I’ve been in love with Theodore Frey for as long as I can remember. When I turned eighteen, I ignored the acceptance letter from the best college I’d applied to, as well as the facts that Frey was my dad’s best friend, the mayor of Beauville, the scariest bear shifter in the mountains, and twenty years older than me.
Armed with an outrageous set of lingerie and a great deal of naiveté, I showed up on his doorstep. I thought he was my fated mate and that we’d be together forever.
As a reasonable adult, Frey did the only thing he could have he rejected me.
Four years later, I’m back in Beauville. I've changed, but one thing hasn’t. Frey is still the only alpha I’ve ever wanted.
Frey
I’ve never told my best friend what happened the night Oliver came to my house. No need to make things awkward. Especially since our sheriff is a protective hothead when it comes to his only omega son.
I’ve caught glimpses of Oliver over the years, and that clumsy teen is long gone. Even though I’ve tried to keep my distance, his blue-green eyes haunt my dreams.
Now he’s back for good, working at the town hall right under my nose, and I’m climbing the walls. I’ve never seen anything sexier than Oliver putting me in my place. Beautiful, sharp, and full of fire… he’s everything I’ve ever wanted.
With his father watching my every move, I’m barely holding it together. If Oliver so much as crooks his finger at me, I don’t think I’ll be able to resist.
Tempting Frey is the second book in the Bears of Beauville series—a standalone MM omegaverse romance featuring bear shifters, fated mates, and mpreg. HEA, no cliffhangers.
Queer fiction author Roe Horvat was born in the former Czechoslovakia. Equipped with a dark sense of sarcasm and a penchant for Czech beer, Roe traveled Europe and finally settled in Sweden. He came out as transgender in 2017 and has been fabulous since. He loves Jane Austen, Douglas Adams, bad action movies, stand-up comedy, pale ale, and daiquiri, with equal passion. When not hiding in the studio doing graphics, he can be found trolling cafés in Gothenburg, writing, and people-watching.
I love it. Is it a perfect book? No, not really, at least not for me. But if I could, I would soooo love to live in Beauville and watch the bears fall in love and make fools of themselves here and there. I love the place Roe Horvat has created here. I'm not a huge Omegaverse fan, so I always find it difficult to read these books and I avoid many of them. But this one was quite good for me because the heat phase is kept quite short and it's nicely spiced up with some extra kink. The first chapter almost scared me away, but I knew I could trust this author to find the right way to make the story wonderful. Otherwise, it's short and quick to read, wonderful to enjoy, and I really like the characters. More depth and a little more plot would probably be great, but I don't think this series is designed for that. You probably have to read every book to learn more about this place and its people. I'm totally hooked and eagerly awaiting the next installment.
Theodore Frey, the largest alpha bear in the mountains, looked scary enough without trying. When he frowned, the sky darkened. But to me, he was the most handsome and exciting man on earth. Just the shape of his hands, huge with strong fingers, prominent veins, and dark hair on the backs, was enough to get me wet and fidgeting on the bench. 🐻😋🐻
Twisting my arm, I struggled to shove the toy in harder. My fantasies have changed over the years. The Frey in my dreams used to be a gentle, careful lover, coaxing me and teaching me. But later, when my body matured and my libido grew, my fantasy lover turned impatient and rough. 😳🐻😳
Oliver’s cries ricocheted around my bathroom. And I felt so fucking proud. Five times and counting. Was I as vain as to keep score of my mate’s orgasms? Yup. I was going to make up for lost time. He said I owed him, so I was going to pay up with interest. ☺️🐻☺️
⭐️ 2/5 — Fated mates? More like fated mess. 💩 🌶 3.5/5 — Hot scenes wasted on the wrong damn setup. 🫠
📝 Update: Sooo remember when I said this was a 2.5⭐️ rounded up to 3? Yeah… scratch that. I woke up this morning and my first thought was literally, “No. Nope. ABSOLUTELY NOT.” 🙂↔️💀 This book haunted my dreams like a bad decision, and the rage was still simmering with my morning coffee ☕️🤬 So congrats, Frey (and Roe)—you two annoyed me so much I had to come back and drop your rating. Consider this my official breakup with this nonsense of a book and the series. 😤
