What do you do when you find yourself stuck in a toxic relationship and desperate for a fresh start—preferably one that includes zero men?
You run away to Montana, of course.
That’s exactly what British Bookstagrammer Stormy does: she trades her old life for a cozy cottage on a quiet ranch, with dreams of opening a charming indie bookshop and finally finding peace.
But peace is the last thing she finds when she arrives and is greeted by Ford—the ranch’s grumpy, brooding owner who looks like he was sculpted by the gods…and has the attitude to match.
Stormy’s not here for romance, and Ford’s certainly not looking for complications—especially not in the form of a beautiful, endearing Brit with a heart as big as her TBR pile. But as her bookshop dreams hit snags and their paths keep crossing, Stormy and Ford find themselves drawn to each other in ways neither of them planned.
As emotions rise and defenses fall, Stormy and Ford must face the pasts they’ve tried to outrun. Because sometimes, letting someone in isn’t about weathering the storm—it’s about learning to find the calm after it.
A heartfelt, slow-burn romance about healing, hope, and finding love where you least expect it.
Perfect for fans of grumpy/sunshine dynamics, small-town charm, found family and second chances.
A cosy and heartwarming story that any reader could identify with, written with emotional intelligence and creativity. Reading this was like a warm hug!
It ticks so many boxes - bookish, bookstore, cowboy, romance, healing, found family, the list goes on and I truly enjoyed reading it!
first of thank you so much @kpbryanauthor for letting me beta read your debut novel! i absolutely adored it! the story was so raw and beautiful.

their story together was so beautifully written and flowed so well. the swing scene though 😮💨 that will live rent free in my mind 🤭

Absolutely inhaled this book in like a week which is fairly quick for me!
Cosy cowboy romance YES! Also my first ever cowboy based book!
Loved the fmc and mmc and their back stories and current stories. Ford is such a swoon! Stormy is a sweetie and a lover of books! Relatable… just not the sweet part ha! Side character Missy yes! I loved her and I loved Jenson! I wish I’d had more Jenson he sounds like a right giggle!
Loved the touch with the ranch being a sanctuary and rescue the animals.
I’d really like it if all men were as insightful as Ford ✨
I feel like I’ve forgotten how to review a book I guess that’s because it’s been a minute! Loved this & snuck the kindle onto my desk to finish this afternoon 😌🫣✨✨
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I signed up for this book because the cover and premise looked really cute and oh man, did it ever come in hot.
This was an excellent cowboy romance book that gave all the small town feels.
I’m always down bad for a grumpy cowboy and Ford was no exception to that. And Stormy is a bookstagrammer wanting to open a bookshop? Girl is living my small town cowboy dreams and was an extremely relatable character.
This book was really cute, definitely didn’t avoid dealing with previous traumas and focusing on healing and taking care of yourself.
I definitely recommend this book if you’re into cowboy small town romances.
Thank you to Kirsty Bryan for an advanced copy of this book. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I have just finished ARC reading this and what an incredible debut book this is! such a beautiful story of finding a love you always wanted but never thought you deserved. The story was so well written and as someone who had watched a love one survive a life of DV (and survived her own version) I can't begin to describe how carefully and beautifully this was handled. I highly recommended reading this but as always please check the trigger warnings.
This was such a great, light and airy read. It was refreshingly enjoyable and frankly adorable. There are some darker subject lines that could be triggering so be sure to review any content warnings.
I love the MCs but my favorite character by far was Missy, the MMC’s sister. She needs her own story. She was so funny and I loved every scene she was in.
It’s been a long time since I read a small town romance book & even longer since a book made me cry
when I say this book has my heart I mean it. I cannot believe this is a debut book and fully believe Kirsty Bryan is MADE for writing small town romances because this book was executed so perfectly
Stormy and Ford are my new favourite couple. Stormy is just a girl trying to do better for herself. Moving across the world & escaping a toxic environment - she’s finally showing up for herself and doing something for HER. She’s witty and funny and relatable to me in SO many ways
and then we have Ford, a grumpy cowboy who never fails so show up for his family. He’s the glue holding them together with ghosts of his own. When he finally lets down his walls to let stormy in and LET himself also dream about the life and future he wants too - it was everything
The found family elements in this book made my heart hurt, and chapter 50 & 51 had me in tears. I think stormy is the most relatable FMC I’ve ever read in a book and I just adore her
I wish I could read this again for the first time. I highly recommend reading this. I’m jealous of those who haven’t read this yet.
