After the last few volumes I was starting to not enjoy the series as much as I did when I first started, but this volume reinvigorated my love for it! The new characters are great the pacing felt natural, the separation anxiety the Naofumi had was touching and Rafu is an awesome character with a funny personality similar to Naofumi. I can't wait for volume 9!

Slightly better than the past few volumes, actually introducing a new twist in the plot.
I do enjoy the worldbuilding and how the narrative is progressing, it does feel like it's leading up to something epic - but I still can't get over how poorly translated some of the chapters are.

While there are less translation 'errors' throughout the book, there are instances which I can't ignore - awkward phrasing, grammatical errors - that disrupt the flow.

I do enjoy where this is going and already committed to seeing this series through the end.

Didn't expect it to really happen but wow, they put an isekai in an isekai novel! Interestingly, the Shield Hero actually finds himself crossing worlds yet again in his heroism and we are introduced to yet another new world.

The major upside of this volume is showcasing the author's world-building, albeit abbreviated in the course of trying to cram in Eastern Japanese influences while mixing with the original Western-inspired fantasy settings from the prior volumes.

On the other hand though, the writer's poor skills at character development continues to be the major downside of this series, as the MC's monologue is pretty much insufferable, with constant griping and issues of trust, despite the sense of adventure the overall story tries hard to portray.

Because of the stubborn adherence to the single POV presentation, no matter how many new characters the author introduces, it pretty much reduces them in to 2-dimensional stereotypes for most cases, which is such a waste.

Translation issues are slightly less of an issue in this volume, although still present, but at least it feels like stuff has been run thru an editor this time.

This volume falls somewhere between filler and setup. The plot is mostly throwaway stuff -- Naofumi and Rishia have been separated from their team in a new world and have to team up with a new hero to find them. Lots of inconsequential action takes place, there's an inconsequential villain, and at the end of the book Naofumi is only slightly closer to completing his mission. On the upside, though, we get major infodumps that clarify what's been hinted at for the last few volumes, and the situation with Team Glass seems to be resolved.

Kyo has escaped to another world with the Spirit Tortoise's power. Naofumi is determined to get it back. That power was meant to stall the waves, but more than that, Kyo's attitude towards the Spirit Tortoise has deeply offended Naofumi. Ost was a strange sort of friend, but she was one of the few he'd had. So Naofumi is once again heading for another world. There he finds another set of Holy Heroes, with another set of Legendary Weapons . . . and another Hero much like himself.

It's interesting to see Naofumi get a bit of a do-over in this book. He's got a new world to learn about, new powers to unlock, and even his levels have been reset back down to 1. As frustrated as he is about all that, at least now he's got the practical experience to make the most out of gaining EXP to level his way back up. The book doesn't focus too much on this, other than to set the stage and show how things here are a bit sideways to how he was used to seeing them.

Hearing myself say it all felt strange... I was the Shield Hero from another world who came from another world... How many worlds were there now? Whatever—it was the truth.

Kizuna is a fascinating character. She's got a lot in common with Naofumi, in that both of them face a hard restriction from their Legendary Weapons. She's faced some of the same types of doubters, but she never closed off as much as he did. She was never betrayed as badly. And she isn't doing it deliberately, but because she expects more out of him in terms of trusting her, he's able to feel more comfortable with her as an ally in a short period of time.

It's hysterical how Kizuna is impressed about all of Naofumi's non-combat skills, like cooking and crafting, and completely misses any combat abilities he does possess (because shields, and therefore defensive only).

I also really liked the shikigami Naofumi ends up with. It has an evil laugh! I can't wait to see what other useful skills and abilities Raph-chan ends up having. Naofumi kind of needs a pet---he didn't have much luck raising Filo that way, but Raph-chan can both amuse him and calm him down.

It's also interesting to see how old enemies are now pretty firm allies. Nobody wants Kyo to succeed, so Glass, L'Arc, and Theresa are contributing just as much as Naofumi and his companions. I like how the camaraderie is building between them. Naofumi got stuck with such sucky Heroes in his own world that it's a refreshing change to have such competent friends.

Overall this is the start of another fascinating arc. My biggest complaint is that the book feels like it ends too fast. I rate this book Recommended.

