Shadows Have Gone

Carly and Justin and the rest of the community seem to be safe for the moment. Marcus and his gang are all dead. But it seems that there is still a threat to them, a man from Justin's past...
This is the first book in the series that I have read and I'm a bit surprised how is it was to get into the story and to get to know the characters even though the book seems to pick up precisely where the book before left off. Carly and Justin and the people in the community they are living in are all survivors of a terrible virus that have killed off most of the human race. They are doing the best to live in a world that is just a shadow of itself. Gone are all the comforts of the modern world. But at least, they have in this little community each other and they will fight for it.
My plan was to read the previous books before I read this one, but the time ran out. It's funny how months to read books suddenly can disappear and suddenly you only have days left. But it was as I started before easy to get into the book and I immediately got caught up in the story and it wasn't that hard to begin to care for the characters and hoping for their survival. The ending was a bit nerve wracking I must admit, I never thought that the story would take that turn especially when you think about how they all had fought for a future. But it was a good ending.
This was a really good dystopian book and I'm looking forward to reading the books before this one.

I laughed, I cried, I was gently amused, but what could I expect? Times are tough, no one is trustworthy and yet there is a sweet innocence about some characters that hit you right between the eyes; they are always so positive and wanting to see the best in others. Once again, Lissa Bryan has taken the handoff from a previous book and run with it at breakneck speeds with barely a misstep in sight! Shadows Have Gone is the third book of her The End of All Things series, and you know what? I read book one, didn’t’ read book two and STILL remembered the characters, remembered how they were and can see who they have become. Pure chance or great writing on the part of a gifted author? I don’t believe in chance, soooo…that leaves the talent of Lissa Bryan.
Carly and Justin have seen and lived through more evil than anyone should ever have to. Carly has gone from an innocent to a survivor, doing things she never thought she could or would. She is learning to stand on her own two feet and not rely so heavily on others. Sadly, they are all learning not to trust anyone else completely, because survival, fear and anger brings out both the best and the worst in people and the groove they have cut out for themselves is once again, being threatened. What is so special about those she loves around her? What secrets have been shadowed to protect her from a selfless truth that could destroy her?

Happy Release Day!!!
Oh my gosh. I've been anxiously awaiting this final book in The End of All Things series. And I can say: This was worth the wait!
We pick right up where The Land of the Shadows ended. There's a military truck driving right up to them. I, just like Carly did, thought: Wow! They are saved! Finally, there's and end to food shortages and they can surely get more medical supplies!
Dang that Justin...he made her hold back...and well he did.
There isn't an easy fix in this brave, new world. And while that would have been great, Carly and Justin can bring their people through the shadows. It's hard, but it can be done.
I did laugh at several points. Like when Justin remembered he was DOOMED from the first time he saw Carly. There was no way he wasn't going to fall for her. I also laughed when she remembered it was Monday, and therefore, wash day. So much easier here in my house to throw a load of wash into a washer that is powered by electricity and then I'm able to put it into a DRYER!
Then Ms. Bryan made me cry. Because this new world has some harsh realities. And while one can get past some of those realities, hearts will hurt. And mine surely did.
Once again, if I were in this situation, I would really want Justin and Carly on my side. Justin is a total warrior, but while her strengths are different, Carly is just as strong, maybe even stronger than he is.
The last several chapters of this story had me on the edge of my seat, rushing through each page to the end, my heart clenching in my chest. The payoff was worth it.
There's hope in these characters. I would hope that if something like the Infection happened, that humanity would rise above the carnage, just like these people did. While none of them are superheroes, they did overcome. That's what I'd hope for in this kind of future.
Frankly, I loved Shadows Have Gone. And now I want more from Ms. Bryan. I don't think I can get enough of her words. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for adventure, mystery, a bit of romance, some humor, and a series to sink your teeth into. Well done, Ms. Bryan!

