A Collision of Secrets

Rate this book
A chance encounter finds Richard face to face with his past. He is attending a company party where it is announced Sonia, his wife, is being promoted when Carolyn, an old colleague, appears under unusual circumstances. Having not seen one another in over a decade, the two of them reminisce about another lifetime.

The next day, the couple are on their way to spend the weekend at their lake house to celebrate Sonia’s promotion when tragedy strikes. After an SUV strikes them and drives away, Richard awakens in the hospital almost a month later to discover his wife disappeared from the scene of the accident and nobody has seen her since.

When the detectives on the case learn Sonia’s boss, Stan, went missing within a day of her, they struggle to determine whether the two ran away together or suffered the same perilous fate. While investigating the possibility that Richard had a hand in their disappearance prior to his accident, they find gaps in his past, elevating their suspicions.

Pushing through his recovery, Richard looks into Sonia’s company to determine what she and her boss may have uncovered that put a target on their backs. But when he learns that someone may have orchestrated his chance encounter with Carolyn to lure them to the same place, Richard realizes he might be the target and taking Sonia was just a way to hurt him.

Meanwhile, the detectives cannot find anyone with negative feelings toward the missing woman. And when they learn of the mystery woman Richard spoke to at the party, they intensify their investigation into the husband and his possible accomplice.

When another past colleague is lured there, they conclude everything must be tied to events that took place a decade ago. To find his wife, Richard must become the man he used to be, someone he never intended to be again, and join forces to track down the person responsible.

While the detectives are closing in on Richard, he and his friends have turned their focus on another suspect. And everything is headed toward A Collision of Secrets.

A Collision of Secrets is a engaging thriller that kept me turning pages. Coleman does a great job building tension around the hidden truths and the characters feel authentic. What really stood out to me was how seamlessly each revelation is layered. Just when I thought I figured out the direction of the story, another thread emerges that shifted my understanding. It’s a suspenseful read that I’d happily recommend to anyone who enjoys layered mysteries with plenty of twists and action.