💭 My Rambling 💭
So yeah, this is pretty much gonna be all rambling and not the sunshiney kind, okay? 😌
I picked this one up thinking, “Ah, I need a comfort read, let’s go back to Beauville before I forget who’s who,” and honestly... maybe I should’ve just stayed in blissful ignorance 🙈
When I pick up a fated mates book, I expect insta-attraction, insta-lust, insta-love—give me all that feral energy! And I did get that... except it was totally one-sided. Poor Oliver (the omega) out here shooting his shot while Frey (the alpha) kept swatting it down like a fly. Dude’s reason? Oliver just turned 18, and he’s his best friend’s son. Okay fine, boundaries, I get it. 🙂
But here’s what drove me up the damn wall: for the next four freakin’ years, every time Oliver came home for holidays, Frey avoided him like the plague. Fast forward—Oliver’s 22, fully grown, working at the Town Hall, and Frey’s 41… and this man is still hiding like a scared cat in a thunderstorm?! 😩
Excuse me, but what kind of fated mate pulls a Houdini every time his supposed mate walks in the room? “Scared of angering the best friend”?? Please. Be so for real. The pull of fate couldn't make Frey get his head out of his ass??? MAKE. IT. MAKE. SENSE. 😤
And oh my GOD 😭 the WORST THING in this book? Six months before Frey and Oliver finally get together, Frey—our supposed alpha fated mate—has a one-night stand with some random guy 😡 followed by a casual blowjob the next morning as a “goodbye.” Ah, lovely... NOT. 🤬 Meanwhile, sweet Oliver? A total virgin, who couldn’t even kiss anyone else because the fated bond made him physically incapable. Like, hello?? With all due respect, Roe… what kind of setup is this?!?! 🤡💔
It kinda felt like Roe tried to twist the omegaverse formula, but for me… it just didn’t land. The setup was messy, the pacing uneven, and Frey’s whole “I can’t, I mustn’t” act got old fast. Like—sir, you’re a bear shifter. ACT LIKE ONE. Not a nervous house cat. 😒
Now, the spice? Oh, Roe still delivers when it comes to heat. It’s hot, intimate, and all that good omegaverse goodness—heat sex, knotting, breeding you name it. But when the supposed Alpha never takes initiative? Ugh. It just… loses its bite, you know? 🥲
So yeah—good spice, decent writing, but the romance? Nah. It clawed my patience instead of my heart. 🫠💔
💭 Final thoughts: May Frey stay in time-out FOREVER, Roe RETHINK this whole "fated" logic, and me? I'll be over here cleansing my brain with fanfics and fluffy mates who ACTUALLY ACT LIKE THEY'RE FATED. 😌

“Will it fit?” Oliver eyed my cock, looking uncharacteristically shy.
We've got some bubbling slick, throbbing wombs with pulsating mouths, organ rearranging belly bulges, dousing that closed gate, rub-a-dub-dub belly-jobs, and adorable roleplay.
It's a very sweet bear-shifter omegaverse book. Their roleplay games were really cute.
I lowered my voice. “How about… you imagine it’s your first time?”
My favorite roleplay scene:
“You impregnated me. Inseminated me.” Suddenly, he giggled. “God, that sounded wrong. Forget that one.” Another giggle bubbled out, and I had to chuckle with him.
“I think only fertilize would be worse than inseminate,” he said before he burst into laughter.
“Fecundate?” I tried, and Oliver wheezed.
“Oh God! Are we role-playing a thesaurus now?”
Is there anything cuter than a couple cracking up during a roleplay scene?
“You’re a beast, Teddy. I love how huge you are.”
Well, maybe a massive bear called Teddy wins the cuteness award.

I read this one last week when I was falling into a reading slump and I needed a comfort author to make myself feel better. This book was exactly the romantic steamy story the doctor ordered and I was about to kick out of the reading slump for now, so thank you very much book!
Mini-Blurb: Oliver presented himself to Frey like a present on Olivers 18 birthday because Oliver knowns that Frey is his fated mate and he was ready to be together but Frey rejected him as Frey is 19 years older than him, and Oliver’s dad is Frey’s best friend. But Oliver never stopped believing in them and now it’s 4 years later and Oliver is back in town (working with Frey) and ready to fight to get his man.
Ive been an emotional mess lately and this book really got me from page one. I was just so invested in their story. If you know, you’d already know that pining is my favorite thing in the world. And I just loved Oliver who was fierce and determined to be with Frey even if it seemed impossible at times.