Lissa Bryan has done it again! And by “it” I mean made me laugh, cry, sob uncontrollably, and then take a huge cleansing breath. I finished the final book in her “Then End of All Things” trilogy last night, “Shadows Have Gone”, and am suffering a bit of a book hangover today. Let me just say this series is one that I will think back on for years to come, and is one that I tell all my friends about. If you enjoy thought provoking, suspenseful, romantic stories that include strong friendships, communities, and families this series is for you. I do encourage the books to be read in order, as each follows the same two characters on their journey to find their place in a post-apocalyptic world.
“Shadows Have Gone” starts out exactly where “The Land of Shadow” leaves off. I don’t want to give anything away so the synopsis I give will be brief. Essentially the town of Colby has been under threat, and in the aftermath of neutralizing that threat the town is coming to terms with not only devastating loss, but also the emotional ramifications of each of their actions. We see Justin and Carly’s relationship continue to evolve, and this book focuses heavily on Carly’s strength and overall leadership. In contrast we begin to see the more vulnerable side of Justin, which I think rounded out the story perfectly. The secondary characters also continue to play a huge role in this final book of the series. The first half of the book finds the characters re-establishing a new norm in the town of Colby so although the pace of the book isn’t slow, it is very detailed in day-to-day life. The second half of the book had my heart racing, and tears flowing. I will say that the book doesn’t end with the world in perfect harmony, all tied up with a pretty little bow. If it did the story wouldn’t feel nearly as authentic as it does, and Lissa Bryan is a very authentic author.
This series has been so enjoyable but it isn’t a fluffy read. It is thought-provoking, intense at times, and emotional. “Shadows Have Gone” was a wonderful and apt ending to a series that is a must read for any fan of dystopian or post-apocalyptic fiction. This was a five star book in a five star series. Go! Read! You won’t be disappointed.

This was an extremely easy book to follow through. You really couldn't even tell it was book 3 in a series. I didn't feel lost at all while reading it.
The story started out very strong. I really thought as I started reading this was going to be a 5 star knock out. But something happened about 60% into it and it started to trail off.
I'm not sure what it was exactly but something started to diminish, and I think it was that things started to feel rushed.
I get that the world has pretty much come to a halt and life sucks and now Carly has to help rebuild the civilization with Justin. But that doesn't mean you have to speed through everything. And then with the predictable ending, when so much hadn't been predictable, was disappointing.
All that being said I still really enjoyed the story. I liked the characters, I liked the personalities of everyone. I would deff read another book by Ms. Bryan, and I am curious as to what the first two books of this series were about.
So since I wouldn't mind going back to the beginning and reading the start of this series, even though I know the ending, I'm giving this a 4 star. Because any book that makes me want to go back and start over, even with knowing the ending means something there was worth while and I gotta show it respect.

Third book in the series in the aftermath of 'The Infection'.
Carly and Justin are returning to Colby when they see a military vehicle. Carly thinks it is there to save them and provide new medical supplies, Justin is a little more reserved about it. They have had to learn not to trust people completely . Fear of the unknown and the need to survive doesn’t always bring out the best in people.
Carly has had to change from an innocent girl into someone who does what she has to, in order to survive. Things she could never have imagined before.
They try to establish a fresh new life in Colby- but are they facing new threats that they haven’t recognised? The book becomes a real page turner- just what is going to happen to everyone in Colby? It takes you on a real emotional journey, holding your breath at times wondering how things will work out for all of the characters.
I love the cover to this book- it would make me pick it up to read more even though I am not really a dystopian reader. It's made me curious to read more in this genre and by this author.

I enjoyed it as much as the first book. I read most of it this morning as I could skim the "flashback" dreams (the benefits of reading the series back to back). While I really liked the characters I don't know if I was fully emotionally attached to them or perhaps, like the characters, I was numbed by all the death.
I know this an ARC, but I do so hope they caught the "wiped the back of his/her forehead" references.

Wow, this was so good, it made my heart break and it kept me on the edge of my seat. I wasn't sure where else this story could go but go it did, and it went somewhere amazing.

