He used to have bruises shaped like her knuckles. Now she answers to him.
John Rockstar Rover is a high flier at a global intelligence network so secret it’s simply called the Agency. He carries more than a killer track record and heavy-duty munitions on his sculpted shoulders and he's well on his way to becoming the youngest Director of Intelligence Operations ever. That is, until he is paired with the Agency’s train wreck.
If John Rover is a rising star, Madison Ford is an imploding black hole. As the laughing stock of the Agency, being stuck on assignment with the intelligence community’s hotshot is beyond mortifying. Having him as her temporary commanding officer? Unbearable. But Ford is determined not to be swayed by his smile or his service record, no matter how well-equipped he is...
He’s her worst nightmare. She could be his biggest downfall.
Together they’re forced on a mission that could put their careers—and hearts—on the line.
V S Kristine is a globe-trotting adventurer, martial artist, and storyteller of strong women, daring escapades, and rebellious heroines caught up in whirlwind romance.
First off, I love seeing a green flag MMC—red flag MMCs in all their glory—but rockstar Rover DELIVERED 🤩
This is my first agent romance, but it won’t be my last ✨ I need more books like the swoony, intense, rollercoaster of a ride that Agents in Flames was 😍
I absolutely love both mc's, Madison & John. Madison is strong, sassy & a rule follower. John is soft, protective & fun.
They are work enemies who have to work together. What followers is SO many cute & beautiful moments. Hilarious moments that made me laugh out loud, and serious moments that almost killed me 😩😩😩
Thank you so much to the author for the ARC of this amazing book. 🖤
Ahh, I had so much fun with this book! Madison and John are driven and thoughtful characters. I FELT it as they fell in love. I love a strong FMC, and Madison is literally so strong (she takes down bad guys like it’s nothing. What more could you want?) and I was there for every second of her growth. I’ll admit that I’m not usually a spy romance girlie, but Agent in Flames might start me on them. Minimal violence and guns, which are things I usually avoid. Recommended if you like fast-paced, easy to devour romance with real stakes!
I was hesitant (to say the least) to read a book about agents that was supposed to be romantic and exciting. I was convinced that at least one out of the two would be lacking. I had no previous experience with this kind of book, I normally read fantasy or romantasy so this was a first for me. However, I will most definitely read more and the standard O have now on agent books are incredibly high. not sure that's a good thing, because how can any book be as good as this?
It has everything I want from a book, romance, strong female character, excitement, intrigue!
It's totally a 10/10 and would recommend. One of the best parts is that it captures your interest within the first pages, which is so nice!
I can't wait for the next book by this lovely author, whom btw seem like a really nice person!
When Madison Ford was a junior agent, she made one mistake. Three years later, she’s still doing everything she can to make up for it. Struggling to get decent assignments and constantly being bullied by her peers. That is, until she crosses paths with John Rover. This blast from the past sees Madison for who she truly is, and makes it his life’s mission to get her what she deserves. But it won’t be easy. People in higher positions are determined to do the exact opposite.
Agent in flames is the debut novel of V. S. Kristine, and what a debut it is. Her writing style is very clear and easygoing. Detailed, but not excessive, allowing you to truly relax while reading the book.
The characters are very well developed. At various points in the story, personal details from the FMC’s and MMC’s lives are revealed, helping you understand why they react the way they do in different situations. It’s very clear John falls fast and hard for Madison, and although Madison fights her feelings with everything she has, you can feel her slowly falling for John too. A little teaser? It gets really hot on the plane.
No spy romance is complete without action scenes. Madison and John go on several missions throughout the story: chasing bad guys, retrieving stolen intel, going undercover as a married couple… this book has it all. The balance between action and romance is spot on, keeping you engaged without requiring constant hyper-focus to follow the story.
On top of that I absolutely love how badass Madison is. At one point, she gets wounded but doesn’t even bat an eye. John wants her to get stitched up, but she’s like, “No thank you, staples will do,” and off she goes, right back to the hunt.
I can’t say much about the twists and turns without spoiling the fun, but I can tell you this: my jaw dropped when everything unraveled. I’d reread this story in a heartbeat. I’m counting down the days until release so I can get my hands on a physical copy!

Agent in Flames was SUCH A FUN READ! I don't typically read books in this genre but I really enjoyed this one. The MMC was a walking green flag and I loved what a decent man he was. The sexual tension was lovely and I adored the banter between the MMC and FMC.
I also loved just how freaking strong the FMC was. I enjoyed every bit of this book and felt it was very well written. I can't wait to read more by this author.
