A very satisfying conclusion to the story arc with some great action moments and a heartfelt discussion. It also segways to the next arc quite nicely. I'm really enjoying this series and hope it keeps up.
This series is reminding me of my beloved Robin (2021) more all the time. I'm glad Tenji is sticking around, and I look forward to more bonding between him and Cass.
It’s so interesting how each of the three swords coming after Cass wanted something from her. Either to kill her or recruit her, or kill her once she denied their offer to be recruited. Based on the current track record I’m not too trusting of the third sword we end the issue with. But I think the most horrifying thing is that during a flashback sequence at the start where bronze tiger, under mind control, was forced to train Shiva for her father, that the person who kept Bronze tiger under mind control…was called…Dr. Forget-Me-Not. HAHAHAHA, seriously? That’s a real character that got the better of BRONZE TIGER. NO SHOT. I plan on reading more Cass comics in the future, and I’m not sure I will be able to read whenever that character first pops up without laughing.
But getting into the issue itself, we left the last issue with the second sword, sent from the blood clan, killing the first sword and then attempting to offer Cass a deal. Cass did not want to work with them in the first arc of this series and certainly doesn’t after hearing everything her distant relatives put her mother and aunt through. But still the sword persists and attempts to show Cass what they can offer her and the blood related brother they just found out about. In exchange for coming with her and bring the clan out of East Asia by training their troops, they will teach Cass the ritual to unlock her birthright which is blood bending. But as shiva adamantly refuses the offer, the only choice now is termination. Bronze tiger at first holds his son back from running into the fray and helping Cass, but Tenji fights back. Pointing out the lies he was raised in and that he isn’t going to let his real sister, a real hero, down. Even going so far as delivering a powerful kick to his father.
Now by this point Cass has stomped the blood sword into the ground, but that doesn’t mean the fight is over. And the sword even comes back even more ferocious, now surrounded by blood she is bending and filling the air with. Batgirl and the Jade tiger once again lock eyes and run into the fray! At first I was like bronze tiger, skeptical of a secret sibling plot line. But just like bronze tiger I get it, these two can really lock in when they want to. Bronze tiger even goes so far as watching them and remembering back to his glory days with Rick and their mother and aunt fighting alongside each other. This family is born to make powerful duos. Now am I still unsure if Tenji is really Cass’s brother and not her cousin, idk. But it’s great to see them fighting alongside each other and how far they are willing to go. The fight almost seems loss when Tenji goes down, but Cass completely lets loose. Every punch she delivers the sword and she crashes her through the wall, it’s as of the blood surrounding her rips into her ten fold the punch…but it barely phases her even with her costume being ripped to shreds.
Bronze tiger is finally the one to stop Cass from punching the sword into the ground, and as he embraces her in his arms he consoles her on never learning how to heal and that they can get started now. But once again, that blood bender isn’t down yet. She has lost a lot of blood and they just want to patch her up and send her in her way at this point, but she is adamant about going to the death. As she sends off a powerful volley of blood blades, bronze tiger steps in and puts himself between Cass/Tenji and the blood bender. Giving Cass the time she needs to get a blade read and knock down the sword once more. As Cass walks over to the sword, telling her once more this is over and to return to her clan, the bender calls upon the dark spirits inside of her and releases them! Suddenly three shadowy demons flow from her mouth like smoke, only to fall back and surround the girl as they vanish, calling out to the blood of wu that flows through them and promising to meet Cass and Tenji again.
And just when things couldn’t be worse…the third sword shows up. They are just surprised they got to watch a blood sacrifice and live to tell the tale, but they are not here to fight…although the intro for the sword mentioning their finisher seems too deliberate. Right as batgirl grabs a new mask and they ready up to fight them, the sword pulls off her mask to reveal she is Jaya Jayesh of the league of shadows and Cass knew her dad. AHHH JAYESH! Why didn’t you say so! Jaya reveals that the leavue of shadows is reformed and Nyssa Al Ghul is seeking to right the wrongs of her family and has built paradise deep in the Himalayas. A spot to offer a second chance for anyone who needs it, but is now under the threat of war by the unburied. Just like the last sword she has come asking for Cass’s help, but she only wants Cass to come to the sanctuary and hear their plea and help bring her mother’s killers to Justice. At the end of the day the choice remains hers and shall remain that way. Whelp, this is the perfect time for Cass to go off with a healer and learn all about healing, so let’s do it! And Jade tiger will even be joining Cass with his father’s blessing. Bronze tiger knows his son was right and this is not the life for him, he needs to go out into the world and learn to make his own choices and mistakes. But that doesn’t mean he needs to let his son out there without a bit of support, which includes his very own Jade claws for the Jade tiger!! Additionally Bronze tiger also had the sword of shiva tucked away, which he gifted to Cass. A new journey of Cass attempting to heal and accept the people closest to her that have hurt her is starting! And I can’t wait to see how Cass comes out the other side! Because I know for sure she will.

This book continues to impress me. I love how they continue to grow Cassie's character and that makes her so much more relatable. The story is so much more than fighting and I have listed it as one of my more enjoyable books.
This arc was really really strong. I really liked how it all played out and each of the three swords. I’m actually really excited for the next arc. I’m hoping I’ll like it as much as I liked this one!
I love Cassandra Cain and am excited to get to know Tenji better, plus learn more about her family history. I do miss seeing her in Gotham though. Maybe sometime soon!
