Once again, Scarlett has managed to give us another 5 star book in the story of Jeremy & Lilly. In this book, we see a side to Jeremy that has remained hidden up to this point. There is a big shift in the tone of their relationship! We do not see any physical violence toward Lilly in UY5, but there are still manipulations in the works. If you have read Uncovering You 1-4, I highly recommend you pick this one up as well. This book was definitely worth the wait for the re-write, and a lot of vital information and answers are given to us. I am an impatient person, but I have to say, I can not imagine this story being any better than what Scarlett has given us here.
SPOILERS We start where we left off at the end of UY4. Lilly is in the dark. Everything has been taken away from her. She may have despised her captivity in the past, but now, her world is more cold, dark and lonely, than ever before. When her punishment is over, things have changed.....
Scarlett Edwards definitely picked the perfect title for this installment: Confessions con·fes·sion [kuhn-fesh-uhn] noun 1. acknowledgment; avowal; admission: a confession of incompetence. 2. acknowledgment or disclosure of sin or sinfulness, especially to a priest to obtain absolution. 3. something that is confessed.
In Uncovering You 5, we get many things from Jeremy that we have been aching for from the start. Jeremy begins to open up to Lilly about himself. He allows her to speak her mind more freely without fear of consequence, but calls her out when she's pressing her luck. We get to see Jeremy reign in his emotions when he begins to lose control. Where, in the past, he has punished Lilly as a result of him losing control. Jeremy shows a lot more emotion and affection towards Lilly, and he does so freely. He seems to be genuine in his desires for her and he speaks of a future with her. His future does not include contracts and collars or TGB's.
In UY5, Lilly seems to gain her focus and begin to plot ways of revenge against Jeremy. A huge question is answered in this installment as to where their pasts intersect. We get the answer, but not resolution from it. It is clear that when Jeremy reveals this commonality from their past, that he is very proud of the shock and chaos he has created for Lilly. Jeremy maintains that he has feelings for Lilly and wants her around for "more". Many new questions arise as a result of the information we receive in this book.
We are introduced to Charles, Jeremy's Chef, in this installment. Not much is given to us about him. I am curious though . . . when he first met Lilly, he looked to Jeremy for permission to shake her hand. He bowed when he met her and when he left the room, even though he was accompanying them for dinner. Rose talked about Lilly's time "away" as though it were her choice, but she knows where Lilly was and why. I think that Rose was vague so that Charles would not be aware of the truth. I have many questions about Charles.
Jeremy takes Lilly away for a week together without interruptions. The vacation ends up being wonderful. Lilly has a great time with Jeremy and they enjoy their time together. Then, Lilly has an accident and gets hurt. This ends up being a turning point in their relationship. Jeremy realizes how important Lilly is to him and stops hiding it with all of his control. A big step is taken and both Jeremy and Lilly are put to the test.
We are left at the end of Uncovering You 5 with an idea of what is coming, and a threat of the consequences if it does not go the right way . . . "If so much as one toe steps out of line... Well, nothing that you've been subject to in the past will compare to what I'll do to you then."
I am very excited to see how this plays out in Uncovering You 6!
Thank you Scarlett for another captivating book! I can not wait to see what you have for us next!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
After liking the first four this one confounded me. Im lost and baffled at what is going on. Jeremy is mercurial and delusional.....and sociopathic. Lilly is an idiot. As soon as she got that stupid thing off she should have high tailed it. I'm not sure what to think of this new turn but I'm not buying any more until this is finished. I've paid fifteen dollars so far and I don't know any more than from where I started. This book is beyond normal pricing, and I'm not sure how many installments there will be. So I'm sticking this on my to be read list, I'll see what it is and the reviews when it's finished.
Well to me the wait was not worth it, I was disappointed. I loved the first four, but this one I thought was just okay. It seemed liked it was trying to hard to be shocking in the beginning. The rest was pretty tame & boring compared to the first four books. IDK maybe it's me, I'll still be reading the next one though .
