Marie, the adorable white kitten from TheAristocats, travels the globe in afabulous new series of books. Precociously funny, Marie takes readers on sightseeingadventures around the world, offering her petite French perspective oneverything she finds.
In Marie’s first picture book, the spunky feline givesthe reader an insider tour of her own city. Plus, there’s a purr-fect gatefoldof the Eiffel Tower.
3.5 stars. Yeah, yeah, this is a "cheesy" book published by Mickey Mouse's company but, you know what, I thought it was adorable! (I do happen to like Disney, though.) Marie is so-o pretty and perky and such a little princess; I just fell in love with her big eyes and pink bow! ;-> Her tour through Paris brings her in contact with Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower, and she speaks a few French phrases (translations in the back of the book) so a nice way to introduce kids to the city of light.
I am not familiar with the Disney films that these characters come from, so, I imagine that if you, or your little one, is, that the book would be that much richer.
As it was, I still loved the illustrations, and the characters were cute. Mostly they seemed to serve the purpose of introducing people, places, and things in France. I do think this is fantastic, and I think that it’s a great way to get fans of the film to learn a little something about the setting. There are quite a few little facts spread throughout the book.
That said, there wasn’t loads of story, pretty much the story seemed to be secondary to the facts that the book included, instead of the other way around. And while I loved the various French throughout the book, I wished there were translations for all the French.
Still, a lovely little book, and great for fans of cats, France, or both!