I just adored all of the descriptions of their attraction to each other, they were so fun to read. The descriptions of the effects that their scents had on each other were so good. And the descriptions of their obsession and pining for each other? Perfect. There was so many descriptions of their fantasies with each other, from spending quiet morning together to sexual experiences and I loved each and every one of them.
I loved their dynamic. They worked together and I loved seeing their interactions at work, they were just so perfect for each other. And it was really fun to read about their jobs too (managing and developing the small town they live in). Also I loved how Oliver trusted Frey to always do right by him and take care of him, it was just the best.
Not going to be a surprise when I say this, but damn Roe Horvat just knowns how to write the best sexual tension. I loved how they had no control around each other and had to touch the other at all times it was just so good.
Big, hung bear named Teddy (the mayor of Beauville) + too-smart-for-his-own-good omega named Oliver (who happens to be the youngest son of Teddy's best friend) = lingerie, role play, first heat, breeding, etc.
The sex fest didn't begin until 40%. Hurray for slowish burn!
The conflicts were expected, but this is omegaverse; it's not really about the plot.
Safety info, content warnings and tropes down below.
A quick, easy, fun and steamy read. Roe Horvat can sometimes be a bit much for me but this has been one of my favorites by the author. I simply cannot resist a dad's best friend trope. It had a bit of angst in the beginning and I enjoyed the pining. You could even call it a slow burn by Roe standards, but it also turned into a bit of a smutfest, albeit an enjoyable one.
My only criticism is that the shift from denial and reluctance to accepting and overjoyed (on Frey's part in relation to the mate bond) was way too easy and quick. Needed a bit more work to happen there for it too feel fully believable.
Definitely recommend, especially if you want something easy and smutty but not the typical low/no angst you typically get with those books.

“Fucking kiss me already,” I demanded. Not my finest moment, but Frey listened. Finally.
I bounced on his knot, bracing myself with my hands on his knees. He caressed my belly, palming the place where I could feel him the most on the inside, and I glanced down. Oh wow! There was a big fucking bulge below my belly button.
“I don’t know if I want to spank you or kiss your feet, dammit,” he mumbled into my skin.
roe’s books are just not hitting my the same lately. the characters used to have some personality and it didn’t feel like sex sex sex sex sex sex. kinda getting tired of this
This was lovely. I really had so much fun reading this. Basically 18 year old Oliver was convinced that his dad’s bestie, who is 20 years older than him, was his fated mate. So on his 18th birthday, Oliver dresses up very scandalously and goes to Frey’s door and offers himself to Frey. And Frey being a sensible adult, sends Oliver away. He goes off to college and comes home 4 years later and now has a job working with Frey. I knew that was going to be so fun.
The chemistry between the two was amazing. It didn’t come to a head until the end of the book, but the buildup was amazing. I loved both of them and definitely when they came together (pun intended). The only thing I wished it had was an epilogue.
I am really enjoying this series, and I can’t wait for the next one!
Sadly there is nothing new here. This read exactly like so many others from this author, but lacked the all consuming connection that makes them occasionally 5⭐
Though I must admit I had a giggle at the drama of this line: "In the shower, I washed the precious cum off, mourning the loss.”
This was HOT. Oliver and Frey’s chemistry was unreal, and the build-up between them had me glued to the page. The age gap, the history, the tension from their fated bond, it all came together perfectly and made their romance so addictive.
I also loved seeing how Calvin is doing. Those little glimpses made me so happy and reminded me why I adore this series. And honestly, I cannot wait for the other bears to fall in love too, I just know their stories are going to be amazing.
Roe delivered big time with this one. Emotional, steamy, sweet, and impossible to put down.
(3.5/5) I'm going to say something crazy now, but please bear with me: I almost wished there had been less spice—even for a Roe Horvat book about mates and the omegaverse. I really liked the workplace/mayor theme in this story, and if the mating bond and heat hadn't had to happen so quickly (the bear shifter thing), triggering the sex fest that is typical for Roe, I would have loved two hundred more pages about the workplace-romance. It could have been so, so good!
2.5 ⭐️ this book made me look up the word 'fecundate' so I guess I did learn something new today 👌 alas, everything was pretty much resolved and wrapped up at 48% so the rest was just...there. I miss good pacing in Horvat's books...there used to be some, right?
When Oliver turned 18, he attempted to seduce the man he loved, Teddy who just so happened to be his father’s best friend. Teddy sent him on his way, convincing Oliver it was just a crush. When Oliver returns home, he’s determined to find out whether or not Teddy is the mate he always thought was his.
