Doom is in the Details by Eris Breaker is a hoot from the first phrasing, grabbing the reader by the metaphorical tail to zip dizzily with curious personifications. While this absurdist humor is well-crafted, the writer has wisely kept these servings as short pieces - for the whimsy can get overwhelming if consumed overmuch at one sitting. This is definitely a book to savor - where a pack of cards will need to deal with a sacred pumpkin stolen by a squirrel before they can produce an enlightenment pie. While most stories are standalones, a rare sequel involves an appliance aspiring to save breakfast history. Also, featuring a blind monk who spoke only in palindromes.
At first I was like WTF is this... Then it got funny and quippy. The after notes had me wanting to turn the page. Favorite quote “You two did fanfiction soul binding without a safety draft?” This book makes almost 0 sense, but at the same time I still understood it. Think mother goose meets mad hatter from Alice in wonderland. It is absurd
