A Cult of Cole

Rate this book
Peace, Love and a Dirty Bomb.
An aging 60s radical pulls Cole into what could be the end of Cole, and San Francisco.

Writers hope their words will live forever, but Cole Sage never dreamed an old article, on the radicals of the Vietnam War era, would ignite a string of terrorist bombings and threaten to destroy San Francisco.

Radicalized by in cult commune, Jason Reed has trained dozens of terror groups, foreign and domestic. He’s now on a peyote fueled mission to show Cole Sage the sixties aren’t over.

In a last revolutionary act, Reed hopes to unite the world’s radicals to save Mother Earth. From Wrigley Field to the Golden Gate, Reed lays waste to young and old alike in a series of devastating bombings.

The search for Jason Reed takes Cole from Washington DC to San Quentin. He meets the President and receives a phone call from Charles Manson. Cole finds a new chance at love when he meets a beautiful FBI agent.

Jason Reed’s open challenge to Cole Sage brings the journalist and terrorist face to face in what could be the last interview for both.

Micheal Maxwell has traveled the globe on the lookout for strange sights, sounds, and people. His adventures have taken him from the Jungles of Ecuador and the Philippines to the top of the Eiffel Tower and the Golden Gate Bridge, and from the cave dwellings of Native Americans to The Kehlsteinhaus, Hitler’s Eagles Nest! He’s always looking for a story to tell and interesting people to meet.

Micheal Maxwell was taught the beauty and majesty of the English language by Bob Dylan, Robertson Davies, Charles Dickens, and Leonard Cohen.

Mr. Maxwell has traveled the globe, dined with politicians, rock stars, and beggars. He has rubbed shoulders with priests and murderers, surgeons and drug dealers, each one giving him a part of themselves that will live again in the pages of his books.

Micheal Maxwell has found a niche in the mystery, suspense, genre with The Cole Sage Series that gives readers an everyman hero, short on vices, long on compassion, and a sense of fair play, and the willingness to risk everything to right wrongs. The Cole Sage Series departs from the usual, heavily sexual, profanity-laced norm and gives readers character-driven stories, with twists, turns, and page-turning plot lines.

Micheal Maxwell writes from a life of love, music, film, and literature. Along with his lovely wife and travel partner, Janet, he lives in a small town in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California.

Great books. On to the next one!

Enjoyed all three. Thanks for great writing without the "help" of sexual scenes or cursing. I knew it could be done! Perhaps your editor(s) could be more diligent or knowledgeable. That is a minor problem. Have been reading for 71 years and intend to read for another 10. Way to go.

Helix of Cole by Michael Maxwell is a real gripper. Very suspenseful but with a great story woven into the mix as well. Love, family, patriotic citizens such as Cole, intrigue, and more. One man plus God is sometimes all it takes to be a majority and do the right thing for the love of humanity, and Cole delivers as the main character in this book. Exciting story woven into the mix of those trying to protect loved ones and citizens. How far would you go to protect those you love is the premise question of this book, and Cole proves just how far he would go. Exciting book! I highly recommend Helix of Cole if you want a great read!

Great read

Yup, there are good guys and bad guys, not just state and regional law enforcement, the Feds as well.
A newspaper columnist becomes the “key guy” in solving the problem. He’s not a PI or an amateur detective. When it’s over he doesn’t cut another notch in his belt, he just deals with what he’s been through and heads back to HIS life.
Grab it, read it, you’ll enjoy it, and I bet it add the series to Gotta.Read List ... I did.

Another terrific adventure with more involvement than Cole Sage would have liked. This story is about a 55 year old guy who thinks he can make the world rise up and decide money is not the key to happiness. He was once a member of a 1960’s group of counter culture revolutionaries. His leader died and now this guy decides to take on the mantle. He finds the old chest of his mentor and an article written by Cole Sage 26 years ago. He decides to find Cole and let him write the story today. There are several explosions where hundreds of people are killed but this is just leading to his final act. He believes he has a suitcase nuclear bomb and he decides to explode it in San Francisco but first he wants to talk to Cole Sage and tell him what he plans to do. Cole thinks he is a nut but notifies his contact at the FBI. There is a bomb exploded at the peaceful rally but that is not the big bomb and no one seems to be able to find the guy. The story continues with the bomber calling for Cole to come talk to him. Cole goes to meet with the guy and ends the stand off. It is a good story and leads the reader to believe there is hope for us all.

