Relapse by Nova Kane absolutely body slammed me into emotional damage and then had the audacity to look hot while doing it.
Nova really said “you thought Overdose was chaotic? Hold my tequila.” Because WHAT WAS THAT ENDING??? Respectfully??? WTF??? Nova really threw a grenade into my brain and walked away. I finished this book staring at the wall like Blair after every questionable life choice.
“His eyes track me. Slow. Steady, like he’s not surprised. Like I’m his favorite fucking fix.”
EXCUSE ME??? Your honor, I folded immediately.
This book is literally enemies to enemies to horny to trauma bonding to enemies again and I ate up every single toxic second. Dagger and Noir are walking red flags covered in tattoos and emotional repression and somehow that made them hotter. Explain that to me.
Dagger saying, “I missed you too, little relapse,” actually rewired my brain chemistry. And Noir?? Sir??? “You think I forgot you? Forgot what you taste like? Sound like?” LOCK HIM UP. IMMEDIATELY. Right after he says it again.
The banter in this book deserves its own award because Blair’s inner monologue had me CACKLING: “Here she goes again, folks. Watch her make the same mistake twice—no, wait—bigger this time.”
Honestly Blair is me. Blair is all of us. A woman making terrible decisions because two sexy alphaholes exist.
And can we talk about the chemistry?? The spice?? THE SPICE JUST KEPT SPICING. “Come apart for me, little relapse,” had me ascending into another dimension.
But underneath all the neon lights, partying, chaos and sexual tension thick enough to cut with a knife, this story is DARK. Addiction, betrayal, grief, death, it’s messy and painful and addictive in the best way possible. Nova somehow balances absolute emotional destruction with unhinged humor perfectly.
Mina was also SUCH a good addition. Blair desperately needed a bestie equally as chaotic and sarcastic to survive this nightmare. Their friendship was instantaneous, honestly carried some of the heavier moments and I loved every second of them together.
Also this line: “There’s no reason one man should be allowed to look that good while simultaneously being that emotionally repressed.” Blair, babe, YOU GET ME.
Relapse is exactly what the title promises, a full blown spiral back into Severance Point with toxic men, bad decisions, emotional damage, and enough sexual tension to power a small city. And honestly? I’d relapse too.
I need the next book injected directly into my bloodstream immediately.
I. Am. Speechless. That ending!! Excuse me?! Mind blown, again.
If Overdose was a wild, addictive ride, this second book took it up a notch. From the surface this book was full of glittering neon lights, partying and sparkle, but underneath it all was a heavier story full of addiction, betrayal and death. Messy, dark and chaotic in the best possible way.
Blair continued to be an amazing FMC. She came to Severance Point to disappear and to find answers, but got caught in something bigger and more dangerous. She is unhinged, badass character who doesn’t take shit from anyone. Her inner thoughts are hilarious and she made me laugh out loud multiple times. I really love her as a character and her character development.
The MMCs, Dagger and Noir were toxic and addictive, but so hot. The banter between Blair and especially Dagger was top tier. These three are so toxic together, but in the best possible way. And the spice just kept spicing.
Mina was a nice addition to the story. She seemed like a great friend and I loved how she matched Blair’s crazy. I loved the Full Send mentions and seeing some of the familiar characters from that series (if you haven’t read Full Send yet, go read it now!)
Nova really knows how to throw a great plot twist right at the end, because respectfully, wtf was that!? lol I loved every second of this book and I need more like right now!
“You were literally just mad. Stay on that. Be mad. Be a bitch. Be difficult.” “You two don’t get to decide what I can handle. And you definitely don’t get to play savior after dragging me into whatever the fuck that was, then disappearing like the world’s hottest witness protection program.” “Thank you. I work very hard at making bad decisions selectively.” “What’s the matter, little addict? Thought you wanted your memory refreshed.”
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review. Receiving ARC didn’t affect my opinion of the book.
The ending of Nova’s books always make my heart POUND 🥵🥴🥴🥴
Overdose was a 5⭐️ read for me so I was so excited to see Relapse was on its way with new characters ! This story was just as addicting and enthralling.
This book is, in fact, a Relapse. Coming back to Severance Point was the best worst idea Blaire ever had, and boy is she going to learn to regret becoming addicted to Dagger and Noir. You instantly fall back into trouble with this fmc, knowing it will be a wild ride. Mina was just as toxic but twice as fun. She was bubbly and definitely something this story needed — a good girlfriend to get through all of this trauma with.
If one possessive alphahole wasn’t enough, here is two. You won’t be able to pick a favorite, that’s just how life goes when it comes to sexy tatted men who are addicted to you.
This book felt like constant enemies to enemies to ??? to enemies and I loved it. There were a few times where there were some discrepancies in actions or situations (clothes were already off but mentioned fabric again, things kept getting switched around) but this was a vibes read and I couldn’t care less, I ate it up anyway.
I don’t think it lived up to Overdose, but it was still a good little Relapse.
Overall 4 ⭐️ 3 🌶️
Thank you so much to Nova and team for this advanced copy!
“Sometimes we love the things that hurt us, and sometimes we are the thing that hurts us. Sometimes no matter how bad it is for us… we go back anyway.”
🤯 After the crazy ending that Overdose had, i didn’t know what to expect with Relapse.. but that ending WAS NOT WHAT I EXPECTED.. I have so many questions!? 😩 But whaaaaaaat! So so so good! I loved this book!
I love how the book - from all POV’s - are literally like being inside of the characters heads, moreso than usual. Like the inner dialogue and thoughts - i loved it.
When Dagger & Noir find their ways back into Blair’s life after the events of Overdose, trying to protect her and keep her safe is NOT as easy as it seems. She races harder than ever, and this time it’s with her new bestie, Mina, by her side. But when the past starts closing in on the trio, will Blair listen to Dagger & Noir’s warnings and follow their lead? Or will trouble be closer than they ever expected?