He turns away. “I think we need to go back to where we began, Lilly flower. I think the separation made you forget exactly who you are. I think” he twists back, and his eyes shine at me, “that you need to be left in the dark again.” Right on cue, all the lights turn off. Livid and outraged, is the best word I would use to describe what I'm currently feeling. Goes to show you just how awesome Ms. Scarlett Edwards really is! This book is emotionally dark, sexy, suspenseful. The kind of chills that slithers down your spine, and makes you weary to read at night, when your home alone. Jeremy Stonehart is a delusional, sadistic, evil psychopath! I hate him.....I hate him! The man has such a god like inferior complex, that he makes Charles Manson look like a saint, minus the murdering aspect! There just no redeeming qualities to him at all. Lilly is showing a major case of Stockholm Syndrome. Since when is rape or the body's forced physical response of pleasure, considered making love? The very notion she was thinking along those lines, made me ill. Yet I admire her strength in not seeing herself as a victim, but rather a survivor. (Lilly) Just as I’m turning back, I catch my reflection in the glass. I turn and face it.“You're a survivor,” I whisper. “You’ve gotten through everything Stonehart has thrown at you, barely the worse for wear.” That might not be entirely true. But, I need to make my self believe it. Otherwise, I’m afraid I’d risk a real mental break down. I sooooo can't wait for book six!
Like always Scarlett Edwards, leaves me wanting more... I have read so far all of the series of uncovering you . And i love it ,sometimes its a bit tense and hard to digest how rough Jeremy is !! But i just cant get enough , this whole story intrigues the bejesus out of me i am so curious to know everything about Jeremy and Lilly, and for me they just keep getting better ! How Jeremy opens up a little more in every book , and how Lilly keeps plotting her revenge which i don't blame her because the dude is a bit unstable and cruel !! But when he wants to be prince charming he really knocks your socks off ! So i totally love it and cant wait for the next book!! Hurry hurry pls!!!!
Poor story progression, in spite of all the new information given, it is still unknown WHY Lilly was taken. She obviously has no idea of any direct involvement in whatever injustice Jeremy feels he must revenge.
Jeremy is a sociopath and I am disappointed that Lilly did not use the opportunity when meeting her BEST FRIEND's MOTHER to enlist help for herself, and escape from this madman.
The events in this book are not making any more sense than they have in the first 4 books and there are untold books yet to be written and published.
It is unfathomable to me that this could evolve into a love story. Given that Lilly did not seize her first chance to run like hell, hopefully, without enduring too much further abuse, she will be able to make her escape and enact payback for all she has gone through.
I was not happy how the release date was pushed back with this book, however im SO glad it was! This was another 5* book. I loved it. I still hate Jeremy. Like reallllly hate him! I want Lily to get her revenge. We learned abit more in this installment, but we still have lots to learn about why Jeremy is doing this to her. Can't wait for book 6 now. -------------------
I do not know what confuses me more about this series, the fact that I have no idea what to expect and what genre it is or the complete wishy-washiness of both Stonehart and Lilly. Yes some questions were answered but the additional information did nothing but annoyed and confused me more. I tried to stick with this, but it is time for me to walk away. This is getting too expensive for this story to continue to go on the path it is without any forward momentum being achieved. And I find I am liking Stonehart less and less as it goes along, and while my sympathies lie with Lilly, she is becoming just as unlikeable as Lilly. It's too bad, because this story seemed to have such potential. Perhaps if it was not considered a contemporary romance, which it is not, there is NOTHING romantic about this story, it would have had a better survival rate, but oh well...
I only give this a 3-star rating because this portion did offer some insight, unfortunately it did not offer enough insight to try to figure out where the author is going with this story. This is five parts and I still have no clue to what to expect. It is as if the characters are deteriorating more and more. At this point in the storyline it should be heading toward the heart of the story, every time I think either of them takes a step forward, in the next paragraph/chapter they regress five steps back. I just cannot follow this anymore. This is turning into a money-grabbing waste of my resources.
This book begins with Lilly in trouble, yet again. She's been stuck in the dark, with only 15 minutes of light each day to shower and perform basic hygiene before she has to dash back to her chair in the tiny "safe zone" that Stonehart has set for her, or bzzzz goes the collar. It seems that Jeremy has returned to his old more sadistic self again.
Lilly resolves herself to getting revenge after her latest punishment. However, it seems short-lived once Jeremy shows her a softer side. I get the sense that Lilly is falling in love with him despite her best efforts to hate him.
There are some BIG reveals in this book, but not enough to let you figure out exactly what is going on or why Stonehart has chosen Lilly. Paul's true relationship to Lilly is revealed. Much to my surprise, Paul is not Jeremy.
