Oboist Sara Baron expects to spend the first weeks of her maternity leave nesting, baking Christmas cookies, and napping on the couch with her beloved cat. Her plans take a horrifying turn when her friend’s car plows through the window of the coffee shop where they agreed to meet. The police deem it an accident, but Sara isn’t convinced. She expects this was murder! Just an hour before her tragic death, her friend claimed someone was out to kill her. She was right! Now her friend’s newborn baby will grow up without her mom. Even worse, Sara suspects the baby’s father, a successful dermatologist, of orchestrating the murder. Can he be trusted to raise their daughter? Three weeks until her due date and Sara is determined to deliver the truth.
I really like the series but Sarah was way over the top in this one putting herself and their unborn child in danger over and over. The family dynamics are about to change so that will be interesting, however, overall it’s a good read
Expecting Murder is a fascinating, twisted, cozy mystery. There are so many secrets uncovered as Sara investigates the death of a young mother that the authorities are all too willing to call an accident. The secrets lead to so many suspects that it kept me frantically turning the pages. Sara, one of my favorite characters, is just three weeks from her due date while she is trying to investigate which just adds to the drama. I do not want to give anything away so I am just going to say that you should read this well plotted book! I did not get much else done until I reach the end of the mystery!
This is the fifth book in the series. What I enjoy about this series is the no-nonsense approach Sara & her friends take in resolving mysteries. They are acutely aware of the dangers involved. For Sara, it’s the truth and justice that drive her.
In this episode her BFF’s sister is killed shortly after giving birth to her daughter. Is it an accident or was it murder? Since this is a cozy mystery, we’re pretty sure it will be determined a murder. So, who and why are what we are looking for.
I loved the pool of suspects, so vast. There was plenty of motive on the parts of the suspect. I read this in one sitting. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.
Looking forward to the next book. I was given an advanced readers copy. These are my own opinions.
This was a fast-paced cozy mystery with a very pregnant amateur sleuth. Sara witnesses the demise of a friend after an unnerving phone call. The police are happy to rule it an accident but some things don't add up. Sara needs to solve the case before her water breaks and stay safe while doing so. Good thing she has some help along the way. A number of twists and turns kept me turning the pages. This cozy can be enjoyed as a standalone.
I enjoyed this book. Throughout the book you’re left wondering if Sarah will be able to solve the mystery before she delivers her baby. We finally meet get to meet Travis’ mother. This mystery has lots of twists and turns which will keep guessing until. I recommend this book.