This Volume was nice change of pace. For once, Naofumi isn’t betrayed, and he doesn’t have to deal with idiots who hold major power. Falling into a trap by following Kyo into Glass’ world, Naofumi and Rishia are dumped into a labyrinth prison, separated from the rest of the Shield party. The first thing Naofumi and Rishia realize is that their levels are reset to Level 1.

So, now while trying to figure out where they are, they have to make sure they aren’t killed due to the loss of their stats, skills and bonuses. During their time trying to level up and regain some the strength they’d lost, they come across monsters too strong for them to take down. In swoops a new character, Kizuna Kazayama, the “Hunting Hero,” who fills them in on where they are (the aforementioned prison). What follows is a struggle to escape the prison, and track down Raphtalia and Filo, as well as Glass, Therese and L’Arc.

Of course, trusting Kizuna doesn’t come easy for Naofumi, as most of the people he trusts ends up hurting him somehow, so he’s a a bit antagonistic. At least he realizes that his attitude and outlook are problematic, though I’m not sure if its something that’ll be addressed moving forward. I hope he comes to be more trusting, as not everyone is out to get him. Despite the fact that he’s been betrayed quite a few times.

I did enjoy this story set in another world. An isekai within an isekai…isekai-ception. In all seriousness though, following Naofumi as he, Rishia and Kizuna search for the rest of their respective parties, well it was a fun journey. We also learned more about the other heroes, the way the vassal weapons work, and the role the heroes of world play. It’s always always enlightening when we learn more about the world(s) and how things work.

What’s the purpose of the Waves? What are the heroes to do? Can all the different worlds survive, or will they be doomed to destruction. Only time will tell how the revelations in this Volume impact things in the future.

Again, this book has a lot of typos and I will always hate on the dialogue is done. There were several instances in this book that I wasn't sure who was actually speaking.

However, while I very much prefer Raphtalia and Filo to Rishia, I really enjoyed this book. It was nice to be back to Naofumi needing his smarts and doing more than just battling a large foe (not to say I didn't enjoy the previous book). It gave off similar vibes to the beginning of the series while giving a ton of new info about the worldbuilding and lore. I really enjoyed the new characters (especially Kizuno) and the new world was super interesting as well.

Along with all the new info, new questions were raised, calling into question not only what Naofumi knew, but what some of the other characters know as well.

I'm more excited than ever to keep on reading.

Though, I just have to mention Rishia again. It's obvious something is going on with her, but I really don't like her. She hasn't changed at all and her constant cowering is annoying. Again, how has she been hanging out with the Heroes for so long but cowers at literally EVERYTHING? I have no problem with scaredy-cat characters, but her stupid 'feh' is super annoying.

Overall, this was a great book and it changes everything in terms of the Waves and what they are and whatnot. I can't wait to start reading the next volume.

Probably the weakest book so far, the repetition was especially obnoxious (something happens and like a page later it gets repeated) in this one.
Coming from the Anime and being someone who usually criticizes adaptations for leaving tons of stuff out, i gotta say the way Raphtalias part was treated was quite awful, it was a glorified summary unlike the Anime that gave her a proper episode dedicated to it, so i'd recommend anyone to at least watch S2 EP10 of the Anime, after reading the book.

And since i am already writing the review, by all that's holy why does this author add a full series recap into every books chapter 1, you can literally skip 90% of chapter 1s without losing anything.

Considerably better than the previous books. Finally, Naofumi meets another character that actually responds to his spiteful jabs in a reasonable way. And there's some good world building.
Editing is still a problem, with 2 chapter names swapped around, weird setences and duplicate words. And if you're going to reference traditional Japanese ghost stories, might as well put in some reference material so the reader can actually understand it.

I loved the new stuff this book introduces! New characters, new world, new monsters, new skills and systems, almost like I was reading the first book again!

It doesn't move much forward with the story, but it introduces a bunch of new stuff that made me look forward to read the rest, so I enjoyed either way.

*Listened to the audiobook

I find this series to be so much more enjoyable when the other heroes are not present. This story enters its version of the "multiverse" and with it some new characters and mechanics are introduced. There is some solid action along the way and a very satisfying conclusion. This might be my favorite volume so far.