Stonehart seems more human for most of this book. However, by the end he is back to his usual cruel demeanor. His mood changed so swiftly that my head was spinning by the end. This installment seemed very reminiscent of Aleatha Romig's 'Consequences', which is a favorite of mine. I cannot wait for the next book!
I have read the first 5 and I can't wait for the last one! I am giving this 4.5 stars. It really deserves a five because this series is addictive and reading about psycho J and the poor heroine. This is a romance or at least it's in that section but I don't think it's possible for there to be a happy hea. J is a sadist and is one sick puppy. I like reading about his type of crazy but only in books. And not on the terms of a hero, but the bad guy and I keep hoping she will escape. I am guessing he will be forgiven because the heroine is always forgetting his cruelties Ex: the dove! These offenses are too much to ever forget or allow him to be the hero and for that I can only give it 4.5 stars. I will be reading the next one!
After reading the fifth book in this serial, I've decided not to read the upcoming books until the series is completely finished. That is if I decide to pick it up again at all.
At this point the villain (no way is he a hero) is beyond redemption. What he has inflicted upon Lilly is unforgivable no matter what his motivations are. And despite their seeming innocence, I do not believe that his house fairies, Rose and Charles, are unaware and inactive in his vengeance against Lilly.
Even though, Lilly is unlikely to escape, I hope she never breaks, never falls for her captor, and gets her own vengeance.
STORY So far, this is the longest and most thorough book in the series yet - lots of exciting things happens in this one! Once again, Jeremy demonstrates the levels of cruelty he can stoop to in order to control and punish Lily, creating a fascinating, entertaining installment! Interestingly, he also reveals his softer side in this installment. Although he does share some secrets with Lily, he still hasn’t revealed his underlying motives and by the end, we still don’t know whether this will end up being a Stockholm Syndrome story or not. The suspense of not knowing what is going on is killing me (and keeping me glued to this series)!
PERFORMANCE Amy Johnson continues to deliver a believable performance yet she also continues to mispronounce words, this time mispronouncing the words, “epitome”, “ethereal” and more. She really needs to stop guessing and use www.pronunciation.com!!!
Just when I thought I would forever hate the monster that is Stonehart, he flips again to one of his multiple personalities and he becomes a decent man... is this man for real? Is he all an act? Why is there such an attraction to such a complex character?
Lilly is such a survivor. She is bound and determined to live through this ordeal and extract her revenge. In the meantime, as she is taken on this unprecedented journey with Stonehart, she discovers a facet of him he has kept hidden. Can this man really have a vulnerable side? Is it possible he is falling in love with her? Or is this just an obsession?
Scarlett Edwards has once again blown me away with her gift for storytelling. For those of you who like their stories with a sharp edge and the complexities of the psyche, this story will not disappoint. I am now looking forward to the next installment where I hope we will discover more of this complicated man and his obsessions.
This book was as good as the others. As I said in my review of book 4, I'm tired of these serials. I want complete books. This one was 2.99 which is WAY too much for such a short book. That being said, it really was quite good. I know the author is reading these reviews for what the readers want in the next book, I have to say this is the only series where I've ever wanted the heroine to kick some hero ass! I SOOOO do not want her to end up with this jerk. I think he's past saving.
Ugh!!! I want to know now what happens... Man how can Lily do it, but at the same time Jeremy.. What are you up too... Are you really true to what you are saying, Lily is such a strong woman. Ok 6 please get here soon!
So as this is a 10 book series, I thought it best to read them all before reviewing. It makes no difference in regards to a review or opinion in a lengthy series such as this if book one is fabulous and then book 7 sucks lemons, or the whole series turns out to be utter rubbish! Which this one did.
So Lily is a self made Junior at Yale when she wins a contest that has her receiving numerous summer internship offers before her senior year. Being fully self-reliant since she left home for college, disowning her alcoholic mother and never knowing her father, she is overjoyed to receive a job offer following the internship. But suddenly it falls through and she is left with nothing, too late to go back to school, no apartment, no money. She takes a strange personal meeting with the CEO of one of the most successful companies in the country. Next thing she awakes in a dark room tethered by a string to a pillar with some type of collar around her neck. She is starved, electrocuted, and raped by her captor until she relents signing a contract of servitude. She discovers her captor to be Jeremy Stoneheart, the dashing and successful CEO she met with before being drugged and kidnapped.