Perfect for lovers of - Small town vibes - Grumpy cowboy x sunshine FMC - one horse !!!!! - lots of healing - slow burn, extremely well written might I add, Ford knows what he’s DOING 👀 - protective MMC who also gives forehead kisses and is obsessed with dogs and horses
Oh. My. Wow… and even that doesn’t accurately cover all my feeling about Riding the Storm. Because boy oh boy does this read make you feel every emotion! You will laugh, cry, be angry on behalf of our characters and swoon! And if you’ll love every second of it because I know I certainly did! If you’re looking for your next read and want a book that has a gorgeous back drop, beyond amazing characters who are fractured but healing and feeling everything along the way, animal companions you’ll just want to cuddle, a grumpy/sunshine, slow burn, romance filled with gripping romance, plenty of spice and an amazing happily ever after then I highly recommend adding Riding the Storm to your TBR today!
I truly can’t recommend this book enough! I mean I literally tore through the pages because I simply couldn’t put it down I had to know what these characters were going to do next! Stormy was such an amazing, relatable character! After all the struggles she faced the fact that she was still able to face the day with sunshine and optimism even if it was a little more guarded made her such an absolutely amazing character! And Ford is just so lovable, don’t get me wrong to start off at least with Stormy he was a bit of jerk but to his family he had become their rock after tragedy rocked their family. But he’s working through grief and while he’s still trudging through the mess that grief is watching him heal and start to breathe again with Stormy made for such a swoon-worthy romance! One that I will definitely be rereading over and over again.
This story felt like the dream of so many of us British bookstagrammers - running away to Montana to live on a ranch and open our own bookshop 😍😍
The book had it all - a brooding, grumpy cowboy, a smart-talking sister, found family, a cute dog, slow burn, healing from trauma, small town, tension, love and spice. It was such a sweet read, despite the sadness and traumas the characters had faced. There were some hard hitting topics, so I would definitely recommend reading the trigger warnings, but I felt the author handled these really sensitively and they were really well written.
I loved how the characters helped each other break down their walls and heal together, and how Stormy was welcomed into Ford’s family. I thought Stormy’s back story was also original and added some extra interest and sides to her character. I don’t know what Kirsty’s plans are for future books, but I’d love to see this turned into a series so we can dive deeper into the side characters (especially Missy, Harper and Kit, Jensen and Jake) and learn more about them and their stories.
I’d have liked a little more on the residents of the small town aspect and their immediate refusal to help (e.g. was someone behind this? Got my eye on one person but keeping this spoiler free!), but it was interesting and unique to see a small town that’s not immediately welcoming to our MC, as often in small town romances they all welcome to the new resident with open arms.
Definitely one for cowboy romance readers to add to their TBR!
Thank you Kirsty for the opportunity to read this ARC! Best wishes for the release! 🩷
What do you do when you find yourself stuck in a toxic relationship and desperate for a fresh start—preferably one that includes zero men?
You run away to Montana, of course.
This book follows Stormy a British bookstagrammer who escapes to America for a fresh start, she is hurt and she is grieving. What she wasn’t expecting was to meet her grumpy new neighbours Ford, the cowboy who loves animals more than anything and keeps his cards very close to his chest.
This book was everything 🩷 about healing, self worth, letting your guard down and not being afraid to let the right people in. At the start of this book both Stormy and Ford are in full on protection mode and it is amazing to watch them heal and come together in the best way possible. Ford is the most amazing book boyfriend, sweet and caring when he needs to be, protective as hell and super sexy. That swing scene 😮💨
Stormy is fiercely independent and has been through so much and won’t let anything or anyone keep her down. Also, she is totally one of us! A bookstagrammer opening her own book store (living the dream, right?)