I truly enjoyed reading this book. I usually don't read this genre but I loved it! Madison is the perfect definition for a woman who wants to deal with everything herself, and doesn't need help. The more you learn about her story, the more you understand her reasons to act the way she does. Her job is everything to her and she did everything what was needed to keep that job. While mister hot pants John is definitely one of my top book boyfriends now. He was funny, sweet, and protected her in best way possible. Few my favorite moments without contexts: A guard dog in my ear. Apparently, where she led, I followed, our tittles be damned. Did I always sound this stupid?
⋆。゚☁︎ ARC REVIEW。⋆。 ゚☾ ゚。⋆ My first agent romance book and it did not disappoint. My favourite things about this book -Green Flag MMC -The slow burn tension between MMC and FMC -Two classified missions with forced proximity….one bed🔥 ‘‘You have invaded every cell of my body, giving me ideas. Hope for the future. Endless dirty, wonderful futures, all involving you.’
This was such an easy free flowing read and the more I got into the book the more engrossed I was. I love the dual pov, I loved the feelings and thought processes from both characters, the tension build up between both Madison and John really complimented the open door spice.
I feel like it was the right amount of 🌶️ and it suited the story.
Madison really grew as the book went on at first I just wanted to hug her through the pages but towards the end she really found her voice, confidence and stood up for herself and I LOVED that for her.
I’m so used to reading and obsessing over a red flag MMC but having a walking green flag MMC was actually quite refreshing and it was really nice to read about positive affection and behaviours to cleanse my dark romance palette.
This book had everything: ✅ Forced proximity ✅ One bed ✅ Workplace rivals (hot af 😳) ✅ He falls first (screaming) 🚨 Zero chill 🚫 A good ol’ “f*ck it” bomb moment (my favorite 😭🔥)
This story was so much more than just tropes, though. You can tell how much time, stress, and patience went into writing it and it absolutely paid off. V.S. Kristine delivered something emotional, sexy, and explosive (literally BAM BOM 💣💥).
There’s no chill anywhere in this book and I loved every second of it. If you like chaos, passion, and rivals who make you want to scream into a pillow, Agent in Flames is for you
Agent in Flames by V. S. Kristine absolutely surprised me in the best way! 🔥 From the very first chapter, I was hooked by the spy vibes, secret missions and slow-burn tension that kept building between the main characters. This is the perfect mix of romantic suspense and undercover action, with just the right amount of heat. 😉
I really enjoyed the story pacing and build-up. Nothing felt rushed, and the plot unfolded in a way that kept me curious and invested. The twists weren’t overly predictable (thank goodness!) and I genuinely had fun piecing things together along the way.
The writing style was super smooth and easy to fall into, which made this such a fast, enjoyable read. I especially loved the dynamic between the leads, snarky banter + mutual tension = yes please. The chemistry felt natural and I was totally rooting for them.
If I have to nitpick, I would’ve loved just a bit more romance toward the end. After everything they went through together, my heart was craving a slightly bigger romantic payoff, but hey, maybe that just means I’m greedy. 😅
Overall, this was a fun, addictive read full of action, mystery, and fiery tension. I definitely recommend it if you’re in the mood for spies, sass, secrets, and slow-burn spice. Can’t wait to see what comes next in this series!
Thank you to the author V. S. Kristine for the ARC copy, this is my honest review. 💛
Let me start by saying this book was not my usual genre. I'm a die hard sci-fi and fantasy reader, so Agent in Flames was very much outside my comfort zone. However, by the time I finished the last page, I was completely hooked and ready for the adventure to continue. This is a must-read for anyone, regardless of whether you’re a spy romance veteran or a total newcomer.
V.S. Kristine delivers a novel that feels instantly cinematic. It reminded me, in the very best way, of some of the top spy movies: think the intrigue and high-stakes style of Mission: Impossible (with Henry Cavill playing John Rover of course), mixed with the snarky, volatile chemistry of Mr. and Mrs. Smith (I haven't decided who Madison would be played by).
The premise is great: John "Rockstar" Rover is the Agency's rising star. Madison Ford is the train wreck who bungled a high profile mission and was blacklisted. That dynamic: the hotshot commanding officer paired with the fiercely strong, determined agent who wants nothing to do with him, creates some really explosive slow-burn tension right from the start.
This book has all the best parts of a great spy novel: beautiful people, far-away places, dangerous missions, an unnamed super spy agency, and the requisite over-the-top posh hotel you could only dream of visiting. The plot pacing is excellent, keeping the action fast and the twists unpredictable. But the real strength is the characters! Despite not being a reader of the spicy romance genre, I fell in love with both John and Madison as characters... warts and all. They are thoughtful, driven, and their chemistry is undeniable.
Agent in Flames is a fun, addictive read with real stakes and just the right amount of heat. I guess this now makes me a fan who is just waiting for the next book to drop. Highly recommended!
