This was a cute story my young kids enjoyed me reading to them. The characters show kindness, resilience and bravery throughout the story. The pacing was slow to start then the plot sped along at a dizzying pace towards the end. My kids asked a million questions that the book didn't answer. Even I was a bit confused at points towards the end. The illustrations were darling and helped my kids contextualize the characters. It was a quick, likeable read!

Thank you to the author for sharing an ARC copy for me to leave my honest review.

In this second book of the Ruby Red Paw series, Ruby Red Paw sets sail in her trusty ship, to find Otter’s Orchard and discover its secrets. Of course, like all really good adventures, things don’t always go as planned. Ruby’s patience is tried and her bravery is tested but in true Ruby fashion, she perseveres, makes friends and shares kindness along the way.
I thoroughly enjoyed this delightful children’s book as it has plenty of detail and interesting characters as well as easy to follow plot development for young readers.
I found Ruby Red Paw and the Voyage to Otter’s Orchard to be a charming, well paced book with a message of kindness at its heart.

Pirate cat Ruby Red Paw, also known as Nikki, sets sail to discover the secrets of the Emerald Apple, a treasure pulled from a legendary pirate’s treasure. But unbeknownst to Nikki, a stowaway has hidden aboard the ship, a gentle young highland cow named Davonna. Wishing for a life like Nikki’s, Davonna begs the pirate captain to show her how to successfully sail the seven seas. Together, this duo of reluctant pirate and optimistic young sailor discover there’s much more to the Emerald Apple than meets the eye.
“Ruby Red Paw and the Voyage to Otter’s Orchard” by E.P. Klopp is a thrilling children’s chapter book that strikes the perfect balance between action-packed scenes and heartfelt moments. This is my first foray into Ruby Red Paw’s world, and there is just enough recap to help the reader have a good understanding of what’s going on. Nikki has a troubled past but a good heart, and I loved seeing her develop from reluctant babysitter to protective mentor. Little Davonna is a ray of sunshine, brightening the world with her infectious optimism. Together, this unlikely duo must look beyond the surface in order to truly understand the nature of the Emerald Apple and its one true place in the world.
With numerous quality illustrations and a steady pace, this book reminds me of happy childhood days reading chapter books on summer afternoons. The book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, leaving me counting the days until the next book releases. Containing brief, mild mention of mortality and fantasy action sequences, this five star chapter book is suitable for kids 8 and up who love animals and pirate adventures. I can’t wait to set sail alongside Ruby Red Paw in the next volume!

I received an ARC from the Authors for free in exchange for my opinion.

I read this book and thought my kiddo would like it too, and she did! We enjoyed the ARC electronically so much that she needed a paperback as her own book trophy.

"This story hits so many great points that it's hard to think it's a kids book. The characters are lovable and the events are exciting with just enough backstory to keep you engaged. I read portions of this book with my daughter and she connected to the characters as well. I will definitely recommend this book to other people!"

Ruby Red Paw is determined to return to Otter’s Orchard to understand the secrets of an emerald apple-shaped gemstone. But when an adorable stowaway appears on her ship and begs to be a trainee, she must trust her to face an unexpected beast at the fabled orchard. Read this charming sequel that emphasizes kindness and giving people a second chance while facing high adventure!

I loved this story just as much as the first! I read a chapter a night to my daughter before bed. I loved the drawings too. They were sweet and added to the story. I highly recommend this book to anyone!
