Not A Wink: The Vicellia Family Book 1

Rate this book
He was just a target – until my wolf decided he was a mate

Seth
I have a stalker.
Not just any creep in the shadows – he’s deep in the Italian Mafia, ruthless and relentless.
But that’s not the most disturbing part.
Something else is happening.
Something darker.
I don’t know if it’s the sleeping pills messing with my head or if I’ve crossed into some twisted dreamscape. But the footage I captured at night?
It leaves me shaken…and achingly aroused.
I should run – but part of me wants to know what he’ll do next.

Frankie
The job was supposed to be clean – extract information from the target, then walk away.
But obsession has a way of clouding judgment.
Now I can’t stop thinking about him.
My wolf wants him – claims him – and he won’t be denied.
The most delicious part? Seth doesn’t even realize what’s happening.
Every stolen moment, every silent touch, is a secret I savor.
And if he ever uncovers the truth?
It won’t matter. He’s already mine – and I never let go of what’s mine.

This story is for mature audiences only. This is a MM paranormal romance that includes somnophilia, a possessive wolf shifter, and a lot of inappropriate use of produce. This is the first book of The Vicellia Family series which follows the members of the crime family as they find love, even if it’s the last thing they want. Because in this Family, love bleeds.

1st person POV Dual
Plot 4/5
Spice 3.5/5
wolf shifter/human
stalking
Mafia vibes

Oh my! for a debut book this was great! I can't wait to see what comes next from this author!

Frankie is a wolf shifter that has no boundaries and Seth seems to get over that fact pretty quick! There are some pretty intense parts, mainly when Seth's ex shows up, so please check the trigger warning! but if you want a paranormal book with stalking, some somno, lots of drama, then this book is for you!

When I write a review I don't like to give a lot of the story away. I feel that the reader should get to be surprised as much as possible. I like to give my reaction to a story and its characters instead of telling all.
I absolutely loved this story!
Seth and Frankie are awesome. Their hot times, instant attraction, protectiveness towards each other, defense against bad and kinks were fun to read.
I honestly couldn't put it down.
There is evil in this, but it is handled VERY satisfactorily!
Sure, there is a lot of sexy times but there is a deep love, as one has with a mate.
The supporting characters of Oliver, Orson and Zeke were great to meet as well.
The descriptions of things as they are happening, good, bad and hot are very well written.
The story flows very well.
I am hoping that Zeke, Oliver and Orson all get their own HEAs. (fingers crossed)
I highly recommend this story and new author.

This was…something. I came for the somno - which I loved- but it was over around 35%, and after that they were basically in love. I know this is a fantasy/supernatural world, but maybe it would’ve been better if it wasn’t because it’s wholly unrealistic that a person who’s been raped repeatedly by an ex (their description) wouldn’t be bothered at minimum -fully distraught and broken at worst -by learning that someone was breaking into their apartment nightly and raping them in their sleep (because yeah, thats 100% what Frankie was doing). There was zero real discussion about what happened except “that was hot” and “aww he made sure I came (while raping my unconscious body)😃🥰”. I wanted normal human emotions and reactions here not just “oh I should be worried or go to the cops, but 😍he’s so hot and considerate that it’s cool. No worries!” Like there definitely should’ve been more convo about that considering what he’d been through with Jake you’d think. But nope; because it’s a fated mate story, after seeing the video proof of what’s been happening, Seth is just horny, smitten, and loving that his rapist gets him off. Right.

The ex showing up was typical predictable romance-fare, and was as unenjoyable as it usually is. I skipped the on-page rape by the ex bc who needs it? Not me.

The little bit of plot besides Jake/the ex was the letters and Seth’s uncle Cody which didn’t get resolved, nor did anyone seem to genuinely follow up on or care about Alexis’s part in Seth’s kidnapping. I don’t even know if she’s still engaged to Oliver.

Also felt like the author was setting up future stories with a host of side characters I absolutely did not care about (except the brothers Roan and Aiden. I want that story 😈).

I did skim/skip at least two scenes, fisting is NOT for me, the mating didn’t happen until the epilogue, and there were enough errors/typos that I definitely noticed and highlighted. Oh and I detested the whole Meryl scene. 2 is the max this could get, but if the next one is about Roan and Aiden I’ll definitely check it out.

I honestly dont know what to rate this book. Did I enjoy it yes. But I did feel like the author wrote this book without an solid plan.

The premise starts off with some stalking to get information from Seth about his uncle who is supposedly a rat and is in prison. Then somehow escapes from prison but at some point the plot shifts and we dont end up getting a conclusion for that. It shifts to Seth's abusive ex, which yes was sprinkled in there from the beginning and that one technically did come to a conclusion but it felt abrupt and rushed.

And then we have the mating a somno apart of this story line.

I think the somno was done well in this book. It is a pet peeve of mine when authors tag somno in their books and it's like some light touching while the other is a sleep or if they do take it further we just get a narration of it after the fact. So yes Definitely think that was done well.

I was disappointed that the mating happend at the very very end and we did not get to be there with them after the fact to see how things look like in this new life long bond.

I will also say that I felt that the characters personalities were not fully fleshed out well enough. I could not grasp Seth's personality throughout the entire book. There was no unique quirks or personality descriptors till the VERY end suck as " his punk style" or "bringing out his inner emo" " feisty boy" and it just made me more confused because of feel like these personality descriptors should be at the beginning to ground your characters and help us understand who they are.

Same with Frankie he is supposedly this big bad Black wolf enforcer of a big mafia family though he is constantly saying how he would he no match for his subordinates if it came to head??

I feel like if the plot and characters were grounded better this could of been a five star read for me.

I got this book as an ARC, and I didn't know much about it before I got it, except that it was a mafia book. But when I started reading it, I realized it had a wolf shifter who stalked his mate, and I was like, "Sign me up!" I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more in the series. If you're into dark romance, then you should definitely check this book out, but I'd recommend checking out the content warnings first, as some of them might be triggering. This is my own review of this ARC.

4.5 stars. A fast-paced story with two rather unexpected MCs. The paranormal world building was quite easy to follow, and the descriptions of various shifters were well thought out. I liked the idea of unexpected mates, which made the initial non-con much more palatable. There are a few side characters definitely worth writing into a series. I look forward to reading more by this newer author.

This was so good from start to finish the spice was ten out of ten! Seth is so sweet and I loved the progession of his and Frankie’s relationship. I didn’t really know what to expect but it was an awesome book. I don’t want to give to much away! can’t wait for Oliver’s story and to read more by Zain

God this was good!

Absolutely raving RAVING about this book.
The writing? Phenomenal. Suspiciously good. Like a pen name hiding a veteran but I KNOW this is a new author which means they’re insanely talented!

Shifter DARK romance. Somno/NC.
CHECK your triggers.
This is for the lovers of questionable content.

BIG world building, magic, shifters.

The author was not afraid to go where they needed to go with this one and it paid off.

Cannot wait for more from this author and about the rest of the characters in this world!

I've read contemporary books that came across more wolf-ie/animalistic than this.

Idk, wasn't really feeling Seth and Frankie much. Their dynamic and chemistry felt flat. The sexsomnia was fun, but I couldn't really buy how their relationship progressed once that bubble popped.

Also, TW for actual rape scene. Fuck, that was horrid. I feel like there was a lot that could've been done to keep Jake away from Seth before things got to that point, so found this all to be so unnecessary. Plot itself was non-existent really so there wasn't much to grab unto reading this.
