Tales of Alexandria: Scroll Two

Rate this book
This is the second book in the Tales of Alexandria series. It starts cosy and ends chaotic, with sweet romance and a dash of spice.

Cosy? It was, until the swords came out.

Olea escaped from the Kingdom of Alexandria with Matthew’s help, the only person she could rely on and the one who may mean everything to her in the end.
This new world has given her things worth holding friends, love, a found family – new people she cares about and is scared to lose.
She has been running from her grief, and now from danger as well, but is running really the answer?

Matthew is more than a mysterious figure now. His presence is an anchor in the chaos. But giving in to her feelings for him comes with its own weight. What if she could come to lose him too?

But there was a reason Olea was brought to this world, and outside forces – demons, deities, and empires – are determined to pull her into their chaos.

Tales of Alexandria: Scroll Two is a stunning continuation of Scroll One and delivered everything I’d hoped for, and more.

Olea and Matthew’s journey to uncover the truth about Alexandria and the demons deepens in this instalment, yet somehow leaves even more mysteries in its wake. Their connection blossoms into a tender, grounding romance, the kind that pulled me right in and made me long for their peace, their safety, and their chance at a happily ever after.

Olea’s growing bond with Matthew’s crew brought so much warmth. The friendships and sense of belonging she finds with them created such a beautiful found-family energy, it felt like I was right there alongside them. I loved meeting these new characters and found myself completely immersed in this fairytale world, reluctant to leave its magic behind.

But of course, their mission calls, and danger finds them before they see it coming. And Alba… oh, Alba! I didn’t expect you to be the one to bring tears to my eyes! Just when I thought I might finally get the answers I was searching for, the story turned and left me reeling in the best way.

This book swept me up, wrapped me in wonder, and reminded me that even in the most beautiful fairytales, there’s purpose in every twist of the path. My heart ached and hoped all at once.

Now I need Scroll Three. I’m not sure if my heart will get its happily ever after, but goodness, I’m holding onto hope with everything I have.

I received this book as an ARC, but this review reflects my own genuine thoughts and feelings, shared voluntarily.

We pick up where book one left us, Olea and Matthew having escaped Alexandria by ship after a demon attack almost cost them their lives, and with more questions than answers following them, they are on a quest to find out more about Olea and her not-so-dormant powers.

What follows is a beautifully steady-paced story as Olea and Matthews relationship deepens while they travel, finding something within each other they never thought possible. Olea still has past trauma to deal with and has no idea how she, a human, ended up in another world with powers, and uncertainty continues to hang over their heads.

Olinda has written such a wonderfully soft love story, with the backdrop of travel, seeking answers and meeting new and old friends along the way. It does remind me somewhat of one of those cosy games where you adventure across the land, collecting information, making friends and fighting off evil.

If you love:

- chosen one
- touch her and die
- he fell first and hard
- cosy and steady-paced fantasy
- mysterious powers
- epic journey for answers
- found family
- cliffhanger ending
- political intrigue

Then add this romantasy book to your list of reads! Book one is available now. I read this one prior to official release date.

Tales of Alexandria: Scroll Two continues to expand the strange, layered world introduced in the first scroll, and I really enjoyed sinking back into it. The worldbuilding remains one of this series’ strongest points. I loved learning about all the new areas that Olea and Mathew travelled to and the new people introduced, especially Low and and the whole tribe at the end!

This 'scroll' deepens the lore and raises the stakes for Olea and Mathew, giving more insight into the characters and the demons (and other humans) threatening them. I'm excited to read Scroll Three and learn more about Olea and how she is connected to deities, learn about her powers to eradicate demons, and REALLY excited to learn about Alexandria!

That said, there were a few slower sections where the pacing lagged a bit for me, and I occasionally found myself wanting certain scenes or emotional beats to be explored more deeply. While still very engaging, it didn’t quite hit the same level of impact as I was hoping in a few places, which is why this lands at four stars instead of five.

Overall, Scroll Two is a strong continuation that will absolutely appeal to readers who enjoy immersive fantasy, mysteries, and romance. I’m definitely invested in the series and looking forward to the next scroll <3

I want to start by thanking you for letting me be a part of ARC for this second book 💖

The story picks up where the previous book left off, with Matthew and Olea on the ship heading to other countries in search of answers to the strange phenomena they've experienced.

I love the development of their relationship and how each of them has their own interests in protecting the other. They both have fears induced by their experiences that lead them to clash in their decisions. While Matthew makes it clear that he will never leave her alone and fears that she will disappear, Olea's fears make her feel like a burden and a danger to those she loves (including new characters).

I feel that the writing has improved a lot since the first book! My only complaint is that the beginning of the book felt a bit slow and repetitive, but nothing terrible.

I can't wait to read the next book 💖

I don’t know how but Olinda writing keeps becoming the best I’ve read, I am utterly obsessed with the world and characters as they’re so wholesome and comforting. I wish I was in this world as I know I could easily navigate myself around. My favourite quote is “ if you’re broken then I’ll make wire to support you and fill you’re cracks with gold, if you’re too hurt to accept others around you I’ll fill your empty room with only things you love. If you want to shut the door of your love then I’ll slip love notes and flowers under it so you’re not alone inside. I don’t expect to fill the hole that was left inside your heart but I hope you let me fill you with thing you love and enjoy” ladies and gentlemen give it up for my man Mathew for being wonderful. Thankyou for the arc copy 🥰

Well she's gone and done it again! Olinda, I don't know how you continue to make this one of my favourite series but please never stop! 💕
This book continues straight from where the first left off, with Olea and Matthew travelling away from Alexandria. We follow them through new parts of the world and discover more questions and confusing truths about the world along the way. Honestly, the world building and it's descriptions from Olinda are just stunning and so beautifully written that you can easily place yourself in the world! The relationship between Olea and Matthew definitely heats up in this book but still continue to be perfect for each other 😍
I cannot wait for the next book to see how it all plays out after that ending!
