷
🐮 Small Town 🐮 Bull Rider 🐮 Fake Dating 🐮 Third-Act Breakup 🐮 Revenge 🐮 Age Gap (9 years) 🐮 Found Family
First time reader of H.K Green and I’m so happy to have read this book!!
Mikey and Juniper are a type of love that is so much more realistic than is seen in most books!! There isn’t any insta love or unrealistic expectations but emotion, some mistakes and a whole lot of love.
Juniper has become one of my favorite women in cowboy romances because she is feisty, honest and feels her emotions and speaks on them! She’s a smart girl with an educated background that isn’t afraid to run from heartbreak and start again from the bottom. Total girl crush babe for Juniper 😍
Mikey is tragic but not in a depressing way. He wants the simple things in life and just to be good at what he loves but just has a bad reputation that is going to be hard to get rid of. Knowing that he’s sensitive to certain topics and watching him grow and learn to love himself was SO GOOD TO WATCH!!!
The story line and plot flowed well with no real interruptions that cause problems with understanding.
I think if someone if looking for a bull rider/cowboy romance type book with emotions, good story and mild to midrange spice, this is the book for you!
Congrats on your third book of the series and thank you to the author for sending me an ARC! ❤️
This is the third book in the Road and Rodeo series and it might be my favorite so far! Mikey and Juniper are so perfect. The romance and love story that develops is so realistic. I just appreciate the way Green develops her stories. The rodeo aspect is very factual and I love the glimpse into this life.
Mikey has always been the “playboy” and the one with the self-deprecating jokes. Juniper is one tough cookie. With a feisty exterior and not afraid to Tell it like it is. However, she has a soft center that she is very protective over, her heart. Who doesn’t love a fake dating trope? I gotta say I was really worried about the fallout for this couple!
I can’t wait to go back into this world. If you love a good cowboy romance with a little spice and some swoon worthy moments then this book, heck this whole series is for you!
Quotes I loved:
“I see you for who you are”
“At a certain point you just realize that the people who are meant for you will stick around. And if you’re having to wonder, then maybe that person was never for you.”
“Love and life wasn’t easy, but if you could take the bull by the horns and just hang on for eight seconds, the toughest parts didn’t feel impossible anymore.”
Just finished reading an advanced copy of a book that was just released on November 25th called, The Hearts We've Broken. This is book 3 in this series and this story is about Juniper, she caught her boyfriend sleeping with her best friend and now she wants revenge. Mikey is known at the town playboy, never wanting to keep a girl around for more than a night. When his friends make a bet he can't keep a girl around, he's determined to prove them wrong. Juniper and Mikey meet and have what she thinks will just be a one night stand, but then he propositions her with a fake dating arrangement that can benefit them both. Their number one rule is don't fall in love, because this isn't real. But sometimes the hearts you've broken are ones you don't mean to break. This was such a fun story! These two characters were so funny and feisty, but they also saw each other for who they really are and helped each other grow. I have really been loving this series, I love how much the side characters are a part of the story, the friends are family and it just makes these books even better! I can't wait for the next book! ❤️📚
Thank you to the author for this ARC of The Hearts We've Broken, in exchange for an honest review.
so I definitely read this out of order, so this is the first one ive ready by this author, and in this series, but god damn I am a sucker for a good fake dating trope and I fucking at this up. like genuinely, it was like they fell slowly into each other and then all at once. and I loved everything about their story. and no matter how many times they say it was fake.... from that first interaction in the bar they were both done for.
plus a reformed playboy??? sign me the fuck up every time. and genuinely?? can I just be her? run away to a small town after trauma, find a bull rider/cowboy and be out of my element but fall in love with the people and the life and learn all about the sport while being accepted by the people he surrounds himself with??? cause god damn that is the actual dream.
I am absolutely In love with this writing, and the characters felt so real I couldn't recommend this more. and I am sooooooooooo looking forward to what is next cause I have **IDEAS** of who is all together with who in possible upcoming stories and I cant wait to see im right...
"Love—and life—wasn’t easy, but if you could take the bull by the horns and just hang on for eight seconds, the toughest parts didn’t feel impossible anymore."
