Some bloodlines are cursed.
Some legacies bite back.

Seraphina Bellarose wanted nothing more than a quiet life—no magic, no ghosts, no demons. But when her mother is murdered and the past claws its way back, she’s forced to return to the one place she swore she’d never call home The Crescent Enclave.
Dragging her sixteen-year-old twins to the ancestral estate is bad enough. Unleashing their dormant powers? Worse. Having to bind a sarcastic, self-help-obsessed demon? That’s a whole new level of complicated.
Amid old enemies stirring and long-hidden truths emerging, she discovers her closest friend is anything but human.
Add whiskey to the list of things she needs — right after a miracle and a nap.
Now Seraphina must confront the man she once loved, the magic she buried, and the monsters who tore her family apart.
Nothing is as it seems.
The shadows are closing in.

Ghosts don’t rest. Demons don’t forget. Blood always remembers.
Welcome to the Bellarose Legacy.

I received an ARC copy of this book and I’m really glad I got the chance to read it. It did take me a little while to get into the story, mainly because the author spends quite a bit of time on world-building. While the detail is impressive, I found myself wanting the plot to start moving sooner.

Once it did, though, I was completely hooked. The story became really engaging and addictive, and I found myself eager to see what would happen next. I enjoyed both the plot and the characters, and there were even some lovely found family moments that added warmth to the darker elements of the story.

While I appreciated the depth of the world, there were times when it felt a bit too detailed, with sections that didn’t necessarily add to the main storyline (though they’d be perfect for a movie adaptation!).

Overall, this was a well-written and immersive read. I’m looking forward to seeing where the story goes next in the series.

This first book in the Bellarose Legacy is funny, fast paced, dramatic and sneakily sexy. It took me on a journey of shadows and magic, curses and ghost… and the occasional mascot demon. Yep you read that right and he is so much more than a childminder too!

You will find in this story: a cozy newfound family, a steady and full bodied paranormal world, plots within plots, lots of family drama, a pet demon, silly humour and a very brooding, dark alpha male character that is just right for our strong willed leading lady!

I’m in awe of the descriptive aspect of this book. It’s prose, it’s music, it’s the cup of tea to my biscuits.

That being said, it does get a bit repetitive and sometimes seems to lengthen instances that could be shorter and to the point to create tension or impact when action is supposed to be the main focus.

I think the story is really compelling but has a lot of events to digest. Maybe a shorter version would be preferable to keep the reader fully enticed to the end, while leaving space for details I believe would be beneficial to connect with the characters - as a lot is skipped to further the plot.

Also, the characters are really strong willed, and maybe it’s their witchy side, but whenever one of them is supposed to display a rare emotional imbalance, it’s not reflected in the pages (or at least, I could not feel it).

All in all, I have enjoyed sharing this intriguing journey and I am ready for the next book!

Thank you C.M.N. Rogers for the trust with this ARC through Booksirens. And a huuugeee thank you for Samthrax…I might be a little in love with him…

When Seraphina mother is killed (by her power-hungry half-brother), she waked up in the middle of the night and not only learns about the death, but also that she is now the next in line and has to take over the role. This is exactly what she ran away from when she was younger. She wanted to live a normal life with her children and not get dragged into this again. Now she has no choice but step into her new role.

What I enjoyed a lot was that our FMC was a grown-up woman with children. I cannot remember having seen this prior, so I applaud it. That comes with a more complex character, and it is so refreshing. The interactions with her children, the ghost of her dead mother (who decided to still hang around), the demon (who is actually a nice guy if you get to know him) and the father of her children (surprise, you have kids and children: meet your father) and so enjoyable and funny. It just works :) They all need to come together, but their differences aside and prevent disasters from happening.

I really enjoyed the dynamic and was laughing a lot. The dialogue was so good :) Some of the storylines were dropped along the way and I wish we would have focused on these a bit more (we started training the children but then moved on kind of). I enjoyed the start to the series a lot and look forward to the next one.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
