Hat Trick #2.5

Hat Trick Overtime: Summer Camp

Rate this book
Simon and Alex, now between their junior and senior years at the University of Michigan, decide to put their jobs on hold for a month and take the opportunity to coach hockey at a summer camp for teenagers.

They have a cabin full of good players to work with and the focus is getting them ready to win the camp championship. One camper, sixteen-year-old Dylan, requests extra help because he needs to get a scholarship and the guys make it their mission to help him succeed.

With their best friend Leo along for the trip, Simon and Alex are set up for a great time at camp, until another coach tries to seduce them. How they respond to the unwanted advances, while balancing commitments to their campers, will put them both -- and their relationship -- to the test.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4.5 stars

I am a fan of “in between” additions when they serve to advance the larger series and Hat Trick 2.5 Summer Camp fits the bill. Both Alex and Simon are comfortable with their relationship, school, and work. Naturally outside forces will intrude on their seemingly perfect union and it was interesting to see both Alex and Simon’s reactions. We are so used to getting a HEA without further adversity or bumps in the road, and Summer Camp delivers a perfect little snippet of the boy’s lives before they return to the “real world.”

I am truly looking forward to the third book in the Hat Trick series and found that the events of Summer Camp help to bridge the gap between the end of school and the start of Alex and Simon’s working lives. A must read for fans of the Hat Trick series.

Writing was slightly better than the first two official novels, but the way the short story handled sexual harassment and attempted assault was poorly done.

It is enjoyable to see Alex and Simon again, and their friend Leo. There was some character development with Dylan, and I wish him the best. I didn't understand the purpose of Sergei in the story. I'll need to re-read other books in the series to see if he appears again.

I have fallen in love with Simon and Alex. These mid book adventures are such a sweet departure from the major themes that developed in the first two books. These are more light hearted, while still having poignancy and intelligence to them. And of course we get to keep experiencing their romance blossom.

This time we meet Dylan, a down on himself hockey player whom the boys coach. They end up helping him with more than just hockey skills and it allows us to explore Simon's budding counseling/social work career.

Sergei, another coach, played a foil of sorts with his sexual acting out and weird predatory behavior. Simon and Alex are so tight that they can't be broken up by some guy in the shower.

It's a nice quick read and it helped tide me over until book 3! I'm looking forward to the next one!

Reviewed for Prism Book Alliance

The two overtime installments are sweet looks at Alex and Simon outside of the pressure of school. One is an engaging holiday scene. The other is a bit longer and looks at how they interact with and teach the next generation.

This sweet morsel will tide me over until Hat Trick 3 is released later this year. Simon and Alex are at it again, teaching youth and spreading their love and enthusiasm about hockey. There's a bit of a conflict, but it's resolved fairly quickly. Another hit!

A nice summer interlude for Simon and Alex as they spend some summertime coaching at a hockey camp. They have a good time and help some kids and fend off a douchecanoe who doesn't seem to understand the word no. Maybe they should have said "NYET!" ;-)

Another cute short, interlude into Simon and Alex's life together. They are coaching kids in hockey for the summer and having a blast. I liked it. I am looking forward to the next big book. I want more hockey!
