A truly inspirational, historical romance. Two who should be enemies may discover love. In AD 70, the Roman commander Titus marched through Palestine, leveling the once beautiful city of Jerusalem. For Samah, a young Samaritan woman caught inside Titus's siege wall, it was the beginning of three years of suffering. Now, though, having unwittingly saved the life of a dog belonging to a powerful Roman tribune, Samah finds herself bound for Rome as the dog owner's slave. Time after time, the strange dog comes between Samah and disaster - and she begins to suspect that perhaps God has put this dog in her path for a reason. Soon, she loses her fear of her master and senses a powerful attraction between them. Did God send this dog simply to help Samah reach an arrogant tribune with the truth of His Word? Or could there be more to their unusual relationship?
Darlene Mindrup has always had a love of writing and an active imagination. Years of journalism classes and homeschooling her children gave her the tools to make her writing better and more professional (and with a lot less errors). She has a love of history that comes through in her novels, especially Bible history and World War II.
What really prevented me from giving it a 5 star rating was the fact that we didn't really get to see how the male lead came to be a Christian. I mean, I know he was thinking about some of the things the others told him about Christ and everything but what brought the change of heart? One of the things I really enjoy in Christian fiction is seeing the characters get saved in a realistic manner. I want to see how the word of God impacted them and went deep into their hearts where it grew from a small seed into a flourishing tree that bears fruit. So not seeing more than a hazy glimpse of that was no little disappointment.
a historical fiction masterpiece that transported me to ancient Jerusalem and Rome. As a Jewess and a Christian, I have a deep appreciation for stories set in olden time periods, and Mindrup's expertise in crafting immersive, faith-filled tales shines through on every page.
Samah's journey from Samaritan woman to Roman slave is a thrilling adventure that explores the complexities of faith, identity, and redemption. Mindrup's writing is evocative and nuanced, bringing the sights, sounds, and emotions of the ancient world to vivid life.
What resonated most with me was the exploration of Jehovah's presence in the darkest of times, and the power of faith to transform even the most unlikely of relationships. As someone who has experienced the beauty of Jewish and Christian traditions, I was deeply moved by Mindrup's thoughtful portrayal of the intersection of faith and culture.
If you're a fan of historical fiction, clean romance, and inspiring stories of faith, 'Captive Heart' is as lovely as a book can come!
Wonderful love story filled with scriptures that related to the incidences. Recommended reading for those considering marriage. Love is more than a fuzzy feeling. It has to be tried
I loved this book! I still remember (over a year later) that it was amazing! Ms. Mindrup manages to enthrall me time after time with her godly characters. The strong women in her books are truly inspiring.
I really couldn't get into this book. Even though its short, maybe 165 pages, was just something that I felt hard to get into because of the way it was written.
