Written by someone who KNOWS social media. Great price. Gave me plenty to think about and implement. Makes me cringe when I think back to how I started my Beachbody business years ago . . . fumbling around social media like a screaming billboard! Highly suggest this for my entire TEAM!
Pas banget dibaca sama yang suka social media / yang pengin mendalami dunia social media. Kim Garst membeberkan tips-tips dan kunci sukses dalam membangun komunikasi di sosial media lewat buku ini.
Wow, this book spoke to me on so many levels that I could have written it myself. But who am I kidding? I don’t have such extensive experience and knowledge like Kim possesses. The message of “Will The Real You Please Stand Up?” was definitely something close to my heart. I feel that authenticity means everything in the online world. You could have dismissed her message saying that it’s naive, utopian, and that the guys with big bucks always win in the end. However, I can’t say this. I started my first-ever online business in May 2013. I had zero knowledge, zero authority, zero skills, and no connections. But I was authentic. And I still am. My business continues to grows. I earned about $4.5k in 2014. Until the 28th of April 2015, I earned $5.9k. It works. If a guy who hadn’t seen a webinar till November 2012 could do that, anybody can. It’s just enough to be yourself. Confirmed by Experience
So everything that Kim teaches, I found true by my own experience. I’m far from viral success (although I managed to get my tweet retweetted by a rock star with 2 million followers―that day, my traffic increased more than 100 times). James Arthur's tweet I am a solopreneur, so I just don’t have time for fancy techniques on social media.
Your brand is you. — Jeff Goins, You Are A Writer
Time. Do you know how much time authenticity saves? I don’t have to wonder what I have said in the past and if it’s congruent with my brand. I AM my brand. When I’m authentic, it takes no effort to spread my message. I work hard to one day be free from the 9 to 5 grind. Maybe then, I will be able to go bigger with my marketing. But if authenticity works so well when I have no time and resources to commit to my marketing, I’m excited to think what will happen when I will finally give it proper attention. No Headache
If anything, I think Kim didn’t emphasize enough how much a headache authenticity spares you. It works even when you are not a nice guy/gal. I know an internet marketer who is simply a jerk, but he doesn’t hide it. It’s clearly visible in the contempt he emanates when talking about people who are “not ready” to listen to his bright advice. However, people still flock to him. There are people who like to think independently and there are those who like to be told what to think and how to spend their money. Of course I also know people who genuinely care about their audience and it seems that more (and better) people flock to them. But the basic message of “Will The Real You Please Stand Up?” is not to be nice, but to be yourself.
I liked the book a lot. And do you know what the best part is? Those who will dismiss this message and keep trying to move their businesses forward using smoke and mirrors will be left behind in a short, few years. As Kim repeated many times, people are not idiots. Years of massive media attack on our perspective have made us wary and sharp in discovering duplicity.
'In the words of Mother Teresa, “Honesty and transparency make you vulnerable. Be honest and transparent anyway.”'
"When you choose to let the real you stand up in social media, you open yourself up to criticism, misinterpretation, and other unintended negative consequences."
"Successful social media marketing is not built on “impressions.” It is built on relationships."
If you are looking to learn more about how to market anything online in today's social networking world you have found what you are looking for in "Will The Real You Please Stand Up" by Kim Garst. This book is filled with invaluable information about how social networking works as well as many examples of what doesn't work, which can be just as critical for you to know so you can avoid the no-nos.
Just as being authentic with those you are physically in contact with on a regular basis is the key to how strong that relationship is, if it will grow or if it will just fade away, the same applies to your social networking relationships. People, and potentially customers, can tell when you, individually, or as a business are being "real" or authentic in your communications with them.
If you determine "they" are not authentic there is little chance of you doing any business with them or sharing their blog, company or product positively with your friends and others you come in contact with in your social networking sphere of influence (what is the word-of-mouth marketing that is coveted by all businesses).
If that sounds like a new concept for you or one that may not be new that you need to learn more about, get your copy of this book today! You will learn something that will help you in your social networking endeavors whether you are trying to sell anything or just improve your online presence and reach.
From the forward, "So why did I write this book? There are lots of reasons, but there is one underlying reason that really pushed me: I think there is a better way to use social media and market online!" The author makes a good case and supports it with her experience and experiences, both good and bad, from companies you will know such as Starbucks, Snapple, Zappos, and Ford to name a few.
There is a better way. Get your copy today and learn this better way for yourself.
Authenticity. It's all the rage in 2019. In 2014 when this book was written, it was excellent advice which still holds true today.
However, the book cannot help but feel dated by the use of platforms which are no longer in service (I am thinking of Google+ here), but the 'big 4' (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest) are still highly relevant.
The book's discussion of what is authentic is useful, though not overly detailed, and its discussion of heritage vs history was particularly relevant. There were a number of anecdotes of how not to do good social media marketing, as well as some excellent advice on how to be good at it - in terms of engagement, responsiveness, etc. However, much of this is covered in the numerous blogs on social media marketing these days.
The one star that I removed was because the book felt too corporate. A lot of the case studies and analysis were for bigger brands, or for brands which became big. The dynamics of these brands are very different to the small business so the latter half of the book felt less relevant. Especially since the majority of the big-brand case studies tended to do the opposite of what the book outlined as 'good practice' in the first part. While this was interesting to see how these global brands do social, it wasn't very relevant to the small business owner.
Overall a good book with much of relevance for today, though I would say you could get a good part of the learning from blogs and other sources.
7.1 Billion people roaming the planet, with 10 Billion devices and over 2 Billion people use social media on a regular basis as their single source for news, to research anything, anywhere, anytime. While some may have seen bits and pieces of it coming, nobody could have foreseen how social media would influence our daily lives. Our world is bigger and more personalized than ever, with social media.
The media "Will The Real You Please Stand Up" is full of useful tips, tricks and insights, so to say a navigator through social media - written in a very refreshing style.
Kim did an great job of lining out some of the basics of execution in social media practices as well tactics to help you find your authentic voice and #BeYou! Now, I understand that social media will create a whole new shopping experience. The amount of consumers who "check-in" to places influenced by social media reflects the way of traditional trading and will change the way of advertising and consumers buying behavior.
I've been adopting many of the practices, seeing my social influence...and sales growing. Nothing is better than having engaged and satisfied users who send out personal product recommendations over their social networks to influence others!
Therefore, I highly recommend this media, it will change and enrich your life!
While I really liked the premise of this book, I felt like it wasn't all that valuable as a resource. There were some case studies, a lot of theory, but not much of the practical application you really need when it comes to social media. Everything seemed vague and relative rather than specific.