The Hearts We've Broken was my introduction to H.K. Green & I'm beyond glad I jumped in with both feet even having not read the first two books in this interconnected standalone series.
I fell in love with Mikey & Juniper right away! They were such a fun pair & I am always one for a spitfire FMC. I loved seeing Mikey grown and become a stronger version of himself by not only allowing himself to find more with someone but also by standing up for himself when it came to always being the butt of his friends jokes.
H.K. Green did an amazing job not only with Mikey & Juniper but also with the way she handled the rodeo scene and various events that make it up. You can easily tell that she knows a good amount about Rodeo, either via first hand knowledge or research, and it makes the entire book so much more enjoyable.
I look forward to reading more from H.K. Green & definitely will grabbing Playing With My Heart Strings immediately because the concept is so interesting!
This is my first HK Green book and I really enjoyed her writing style.
The book is book 3 in this series and even though I haven't read the first 2 books I didn't at all feel lost. From being a playboy to being Junipers man, my heart really went out to Mikey who only ever wasted to be seen and loved.. He is a funny, charismatic and has the biggest heart and will do anything for his friends and to protect Juniper. Juniper is sassy, smart and so confident, she carries herself so well despite what she's been through. With little to almost nothing to her name, worked to get herself where she wanted to be. What started off as fake, developed into something so real and so deep and I absolutely loved that neither Mikey nor Juniper were expected to give up their dreams for one another.. The one thing that is always the cherry on top is a fiercely loyal, supportive and protective friendship group and they both had that.
First off thank you so much for this ARC! I couldn’t put the book down!!
I haven’t read the others in this series but I really fell in love with Mikey and June. I felt really sorry for Mikey, I felt like he was just constantly the butt of all his friends jokes and deep down was quite insecure. Him and June worked so well together because you could see that she really understood him and saw him for himself.
I did feel like June came off as cold sometimes like with her roommate? However I loved how feisty she was and didn’t put up with shit.
I love a cowboy romance and throw in fake dating? Perfection
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌶️🌶️🌶️ I absolutely loved this book😍 I’m a sucker for a cowboy/Rodeo romance and this was 10/10! I loved Mikey & Junipers relationship and how it all started and how it progressed.
Things I loved about this book: 💖Duel POV - I’m absolutely obsessed with seeing both sides and how they each feel! 💖Fake Dating - Vome on who doesn’t eat the up! 💖The side characters - the relationship they have with others definitely tells a bigger story. (Except Natalie, I’m not sure how I felt about her given how little we knew about her) 💖Rodeo - I loved this aspect of the book, I also really appreciated the Rodeo 101. It was super helpful 💖Writing style - It was written very well.
Thank you to H.K Green for letting me read this before release day💖 Will definitely be reading this again and the rest of their work⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It was a sweet book, a little chaotic in its own rhythm, but sweet nonetheless. The FMC… yeah, she didn’t quite land for me. Immature, a bit lost, moving in circles like she didn’t want to look at the map. Meanwhile, the real MVP was him: a leading man with presence, charm, humor, and a steady sense of direction. Yes, he’s a playboy, but even then his role works; hers, not so much.
When everything blows up, my biggest issue is how she just shuts down, hides, sinks into herself instead of facing what happened. And the fact that he ends up carrying the whole weight… no. It says more about her than the story wants to admit.
Still, thank you to the author for letting me read this ARC.
I DEVOURED THIS BOOK YALL! Once I started it, I literally couldn’t put it down! Apparently I’m a sucker for the fake dating trope, because this one was too good.
I didn’t read the first two books in this series, but after this one I’m definitely going back to catch up! I do love how I was able to read this without having to read the first two prior.
Thank you again for the opportunity to read this early and be a part of your ARC team! Can’t wait for who is next 😍😍
The Hearts We’ve Broken is book 3 in The Road & The Rodeo series but can be read as a standalone. This was my first book by H.K. Green but now that I’ve fallen in love with her writing I’m going back to read book 1 & 2!
I loved every minute of Juniper and Mikey’s story🤍 This book is full on rodeo world! She takes great care in explaining details about the rodeo and its events. If you don’t know anything about rodeos you can fall along with this book!