INITIAL THOUGHTS
I've been highly anticipating this one, as the last book, The Land Of The Shadow ended on a major cliff hanger! So what would I wish for the much loved characters of this series? I truly want Carly & Justin, & their family & community to be safe, but I guess that wouldn't perhaps make an interesting read lol. I am looking forward to catching up with all the characters and their trials and tribulations."
MY REVIEW
The cover of this book shows Carly and Justin hand in hand walking through derelict buildings, with Sam, Carly's wolf, behind them as always on guard and watching for any danger. Carly and Justin have their backs to us walking forward, which fits this book as both Justin, Carly and the Colby community are heading forward and are making progress with their lives, their relationships and their crops and more. Would the cover make me want to pick this book up in a book store? Yes, I would want to know about their journey, and what had happened to the buildings around them.
I can honestly say that I have slipped right back into this book, instantly remembering what had happened and who every one was. Just as we feel a little relief for our settlers, danger looms once again. Another new entity to be feared? I guess I'll find out as I read more of the book.
So the Colby people have done what had to be done to protect their little community, and are heading back to Colby when they see a military vehicle approaching them. Carly ever the optimist immediately jumps to the conclusion it's the army and finally they will be "saved". Justin however quickly see's through the military image and speaks to the male from the vehicle. He agrees to leave a note and to come back and check on the note with a view to meeting the "head of the military" at some point. Justin is the more cautious and doesn't reveal the exact location of Colby or how small/large a settlement they are. Carly is initially very angry with Justin for bursting her illusion of finally being saved, but soon realises that a klot of the points Justin makes are sensible. In fact Carly goes from initial euphoria of being saved and wanting to go with the military man, to being extremely suspicious and not wanting to have anything at all to do with the new "military people".
We finally meet Lewis in this book, the man who saved lives by sending out vaccinations. Lewis wants to speak to Justin, but Justin wants nothing to do with him. Bryce the radio ham of the Colby settlement hears a message for Justin and still Justin refuses to meet and talk......Justin does realise he will have to face Lewis at some point.
Veronica is still a handful, but has lovingly cared for the little bulldog puppy we met in the last book. However she still has a problem with not straying too far from Colby and its boundaries. It's whilst looking for Veronica that Carly is taken. . . . . a sure way to gain Justin's attention.
Mindy is pregnant, and whilst listening for the heartbeat of the baby, Stacey is shocked to hear two heartbeat's, but there is no way she can confirm Mindy is having twins as they do not have access to the necessary "Before" equipment. It's a case of waiting until the birth. They do however prepare for an early birth, which turns out to be useful. Anything medical is still a struggle with a dwindling supply of drugs, the Colby citizens are resorting to more natural and herbal mixtures to help with everyday illnesses. There are always worries for both the young with no inoculations against what would once be thought of as minor diseases such as chicken pox, and measles. Then again for the older generation, such as pain medications are no longer plentiful or the more complicated things like heart operations, and pacemakers or even blood transfusions.
So much happens in this book, I've tried to share some of them without revealing too much. I hope I have succeeded. Shadows Have Gone is full of ups and downs. The "ups" being victoriously returning to Colby, Mindy being pregnant, possibly with twins. The "downs" being the death of Kross in the fight right at the end of The Land Of The Shadow. Kaden, Carly & Justin's adopted son takes the death of Kross heavily but shows great maturity in how he handles the burial and final resting place of his friend. There is also another death in Colby that touches on everyone's life, a great matriarchal figure is lost. One who was heavily depended on and referred to for opinions regularly. Illness also features in this book, once again no one is safe. How can you fight an invisible force? Colby's numbers increase, only to decrease due to this illness. Who lives on? and who do we have to say a sad goodbye to.
I loved this book from the first page to the last. There is one point, which you will know to what I am referring when you reach it that had me shouting "No, no, no!" at my tablet as I read. I definitely read late into the night with this book and became quite frustrated when I had to put it down.
So did I enjoy the book? I totally loved it. I really didn't want the book to end. I will have to say once again what a twist. And thank goodness for the twist. (You'll know what I mean when you read the book!) Would I recommend the book? Yes I highly recommend this book and the whole series! It's right at the top of the list of my favourite series. Would I want to read another book in this series? Yes please as soon as it's available! If it were available to read now I would have picked it straight up as I finished this one! Would I want to read other titles by this Author? I haven't read anything else by Lissa yet but, I would certainly read more my this author.

