After I read the first couple of pages, I had to go and refresh my cup of coffee because I didn't know what to expect! The author touched something dear to my heart--masking.

Shame will cause a woman to do many things, hiding behind a smile and putting up a wall are a few ways to handle emotional or physical abuse. In, Single, Saved & Searching, the author tackles the tough topic of abuse, which is often masked due to the embarrassment associated with this kind of drama. I love what Elisha, the main character, said at the end of the first chapter because she meant it and I felt it! After Elisha's altercation, she did something that most women would not have done, but you have to read it to find out. Lol #SorryNoMoreSpoilers

I found myself talking about the characters, while advising and rooting for them at the same time, hoping they would make good decisions. But, as in life, people like Chauncey's, "up-to-no-good-self" have to learn the hard way. I appreciate how the author showed strong good men in Elisha's life and how her best friend could advise her because she had "walked the walk". It's easy to be religious and rattle off rules of what someone else should be doing; but if you've only got a page it makes it hard to give true wisdom. Everybody has done something they're not proud of.

The book reminded me of the need for endurance when we are waiting on God. It seems like the line you're in is moving for everyone else but you; and maybe even somebody cut in front of you. Believe me, I know the feeling... However, when you trust God, you know He controls it all. The vital lesson in this book, for me, the WAIT is not punishment--it's process. Once we finish our process we are able to handle desires, knowing by faith God has our BEST interest at heart.

Good job, Renee, I'm looking forward to the next book. I heard it's coming soon. :-) #TruFan

This is the second book from McCoy's True Love Novella series.

It was a tad predictable but McCoy making Jesus a big part of the book and the ending made it a fun quick read.

Elisha Maxwell, the oldest Maxwell daughter, is the main character in this book. She wants a husband. She is dealing with past failed relationships including Chauncey who beat her and Will who made me squirm just reading the book. Whenever she sounded like she was choosing to start a serious relationship with Will you knew that it wouldn't work out based on his actions.

Tyler was the third man in her life. He had always been her best friend but their relationship had faded away when he was charged with assaulting a female. He was eventually acquitted but Margaret, Elisha's mom, was the DA trying to convict him. As a result of the controversy he moved away from Mississippi to be a police officer in Tennessee. He is back in town because of his mother needing surgery and he runs into Elisha.

I needed to hear the message to not give up, that God has what is best planned for you. Not in regards to finding a wife because I have a great wife but in other areas of my life. Come to think of it I had to wait a long time for God to bring my wife into my life.

He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from the Lord. ~ Proverbs 18:22

It seems to be the year of novellas at the moment, so readers if you are wanting a quick read and love to discover new Christian authors and enjoy African-American Fiction , then Renee Allen McCoy's novella Single, Saved and Searching is the book for you as we meet Elisha Maxwell - her younger sister is getting married and wedding bells have been ringing all around Elisha with her friend's weddings and now her sisters . This makes her wonder though when it will be her turn and if you are a single lady in your late 20's and upwards like myself then you too will have asked yourself this same question as you start to wonder will I ever find true love or will I be destined to grow old as a spinster ? I have to admit though I have a relationship , I am now 27 and will be 28 in July and this question crosses my mind all the time as you worry about marriage and a family and if it will ever happen to you. Elisha decides that she doesn't want to end up a spinster and so she makes it her journey and goal to find a husband or at least someone who is her perfect match . Read as Elisha goes through dating and finds two hunky men at the end of her journey but which one is Mr Right - the one she thinks is her perfect match or the guy who she never thought in her wildest dreams that he would be the one she ended up with forever ?
Readers, what do you do when you want to find Mr. Right or have you found your Mr. Right Now ?
Single , Saved and Searching was a cute romantic read that every woman who has ever questioned her relationship status and future will be able to relate too and the best thing readers is if you are wanting a quick read, then the novella size is perfect for your allocated reading time.

Elisha was just all over the place. This novel reminded me to keep our single daughters, sisters, aunts and mommas up before the Lord. Elisha wanted a boyfriend/ husband badly and she made poor choices. An educated woman but she didn’t have what she wanted most. She had a bit of immaturity working against her as well. But while she is looking all around for love, the true love has always been in her midst.

This is an awesome read that I'm sure so many can relate to on many levels. We find ourselves in compromised situations, and the guilt and shame of it all keeps us from sharing and getting the help we need from our love ones.

This book hits home for me in a big way, to the point where I sat back and reflect on my own life. I was able to see myself in some aspects of what Elisha went through. Many of us settle...settle thinking he'll change, when the truth of the matter is, he won't change and we can't be the ones to change him. When we love ourselves and trust and believe that God has us, we find ourselves not settling and in less compromising situations, especially in relationships.

I found myself talking to the characters, like they could really hear me. This book will make you laugh, it will make you mad, it will make you shed a tear, but most all, I think it will resonate with many. It's an eye opener if you are in, or have been in situations as Elisha or even Chauncey. I'm trying to say as few, as not to give the story away, but the moral of the story for me is that, God got you if you just trust in him, not half, but fully and let him lead your path.

In Single, Saved and Searching, Elisha a Christian woman with an abusive past just wants a nice Christian man. Tyler also with an upsetting past just wants Elisha to be his friend and start trusting again. They both have to learn to let go of the past and trust God for their future. I love how the writing style flows and even having flashbacks doesn't mess with it. The story line is beautifully written and the characters are very well developed. This is a great fast read. And I recommend it to anyone that is looking for a nice love story.
