Within the Divine Realms, you are welcomed to the Dragon Realm ruled with a iron will by 'Sovereign' of the Tyrannical Bloodline. Dominion, heir to Sovereign and the realm, is sent forth on a epic adventure. Politics, royal errands and ruling with fear gives Dominion little interest. Instead he seeks freedom, an escape to live life with the one he secretly loves. However the mighty black scaled dragon is torn between living his own life, facing the wrath of his Sire and abandoning fellow dragonkin. Will the dragon who, holds a ruthless power, choose the correct path or lose himself in his own Tyrannical Bloodline of power.
To be honest, I purchased this book after seeing the adult material disclaimer in the sample. I thought it would be an erotica; instead it turned out to be a well-developed action-adventure story that doesn't shy away from describing intimate scenes between three dragon protagonists.
Main character motivations are compelling: Dominion wants to free himself from his Tyrannical bloodline and its expectations; Calamity wishes to protect his lifelong friend; and Inferno desires to prove her worth as a Royal Guard despite her caste. But, these drives are perhaps revealed somewhat late; during my read-through early on, I had the impression that Calamity and Inferno were shallow and only present to write erotica content with.
Exploration and action scenes are vivid, though some conflicts wrap up too quickly to maintain appreciable tension. Prose is engaging but tends to run on with missing punctuation, so some plot events and descriptions are difficult to follow at first read. Still, I thought prose quality improved towards the later chapters, so perhaps it's only a matter of practice.
Explicit intimacy feels gratuitous early on, but this tapers off in the later story beats where stakes become higher and threats more severe. Overall, this has been an enjoyable read with a story to take seriously if you overlook flaws in prose and some excess intimacy. I hope the author keep at it, and look forward to the continuation.
Enjoyable, fast-paced adventure with "bonuses". At first the protags seemed overpowered (in the fights I mean, not the bonuses... though they are not especially sluggish in those, either lol), but soon they meet challenge and some of it gives them hard times (wait... this didn't come out right !), not made any easier by their budding relationships.
On a side note I found mixing present and past in the narration an ambitious choice versus sticking to one. It results in a few confusing passages where I had to rewind a paragraph. No big deal, it seems to get under better control by the end.
I'm also surprised the "spicy bonuses" - I was aware of those from a rec - are not mentioned in the blurb, even though this is visible in the preview. Could come as a surprise to some people :-)
Initially, my reading experience was hindered by an excessive volume of intimate content that significantly diluted the potential depth of the overall narrative.
The frequent and overwhelming inclusion of explicit scenes often created an absurd juxtaposition, particularly in moments intended to be sacred or deeply moving, rendering them comically farcical due to the preceding intense sexual encounters.
As the later chapters progressed, it became apparent that the substantive thematic depth I had hoped for was ultimately absent. The narrative failed to evolve beyond the immediate action and character interactions.
The story's brevity is, fortunately, its saving grace.