#3 in the series and the best one yet. Cole Sage is feeling at home in San Francisco, but a revolutionist, Jason Reed, from his past thinks he is still in Chicago. He starts blowing people up and demanding to talk to Cole. Then he heads out to San Francisco and starts doing the same. FBI Agent in Charge Washington is introduced and becomes a big part of the story. I hope he is included in other books as well. Now the race is on to find him before he can do any more damage and there can be only one winner. Reed has a suitcase nuke and intends to start a revolution. The entire city is depending on Cole to not let that happen.

A New Favorite

Michael Maxwell has climbed to the top of my mystery favorites. He builds the story and keeps me hooked all the way through. I never figure out the ending ahead of time and that is new for me. I read a lot, and his stuff is great. The characters are well developed and the story is always so real. No meaningless sex or profanity, just a wonderful story. I would love to meet Cole, he is so real. Thank you for writing great books!

Cole is definitely getting more interesting! An article he wrote 10 years ago in Chicago is is coming back to haunt him. Mel Lyman, dead many years now was planning to save the world and now Jason Reed, previously known as Curtis Winger , has picked up where Mel left off and is bombing places to get the attention of local, state, and national law enforcement agencies. Can Cole help in time to help San Francisco?

All The News That's Fit To Print

Heck of a good read! Characters are stunningly developed. Historical references are skillfully woven into the story. The plot is totally believable and perfectly fit into modern day. It is all so real. Now on to the 4th in the Cole Sage Mystery series.

Hadn't read the other books in the series and so was glad to find that this book is a 'stand alone' story. I quite enjoyed it: the plot about a faded hippy out to destroy San Francisco was different and the way he (the villain) escapes capture and remains anonymous was intriguing and believable.

My only disappointment was the 'Love interest' part of the story, which was unnecessary and in no way added to the plot line. In fact, it looked like a 'Page-filler' just inserted ad-hoc in order to make the book longer.

The ending was also a tad disappointing but having said that, I enjoyed the book when I read it on vacation .... it was a light-ish read and not particularly taxing on the brain. And that really is where it should be read and then deleted and thrown away. Good but not great ....

Great story

Couldn't stop reading this book once l started. Took just over 3 hours but worth the loss of sleep. Only realised that this is 3rd book in the Cole Safe saga when finished but really entertaining and can be read as a stand alone but l think l will be buying the other books.

Very Engrossing Story

I'm loving Cole Sage and his misadventures. What I'm not loving is the lack of editing. There are several cases of the wrong word and many more of the wrong tense of a word. Since they were spelled correctly, I'm guessing the spell/grammar check just didn't pick up on them. I suggest a human editor after the computer has its first shot.

A little gruesome at times, but overall a very entertaining novel. Took some time to get into and see how what appeared to be multiple story lines tied together, but they merged well for the most part. There were a few times that part or all of a chapter seemed to be very far from the rest of the book.

I very much enjoyed this - a thriller with the protagonist, a newspaperman, who becomes embroiled in a major threat posed by a man following up an article he wrote 20 years earlier. Third is a series and worth finding the others.

Cole Sage is a newspaper man caught up in an interview he did many years ago with Charles Manson and other cult leaders. This latter day terrorist will only talk to Cole about his plans to start a world revolution with his crimes. I rate this a 4.0

Well woven story

Really enjoyed this story. Lots of unexpected twist & turns. Liked all the characters-except for the bad guy who was a bit "over the top bad" & very easy to hate. Look forward to reading more of this author.

Thrilling mystery

This was my first Cole Sage Mystery and I found it quite entertaining. While I may have gotten a little more out of some of the characters had I read the first two, this book was entertaining enough that it stood alone on it's own merits. Very interesting!

Can’t-put-it-down good!!
This book starts out calmly, with family time for Cole. But when the adventure starts there’s no stopping till the end! What a roller-coaster ride! Extremely exciting and entertaining journey!

I almost stopped reading this in the first chapter because the violence was so graphic. Obviously, I continued to the end. I like this series and Cole. I just hope the next one is ruined down a lot.