This is a sweet, quick read with plenty of spice.
-age gap -father’s best friend/best friend’s son -omegaverse -mpreg -fated mates -v!rgin Omega -first heat -bear shifter
***** POV… multi first person
Standalone or series… book 2 in series CAN be read as a standalone
3.5 stars. This is the worst roe Horvat book I've ever read, and that's a HUGE COMPLIMENT. This was still fun, entertaining and I just love his use of English, you can tell it's different because it wasn't his first language, it just makes everything less predictable and pushes you to think about what's being said!
Ugly and Trouble will always remain my favorite Roe books (self made art available on his Patreon btw, and the art is really good, huge orcs taking tiny omegas, tentacles, all the things) .
Roe Horvat is one of my favorite erotic authors, and everything he's ever published is perfect if you're in the mood for good smut+plot. Fingers crossed, we get an audiobook for Milk!
John Solo also turns out to be the perfect narrator for everything he writes? Which is weird, because I have strong feels about him, but every book he's done for Roe, he did good, usually better than good!
Oliver loves Theodore Frey, always has, and understands he always will, he’s convinced Frey is his mate. Oliver is the youngest (omega) son of the hothead town sheriff Chickie, who is Frey’s best friend. Four years ago, when he turned eighteen, Oliver offered himself to Alpha Frey. That was a miscalculation, Frey was not amused. Oliver left Beauville to study, but he’s back.
Frey tried to have minimal contact with Oliver in the past four years, but now he’s back and will work for him at the town hall. Why does he smell so damn good? Frey can’t handle the situation, being attracted to his best friend’s son. Oliver is in his thoughts and dreams, every minute.
This is the world of alphas and omegas, beautiful bear shifters, mpreg, and heat, scorching heat! Wait when Oliver knocks on Frey’s door!
Dang, I loved this narrative, it’s not only about Oliver and Frey, there’s way more to this story! Frey and Oliver are quite lovable, Calvin and Barclay from book one are also there. Altogether it was an attractive story, I read it in one sitting, and enjoyed every aspect of this narrative!
I adore a sassy omega, and Ollie fits that title perfectly. 😂 Usually, OV books are hot and sweet, but Ollie and Teddy together made me laugh out loud multiple times.😍 I really enjoyed the playfulness in this story, and Roe brought his signature heat (pun intended!) to the tale. I am looking forward to more books set in Beauville!🐻 4.5🌟
These seem to be getting worse, not better. This was basically just heat sex and a little angst. They also introduced a conflict that doesn't get resolved, the ending was really abrupt, and they introduced a new character near the end. Overall, Idk if I'm looking forward to the next one, but I hope they do better.

Tempting Frey is the second book in the ‘Bears of Beauville’ series. It stars Theodore Frey, Alpha Bear, and mayor of Beauville, and Oliver, an omega non-shifting bear. This is told in first person from Frey and Oliver’s pov.
First the cover. I love it. I don’t know where the author searches or finds the cover models for the books, but they always fit. This is one of my favorites.
The blurb does a good job of explaining what the plot is about and how the characters feel about each other. I’ll add just a bit more. Oliver has known since he was young that Frey was his mate. Frey has felt an attraction to Oliver, but Oliver is his best friend’s son, and at the time Oliver offered himself to Frey he’d just turned eighteen. Frey is consumed with guilt over his attraction to Oliver, but able to resist, and sent him away. They didn’t get together until four years later.
From the beginning the author convinced me Frey and Oliver belonged together. Even before they mated Oliver was very clear he wanted Frey, but Frey felt guilty and loyal to Oliver’s father. Once they mated the story was super fluffy which I loved. Their attraction to each other was all consuming. I liked that Oliver was a confident omega and not just a submissive one. He was very competent at his job and knew what he wanted. Frey it was obvious, he wanted to do right by his best friend the sheriff, but he couldn’t deny his desire for Oliver when Oliver showed up at his door in heat. The other older bear shifters were fun personalities. Some stuck in the past, and another anxious for the secret visitor to show up.
Of course, as with the books this author writes, there is a lot of sex. As for me, I don’t need a lot of sex in a story to convey a couple’s attraction to each other, but I’m sure that other readers will enjoy it. I personally would have liked more background about the changes coming to Beauville and the interactions between the other characters in the story.