The author loves three things: to hear her characters talk to themselves in rambling inner musings that make absolutely no sense, she loves the word discomfiting, and owns a thesaurus. Some of the words she uses make no sense and are utterly ridiculous, if not misused altogether. I stayed with this series until book 9. 9! I kept hoping there would be a crazy big shock or reveal that would redeem all of this silliness. But honestly, by book 7 I was kind of voting for Jeremy to screw her over well and good because Lily is too stupid to be allowed to live. The only thing to know is that this series will cost you $28.92 in its entirety, so maybe it's not Lily who is really the idiot, but me for spending $24.93 on this crap. And maybe the author is really a genius after all.
Spoilers to follow...SPOILERS BELOW...Spoilers! ******************** ********************
Now, Jeremy rapes and humiliates her at every turn. Molding her and forcing her into his service. He is very mercurial, actually more like schizophrenic with his moods. Not long into this, he declares true feelings for Lily and then calls it love after she suffers an accident and nearly drowns. Now, he removes the collar and slowly gives her space and freedom, on,y at every turn she finds out he's watching or something similar. Not really free. He cheats on her, blind folds, gags, and kicks her into a closet so she can hear him have sex with another woman immediate,y after sharing a tender and seemingly emotional day with her that had convinced her he may be changing to the better.
All along, our idiot Lily convinces herself she is staying and playing this game to get back at Jeremy. But she spends so much time trying to convince herself of this, it's boring! She tells herself she needs to gain his trust and get close to him to "ruin" him for her revenge, and bides her time knowing this will take a while. Except when she has the chances to learn more about Jeremy, even if there just rumors and speculation, she turns her nose. Once with her best friends fiancé, an investigative reporter! Who was begging her to listen to all he had uncovered about her new boyfriend! Seriously. The second was from Jeremy's own father. She justified this because Jeremy and dad were adversaries. Still, who better to get dirt from?! And all this was after Jeremy admitted to drugging her and trying to make her think she was insane. What did she do? Verbally spar with him and then had sex with him! Now, why her? Well Jeremy admits early on the reason, revenge. Apparently, Lily's father, whom she never knew, had an affair with Jeremy's mother and broke her heart. His mother died in a house fire at Lily's father's home waiting for her lover. That's it. Jeremy manipulated and stalked Lily based solely on this, and has made all these covert plans to destroy her. Even knowing her father had never had any role in her life and she did t even know who the hell he was! Lame.
He kidnaps her. Starves her. Rapes her repeatedly. Electrocutes her repeatedly. And even admitted to doing it because he could, not because she broke one of his rules. Cheats. Slaps, pushes, and kicks her. Drugs her. Repeatedly. And tells her every time. So really shame on her after the first time, right? Hires someone to get close to her mom. Remands her father to a mental hospital where he is now insane and is also collared and shocked repeatedly because Jeremy feels like it. Breaks her arm. Isolates her from her friends. Hires someone to rob her. Admits to her his plan was to make her fall for him and be completely dependent on him and then drop her ass on the street. Plays Russian roulette with her. Gun was absolutely loaded!
I know I am forgetting some other stuff, but this is enough. Or you'd think this would be enough that you or I would be DONE. This idiot goes back to him.
Definitely, this is my favorite book thus far. I love how the story progressed. Out of the five books, this is the one where revelations happen. You get answers - lots. Of course, like every story until the ultimate finale, you will not get everything. It doesn't change how phenomenal the reading was.
The only let-downs and unfortunately, a major one for me, were the lack of sex scenes in details - hehe. It felt like I was reading a teenage fiction novel where the scenes had to be censored. THOSE ARE IMPORTANT. I READ FOR THOSE SCENES.
I loved Jeremy in this book; I have a love-hate relationship with him. At the end of the day though, I absolutely adore the man. Personally, I love how Scarlett does not completely give a 360-rotation - he cares about Lily, but he still controls her. The collar scene, I felt, was extremely moving and powerful and in my opinion, was definitely the most pivotal advancement in the story. No doubt, Jeremy is cruel, but still... the man draws you in and gives you this thrill.
Alright, highly recommend. Like I said, the best book out of the entire series thus far. I am anxiously awaiting for the sequel. Definitely something that defers from all the others Dark Romance novels. You won't regret it! If you are into dark romance, this one is for you. The problem people have with the story is the abusiveness and sadism. Understand that this is not a traditional love story; it is not contemporary. People are criticizing Jeremy's cruelty when it is your fault when you went into the book expecting Christian Grey or the likes of him.
