My Ex's Dad

Rate this book
Lainey Parker only brought three things with her to Emerald Isle, North Carolina the night she escaped her abusive father. Her mother. Her love for the piano. And her faith.

After being free from her father’s control for nearly a year, Lainey begins to settle into a life she never thought was possible by finishing high school, having a boyfriend, and waking up to the crashing waves every morning.

Unsure of what step to take next, Lainey reluctantly takes a summer job at a local seafood shop working for Graham Fisher, her boyfriend Lucas’s father, not at all prepared for their immediate connection when her relationship with Lucas turns toxic while she battles the past, praying it stays behind her and never catches up.

adorable, interesting, and unique

You may be asking with my description why this book only has 3 stars. The main reason for the star deduction is the amount of inconsistencies, grammatical and or comprehension errors. Now with that said, I think with another round of edits this book could have been a solid 4.5 stars.

I will tell you i love this age gap, and how even though her ex is demonized you do get to see some redemption, and how she brought around such a heartfelt ending it moved me to tears there for earning it a solid 3 starts. I will say that the FMC is very based in her religion and i love how the MMC does not let her stray even though the books does seem to go by really fast in that the time line is very short, and i wish there was more.

Cute. The FMC was too good for her ex, but finds herself with some big feelings for her ex’ dad. Oops. Except this isn’t the book you think it is. She’s religious and the thing that pushed her ex away is the thing that draws in her ex’ dad: her commitment to herself and to her faith.

Purity culture is too much and thankfully this isn’t THAT book either. No one is trying to proselytize to anyone else, but there’s a whole lot of respect for each other’s beliefs that I found refreshing. The ex’ redemption arc was a little too convenient, but overall this was an enjoyable read.

Out of all of Courtney’s books, this one is by far my favorite! I fell in love with the characters right away, and I found myself relating to Lainey on so many levels. This story is a beautiful slow-burn, age-gap romance, but it’s also so much more. It’s about survival, healing after abuse, and the importance of waiting for a love that’s real and true. Graham completely stole my heart; he’s sweet, protective, and exactly what Lainey deserves. I also loved how thoughtfully Courtney developed the characters and the way their actions felt so authentic. And that ending? Absolutely spectacular.

capturing love story & healing

Story was beautifully written. God has a plan for these two that no one could break apart. There was a plan for Lainey the whole time and she didn’t know it. This is a beautiful love story of two broken people trying accept a forbidden romance that brought them healing. Awesome read!

It was okay, felt really rushed. I liked the FMC's history and the abusive father plot. But overall I felt the story had potential but needed to be longer and that the pace needed tweaked a bit. I also had issues with the heavy religious aspects, prayer and virginity fetish were just a uncomfortable combo.

Easy Read

I really enjoyed the story, and I appreciated the pace of the building relationship between the main couple. I finished it in 2 hrs.

Loved this! Graham is so sweet! The scene where he buys a flower from Lainey’s mom is my favorite. His train of thought is so endearing.

This book was so cute. Age gap is one of my favourites tropes and I loved that this had more plot as well as the spice!

Lainey was so sweet and just wanted to work hard. I loved that with Graham she felt save enough to open up to him and these parts were written so well.

Graham, well what can I say, protective from the start, open and honest with Lainey! The way he protects her & understands who she is and how to treat her well!

The cuteness to Grahams and Lainey’s relationship was so adorable, the drama that came with them well it keeps you gripped! Highly recommend this book if you love protective MMC, age gap, cuteness and a bit of drama!

3.5 ⭐️
I came across this book on TikTok and because I am a sucker for an age gap, I decided to get it on Kindle Unlimited.
And boy did it not disappoint ❤️
This book had me ugly crying. It had me hating Lucas and Lainey’s dad. After a while, my feelings towards Lucas changed but still did not like him.
It had me wondering what was going to happen next. It had me screaming and probably making my neighbors concerned 😅
I am so glad that Graham healed the parts of Lainey that were shattered due to other men.
I also found it refreshing that this book did not have them doing the deed until they were married. I do enjoy smut but this little thing was so special. Graham knew it was important to Lainey and respected her enough to wait. ❤️
I am pretty sure I will be checking out other books by this author!

Sweet age gap, ex boyfriend's dad romance.

Lainey moved to North Carolina about a year ago with her mom to escape her abusive dad. She met, and started dating, Lucas. Lucas helps Lainey get a job at his dad, Graham's, restaurant. Things don't work out with Lainey and Lucas, but she continues to work for Graham.

Lainey has a hard life but she is working hard every day to be able to achieve her dreams. Graham sees how hard life is for Lainey and decides to be her soft spot to land, which develops in to more of a relationship than either of them thought.

Lainey and Graham's relationship may not be what everyone around them had in mind, but they are a great couple and really love each other. Their story is one of heartache and sweet moments, and I absolutely loved every moment of it.