Thank you so much Kirsty for allowing me to read this wonderful book early, it is such a beautiful story. I loved it (and Ford) so much! I have absolutely no doubt this book is going to be a hit! Can book 2 be about Missy or Jensen pretty please?
Kirsty has an amazing way of writing, the whole way through I felt like I was in the book with the characters. So many emotions felt during this story.
Riding the storm, a cosy small town romance, the perfect autumn read.
We have Stormy the FMC, a British bookstagrammer who moves to Montana to escape her toxic ex boyfriend and start fresh. Swearing off men which is proven difficult when you live next door to the grumpy cowboy. Stormy Is living the bookstagrammer dream opening her own book shop and getting the hot grumpy cowboy.
And then there is Ford the MMC, a grumpy, protective cowboy healing from his own traumas. He has put walls up not letting anyone get close and works tirelessly on the ranch.
This follows both Ford and Stormy growing independently as well as together. Showing you that it doesn’t matter what trauma you experience you can learn to love and be loved with time and the right support.
We see found family with all of Fords family being so warm and welcoming to Stormy when she needed it most. Especially Missy, the best friend everyone needs, and we can’t forget buddy, the perfect companion who seems to know Stormy would become important to Ford before he did.
This book has everything 🤍grumpy x sunshine 🤍small town 🤍found family 🤍dual POV 🤍trauma/ healing
Riding the Storm was such a warm, heartfelt surprise. Stormy is the definition of resilience—sweet, passionate, and determined to build a new life after everything she’s been through. She’s literally living every bookstagrammer’s dream: opening a cosy bookshop and settling into the charm of a small town where books, community, and healing come together so beautifully.
I’m a sucker for the found family trope. Watching Stormy find not just safety, but a true home—and a friend-turned-sister in Missy—made my heart melt. Their bond felt so natural and comforting.
And then there’s Ford, where do I even begin?? Even behind his rough edges, he’s an absolute softie who makes sure Stormy gets the fairytale she’s always wished for, straight out of the stories she loves. Their chemistry felt gentle, tender, and so well-earned.
The whole setting wrapped me up like a warm blanket. Cosy small-town vibes, a bookshop I wish I could walk into, and a storyline that felt like a hug, plus THAT swing scene 🥵
If you love found family, small-town warmth, and a heroine who refuses to let life dim her light, this book is a must-read! 💛📚🌧️
Thank you so much to the author for this ARC! I thoroughly enjoyed it
Firstly I just want to say thank you for letting me be part of your ARC team! 🫶🏼 I’ve enjoyed all the excitement leading up to this book release and I’ve loved seeing everyone’s reviews on how much they loved it! I have voted this book 4.5 stars as this is the PERFECT autumnal cosy book to read. It has romance, spice and all things nice. We start off by meeting Stormy who has a troubled past and has moved from the UK to America to escape everything. There she meets Ford - her grumpy but attractive cowboy neighbour. I absolutely adored the beginning of the relationship and how it progressed into something so romantic, I loved the friendships she made and the hard work she put in to her bookshop despite all the challenges. I loved his character development and the way he slowly started to let people into his heart again. I really smiled reading this whole thing and now I’m fully ready to move to an American ranch myself?? 😂 the spice in this book as well was 🥵 I’m so gutted I don’t have more of their story to read! This honestly is such an amazing book, it’ll be what I think of when anyone says ‘a cosy autumn read’ because that’s exactly what it is! I highly recommend this book to everyone 🫶🏼
Riding the Storm is one of those books that quietly sweeps you off your feet. It’s tender, emotional, and full of heart — the kind of story that makes you want to pack up and move to a quiet ranch in Montana.
Stormy, a British bookstagrammer running from a painful past, dreams of a fresh start and maybe a little peace. Living on a ranch next to Ford — the brooding, emotionally guarded cowboy — she finds herself slowly drawn into his world of healing, family, and second chances. Both characters are scarred by loss and fear of love, and watching them help each other rebuild feels incredibly raw and real.