Mikey is tough when it comes to riding bulls, but there’s a sensitive side in there too. Juniper is feisty but ready for a fresh start. This unlikely pair in the book world felt so realistic in real life🤌🏼 THWB is fast-paced and full speed ahead. Green wrote an amazing novel that I couldn’t put down📖

For my Cowboy romance girlies, you’ll enjoy this one🤠
When Juniper finds her boyfriend in bed with her best friend, she picks up her life and skips town to get away from everything. She meets Mikey, a bull rider with a reputation for one-night stands, and they strike up a deal: pretend to date each other. They both have ulterior motives, but as long as nobody falls in love, nobody gets hurt, right?
Overall, this is a lighthearted, fun, incredibly slow burn for a 350-page book. The characters are dynamic and unique from each other, the plot is engaging, and while there are spicy scenes, there’s a lot more to the romance than just spice (there’s also closed-door modifications for those that want to skip the spice). It’s a standalone within a series, so I found that there were a lot of side characters to keep track of -- at times, it felt like some of the side characters were lining up to continue the series, but weren’t important to furthering the plot of this book. That being said, the character development of the main characters was subtle but noticeable. I was highlighting every little mention of hand-holding and forehead-kissing.
I’d recommend this to readers that like NA contemporary romance that’s part of a larger series. If you’re looking for a book full of intense trials and tribulations, this probably isn’t the book for you, but if you want a lighthearted, easy read to get you out of a reading slump, this would probably do the trick!
The Heart’s We’ve Broken was my first book read by the author H.K. Green and let me just say I was thoroughly pleased and will be adding more of her books to my TBR! And while this book can be read as a standalone, I wouldn’t recommend it. I feel like I missed out on the good back story of the characters that are woven into Mikey and Juniper’s story.
What happens when you mix fake dating x cowboy romance= a very good time. Juniper is a good girl who was done dirty by her ex-boyfriend and wants nothing more than a change of scenery. While Mikey is a bull rider on the way to being a world champion with a playboy reputation and his friends don’t believe he can maintain a long term relationship. Mikey just happens to be Juniper’s ex’s favorite bull rider and a fling of her ex-best friend. Mikey and Juniper end up agreeing to a fake romance, neither of them knowing the true reason they’re entering into the agreement so easily.
“You.” He kissed the spot he had bitten. “Are.” His lips found the nape of my neck. “My.” My head turned toward him, and he murmured against my lips, “Undoing.”
Thank you to the author for my arc copy! 🤎

By far the worst book I've read this year. Dialogue read like a middle school fan fiction. Characters fell extremely flat. Absolutely no plot development. And most impressively, this author managed to make me not enjoy ANY character in the story.
Thank you to H K Green for this ARC 👢 This is book 3 in The Road and The Rodeo Series. I hadn't read books 1 and 2 so I did read those before I read the ARC.
The Hearts We've Broken focuses on Mikey and Juniper. From books 1 and 2, I actually didn't think I was going to warm to Mikey but I couldn't have been more wrong! He's now my favourite from all three books 🥰🤠
The depth that he has, that wasn't shown before, just goes to show how you should never take the cocky, outgoing and promiscuous guy at face value. He has the biggest heart and Juniper really brought that out in him ✨️
I really rooted for Mikey and Juniper and their story left my heart so warm ❤️
Out of her The Road and the Rodeo Series, this one is my absolute favorite book and couple. Mikey is a goofy bull riding womanizer who has self image issues and isnt as confident as I previously thought. Juniper is a woman scorned and out for revenge on her ex-boyfriend AND ex-bestfriend.
Both characters are super easy to love and are relatively relatable. The issues both Mikey and Juniper face are issues people can relate to, the pressure of a public appearance or moving on from a horrible break-up.
The story's pacing was perfect, H.K Green has this way of making her time flow and you are none the wiser that a full month has passed throughout 4 chapters. Its so effortless. The relationships she creates are never rushed and flow and build through out the story
This was such a cute little cowboy read! She wanted to get back at her ex bsf/ex & he needed a gf to win some free land. I love the found family between all his friends & how close they all are, I also loved the vibes between Mikey & Juniper how they’re like friends who really care about each other even before they caught real feelings.