Mindy is pregnant, and whilst listening for the heartbeat of the baby, Stacey is shocked to hear two heartbeat's, but there is no way she can confirm Mindy is having twins as they do not have access to the necessary "Before" equipment. It's a case of waiting until the birth. They do however prepare for an early birth, which turns out to be useful. Anything medical is still a struggle with a dwindling supply of drugs, the Colby citizens are resorting to more natural and herbal mixtures to help with everyday illnesses. There are always worries for both the young with no inoculations against what would once be thought of as minor diseases such as chicken pox, and measles. Then again for the older generation, such as pain medications are no longer plentiful or the more complicated things like heart operations, and pacemakers or even blood transfusions.
So much happens in this book, I've tried to share some of them without revealing too much. I hope I have succeeded. Shadows Have Gone is full of ups and downs. The "ups" being victoriously returning to Colby, Mindy being pregnant, possibly with twins. The "downs" being the death of Kross in the fight right at the end of The Land Of The Shadow. Kaden, Carly & Justin's adopted son takes the death of Kross heavily but shows great maturity in how he handles the burial and final resting place of his friend. There is also another death in Colby that touches on everyone's life, a great matriarchal figure is lost. One who was heavily depended on and referred to for opinions regularly. Illness also features in this book, once again no one is safe. How can you fight an invisible force? Colby's numbers increase, only to decrease due to this illness. Who lives on? and who do we have to say a sad goodbye to.
I loved this book from the first page to the last. There is one point, which you will know to what I am referring when you reach it that had me shouting "No, no, no!" at my tablet as I read. I definitely read late into the night with this book and became quite frustrated when I had to put it down.
So did I enjoy the book? I totally loved it. I really didn't want the book to end. I will have to say once again what a twist. And thank goodness for the twist. (You'll know what I mean when you read the book!) Would I recommend the book? Yes I highly recommend this book and the whole series! It's right at the top of the list of my favourite series. Would I want to read another book in this series? Yes please as soon as it's available! If it were available to read now I would have picked it straight up as I finished this one! Would I want to read other titles by this Author? I haven't read anything else by Lissa yet but, I would certainly read more my this author.

It's a hard go to write a trilogy. Each book has to have its own story, and there has to be a bigger story carried through all three books that concludes at the end. It's a balancing act. It's a tapestry. It's a perfectly-timed feast served to a large family.
Lissa Bryan, in Shadows Have Gone, concluded her The End of All Things Trilogy with artistic balance, with perfect timing.
In Bryan's dystopian world, the one that has developed since the Infection, people have had to learn to live in less sheltered ways. Necessity breeds blunt pragmatism.
Because there had been a battle, you see, and the people of Colby, where Bryan has established her characters' home in this trilogy, are civilized and aren't going to leave death just lying around.
In fact, their society has brought to the fore examples of selflessness and insight that make books like this haunting reading.
We ask ourselves, how does a young man come to think such things? How can he quote Beowulf over a cairn? But he can and he does.
Bryan shows a very natural pattern in this final book of her trilogy. There's conflict between those who want to Just Relax Already after the altercations and tragedies of the last book and those who want to Investigate Possible Future Problems to keep an eye on things.
Carly, Our Heroine, is one of the former while her husband, Justin, is firmly in the camp of the latter. This makes for a domestic tension in their home. Also in their home, though, is the playful amusement new parents will recognize as Carly and Justin try to angle for some alone time while there's a baby in house, a young man they've adopted into their family, and a slew of Colby-ites who need one or the other of them for something.
And, of course, Bryan keeps the balance. Because while this is happening, trouble is brewing. Names from the first book are coming back to engage themselves in our awareness. Carly gets in a dangerous circumstance.
Calamity strikes.
I can't tell you the nature of that calamity, but I will say it totally works for me. This book has its own Big Bad and once again Our Hero and Heroine have to handle it.
Believe in Lissa Bryan's storytelling, though. She makes it work all the way to the last page.
Really, I'm sitting here working very hard NOT to tell you what happens. So go, read this trilogy. It's a blunt but hopeful adventure into a future I would rather never, ever see happen.

Shadows Have Gone by Lyssa Bryan is the third book in The End of All Things trilogy, a story about what’s left of the human race – and humanity – after a pandemic infection sweeps the world. Most people died, some lingered with their minds burned by fever in a zombie-like state.
I didn’t read the first two books, but as a fan of post-apocalyptic stories and the struggle to survive after these events, I decided to read this one. I definitely want to go back and read the others. I enjoyed Ms Bryan’s writing style and expect I’d appreciate reading them both. Additionally, her grammar is clean and readable. There were some formatting issues with the NetGalley version I received for this review, but I doubt they exist in the final version.
My only complaint with Shadows Have Gone is that it starts very slowly. Maybe it wouldn’t have felt that way if I already had a connection with some of the characters and cared about their back story. But the first 65% of the book is comprised of looks into some of the characters’ past and just day-to-day routines. At 65%, the real story begins and there are new challenges.
I love how strong Carly’s character is and I did enjoy the looks back at where she started and how Justin helped find the diamond-hard woman beneath. I was worried about the ending (as I should be!) but it was great. The world felt very complete and well-imagined. I would recommend to those who’ve read the previous books and if you haven’t, then go get them first and then read this one.
I rate this at 3.5 stars and I’m dithering on whether to round up or down. That first half was slow, but I’m glad I stuck with it. Go with that warning and enjoy the rest!