There was one issue in the book that had me confused. At one point Oliver is speaking to Calvin, the other mated omega shifter in the story. Oliver asked about the sex during heat and one thing Calvin said was: ”The heat felt kinda short, and once I was pregnant, it faded.” But during Oliver’s heat, Oliver made a point that he got pregnant right away, but his heat didn’t fade. So, this wasn’t consistent to me. Either Oliver didn’t get pregnant the first couple times he and Frey had sex because his heat didn’t fade, or he did get pregnant, but him still being in strong heat for a while after, was not consistent with what Calvin said. I’m not sure which it is. Consistency in stories is important to me, so this bothered me because it wasn’t clear.
Overall, Tempting Frey is a cute, fluffy story. I could believe in Frey and Oliver as a couple. I especially loved Oliver because he was strong, open, and devoted to Frey. However, I was confused by the inconsistency of the heat explanation and what happened with Oliver’s heat. Despite that, I recommend this book to anyone who likes reading fluffy mpreg. I’m looking forward to reading about the ‘secret’ person who bought the property in Beauville that has the bears in a tizzy. I give this story a solid, 4 Stars.
I received this ARC from the author. This is my honest and unbiased review.
**I received an advance review copy for free, and I'm leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you, author, for the opportunity.
This is the second book in a series (I was also lucky enough to review the first one, Fearless Bond), and it completely pulled me back into Roe’s captivating world.
What to expect: 📍Omegaverse 📍Bear shifters 📍Fated mates 📍Age gap 📍Dad's best friend 📍Small town romance
It goes without saying that I absolutely loved this book. It’s classic Roe, always showing me things I never knew I wanted to read. His writing has this strange, powerful ability to completely captivate me, sometimes even flirting with a very dangerous line!
Take this story, for example: the huge age gap, the "dad's best friend" dynamic, the initial rejection, the time skip for a second chance, the virginity fantasy, the heat moment, and the subsequent pregnancy… these are all tropes I’ve seen before and kinks that aren't usually my favorites. BUT. In this story, everything was so perfectly woven together. It was all justified by the world-building and the characters' internal worlds, so I honestly can't find fault with any of it. In the universe Roe built, it all just makes sense. The story is wrapped in this dreamy atmosphere that stopped my brain from overthinking the logistics or ethics of the real world.
The characters are fascinating, their relationship has amazing chemistry, and the introduction of new characters opens up so many possibilities for future books. Even though there isn't a ton of high-stakes drama, the story never gets boring. The simple, everyday life in this little mountain town was more than enough to hold my attention.
Okay, full admission: the cringe levels from the virginity fantasy were through the roof. My god, I want to forget some of the words used in that dirty talk 😂. If it weren't for the fact that the characters themselves cringed and regretted it, I’d probably be complaining. But let's be real, complaining about Roe's smut feels like sacrilege!
All in all, I found this second book even more interesting and better constructed than the first, though the first book will always have its own special, incomparable charm.
Oliver and Frey's story is an entertaining read throughout. Though, it doesn't start on a high for either as Oliver attempts to seduce Frey, his dad's best friend, on his eighteen birthday and Frey turns him down. Now back in their small town after four years at college, Oliver is a grown man more determined in what he wants. This was a fun read, pretty light-hearted. Frey tries to keep himself away from Oliver because he's basically afraid of his best friend, who happens to be the town's sheriff. It's even harder when Oliver starts to work as the treasurer for the town, as Frey is the Mayor, so there are meetings in enclosed spaces allowing for each other's scents to really affect the other. It's good to read Oliver make a friend in Calvin, omega's in a town of alpha bear shifters. He's got more confidence and self assurance since his eighteenth birthday, too, especially when it comes to his work, and it shows everyone just how far he's come. When it comes to the eventual and inevitable giving in of their mating, well Damn! That may be one of the hotter scenes I've read in a long time. Against the wall has always been a favourite to read! It's clear just how much the two mean to each other and that it's their forever. The big reveal is something to look forward to when your dad is the town sheriff! A great read from Roe that I highly recommend. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
This is definitely a case of getting exactly what you expect, no more, no less. It's top-tier omegaverse smut, with a dash of dad's best friend and bear shifters thrown in. Like all Roe Horvat books, it is compulsively readable and utterly insubstantial.
i read the first book in this series in order to read this one. this was, indeed, the superior one, but still kinda lukewarm, despite some funsies smut.
