One fake omega.
An omega-only academy.
A steely-eyed professor with secrets.

I’m a beta. Is disguising myself as an omega to attend an omega-only finishing school a good idea? No. Definitely not. But my sister is an omega, and not everyone has someone willing to break them out of their gilded cage the way I would for Everleigh.

My mission at Haven Academy pits me against three unexpected alpha foes, and I will not be the one backing down. There’s a grumpy math professor who suspects I don’t belong, a sexy fencing instructor with a cruel lash for a tongue, and a flirtatious gardener who wants to take me to Paris?

When nothing goes to plan, I’m left bruised, broken, and fighting for my life. Pack Madden, to my surprise, is determined to nurse me back to health. And when I’m back on my feet, none of them want to let me go. Hell, I’m resistant to leaving even knowing I don’t have a future with them.

Alphas only want omegas. Everyone knows that. Why would I ever believe three hot alphas would settle for a beta like me?

** DEFIANT BETA is book three in an interconnected Omegaverse series. It features a determined heroine and three possessive heroes looking to dote on their precious o̶m̶e̶g̶a̶ beta. HEA guaranteed. For readers 18+.

I was really looking forward to this book, because I adored the first two books. The first is one I think about often because of how much I enjoyed it. But this book just was not ready to be published, in my opinion.

The primary issue is that there are several plots at once, but almost none of them have anything to do with the other. You don't find out what the alphas are even doing at the school until the 30% mark. Honestly, you could cut out most of the beginning of the book. Della's plan from the start comes across a juvenile. I know she's 19, so I would have been fine with it had the book treated it like a terrible plan. But every mature character supported her, for some reason.

There's a point where something traumatic happens to Della. Which is fine, this series is about healing. Except it never closes the loop here, in the sense that literally nothing happens during that sequence that matters for the larger plot. All it does is push Della into the heroes home. And even that is kind of weak.

As usual, the author handles representation of trauma well. That remains true. But the heroes were honestly essentially the same person. Della behaves in ways that rarely make sense. There's a twist in the book that also felt out of left field, and was trying ot tie the book into the larger series. But that also had very little to do with any of the primary action of the book.

If you're the kind of person who can ignore characters behaving in nonsensical ways, or plots that don't serve a larger purpose, then you might like this book. But I started skimming it about teh 75% mark. By the end, where it did the multiple ending thing, I honestly just was begging for the book to end. The reason I finished it was because I like the author, and I'll probably read the next book because I enjoyed the other two so much. I didn't want to miss important world details. But I'm not necessarily looking forward to the next book. I thought it might be about River, because that would have been interested and I was invested in her. But nope. Book four is about Juniper. A completely off-screen character we heard of once.

If Ember writes it I’ll read it. She’s become one of my autobuy authors and has yet to write a book I haven’t liked. I’ve been patiently waiting for Della’s story since she first appeared in book one, ready to trample her sister’s abusive alpha with a horse. She sees herself as an unremarkable beta, yet is the only one determined and brave enough to go undercover at the omega academy to try to free them. Things don’t go to plan however, especially when she meets three secretive alphas with their own agenda.

Sparks start flying but everyone knows alphas don’t fall for betas, and before they can further explore their connection, the unthinkable happens. It’ll take far more inner strength than Della thinks she has, along with three single-minded alphas to recover and move forward.

This was an emotional, character driven read that had everything you’d want in an omegaverse book, where true love prevails despite designations.

4.25⭐️/ 3.5 🌶️

I have been fully immersed in this series!! The storytelling keeps you hooked and I’ve loved all the main characters and slight overlap between stories.

Having a beta instead of an omega be the center of a pack usually isn’t my favorite but man did I love Della something fierce! She is a whole vibe and I loved seeing the guys fall in love with her trouble with a capital T spirit. There were definitely some heavy TW’s that threw a wrench in the story and gave me such a heavy hurt seeing the struggles.

But the continuing to advocate for omegas is going strong throughout the plot and the fact that these guys are fighting for their women fiercely and that Juniper’s (River’s sister who we met in this book) story is next has me so giddy! Ember, please keep this series coming!!

First off, I LOVE the fact that the author put recaps of the first two books in this series in the beginning of the book. It was EXTREMELY helpful! I've read so many omegaverse books and it would be easy to confuse certain details.

Anyhow...because Della knows what can happen to omegas (her sister...previous book...) she disguises herself as an omega and enrolls in an omega finishing school with the objective of convincing the students there to leave and go after their own wants and desires. She doesn't expect to find her own scent matches while there.

Della is awesome. She's slightly unhinged (but in the best way). The guys...there were times I wanted to smack one of them upside the head but for the most part, they were great! This isn't a "sweet" omegaverse - probably more on the gray side. I flew through it and I'm excited to see the next story!

