Rate this book
Compehensive and effective, The Dog Whisperer is the essential guide to training your canine companion. Based on the premise that the modern dog still shares many of the behavioural characteristics of its ancestor, the wolf, this book will show you the ten keys to effective training and how to put those keys into practice. By following the three R's of dog training - reward, reinforcement and reprimand - you can have a well behaved dog that obeys your every command. This book will enable you to solve dog behaviour problems effectively, and offers a revealing insight into the mind of your dog - ultimately leading to an improved relationship between you and your canine friend.

Oh, makes me want to go straight out and get a dog, but I agree with Caitlin below... I understand about being the pack leader, but I can't agree with not sharing the love too. I'd be Ok with the bed and the furniture too. Very small sacrifices to give up for the absolute devotion and loyalty you get back from your dog. Great overall training tips though. Wish they worked on the Attitude packed Burmese cat I have, but he just looked at me sideways, and gave me the big brown finger.

Good for overall dog training tips but I can't agree with his idea that dogs aren't allowed on the furniture or your lap.

Great advice for dogs. You do need the family to read and buy into it. Good advice about top dogs. This also perfectly predicts how my Jack Russell, who sees herself as top dog, acts. Down to the sitting on my feet while I eat to establish her dominance.

Hard part is I know I won’t do all the suggestions. I can’t bear to stop my dog from cuddling in my lap. Enjoy it too much. It does have lots of other actionable advice.

This is a book to buy before you get a dog. Lots of great advice at the end of the book about breeds and picking dogs and puppies. Should be at the front of the book. I already have a dog so I skipped that section.

Well written with interesting real-life dog stories from an experienced trainer. Pretty good summary of what's involved in owning and training a dog

Great insight into the dog's perspective of what is important to them. So glad we read this, certainly saved our lounge suite being completely destroyed by keeping out cute little puppy off it to let her know her place and so glad now she is over 20kgs if she had be left to sit up with us I would hate to think what kind of chaos she would be causing.

Decent book on training your dog. Good background information although realistically most suited to an adult dog. Will read again in the future.

It started promising but contained alot of misinformation about the outdated and diaproved dominance theory, that asside it did have some good info. I would not reccomend this to someone who is new to dog training.