I love everything Roe Horvat writes. It Pavlovian at this point.I don’t question it. But, but it’s true, no one writes filthy romance Omegaverse specifically like him so… all the slick and the heat, all needy little whimpers, all… Imma stop, cause it’s not the place, but yea loooved it ❤️
Lovely charming little novella, traditional Roe Horvat sensuality in Alpha-Omega, bear shifters dynamics. Age-gap, father's best friend, (or flip that to best-friend's son!), fated mates (but there's my quibble...sigh. Me.)
I really enjoyed the story, it delivers as promised. Oliver has loved and then fallen in love with his father (the sheriff's) best friend (the mayor) Theodore Frey pretty much all his life. Frey of course saw Oliver grow up and would never have thought of him That Way, but...on Oliver's 18th birthday, Ollie takes a...step that really, REALLY shows him in a different light to Frey, but of course Frey does the honorable thing and Ollie goes off to college, dejected but not swayed from what he is convinced is true: Frey is his mate.
Four years later, Ollie's back in town and winds up working in the mayor's office...you can imagine the rest! Working in close proximity...first heat....I'll say no more. 😇
My quibble/thing that kinda didn't work for me is...they are fated mates. Ollie's a virgin. He has always kind of known Frey was special to him, and he couldn't bear to be with anyone else in college, it just didn't feel right.
Frey scented Ollie on That Night of his 18th birthday. But, apparently, he's had no problem continuing to occasionally hook up during the 4 years. Sorry, that just isn't my ideal fated mates situation. No one else will do for Ollie, but Frey has no problem still sleeping with other people, even though he defintely caught Ollie's incredible (to him) scent that night? Puh-LEASE. 😡
But other than that sour very briefly, not in your face, mentioned detail (yes yes, my head blows them far out of proportion!), it's a sweet, steamy and rewarding read and I enjoyed all the other rest of it.
HEA, father's best friend, fated mates, age gap, small town of some shifters. No cheating, and nothing on page for either, but, it is briefly clarified that Frey continued to sleep with other people during the 4 years Ollie's at college (yes, people, I KNOW my attitude is not healthy! Don't care! I want fated mates who are FATED MATES and no others will do once they get that hit of scent! Hrmph. Me.) Recommended, as is book 1 which was also a ton of fun to read.
Tempting Fray is book two in the Bears of Beauville series, and it delivers everything I crave from Roe’s world: low angst, high spice, and a love story that’s equal parts sweet and scorching.
Roe continues to reign supreme when it comes to crafting grumpy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside alphas. Frey is the ultimate broody bear—stoic, powerful, and emotionally constipated in the best way. And Oliver? A strong-willed, firecracker omega who’s grown from naive teen to confident heartbreaker. Together, they’re pure magic.
The setup? Oliver has been in love with Frey—his dad’s best friend, the mayor of Beauville, and the most intimidating bear shifter in the mountains—since forever. At 18, he showed up at Frey’s door in lingerie, convinced they were fated mates. Frey, being the responsible adult (and very much panicked alpha), sent him packing. Cue four years of mutual pining and avoidance... until Oliver returns to Beauville, grown, gorgeous, and impossible to ignore.
Their chemistry is explosive. The tension? Delicious. And the way fate keeps pulling them together despite Frey’s best efforts to resist? Chef’s kiss.
Roe is the undisputed spice king. His scenes are long, detailed, and never repetitive. Somehow, he blends blush-worthy heat with genuine romance, making every spicy moment feel earned and emotionally rich. I’ve read over ten of his books, and not once have the scenes felt recycled. He’s got that magic touch.
Beyond the heat, Tempting Fray is a balm for the soul. It’s the perfect read when you’re in a slump or need a break from heavier stories. Roe balances swoony romance, emotional growth, and a solid plot with just the right amount of chaos and kink. And yes, there’s plenty of both.
I devoured this in under 24 hours. Five stars, no notes. I’m already counting down to book three.
Vibes: - Omegaverse - Bear shifters - Fated mates - MPreg - Heat $ex - Age gap - Dad’s best friend - Grumpy/sunshine - Role play - $panking
This is the 2nd book in the Bears of Beauville Series. We follow a small town of Bear Shifters. These are stand alones so don't technically need to be read in order but I definitely recommend you read the first one before this because you get good background on the town and people.
