This is a children's book from 1996 that is good for small children up to school age.
It shows a trek through the wilderness guided only by different animal tracks. It is illustrated in a realistic format and entices the child to guess which animal made each set of footprints. It can be used as a good learning tool distinguishing between big and small, dangerous and gentle, and shows animals foraging, building and hunting in nature. The story comes out the end with a family of hikers making their own "animal tracks" and encourages us to find signs of wildlife no matter where you are. It is there is you look for it. This story is calming and educational for the young reader and can teach a respect for nature.

This is a story about how you can know if an animal has been in the area around you but just finding aminal tracks. The animal does not have to physically be there when you are there, but you know it has been around before. There are many different animals and tracks that are seen on land. It is interesting and fun to try to figure out why they were there!

This is a great book. I love how you were able to see the many different tracks not only left by animals', but people too!

This could be used in a classroom by allowing children to make their own foot tracks and letting them tell their story of where they left their track and why! I would recommend this book.

Me encantó, me encantó y me encantó.

This books followed many different animals as they did different things throughout the day and focused on the tracks they made in the dirt. The author would reference the tracks, the size of the animal, and some facts about them. It did a good job of almost transporting the reader into the world of the animals. It also talked about how the wild isn’t the only place you can find animal tracks. This book wasn’t quite as informative as some others, but it more was about appreciating animals and the differences between them and appreciating the fact that we can find them anywhere we go. It was good, but not particularly exciting.

Science Grade: 2 Fiction with non-fiction fact in the back of the book

Great Animal Facts!!

Helps to teach students that they don't have to have the animal in person to know if they have been there. Animals move all over the land and we know this by looking at the animal tracks.

In a lesson, have the students make their own "animal" tracks in flower mache. Then once it has harden, have the students write a story of where their tracks have been.

Interesting book. Takes a non-fiction book and has the reader guessing which type of animal track is on each pages as the book progresses. At the end shows how to experiment and gather real like tracks.

Progressive story that introduces various animals in simple, repetitive Spanish, then the tracks of a new animal, and asks readers to guess what kind of animal made the new set of tracks.

Non-fiction picture book which explains animal tracks, while encouraging the reader to find them on the page. Second person viewpoint. Well thought out page turns.

28 months - not the most scientific but a good introduction to foot prints and identifying animals with them.
