Jace Walker doesn’t believe in second chances—not for himself, and definitely not for love. Scarred by war, haunted by heartbreak, and numbed by a string of one-night stands, Jace is the kind of man you don’t try to fix. He’s not a romantic, he’s a survivor. But when a fearless woman named Savannah storms into his life—and his bed—Jace is forced to confront the ghosts he’s tried so hard to bury.
What starts as a no-strings night quickly unravels into something deeper. Something dangerous. Especially when Savannah turns out to be the sheriff’s daughter.
From violent run-ins and bar fights to whispered voices and wounds that don’t heal, Jace walks a tightrope between the past he can’t outrun and the future he doesn’t think he deserves.
Surrounded by the women who try to love him—and the ones who never stopped—Jace must keep running from everything… or finally face what broke him in the first place.
A gritty, emotionally raw tale of trauma, redemption, and the kind of love that doesn't ask you to be perfect—just real.
Fred Sesma's When Cowboys Break offers an unpredictable reading experience. Despite the back cover's synopsis, I was surprised. The book's emotional range is impressive, spanning anger, sadness, laughter, and grief. The narrative's emotional intensity was, at times, nearly unbearable. I formed a strong connection with Jace, experiencing his emotions firsthand.
I like when a book makes me feel what they are feeling. But, I was truly unprepared at the depths of emotions!
When Cowboys Break is an emotional journey that I flew through. On one hand, it's a romance that's written in such a way that there isn't only clear path to happiness initially, which I found to be refreshing. Then there are these heavy themes of redemption, family, and allowing love into your life both from others and from within yourself. I feel like many different readers would pick up this book and be satisfied with their reading experience. I look forward to reading more from the author!
It’s definitely not your average cozy romance. This one is real, gritty, and heartfelt. I could feel Jace’s brokenness that had him spiraling the wrong way and the slow tugs pulling him back in had me all choked up. Gripping story that you don’t want to put down.
I loved how real and raw the characters in this book felt. The MMC comes across like someone you could actually know in real life, his flaws, his emotions, and the way he grows throughout the story all felt so authentic. His emotional journey was written with such depth that it pulled me in and kept me invested from start to finish. If you’re into books that are raw, emotional, and a little gritty, this one will definitely hit the mark.
As women, we read millions of Romances focused on women's perspective of the trauma of a broken relationship. We often forget that men feel the same kind of loss, even more so in different ways. I wish there were more stories focused on the mans perspective of the Romances and how they are affected by loss, heart break and what they need to heal as well. This is absolutely a MUST read. 🥃 Thank you for sharing your story Fred!💋♥️
Such an emotional read! This isn’t your typical cowboy romance, there’s so much depth to Jayce’s character. When Cowboys Break is about a man that is barely hanging on. Loss and heartbreak have consumed him and he is struggling to carry on. My heart hurt for him, I wanted to reach into the pages and comfort him but no amount of consoling will help unto you allow yourself to heal. This has a HEA, just not the one I was hoping for.
Jace's story was emotional. And by that, you feel them all: heartache, frustration, sadness. The writing is passionate and gritty. If I had to pick one quote (which was hard), it would be this one: "There was a peace in repetition. Salvation in the sweat".
5⭐ Read without a doubt Such A Beautiful story..... 🤠😭 Real raw and emotional that will leave you with a tear or two shed. I love the poetic style of writing Fred captures.