Ollie has been in love with Frey for a VERY long time. He is absolutely sure that Frey is his fated mate..Zero doubts. We just have 2 *small* problems.....1. Frey is the Mayor of their small town and 2. Frey is Ollie's dad's BEST friend. Do you think that stops Ollie from going after what he wants...NOPE! So on Ollie's 18th birthday he struts down to Frey's house and is just like "take me" 🫣 YIKES. It does not go the way Ollie plans and he was sent back home and then off to college. 4 years later Ollie has completed his college adventure and is back in Beauville. Just as he gets back to town a job opens up in city hall where he would be working side by side with none other than our Mayor Frey. Ollie has not given up on Frey and is still determined to prove that they are Mates and this time around Frey may not be able to say no...😏 Ollie and Frey were just adorable 😍(really trying not to give any spoilers). The story is definitely low on the angst scale so you really do just get to sit back and enjoy the story between these two. I just adore this town and I'm so glad to be back. I love all the gossiping grumpy older bears who melt for their guys. There were so many Easter eggs through this one with new people and some not so new people 😉 I don't know whose story im excited for more next!
3.25 stars. While I believe book one in the series is still the best, this one was nice. I absolutely love age gaps and the dad's best friend thing so the premise was great, add omegaverse to it and it's the perfect combination in my eyes. Sadly, I just needed more from the execution.
The first 30% was great but then it sped up and the fated mates element did his thing. I feel like it could've been better if that happened later, because the book was in the middle of constructing their dynamic in the present. I still found them good as a pairing, but they needed more pages. The sex was hot (especially the breeding and lingerie scenes) as any Roe Horvat book.
I also feel like the whole "dad will get angry when he discovers us" could've been used way more because it was barely a tease and at the end it didn't seem like the biggest thing, when it should be in a book with this theme.
Ultimately, I liked Oliver and Frey together. I'm really loving the cast and I'm already invested into the idea of Laurel and Monty as the next main couple, feels like they'll be fun. I hope Martin gets his own book too.

premise sounded good but the execution fell short. i liked the forbidden aspect of the big age gap and the dad's best friend dynamic, but we didn't really get that? at leastnot enough, not in the way the setup promised. i expected a lot more push and pull, especially since oliver and frey ended up working together, but the conflict was resolved almost immediately, right when their workplace relationship had barely begun. oliver's heat hit after only a few days, he went straight to frey, and they mated. frey's misgivings vanished on the spot and suddenly he was all in, which felt rushed and unearned.
like i said, i was expecting more tension, more pining, maybe even some jealousy from frey if another alpha (or several) showed interest in oliver, something to slow them down, to extend the development, but instead everything was cut & dry and wrapped up by the 40% mark. the rest of the book was the mating, the confrontation with the dad (also resolved in just a couple chapters), and then the side plot i didn't care about, so i ended up stopping before the end.
don't get me wrong, i did like oliver and frey as characters, especially how bold and daring oliver was, but their relationship just wasn't satisfying. oliver did all the heavy lifting while i feel that frey really should have had to grovel a bit, or like another reviewer said, at least court him. or something. anything.
this time, the smut wasn't even that hot either, while horvant has shown he can write some pretty scorching heat/mating sex.
overall, meh. it's unfortunate because there really was something here, granted, nothing groundbreaking, but this book could have been much more than what we got.
As usual, Roe Horvat gave us another fantastic story. I just love how he always gives us feisty, empowered and intelligent omegas. He really makes sure our omegas don’t just roll over for their alphas.
Ollie has been in love with Teddy for a very long time. He’s convinced they’re fated mates, which is why on his 18th birthday he shows up at Teddy’s doorstep offering himself to him.
Problem is, Teddy is his dad’s best friend plus there’s an almost twenty year gap between them. He doesn’t want to do anything to jeopardize his friendship with Ollie’s dad nor Ollie’s future so he rejects him.
Ollie is heartbroken and leaves for college but never gave up on Teddy. He gets his degree and goes back home where his heart is. But this time he’s more mature and won’t make the same mistake twice.
Ollie being back in town throws Teddy off because he doesn’t know how much longer he can resist the beautiful omega. Rejecting Ollie was the hardest thing he had to do. His feelings for the younger man only grew stronger with the years.
Them getting together was only a matter of time or a matter of a heat in this case. Ollie knows that in hindsight Teddy was right to reject him. Getting an education was the right thing to do at the time, but now he’s not taking no for an answer.
Once he accepted they were mates, Teddy made sure Ollie was taken care of. Showing him in all the ways possible how much he was loved.
Just a beautiful and sweet story that makes you happy reading it and the spice is exactly what we’ve come to expect from Roe.