In my opinion this is the weakest one so far.
Nothing really happens, the entire volume is spent setting things up. it's almost like reading the first few chapters of a series.
It's not bad but it does not leave me excited the way the others did. Here is to hoping all te setup is worth it in the next volume.

Honestly most of the book was boring because Naofomi is so focused on finding raphtalia. But the side quest with kizuna gives an interesting lore story on the other world they are in. And let's us imagine the world they are in now. So overall it was OK. Not to mention now raphtalia is bad ass with her own vassel weapon!

Good read as always. New world to explore.

I read the WN so it's really good to know more about this world that was barely touched by the WN. I'm just hoping they won't follow WN end if you know what I mean.

Quite fun again with some new characters and a new world. We finally start learning a bit about the waves tho the unveiling is slow. Naofumi seems to be puzzling about learning to develop more trusting relationships... :- )

More exposition

We're starting to see Naofumi feel more for Raphtalia! It's good to see him start to find that they are more folks he can trust... Even if they are his enemies!

Oitavo volume da série The Rising of the Shield Hero.

Stories where a character's power continually creeps upward come with a built in problem that an author will eventually have to face. How do you continue testing this character as they become more and more godlike in power? Well, the obvious answer is to not give them the power creep in the first place. Set a hard power level for them and let them use what they can already do in new and interesting ways rather than adding more and more power onto what they already have. But try telling that to Manga artists and Light Novelists from Japan. So, this problem is usually handled in one of two ways, the most common by far is to simply keep throwing more and more powerful enemies at them. But, after a while, doing this makes the concept of power completely meaningless. Your characters are always coming up against a new baddie with more power, they seek new power to help them defeat him, rise up and overcome. Rinse. Repeat into infinity so long as people are still willing to pay for it.

The second way that this is normally handled, and by far, far too few authors, is to make the power that the character has gained up to this point meaningless in some way. They lose their power. They come up against an enemy that just can't be beaten by the use of their power. Their power has become too destructive to their own body and they can't use it without serious self harm. Or a hundred other such ideas. And then they have to find other ways to deal with and overcome their enemies, causing them to develop other skills, or solve problems through more peaceful means. Or they simply have to start over from the bottom. I feel that this way is the better of the two, because it offers unique opportunities for characters to grow in new and interesting ways that they otherwise wouldn't have been able to had they kept the godlike power that they had accumulated. The person that they are gets to shine through, and you get to see them work through problems in ways that they normally wouldn't have to.

So, the author of this series, thankfully, chose the second option, which I quite enjoyed. Naofumi is stripped of most of his power, and even his most useful allies, and has to make new alliances, learn how to progress in an entirely new world, and regain the power that he has lost. It offers him opportunities to use his head, and show us who he really is, and how he's grown as a character over the previous books, which I quite enjoyed.

If only someone had thought to take a few hours to proof read this book before publishing it.

Naofumi gets isekai-ed... again!

When Naofumi came into new the world as the Shield Hero seven volumes ago, a lot happened: he got accused of rape; got his reputation shunned; got a loli slave; barely helped on a wave; got cheated in a fight with Spear Boy; got loli angel; acquainted with a royal loli; accused of murdeing said royal loli; nearly killed in another wave; exiled in a demi-human village; met the leader of the angel lolis; vowed to angel loli leader about working the Three Idiot Heroes; branded as a Demon; exposed a corrupt religion; inflicted a curse upon self; got his name cleared; acquainted by the Queen; went to a mini-vacation; almost got rekt in another wave; made an enemy from another world; got a nerd in the party, still female; trained with a knight and ana martial arts expert, both female; carried the responsibility the Four Heroes should have shared; barely surviving not one but several giant Tortoise attacks.

And now he, his party, and his out-of-this-world enemies travels to another world. A new world where Naofumi and his nerd Rishia are back at level and accompanied by a Holy Weapon Hero of the new world.

Most of this novel seems like a remake of the first four volumes, faster-ppaced since Naofumi learned how to adapt in his third world faster after his time during the second world.

The best part is that we get to see Raphtalia in a miko outfit and wielding a katana. So far the development is great, but his enemy is anither book to deal with.