The found-family element shines through beautifully — Ford’s mum, sisters, and friends add warmth and humor that balance the story’s heavier themes. Kirsty handles trauma and grief with a soft but steady hand, making the emotional moments hit just right without feeling overwhelming.
A heartfelt debut that’s perfect for fans of small-town romance, grumpy-sunshine dynamics, and emotional slow burns.
Tropes: Cowboy romance Hurt/ Heal Grumpy X Sunshine Small town Slow burn
Firstly, I want to thank Kirsty Bryan for the ARC opportunity and for writing such an amazing story.
Make sure to check the trigger warnings page as domestic abuse is heavily accented into the FMC’s story. It’s dark and messy. This isn’t necessarily a dark romance but more of a slow burn in a dark world.
The title is fitting for the book, as both main characters are learning how to survive the world and all the hurt thrown their way. The writing is beautiful. I felt connected to the characters and found myself angry, laughing, and crying with them.
One thing I loved the most is that this book is the definition of never judge a book by its cover. The story is complex and full of emotion, longing, wanting, fearing, self doubt and conquering.
Great for those that like strangers to lovers, 2nd chance at life, small town politics and romance, broody cowboys, and a fake it till you make it attitude.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️5 stars for the banter, storytelling, and pure human emotion conveyed throughout this book.
I was immediately sucked into the story of Riding the Storm. The blurb of this book caught my eye from the get go & it did not disappoint! Kirsty Bryan came up with such a unique idea for this one, & the execution was handled beautifully. I absolutely loved this authors writing style, it was just so easy to get lost in each page. This book deals with some sensitive topics, please be mindful to check the trigger warnings. With that being said, the author handled these topics with the utmost care, & you could feel every moment on page.
It was so heart warming reading about both Stormy & Ford’s growth, individually & together, as the story unfolded. They’re such relatable & loveable characters, & their love story was written beautifully. The supporting characters were done extremely well & added to the book even more. It was so nice reading about Stormy, Missy & Jensen’s friendship, with the found family trope being the cherry on top of this 5 star read. It was everything I could have hoped for from this story & more.
If you love small town, cowboy romance books, with similar vibes to Elsie Silver, you should definitely give this one a go! I am SO excited for book 2! Added bonus, it’s available on Kindle Unlimited! Need I say more?
This was a wonderful, heartwarming book with so my love and I adored it! Thank you so much Kirsty for my ARC, it has been such a treat reading this story.
Stormy, a British bookstagrammer, has left a toxic and abusive relationship, to settle down in Montana. She is heartbroken, alone but determined to make something of herself. In her first few minutes in her new town, she meets Ford, a grumpy farm owner with the weight of the world, and then some, on his shoulders. He wants nothing to do with her and she has sworn off men but they are constantly drawn together and can’t seem to deny their feelings…
Stormy is a girl after my own heart - with her never ending TBR pile and her love of indie authors. I found her to be such an inspiring character, one who had such incredible courage and honesty. Relating to her in so many ways, especially with regards to her mother and sister, Stormy is one of my recent favourite FMCs. Ford has such responsibility weighing him down, trying to hold his family and the farm together after his father’s passing. Having been made to feel like he wasn’t enough in past relationships, his walls are built so high! My heart broke for both him and Stormy.
⚠️ Please check the trigger warnings, this is a beautiful story but there are tough moments to get through at times.
If you love a slow-burn, open-door romance with grumpy-sunshine characters, this is the book for you! Thank you so much Kirsty Bryan for trusting me with your story
💫 ‘I’ve always thought love was about finding someone who stays through the storm. Someone solid and safe. But maybe it’s more than that. Maybe it’s about finding someone who dances with me in the rain. Who doesn’t just hold me together but reminds me how to fall apart and still feel joy.’ 💫
Firstly, I just want to say that Kirsty has done an amazing job for her debut novel, I absolutely adored this book.
Stormy is a British bookstagrammer, she's looking for a fresh start after dealing with loss and a toxic past. She moves to a small town in Montana and is living in a cottage on a ranch, she also has a dream of opening up her own indie bookstore.