I really enjoyed this! I love omegaverse books and it was really nice to see it from a beta perspective. The beginning of the book was super fun and I enjoyed how mischievous the FMC was. Personally I would have loved to see that for the entire plot but that’s just me. The rest of the book felt quite busy with plot points so didn’t feel as though we got to know the MMCs super well but the plot was interesting and kept me reading. As she is a beta you do miss some common OV tropes like scent matching, heat, nesting etc which are my fav but was nice to read something different. Overall it was a good book and well written but I wish the plot had been at the academy the entire time and that we got to see more relationship than we did. 3 stars!

i liked this one a little less than the first two, and i think that’s because this one did feel like it left out some of the relationship development. and i understand why the author would do that since people complained that the first two books moved too slowly, but unfortunately i think the story suffers for that decision.

it just doesn’t feel like we know della and her men and their relationship nearly as well as the characters from the other books. a good portion of this book is spent with della missing and being tracked down, which obviously means that’s less time that della actually spends getting to know these people, so by the end it feels like the audience knows these characters more than the characters actually know each other.

This one was a miss in my opinion. And I loved book 1 and 2. I felt like I couldn’t really tell the difference between each alpha , they didn’t seem unique at all to me just very cookie cutter alpha. I also felt like it was lacking a lot of emotions for what the characters had been through. They talked about it but the emotions felt brushed over or only really mattered in the story sometimes. The ending just did not seem to match what happened at all or the characters, seemed rushed and just kind of strange? Out of character. Overall this one was just not it.

This irritated real bad

The plot and premise of the book was great. The FMC and her avoidance of reading the room and recognizing her and their feelings kept giving me whiplash. Even at the end of the book there was still a question about “us?”. I was ready to throw my kindle across the room. The book was great overall but the miscommunication throughout really frustrated me to no end! I’m still going to continue the series. The FMC in this book really grated my nerves. Meanwhile i soft dnf’d the 2nd one because resa was getting on my last nerve too lmfaoo.

It wasn’t a bad book for sure but so damn frustrating! Della is so damn impulsive and a kind of stubborn childishness that it borders on irritation. I also feel that the relationship between the main characters does not show any deep development because it is based on lies and miscommunication. I find it hard to understand how trust can build. Della is so altruistic that it borders on self harm.

However this is only my own emotions and personal feelings getting in the way. The overall story was good and a unique perspective.

Needs better warning

This novel is powerful in its depiction of trauma and working through it. Unfortunately while the author does have a content warning I don't believe it is sufficient. The story revolves around SA and the aftermath. While the SA is not described itself which I was glad for someone with their own trauma could be triggered by it. But if that's not something that you are worried about than Della's character arch is a strong one to read.

It was ok

But there was to much that was missing, in my opinion. Did she ever mention the formula that almost killed her? Weren't the security guys trying to find out what it was, and where it came from? And how and who found the alphas that hurt Della, would have liked to see more of the search, and discovery of them, the book was to long for it to be so lacking, 3 stars cause I liked Della she was funny, and kind of a baddy. And the Alphas were good guys.

I really liked Della and enjoyed her character. The first half of the book I was engaged and was excited to see what she was going to do to the school. Her teams experience was rough to read and I was excited to she her work through things and grow but she just pushed things aside until the end and I didn’t love that. I also felt like her relationship with the guys was a little insta lovey and it frustrated me. Which is unfortunate because I was excited for Della’s story!

Read it in one day!

This book was just right. Characters well thought out and kept me riveted in the story. The FMC had just the right amount of sass and vulnerability, while the alphas had the right amount of masculinity and aggression.

Beta 🩷🩷 I am here for it!!

I love a good Beta & Alpha romance. This is the only one I read in this series and I am so glad I wasn’t disappointed by her becoming an Omega. The Alpha’s loved her for who she was and that was amazing.

Love this Beta!

Strong female lead.
Healthy female friendships.
Good character growth with complex characters. Hurt-comfort vibes.

Della is hella likable. She's reckless, but brave, intelligent and compassionate.

very good

Great third book!I was glad to see Della get her own story even though it was kind of gut wrenching in places with what happens to her, it was well worth the read. Highly recommend.

This book was, unfortunately a miss for me. I loved the story, don't get me wrong, but there needed to be more depth to it. After having read book 2 that dragged on for too long, this one (whose story i like even more) felt like it was cut short. All that plus there being few emotions involved, and I'm left feeling disappointed.

So far, this one is my favorite story of the series. Also, so far, this feels like the most generic and emotionless of the series. I wasn't getting hardly any emotions from the characters. We got to 75%, and she barely had interactions with them, but they supposedly loved each other?
And I didn't like that there wasn't much groveling. He threatened her to get her to leave, when she did she got abducted and assaulted, and at first when they found out Vincent just said, "oh well, the police will take care of it".

There needed to be more depth to everything. It felt very surface-level. She also seemed to bounce back and get over her trauma quick, too. If you are going to go that dark with things, you can't make it so flat.
We even have loose ends that weren't really addressed. What happened about the drug? If she had a stroke, how would she be OK to leave less than a day later?

I will finish this series, but this book certainly let me down.