I finally found the time to finish this book and I’m so glad I did! I’m going to do this chronologically so I’m really sorry to have to start with my one negative point, but maybe this will be helpful to someone else. I’m not going to lie, the prologue wasn’t for me, and this is seriously just personal taste but I’m not a big fan of the very out there lusting especially on the first page where I don’t even know these people yet. It threw me off a bit and my first thought was that maybe this just wasn’t the book for me. But oohhh boy am I glad I kept reading!! The first chapter drew me in immediately, got me hooked on the plot and honestly that hook didn’t let me go for a second. I think this book works so well as a dual POV just because both characters have such different perspectives on their past and how they view each other and that discrepancy is something I adore. I loved the story telling and the ways certain plot points were revealed, were really well done! The writing style had a nice flow for me, making it really easy to keep reading. Yes, one could argue that certain scenes could have been fleshed out a little more, but I didn’t really mind. I think it’s so impressive how this book managed to span over such a long period of time without dragging, that’s so hard to do. The characters felt really real to me, and I think their actions always made sense from their points of views, even if I didn’t always agree with them, but I do love a good character that I can complain about (and he did learn his lesson, so it’s okay 😉). All in all, I had a fun time with this book and am very glad I stumbled upon it and kept reading!
This was my very first ARC read and also my first ever agent romance, so I was equally excited and nervous to read it. What if I didn't like it? Luckily, I loved it. The opening chapter caught my interest straight away and never let go. This book is full of action, banter and conflicting thoughts and inner monologues.
Madison is a strong but self doubting agent who constantly gets negative comments and feedback despite going above and beyond in order to prove her worth, all because of a failed mission 3 years back. Rover is the golden boy whose time in the agency has been nothing but smooth sailing, rising in ranks with ease, never getting bad rep and with women at work flocking around him. So when they get paired together for a mission, all that is about to change. He pushes her to stand up for herself and believe in her worth. He gets to walk in her shoes, realizing he's been very priviliged. Together they are a power duo, as long as they can keep their thoughts and feelings in check and focus on their missions.
I had so much fun reading this book. It was funny, exciting, action packed and full of tension and yearning. Loved that the FMC was strong and the totally green flag MMC was a breath of fresh air. If I had to nit pick and the only reason I gave it 4 stars is because some phrases got a bit too repetitive which kind of annoyed me, but luckily it improved after the first half.
All in all, a great book which I highly recommend to anyone wanting to read an agent romance!
Just wanted to start by saying how lovely the author is so lovely especially as took me ages to get to the book with some illnesses.
I love how the start almost gives you a brief like you are an agent! And by the end I almost felt like I was a spy as one twist massively had me fooled but the last one I sussed that out with the epic skills I learnt from the book obviously 😎 😉
Madisons comment "Special Agent John Rover radiated big d*** energy. To make matters worse, he probably was big"
Maddison is such a strong FMC that has had the worst luck and awful treatment yet she's still so determined and I love how Rover manages to bring the full fire of her back ❤️
Andy, Marzieh, Kevin and let's not forget sassy Gracie were such great characters throughout. Andys comment “Ah, well. Tough t*tties then, I’m afraid.” cracked me up 🤣
The descriptions throughout were fantastic I honestly felt like I was undercover with them! All the twists and turns the risks they take had me laughing, gasping and gripping onto my imaginary gun so I could get involved!
It was one of those books I struggled to put down because I needed to know what happened! I never knew I needed a SpyMance but turns out I did!
This book reminds me of the old spy movies with intrigue, high stakes style, and danger. The FMC has been blacklisted because she botched a high-profile mission. However, she is fierce, strong, and a badass! I loved her. She had such determination and drive. She wasn’t going to let her past failure define her. The MMC is the “Rockstar” agent- the rising star. He doesn’t come off too cocky though which is nice. He’s a golden retriever -funny, sweet, and protective of his partner. You can feel the tension between them from the beginning. The characters are well written, thoughtful, driven, and have undeniable chemistry. Slow burn in the best way. The storyline was well thought out and paced just right to keep you interested. Minimal violence and guns so it weren’t too dark. A very enjoyable read.
Madison Ford and John Rover went through agent training together, now several years later, John is the hotshot agent and Madison is the mess no one wants to work with. When they end up back working together, Madison is certain she’s going to mess it up, John is certain she’s still the woman he knew years ago.
I really enjoyed this story, John is definetly a walking green flag, and I loved the unconditional support and belief he had for Madison. I adored watching these two reconnect, work the case, and finally figure out what went wrong all those years ago.
This was such a fun read! While I had been in a bit of a romance slump lately, this was exactly what I needed. The characters were lovable (thank you for the green flag MC!!!!!) and so well written. The pacing was great and if you loved the movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith (like I did), I'm sure you'll love this one! Highly recommend if you're into: rivals to lovers and action packed romance.
