Forest of the Sasquatch IV: Redemption

Rate this book
The unforgettable finale to the Forest of the Sasquatch saga begins here.

After the carnage in Duluth, the survivors of the southern Sasquatch clan are scattered and broken. Grief and near-extinction drive them from Superior National Forest into a brutal westward trek. Snow buries the ground in peril, rivers conceal death beneath thin ice, and rival clans and prowling predators hunt the same meager prey. Every step forward is a fight for survival.

The journey strains their resolve, frays their tempers, and tests the fragile bonds that may be the only thing keeping them alive. In the heart of the wilderness, Matto chooses to stop running and stake a claim for what remains of his clan. Yet the shadow of Aluk’s violent legacy lingers, and Matto is haunted by the fear that leadership only leads to ruin. But survival demands more than strength. It demands protection, wisdom, and sacrifice. A younger voice urges him to see another way, forcing Matto to confront what kind of leader he will become. Can he rise as the protector his clan needs, or will he watch the last of his people fall around him?

Once a blade in another's fist, now he learns the hand is his.

My scoring system

⭐⭐ It was tough to finish

⭐⭐⭐ A solid read

⭐⭐⭐⭐ That was fun!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I need more. If you don't give it, I'm going to kidnap you Misery-style, without shattering your ankles, of course.

The Bigfoot community – although I am not a part of it - appears to be an easy going group, invested in pursuing that one unified goal: proving the existence of Bigfoot (or whatever you want to call it). On the other hand, opinions on certain aspects differ wildly; is Bigfoot terrestrial? Is it an alien? Is it something from another dimension? Is it merely an animal, running on instinct or is it closer to man than we realize? Those are just a few examples but in Luka T. Jacobs' world, a few things are clear: Bigfoot is certainly terrestrial and it certainly is not a 'mere' animal, running on instinct. They have their own family groups, they have a hierarchy and they have a language. We've seen elements of these attributes in earlier novels, but as this novel predominantly focuses on the survivors of book 3, I was quite curious how this would work.

Besides the familiar Matto and Kara, a new face emerges in this book: Brak; a juvenile Bigfoot. The story picks up after the events of book 3. The group of survivors returns home, eager to pick up life after the horrifying events in the previous novel but alas, things are not over for them yet.

Without divulging too much of the plot, I can safely say that this book does indeed, as mentioned by the author earlier, focusses mostly on the Bigfoots themselves. There are human characters in the book, but merely in a supporting role, if you will. Jacobs has taken a gamble with this approach, because incorporating the Bigfoots' social structure and such to supplement a storyline is one thing, but to completely focus on the Bigfoots' characters is something different entirely.

I am more than happy to say that it worked out wonderfully. Despite the – compared to humans – seemingly limited and sometimes even awkward way of communicating, it flowed nicely. The difference in characters came through well and Jacobs managed to create a fascinating story, in which I had no problem investing in the characters on an emotional level.

It was a wonderful and (seemingly) fitting ending of this series. On the one hand, it's always a bit of a disappointment when a good series comes to an end, but I'd rather have it end on a high note and not to be dragged on indefinitely. Jacobs certainly managed to do the former.

Great Finale to Forest of the Sasquatch.

If, like me, you have an interest in the Bigfoot phenomena. Luka's books, although fiction, are based around ideas generally shared within the field of Bigfoot research.
Redemption gives you an insight into what it may be like in the daily life of a Bigfoot. Especially being that Luka makes the Bigfoot sentient beings.
Living within a clan system, with a hierarchy, rules, specific duties, hunting, bringing up their young, avoiding contact with humans, and generally protecting the clan. Makes you consider how these elusive cryptids may have for all these years avoided detection.
Also, in her books, Luka has given the Bigfoot their own language, very much along the lines of the Ron Moorehead, Samurai speech patterns, recorded back in the 1970s known as the Sierra Sounds.
In all, Luka's books bring fiction to life and make her Bigfoot characters more believable and interesting. So, if you haven't read any of Luka's books, I can only say that you are in for a real cryptid treat.

Wonderful series. .

I was so invested in the characters it was said to end. I wanted to see them rule, the young one grow and have more adventures, maybe befriend the hairless one.

Amazing

Miss Jacobs is a master story teller. She imagined a world so real you must fall in. The sasquatch are real and alive. Thank you.

Best of the 4

Enjoyed all 4 in this series but this was the best of the 4. I have found a new favorite author in this genre.
