American Airlines, US Airways and the Creation of the World's Largest Airline
The 2013 merger of American Airlines and US Airways marked a major step in the consolidation of the U.S. airline industry. A young management team that began plotting mergers a decade earlier designed a brilliant strategy to seize an industry prize. In doing so, it enlisted the help of unions who engineered one of the labor movement's biggest corporate victories. The airlines' histories and the inside story of the takeover is told by two veteran airline reporters.

“Although the U.S. airline industry has consistently been characterized by intense competition, it is worth noting that the list of the dozen carriers that started out on top includes the names of the three carriers- American, Delta and United-that, six decades later, ended up as the three global U.S. airlines, an indication that perhaps the best way to get ahead in the airline business was to start out ahead in the airline business.” | I would not recommend this book to a commoner. I would only recommend this book to someone with a specific niche interest in the U.S. commercial airline industry. Good thing I’m a part of the latter. Five stars!