You know those books that you pick up but you're just not sure you're going to like. You know, the ones that you've never heard of the author, you kind of like the cover, and the premise seems okay so you take the chance, pretty much expecting to put it down after a chapter or two? I have to admit that's how I felt when I first picked up this series. I'm not really a "dystopian" kind of person. I like my books to have some angst, but nothing that makes me really uncomfortable. I prefer the love story with the hot sex and the happy ending.
When I read the The End of All Things I was amazed. I was drawn in from the first page and couldn't put it down. It was one of the first books I ever reviewed. I had to wait MONTHS for the second book, The Land of the Shadow, but once I got it I couldn't put it down. Once again, I wanted more and more and begged the author to hurry up. Well, I finally got book 3, Shadows Have Gone and I continue to be amazed. Lissa Bryan takes a horrible, unimaginable situation and brings it to life in a way that gives you a sense of being there with the characters. Can you have a book boyfriend when the entire story is about the end of the world? I say you can and Justin definitely qualifies. Carly's strength is unmatched by any character I've ever read. Sam is my absolute favorite. There's no way this story would survive without that wonderful wolf.
I encourage you to take a chance on this series if you haven't already. The love story will blow your mind and I guarantee you'll be forever changed for the better when you're done. 5+++++ mustaches!

This third book in the series picked up immediately after the second book ended. It jumped right into the action, but there were enough recaps spread out over the first few chapters to help me remember everything important from the previous books.
This story surprised me with how dark it was. There was quite a bit of death in this book, including some characters that I felt I knew and liked. It was powerful, and really highlight how uncertain and unsafe a post catastrophe world would be.
One thing that I really enjoyed in this book was the sense of community. There many have been rough living conditions, in an uncertain world, but it was really heartwarming to see how everyone pulled together. As leaders, Justin and Carly were quite effective at matching people’s strengths up to create the strongest community possible.

Shadows have gone was a great end to The End of All Things trilogy. Ms. Bryan brought us back to the love story between Carly and Justin. As a reader I was able to witness their love while they build their community stronger and fight off threats. This family of four have been through so much, but the vision of a new better world is always in Carly’s mind. I love how she always talks about fate and Justin finally ends up believing in everything has happened because of fate.
Carly and Justin both had many flashbacks throughout the story, remembering times they had before they came to Colby. I think that added to all the emotion that I felt through the last 30% of the book and boy was I put through the ringer. I hardly ever cry during stories, but this one had me shedding many tears. I did not expect something to happen the way they did.
I like how I finally got some answers in the end and although I still had more, I am satisfied how everything ended. I just wish this series wasn’t over! I know I will now be looking for more books by Lissa Bryan!

What a great conclusion to this series! I don't normally read dystopian but this book hooked me from the first one and hasn't let me down yet.
I enjoy reading about how they are surviving, basically going back and using basic skills from the pioneers and mixed with some current knowledge. I'm not sure if I could do all this, but if my life depended on it I would definitely give it 110%.
There is one part near the end that made me sad but there was a twist to the story, in a good way but it makes you realize that maybe all hope is not lost for this world.
I enjoyed continuing with the personal story between Carly and Justin. I know they love each other buy man are they both stubborn and hard headed....almost to their own detriment.