Living next door is Ford, the grumpy cowboy, who doesn't want anything to do with Stormy. Both Stormy and Ford are dealing with difficult pasts and loss, they both have the fear of being hurt again. Ford often tries pushing Stormy away to protect himself, but he knows that he shouldn't have said the things he does, but he owns up to his mistakes.
I loved the book references through the book and the message throughout is that it's okay to start over and rebuild from what you've been through.
The book had the best found family, Stormy really fits into Ford's family and gets close with his mum and sisters and his best friend and they all welcome her in.
Thank you, Kirsty for letting me ARC read your book! I'm so excited to see what books you write next.
This is the story of two people who aren’t ready for love. Stormy is healing from an abusive and manipulative relationship, and Ford has put up walls, too scared to invest in a relationship after being left hanging by his ex. Somehow, these two get entangled with each other and slowly start opening up, finding a safe space in one another.
Their love isn’t instant — even with the physical attraction from the start, it’s a push-and-pull given their trauma, and I really applaud Kirsty for making it feel so real. Btw, I’m happy to announce that Ford just made it onto my book boyfriend list... our Shadow Daddy 😂. He’s such a supportive pillar for Stormy, showing care through acts of service and constant reassurance. Ugh, plus that swing scene🔥
I never thought cowboy romance would be for me, but then Kirsty’s debut novel came along, and I didn’t expect to enjoy it this much. Congratulations on your debut release, and thank you for giving me the opportunity to read the ARC!
Riding the storm by Kristy Bryan Thank you Kristy for letting me read this arc💜
I loved the book! They had good personal growth and the whole setting was very beautiful and the struggles they were dealing with was wel written.
In general I think the book was very wel written and a great story. Loved the side characters too, if there ever is going to come a book with Kit I think he is going to meld my heart…
Also Buddy!🐶 Such a cutie pie! Tho I would have loved to have had a last scene with him in it.
But like the whole family is fun and had some really fun moments in the book!
Also very grateful for the trigger warnings in the beginning, not every author does that and I do have a few I don’t want to read so I’m always thankful when there are trigger warnings added.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ‘ I’ve always thought love was about finding someone who stays through the storm. Someone solid and safe. But maybe it’s more than that. Maybe it’s about finding someone who dances with me in the rain. Who doesn’t just hold me together but reminds me how to fall apart and still feel joy’
received this book as an ARC. What a wonderful cozy cowboy romance. Or well… is it even a cowboy romance? Because Ford doesn’t see himself that way at all, and he doesn’t think he deserves to wear a cowboy hat. I love how the author balances the ranch life with opening a small bookshop. the dreaming, planning, sourcing books, creating the vibe, all those little bookshop details are woven in so naturally that you can actually feel that small-town indie bookstore slowly coming to life.
Thank you Kirsty Bryan for letting me arc read your debut novel. Your words touched me and warmed my heart immensely.
Riding the Storm is a cosy cowboy romance filled with warmth, banter, and emotions. Ford and Stormy were so cute! I absolutely adore them. I loved how relatable, sweet, compassionate, gentle and caring both of them were. I felt like they were wrapping me in a warm embrace and I didn't want to stop reading.
I have to say that I'm jealous of Stormy now. A bookstagrammer who opens her own bookshop? She's living the dream!!
❤️🩹 Found Family ❤️🩹 Grumpy/Sunshine ❤️🩹 Hurt/Comfort ❤️🩹 Trauma healing
Riding the Storm is now part of my comfort reads and I can't wait to add my pre-order to my bookshelf.
‼️ Even if this is a pretty light-hearted story, this book deals with heavy topics like grief, child abuse and domestic violence.
Stormy and Ford are a dislike to love in such an interesting way.
Stormy’s character dealt with so much hurt in her past. She went through so much in her life and seeing her be strong enough to start over away from what she knows was something. I wish we would have seen a bit more of her healing process and learned more about her relationship with her father. I also would have liked to have seen a bit more information about why she kept her exes number unblocked despite everything he did. She was such a likeable character and you truly did want her to succeed in what she did. She was relatable in her using books to escape and feel a sense of calm.
