Freedom isn't as simple as walking out of prison gates.

After four years behind bars, India Freeman is determined to start fresh. However, rebuilding her life isn't easy, with family tensions, haunting mistakes, and the shadow of her ex looming over her peace. When she meets Jayson Davenport, a retired Army vet with his own scars, their connection is instant and undeniable. With his love and her passion for hair styling, India dares to dream bigger. Like passing state boards, owning her salon, and embracing the new woman she was trying to become.

But when the past comes knocking, India must decide whether she will let it destroy her, or rise above and claim her second chance?

She took the fall for love. Now she's rising for herself.

First read by this author, and I really enjoyed it! Poor India got caught up with the image and facade that a man put in front of her. Ready to escape her mother's rigid home rules, she runs right into the arms of this man that is no good for her. When things are good, they are, but she quickly learns where his loyalty lies; and where does that leave her? 💔 She rides it out like a G, looking forward to putting the past behind her and turning her life around.

Jashon has such a giving heart and thrives when he is taking care of others. When he meets India he can see the pain behind her smile, but also her strength. He is immediately taken with her, wanting to know her better. It was beautiful watching Jashon show India how to be loved correctly. How to be soft, lean into her craft, and release some of her tension and fear. India had a lot going on with getting her life on track, and the lifeless relationship with her mother; she needed the care she received from Jashon.

However, there is always a hater in our midst. That damn Romeo! What did you think she was gone do when she saw you again sir? The audacity to think that ish is sweet between you two! 😤🤬 You betta take that L and move along. But, noooooo..... Well, that ego along with karma took care of it so!! 🤷🏿‍♀️

That ending almost took me out, cause ma'am you scared the hell outta me ok? 👀😤 Enjoyed this very much and will be looking into her catalog. 👍🏿👍🏿

I had the lovely pleasure of the ARC READ!!
India the sweet naive girl. In it for the glam falls for Romeo is nothing more than a headache. She learns a hard lesson. One she could’ve easily avoided. The heart wants what it wants thought right ? Anyway, the universe inserts Jayshon who’s every bit of a lover boy, sexy, and it is all scary and new to India. Will she be able to move forward? Or stuck in her past ? I loved and enjoyed this. Lover boys only ‼️

Good writing just not the best story telling, a lot of stuff didn’t make sense nor was it broken down for the reader. Without giving a lot away idk why a convict wouldn’t alert the authorities they were being harassed? Like first issue why wouldn’t you tell ya PO, the cops ANYBODY at this point cus it’s clear he’s a problem. Next up why was he an issue like she did her bid never snitched so what exactly was his obsession? We never saw anything to make it click or be impactful IMO. Next up i appreciated how she made the FMC work for everything but what you mean she’s unlicensed but got a business degree in jail? They ain’t offer trades there? Or why wasn’t that her first order of business upon release? Next up how you just put people out of a place like TAKE IT TO COURTTTT that’s illegal to tell someone be with me or move out. Then the whole taking it to the internet was weird cus why would the city even care cus India is basically a no name or tryna keep a low profile so what was the point of all that? Overall it has potential but a lot more of it needed to be fleshed out

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thanks for Nothing by Jenica was a ride from start to finish! India went through A LOT because of Romeo, but honestly, I think it was a stepping stone for her growth. Sometimes, we as women (some, not all) can be a little naïve to men and what they really do—especially when it comes to their “careers.” And sometimes, we can get wrapped up in something that was never meant for us. That was India’s reality… but the beauty is, she prevailed.

Having a friend like Jaya was such a beautiful thing to witness—true friends who hold you down no matter what are rare, but Jaya was that to the core. India’s mama had me annoyed for most of the story, but I will give her credit… in the end, she pulled it together.

I won’t give too much away, but just know this book was giving soft era energy, heavy on the “my man, my man, my man” vibes. I will say, I personally wish it wasn’t a novella because I could’ve read way more about these characters! 🙄 Still, this was an addictive, emotional, and satisfying read.

Second Chance at Life

India's story is so common, I like that she came home to a few real people willing to hold her down. Romeo is a narracist who really thinks he's the prize. Jayson is the complete opposite. I hate how long she lied to him because he was more than understanding of everything she told him. Jayshon was a real man willing to protect her by any means. Jaya is the best friend every girl needs, I loved her raw honesty. Her mom was something but I eventually understood where she came from. That ending had me spent but I enjoyed the read. 🩵

I love this book 😍

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The narrative was compelling, and the author's execution was exceptional. The characters of India and Jayshon were particularly captivating, and their dynamic was a highlight. Jayshon's character was truly outstanding, and India's journey was entirely deserving. This book evoked a profound emotional response, taking me from moments of intense exhilaration to profound despair, only to ultimately leave me with a sense of satisfaction. It was a genuine pleasure to experience this literary work.

exceeded my expectations

This novella was not what I expected. I enjoyed this book from start to finish. Jayshon applied pressure from the beginning and to some women it would have scared them off. India I felt so bad for her bc she got out of prison and her stalker ex just wouldn’t leave her alone. That man was so miserable. I’m glad India finally told Jayshon about her past. All and all this was a great read…I can’t wait to check out the rest of this author books.

A must read

Thanks for sharing this book, it was so good and very much needed. Ladies go through this all the time and don’t know where to go. I’m so thankful for a best friend, you don’t find many ppl like her. Zuria was a good person and deserves better as well.
I’m happy she finally got the love from her mother that she longed for.
Now Jayshon that’s the kind of man we all needs. He did his thing. This book is fire and I would recommend it to everyone.

Excellent

This book was soo good and realistic. When you love someone you know immediately. No need to wait. I love how India stood on business every time concerning her ex. Jashon is a man's man and I loved it the whole book. Another excellent read by Jenica!

Such a good read. Everybody deserves love after a heartbreak and my girl got that! There’s always a sorry excuse for a man trying to come back after a breakup 🙄

Overall, the book was good, but I found myself wishing it had been longer and more descriptive. Certain parts, like the smut scene or the car descriptions. the writing diverged in a way that allowed the mind to wander and fill in the gaps with imagination. More moments written with that same level of detail and openness would have made the story even more engaging