It’s been two years since a flu-like plague decimated humanity and brought Carly and Justin together, and the fact that they are still alive is something of a miracle. Having established themselves in a small island community with a small collection of other makeshift families of survivors, life isn’t easy, but they’re getting by. Only it seems they’ve attracted the attention of what’s left of the military, the same people Justin knew in his former life and who seem to be responsible for the destruction of mankind. And the tough but mostly peaceful life they’ve carved out for themselves is now threatened.
The Verdict: After the ending of The Land of the Shadow, I was dying to get my hands on this one, and it did not disappoint!
Lots of things have changed since we first me Carly and Justin in The End of All Things, and Carly has grown up quite a bit. Now a mother and defacto leader in their small community, she no longer clings to ideas of the world before, instead working hard and doing whatever is necessary to make their communal lives just a little more bearable. But the presence of the military — or whatever is left of it — has Justin on edge, and it’s just a matter of time before they’re forced to confront the man responsible for both destroying the world and ensuring their survival.
Colby has been a bit of an oasis in the midst of disaster, but life there is by no means easy. There’s sickness and death, arguing and exhaustion, but they hold on to it as tightly as they can, determined to remain civilized without civilization. But even that small peace is shattered when Lewis, Justin’s former commander, begins reaching out to Justin, making it clear that he expects Justin to join him in whatever plan he has next. He’s not above threats — or following through with them — but Carly isn’t about to let anyone separate her family.
Obviously I don’t want to give away everything that happens, but I will say that it’s worth hanging onto every word. We see the rag-tag band from Colby step up and defend themselves and each other, we see Carly willing to walk through hell to ensure that everyone she cares about is safe, and we see Justin face his past and get a few of the answers we’ve all been waiting for.
In some ways, this book is darker than the others. Where in the previous books, we looked toward a future where they could settle down, raise their small family, and experience some semblance of normalcy and safety, in Shadows Have Gone, they’ve found exactly that, but it doesn’t automatically come with a happy ending. Survival is always at stake, and even in what is probably one of the safest situations any humans are experiencing, outside threats constantly loom. When it all came to a head, I honestly couldn’t imagine how everything could possibly be okay in the end, and I was ready to throw my Kindle down and have a bit of a tantrum. But I should have known that Lissa Bryan would come through with a realistic, believable resolution that had my heart retreating from it’s hideout in my throat.
I love well-written dystopian stories, but I so rarely find them. And in series, it’s not uncommon for me to begin losing interest by the time the last piece of the story is published. But this series is different, and while even the characters often want to just sit back and relax for a few minutes now that they think they’ve survived the worst of things, I was itching to turn the pages and find out what would happen next. The tension is undeniable, even in what should be simple day-to-day events, and when the big drama came, somehow it seemed so fitting that the story almost couldn’t be told without it. Shadows Have Gone really is the perfect ending to an incredible series, and while I think any of the books can be read alone, you’re missing all kinds of amazing if you don’t grab them all.

Finally... the series comes to and end, and what a rollercoaster it has been.
Picking up exactly where book two leaves off, we find Carly being her usual hopeful self, whilst Justin is naturally cautious. He knows there's no easy fix to the world they are adapting to survive in. Having said that, their small town/settlement are doing more than just surviving, they are actually living.
Throughout this book, all of the characters have hard decisions to make, ones that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. They also, especially the younger characters, learn some very important lessons, which in some ways, only an apocalyptic or dystopian world can teach. Such as Kaden losing his best friend. I expected him to crumble, but he doesn't. This sad event helps him begin to open up to Carly more too, which is wonderful to read.
One of my favourite moments throughout the entire book was the conversation between Carly and Pearl. Throughout the first two books, I was suspicious of Pearl. I never knew why, and half expected her to turn on them all. I think I felt this way because it becomes clear that Pearl doesn't trust herself. Due to events in her past, she has become closed off and almost cold, not allowing herself to grow close to anyone. Her back story is heartbreaking, but finally talking about it proves how strong she is, to herself.
While I laughed, especially at Justin's flashbacks, I spent most of the second half of this book with tears in my eyes. The past catches up with Justin, and for a while he thinks he can ignore it, but he knows it won't last forever. Once he realises this, and decides to meet it head on, I had my heart in my mouth. I knew what I wanted to happen, but naturally, in this harsh world, things are never easy.
Shadows have Gone is the perfect ending to an amazing series. I hope there are more stories in this world, because I'm not quite ready to let them go. Justin and Carly's story may be over(ish) for now, but there are other characters I would love to know more about, and how they arrived in Colby.

