Pendleton is being republished in order that Baptists from the past may state, explain, and defend the primary Baptist distinctives as they understood them. If people called Baptist forget Baptist history they will soon lose their Baptist principles.
James Madison Pendleton, D.Div. (Denison University, 1865), was a Baptist preacher, emancipationist, and professor of Theology at Union University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He was a co-founder of Crozer Theological Seminary in Upland, Pennsylvania.