Ford also had a hard time, and his reluctance to want Stormy made sense. It is hard to love again once the person you thought would be your forever decides you are too much work. His grief and how he dealt with life made sense. His internal monologue also humanized him and made him a bit more likeable, especially when he could admit he made a mistake.
Their ability to communicate once they over came some of their earlier challenges was refreshing. Seeing Stormy’s growth and learning to stand on her own was really beautiful to see. This story has a lot of potential and as a debut I look forward to seeing this author develop more.
Thank you so much Kirsty Bryan for sending me an early copy of this book 🥰
This is a super sweet, heartwarming story of 2 people learning how to love again! Stormy is escaping the trauma of a bad relationship, moving from London to Montana. The cottage that she has chosen is on a small ranch, and just next door is the broody, grumpy cowboy Ford. Making fast friends with his sister Missy, Stormy finally finds a sense of belonging and family, but can her sunshine personality break through the walls that Ford has built up high to protect himself? And after hitting so many road blocks, will she want to stay and fight past the obstacles to try and build her dream space?
Reading the development of both of these characters is beautiful, how they are able to work through their past traumas to allow each other in! And also being able to realise that they do deserve all the good things that come their way 🥹
• Grumpy x Sunshine • Found Family • Small Town • Cowboy 🤠
5⭐️ 3🌶️ 🤠Cowboy romance ☀️forced proximity 🤠hurt/healing ☀️grumpy x sunshine 🤠Found family ☀️No third act breakup
This book is pure cowboy romance perfection. For real. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book with a hotter description of an MMC. Ford is a tattooed cowboy, yes please! The way he has such a hard exterior but is really a big softie, especially when it comes to the animals he cares for, had me melting the entire book.
I absolutely loved that Stormy is a bookstagrammer starting over and opening an indie bookstore. The slow burn between Ford and Stormy was everything, the tension between these two is off the charts. I loved how they both needed each other to heal their past traumas. They’re both broken, but together they’re whole, and I’m such a sucker for that.
I felt connected to every single character. I could go on forever about how much I loved this book! An absolute must read!
This was just such a sweet story. The build up of love and trust, and letting someone else in to see those weaknesses. That was all portrayed so beautifully in this. I loved seeing the relationship grow between not only Stormy and Ford, but of friends and others in the town. This whole story was just beautiful and it just made my heart smile in the end.
One of my favorite lines in the book, I feel like this was the point Ford really opened his eyes. "That's what stayed with me. Not just the regret. But the shame of knowing I'd been careless with someone who'd already been broken open." My heart just aches with this. Seriously, the story is just beautiful.
I loved this book!! I enjoyed getting to know the characters and their journeys - I felt like this read similarly to the Elsie Silver books I've read and it made me feel like I wanted to read a series in this world... which hopefully we'll get to hear from the two best friends in the next two books!?!? I hope so!
I would say this book comes with a warning, our FMC is leaving behind an abusive relationship, you don't read many details around that but you see Stormy's journey on how to trust again and move forward with her life.. with a much better life!
This was my first cowboy romance and I'm so glad that it was. Because now I know that I actually love them. This was such a fluffy heartwarming romance.
Riding the Storm is for the soft and strong girls. The ones who've been hurt, and still choose kindness. The ones that know they deserve better and that they can rewrite their own story.
Thank you so much to Kirsty for allowing me to read this Arc, I’m obsessed. 🤩
Stormy and Ford story is so fun to read… I love how respectful and protective Ford is...
It’s not all cozy or fluffy, there is a edge of a lot of hurt in this book, flashbacks from Stormy’s past life. 90% of the book is the cowboy romance you want but you have to keep in mind that if you know domestic abuse you will read a bit about it.
Best line that made me laugh so hard… ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️
“What’s Bookstagram?” “It’s like Tinder, but for people who read”
In this beautiful, heartwarming story we find our British FMC, Stormy, fleeing a toxic relationship in London to the peace and quiet of Montana.
When she meets Ford, the grumpy cowboy, she has to decide whether to let her past trauma impact her potential future.
I loved the characters development and the way this relationship layered. The story came together beautifully, and had me so invested in the ending!