This is the last book in this series of stand alone books and is called Shadows Have Gone. In this book we finally get to meet Justin's X-commanding officer Lewis, from when he was in the forces who just had held in high regard until he found out that he'd (Lewis) had been responsible for the vaccines that had protected he, Carly and their friends from the Infection. Meeting Lewis introduces the reader to the fact that the Infection has re-established itself again and both Justin and Lewis have it. When Justin finds out that he has the infection again while meeting with Lewis he decides to shut him and lewis up in one of the buildings on the gas plant where he's set up a base and blow it up but as in all good books he doesn't pull the trigger out of the granade to blow the facility up and then survives the infection as well.
In the mean time Colby suffers another outbreak of the infection but most of the inhabitants survive it. One of the ones who doesn't survive it is Mindys' baby daughter which leads Mindy to question her faith.
I thoroughly enjoyed every single one of these books and the main books although they were Standalone stories all intertwined with one another seamlessly but were still wonderful lone reads.

This... This is how a book should end.
I have to admit, I lost interest after reading half of The End of All Things' grand series finale. It might be because I became insanely hooked on the trilogy and read the first two books in such a hurry, and couldn't get enough, but Shadows Have Gone sort of plateaued until about the half way mark. All is well, however. I recommend everyone push through it because it's a damned of a well thought-out ride.
I don't think I've ever shed as many tears as I have for so many pages at a time. This entire dystopian trilogy is credible, heart wrenchingly good, clever, and worth every page. It's filled with ups and downs, but the message of hope and love is so strong, that it leaves you with faith that you can push through anything.

Very well constructed with memorable moments and characters you won't soon forget. I like the flow of this book and the interactions between characters as they have an authentic feel to them. The plot is intriguing and pulls in the reader bit by bit. While not a short read it felt like it was over all too soon. I received an e-arc in exchange for an honest review which in no way influenced my opinion.

What a crazy ride. I don't think I've ever devoured a book, let alone a series this fast. I literally couldn't read fast enough and was beyond upset when someone interrupted me. Lol. My poor family. This series was amazing and I recommend it to anyone who wants to read a story about survival, loss, hope, and above all love. Life isn't easy in this apocalyptic tale. It's actually really hard and at times it was hard to read buts it's worth it!

I am hoping Ms. Bryan gives us a follow up to this book. I would love to know how all my friends are doing. After reading the three (+1) novels I have come to really care for these people and animals.

Argumento:
Carly Daniels sabe lo que es sufrir una pérdida. Sabe lo que es sacrificarse. En los dos años transcurridos desde que un virus pandémico, conocido simplemente como la Infección, diezmó a la humanidad, ha tomado decisiones que jamás podría haber imaginado. Ha tolerado la violencia en nombre de la paz y ha hecho lo impensable en nombre de la misericordia. Pero con Justin a su lado, también ha aprendido que no hay nada que no pueda enfrentar ni nada que no haría para proteger a sus seres queridos.
Pero ahora ha llegado otra amenaza en la forma de un hombre uniformado que conduce un camión del ejército, que dice representar a lo que queda del ejército estadounidense. Alguien ha puesto la mira en su comunidad... y en Justin. La lucha por defender su pequeña patria está lejos de terminar, y los visitantes pueden haber traído consigo más peligro que solo sus armas.

Mi humilde opinión:
Carly, Justin y los demás defendieron Colby de la amenaza de Marcus y sus hombres. Ganaron pero perdieron a un miembro de su comunidad y alguien del pasado de Justin ha regresado por él.
Esta serie tiene sus altibajos, cosas malas suceden pero también buenas. Me alegró mucho que Mindy y Stan por fin tuvieran un bebe, mellizos, era algo que deseaban y pensaron que no iba a suceder después del virus. No fue justo lo que les pasó luego, me enojó mucho! No podía creer que el virus atacara de nuevo! Fue desesperante!
Me sorprendieron las revelaciones, todo el tema con el jefe de Justin, Lewis. Pensé que Lewis en verdad estaba loco, cuál era el plan después del virus que ellos liberaron causando la muerte de tantas personas? Por qué lo hicieron? Me enojaba mucho este hombre y las cosas que decía. Y qué hacia detrás de un escritorio como si el mundo no hubiera cambiado?
Lo que me gustó de la serie es el amor y la lealtad que tenían Carly y Justin por el otro, como evolucionan desde el primer libro como personajes. Pasaron por mucho en su viaje pero eran fuertes estando juntos.
Los últimos capítulos fueron muy estresantes, por un momento odie lo que estaba pasando, no podía tener un mal final! menos mal que la autora no me defraudó y cuando Carly vuelve a ver a Justin, me lloré todo!
A pesar de los momentos duros, el drama y las injusticias, disfruté mucho la trilogía.