Confessions begins with Stonehart punishing Lilly for lying and sneaking around. Lilly still feels slighted by a man she hates but secretly has a capacity to love. After being punished Stonehart begins to reveal a lighter side of himself but beware! As we know by now in this series Stonehart is truly sadistic inside.
I really enjoy each unique plot addition or twisted event that the author adds in each installment of Uncovering You. This installment is no different and has a shocking twist that you won't see coming! This is the longest part yet and a lot of new info is included and I enjoyed the change of pace and setting.
One thing I struggled with was the book alternates between non consent and absolute consent without reason...In Lilly's mind she drastically changes her feelings and I don't personally think Jeremy (Stonehart) has given us (Lilly & the readers) anything to feel romantic about. I think a dubious consent angle would have been better for the storyline.
Also, although I am interested in the plot and what is coming at the end I've reached a point of disconnect with the characters- I have lost interest in them and cannot relate to their struggles or triumphs. This is troubling to me as a reader.
All in all Confessions was an enjoyable read and I will continue on with the series to have all of my questions answered and to learn the fate of dear Lilly.
There were some discoveries in this one, but very little. What concerns me is that I have seen in the author's Facebook page that she is not sure if there will be a book 7, etc. I just finished book 5 and I feel like at least one question of the 50 I have should have been answered at this point. Does the author know what direction she is taking the story? Sometimes I feel like the author is writing while flying by the seat of her pants.
How long has Jeremy been following Lilly? Who was involved in the capture of Lilly? Why does Lilly have to where a pin that Rose is entitled to listen to? Why does Jeremy have Lilly captive besides just wanting her? Is Jeremy seeking vengeance and that is why he took Lilly?
Is Rose in on everything and just acting innocent?
I hope all these questions and more are not all answered in the last book in 165 pages.
Uncovering You 5: Confessions is the latest installment in the erotic thriller series by author Scarlett Edwards. After high anticipation and eager excitement, I raced through wanting to learn more about Stonehart's psyche. Secrets are revealed, leaving more questions and more torment. Lilly continues her quest to find the truth behind Jeremy's ultimate plan. Their "romance" turns yet another corner and Lilly is forced to dissect her current existance versus the outside freedoms that she once held. Stonehart's mind games reaffirm that he is the ulitmate sociopath. The author takes us into those dark places that are uncomfortable and chilling. This is the best novella so far in the series and is sure to please it's dedicated readers. 4.5 stars for adult audience!
I have loved this series and this book scored a strong 4 1/2 stars with me. With that said, I am on the fence on whether or not I will continue all the way through the series. I think the dark Jeremy makes for some interesting reading, but I am not sure I want to continue with "nice Jeremy." (What does that say about me?) In my mind Jeremy could never undo all the wrongs he did to Lilly and still have the story make sense. It leaves me scratching my head how an H (Jeremy)can try to kill the h (Lilly) and then suddenly all is forgiven and they are in love? I am not giving spoilers because I haven't read further into the series, but it seems to be going in that direction. Signed, On the Fence
I'm really looking forward to the next book in this series, Jeremy I really want to find the good in him but every time I start to soften towards him he goes right back to being a nasty prick that I just want to hit. Lily sometimes I just want to shake the girl, open your eyes and stop falling for him , she started out so strong I just hope she gets her revenge and stonehart gets his comeuppance. Not sure how many books are in this series I just really need to know why behind Jeremy stonehart's actions.
I've read all the books so far and still I have no words. don't get me wrong I love the books. but God in heaven the man is truly a sociopath. I want to know him and I don't believe for a minute his family did this to him. he was born this way. I put the book down a few times just so I could yell out loud at the craziness that is Stoneheart. saying that, please release the next installment quickly before I become crazy. I need to know!
I need to think about my rating and review for this one. This is so fucked up! Really I don't know if I have to be impressed or pissed. I don't know what to think here!
this series has my head spinning it's totally messing with my mind lol I don't know how I feel about Jeremy one minute I hate him then like him can't wait to see what's going happen next but I so want more and can't wait need to know why Jeremy took her in the first place for me this book was tame compared to the first 4 but.... Was nice to see another side to Jeremy even though I don't think it will last
